I had my dog neutered, and I found Benson Animal Clinic was about $300 less than others. The care provided was amazing. Most places did not offer laser surgery, but I learned that using a laser allows for surgery with minimal blood loss--the cut is cauterized and sterilized. My dog underwent laser neutering at 8:30 AM, and he was home by noon, sleeping comfortably. He doesn't need a collar and can return to his regular activities tomorrow; today, he's just relaxing. From the front desk to the doctor, I can't say enough nice things about this group--they are top-notch. I had several questions for the doctor, and he was very happy to answer them. Since I have an English Bulldog, they took extra care during his surgery due to potential anesthesia complications, but thankfully, we experienced none. read more

Dr Zimmerman is outstanding. If you ever want to know details about the science behind dog or cat ailments, parasites, general physiology etc this is your guy. He will explain the "why's" and do it with passion. All vets should be like this. He won't sell you on unnecessary crap, either, he breaks down his position on what he recommends and the reason for it. Dr Zimmerman is very knowledgeable and helpful. My dog has Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) and I have had to take him to numerous clinics the past few years and he was the first doctor to take the time and describe what IVDD really is and even took out a medical book to show me pictures while he described it in detail. He made me feel comfortable with his treatment options and took into consideration my concerns. I was also able to schedule an appointment last minute to come in Saturday before Christmas Eve. My pup had been seen here years ago for exams but we moved to other states so I'm glad I was able to return while we were in Omaha. I'd definitely recommend this clinic! read more

Of all the animal clinics I've been to in Omaha, Benson Animal Clinic is paws down the best. Dr. Zimmerman and his staff are all very personable. And they're always happy to take an extra moment or two to explain exactly what's going on with your pooch, kitty or other pet. It's kind of like having Bill Nye as your vet - each visit is very informative and can even be kinda funny. We had a kitten with a broken foot. We took her to Dr. Zimmerman to get her cast changed each week for about a month. Because of the love care I saw them give to each and every one of their patients, I never loathed going. I can't say that about other local animal clinics. And their rates are very reasonable. I highly recommend taking your pet(s) here for all their veterinary needs. read more

I am leaving this review in hopes the City of Omaha will hold Benson Animal Clinic responsible for its extraordinarily blatant violation of the city's Mask Ordinance Extension #42368 I went in today to pick up heart worm pills for my dog. I arrived to see both staff members behind the main counter not wearing masks, although one had hers over her chin. The customer standing in line ahead of me with her small child did not have masks on or seemingly anywhere on their persons. So as I waiting in the furthest part of the already small waiting room debating on whether or not to just leave, another staff member walks through the back and later so does Dr. Zimmerman, neither of who are wearing masks nor even have them pulled down. I've been going to see Dr. Zimmerman for the five years I've had my dog and it pains me to see such a gross violation of a citywide health ordinance in a place where healthcare workers are working. My anger and frustration over this far outweigh my loyalty to this establishment. I do hope the city cracks down on them down the line though I fear this unlikely due to Dr. Zimmerman's views on mask wearing that I learned of extensively last time I got my dog vaccinated. This is already a longer review than I had planned and I don't nearly have enough time to get into Dr. Zimmerman's mask opinions, which is a whole different review. My partner's family has been going to Dr. Zimmerman for decades. We brought our Great Dane puppy into him and he has continued to provide wonderful care 7 years later. The techs are so caring and have even squeezed me in for appointments when they felt care was needed ASAP. They are incredibly affordable (he has not charged me for followups) and Dr. Zimmerman truly cares about every animal that comes through that door. He's so good that a major barrier for me moving out of state is that I would have to find another vet and he is the only one I trust with my dog. I would recommend him to anyone that is looking for an incredible vet with a wonderful staff. read more

Every time I've gone to see Dr. Z at the Benson Animal Clinic, it has been a great experience. This is the best vet I have ever been to. We used to use Banfield, but realized how bad we were getting taken advantage of when we found this clinic. I have also used the vet service on Offutt AFB, and the Benson Animal Clinic is even cheaper than they are, which surprised me. Benson Animal Clinic is a full service clinic with Dr. Zimmerman in charge. The staff and he truley care about the animals and their companion "people" that accompany them. He volunteers information and takes his time with each client, which is rare theses days. I had been driving all the way to Ames, Iowa from Omaha for vet care. Love Dr. Z and his staff. We took our mini American Eskimo there for 13 years until she passed last year, and every visit was gentle, efficient, informative, and even amusing. Due to our dog's extreme anxiety visiting the clinic (even after all that time), Dr. Z made a house call to administer her end-of-life care so we could keep her as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and I will never forget that kindness. Dr. Zimmerman is truly a great veterinarian, and has a staff that goes above and beyond to provide exceptional service for his clients. He's been my vet for years, but three days ago, showed me and my pooch a kindness I feel I'll never be able to repay. My black lab was diagnosed with 'happy tail' and despite my best efforts, his tail was slowly dying. I shopped around to a few closer locations to help me, but they gave me noncommittal answers and were nice, but none of them helped my pooch. I finally made the right call and took my dog (Moses) to the benson animal clinic and dr z diagnosed him and gave me the choice to kennel him overnight for surgery the next morning, which he desperately needed. Today, Moses is acting like a puppy again, healthy, happy, and a little obnoxious. I couldn't be happier. Take your pets to the benson animal clinic! It's truly the best. read more

Brought my St Bernard in for a dew claw removal that had grown back. Dr. Zimmerman was very efficient and worked quickly to remove the dew claw. Dr. Zimmerman has been my primary veterinarian for the past twenty years. He and his staff are professional and go above and beyond in caring for our pets! Dr. Z has taken care of three of my beloved dogs over the years and when my German/Lab mix Maggie, was in the end stages of her life, I was so appreciative of the house call service that Dr. Z provides. I wanted Maggie to be comfortable at home with her family in her last moments, and Dr. Zimmerman was outstanding in his manner of administering the medications allowing ample time in between the two, and being very kind & considerate of our feelings as well, even offering to help with our at home burial. In the few days following his visit, he & his staff sent us the most beautiful sympathy card and for a grieving pet parent, gestures of kindness mean so much! That's the "above & beyond" that I was referring to! Also, FYI Dr. Z is not only an expertise in his profession, he is literally a cornucopia of knowledge in a vast array of subjects! With each visit, your pet gets the best quality veterinarian care( especially when cost is a consideration) Benson animal clinic is the best! Dr.Zimmerman is amazing!! He is very knowledgeable and you can tell that he genuinely cares about your pet. Yesterday I took my 13 year old dog in, and Dr. Z diagnosed lymphoma. He explained all our options and was extremely patient while we were in tears. Today my dog went to heaven, but I was so comforted by the gentleness that Dr. Z showed.
