The vet called a bit later to tell us he wasn't supposed to be picked up yet and we asked why our dog was released before he was ready. The vet said he would check into it. He called back a little later to put all the blame on my husband and none on his staff for not knowing or following their own procedures. We can admit when we make a mistake (by showing up early) but the ultimate responsibility is on the vet clinic. The call back from the vet was rude and completely unnecessary.

I called this business about a month ago to schedule a grooming appointment for my dog. I was told…read morethe soonest available appointment was September 1, 2026 at 2:30 PM, so we waited nearly a month for that appointment. This was only our second time using this business. Our previous appointment had been very early in the morning, and as I recall, my husband dropped our dog off. This time, I personally brought him in for the appointment at the time I had been given. When I arrived, I told the employee with blonde hair that we had a 2:30 PM grooming appointment. She immediately told me that their drop-off times were between approximately 7:00 and 10:00 AM. I explained that no one had ever told me that when I made the appointment. Her response, in a very dismissive and snarky tone, was essentially, "Well, I don't know who you talked to, but drop-off is 7-10." I explained again that I had specifically been given a 2:30 appointment and that we had waited nearly a month. I even looked at the appointment book and could see that our dog appeared to be written down for that time. Instead of trying to resolve the misunderstanding, she repeatedly told me that my dog was not getting groomed that day. She then offered another appointment eight days later, as though that should simply solve the problem. I told her that I didn't think that was fair because we had shown up exactly when we were told to show up. If there was a misunderstanding about their drop-off policy, that should have been addressed when the appointment was made -- not when we arrived nearly a month later. The employee continued to be extremely rude and dismissive. I told her that I felt she was being rude to me. Her response was to tell me to "get the f* out of the store, b****."** I have never been spoken to that way by someone providing customer service. Mistakes happen. If I had been told when I booked the appointment that dogs had to be dropped off between 7-10 AM, I would have followed those instructions. The problem was not that there was a policy -- the problem was that we were never informed of it, yet we were treated as though it was somehow our fault. We waited almost a month, arrived at the appointment time we were given, and instead of receiving an apology or having someone attempt to find a reasonable solution, I was met with hostility and profanity. Being frustrated is one thing. Telling a customer to "get the f* out" and calling them a b**** is completely unacceptable.** Needless to say, we will not be returning. Customer service matters, and there are plenty of other businesses that can groom our dog without treating us with disrespect. This is my memory of the event.

We recently celebrated my boyfriend's sister's birthday at Omaha Tap house and saw that there were some great restaurants, bakeries, and small businesses. I knew I needed to come back on a day where I had ample time to check it out. As I was driving into the parking lot I saw Heartland Paws. My boyfriend and I just recently had a conversation about cat food and whether wet or dry food would be best. I decided to hop in and see what kind of wet food they had for cats. Chris greeted me immediately as I walked in and inquired as to what I was looking for. Normally, I try to scope out the place first then ask later. Total in my shell kind of shopper. But Chris shared substantial information about the dog and cat food he carries that I realized there's more brands out there that I hadn't heard of before. I'm all about supporting small businesses and businesses that practice mindful, ethical, humane, and environmentally friendly processes; I do my best to support these kinds of businesses as much as possible. I could tell Chris loves animals and pets by the care he takes in choosing the food brands he carries. I decided to grab a few wet rustic blend from Open Farm cat foods for our cat to try with her current dry kibble. I also picked up a couple of Fussie cat formula wet food with goat's milk. On the way out I picked up some peanut butter yogurt treats from a small bakery called Woofables in Coraville IA for our golden retriever. I love that Heartland paws strives to carry both great tasting foods and treats for cats and dogs, but they also support businesses that make it their priority to feed our furry family members the best food for them. I also appreciate that the back area of the store is used for introductions of rescues to new pet parents. I will definitely stop here again for my pet food needs and look forward to sharing this great pet store with more of my pet parent friends!

I realized years ago that mass market food brands were likely akin to fast food. So, I did some very topical reading online and decided to get a more expensive grain free food from an online retailer. Fast forward a couple years and I see my pets experiencing persistent allergies and other health maladies. I've considered upgrading to a healthier food after countless commercials on XM radio but every time I went to a website I was left confused about how to proceed. A friend referred me to Heartland Paws claiming that his cats fur was notably softer after just a couple weeks on a new healthier diet that the owner recommended. I'm happy to say that I made a visit to Heartland Paws and I'm so glad I did. The owner took the time to review my pets eating history and correlated that to my explanation of symptoms that my dog and cat had been experiencing. He explained how the food was made, the freshness of the meat, the cooking temperature, and what that does to the nutritional value, and a plan for transitioning my pet to a new healthier diet. Following the suggested plan, my pets are going crazy for this new food. The best part is that it is only marginally more expensive than my previous uneducated diet plan. If it has the promised long term effects of reducing vet visits then this new path forward is a no brainer. I wish I had visited Heartland Paws much sooner, but I am grateful to be taking steps to improve the health and wellbeing of my pets while I still can. We decided to have a vet check him out to see if he was healthy and look for a microchip. That's when Dr. Katz and her vet tech husband and business partner, Tom, came in. Literally, they came to our home and gave our cat a gentle exam, blood tests and vaccine shots all without getting him in a dither. He got a clean bill of health and we officially adopted him with a microchip. Such an easy process compared to stuffing him in a carrier and taking him somewhere. We have a new family member. If it was not for these two beautiful souls she would not have made it that long. My family and I would not have gotten this extra time with her. There is no way I would have been able to sustain this level of care if I had to take her into a brick and mortar. I wanted to give her as many good days as I could before we had to heartbreakingly say our goodbyes. I wanted her to get every possible day in this life that she wanted to have. They fostered the entire process. Took all my calls and texted. Came out several times each week. Gave words of encouragement. Ultimately allowing me the ability to love on my baby until the very end. That is priceless to me. These past 21 days I would bot have gotten to make those memories as hard as some of it was if it wasn't for them. Then when we had to say goodbye they did the whole process with such care and kindness. Even staying long after they had to due to an unforeseen and unavoidable issue with transport for cremation. (absolutely no fault of theirs or anything to do with them directly) Grateful is an understatement. Love these two so much!
