Bensons is near where I live, and it is pretty convenient as they do have a really good selection of beers and has any spirits that you would need in a pinch, But Bensons is a rip off. Typical prices are marked up 20-30% compared to what you pay or Ralph's or Total Wine, A 6 pack of a local brew IPA will run about $25. Most recently came in for a bottle of Aperol which retails about $25, but here it's $35.99. It comes down to convenience for those that live in the area, but you'll get a much better deal elsewhere. read more

I bought lotto tickets and a bag of chips. I used the changed I received ( a few dollars and a 5 dollar bill) to make change at the laundromat. I had a lot to wash so the money disappeared quickly. I only had a 20 dollar Bill left and still needed to dry the clothing at the laundromat. I could not get change with the 20 dollar bill at the laundromat so I walked over to buy something else at this poor excuse for an establishment Benson's Liquor. I got a coke and this loser working the counter (idk if he is the owner or just worker) frowned and growled and said "fuck". And I asked "what?" and he responded "This laundromat is killing me". I felt so uncomfortable and humiliated for being a customer and spending my hard earned money here. I responded, "I don't have to buy this coke here". The worker mumbled and said "it's ok". He did not apologize. This is a place that could have had me as a customer for years since I recently moved to this neighborhood. I was actually disappointed that they didn't carry it. This liquor store is pretty small and they seemed to have a lot of things that any other convenient store would carry except for the item that I was looking for. Used to be great and I was a regular for about a year and a half. Now they jacked up the prices and have horrible customer service. Story Time: I live nearby and buy milk from here once or twice a week for the convenience. Used to be $5 for a gallon, now it's $6. This deterred me from going there as often, but it wasn't until my most recent visit that I decided to never go there again. Last time I was there, the gallon of milk I purchased was sour. When I tried it and realized, I immediately went back to return it for another. I know how it can go with milk , so I just mentioned to the man at the register it was sour. No complaints. His response was to act very suspicious, provide no apology, and examine the milk. After he was done, he refused to let me try another gallon of 2%, only giving me the options of: getting a gallon of whole milk, getting ONE 1/2 gallon of 2% (because giving me TWO 1/2 gallons would mean the business would lose out on $2 extra), or giving me my money back. He mentioned multiple times that he has no way of knowing that the milk I returned is actually sour or not and that he was doing me a favor by believing me. Keep in mind there was only half a glass of milk missing from the jug I returned, so the thought of cheating the business for extra milk hardly holds any water. Obviously, I was very offended by this, so I informed him he was going to lose me as a customer if he kept acting this way and to just let me switch it out for another gallon of 2%. He did not. So I got my money back and left. Blatant disregard for your customers and treating them like they are trying to cheat you (when they are not) is not the correct way to run a business. And no, not tucked away in a corner or waaay up top like some places...they've got Fat Tire, Dogfish Head, Stone, and all sorts of other beers right at eye level. I LOVE that. Prices....well, prices can be a bit high. But you can't beat a shop with this kind of selection. And the great service. What's even better is the staff is as non-judgemental as they come. You go in to buy a king size pack of Reese's and a bottle of cabernet at 3pm on a Wednesday...they'll talk to you about the Lakers and not blink an eye at your obvious eating disorder/alcohol problem. Unfortunately, this review isn't for a Thai foo/liquor store combo, though that would be awesome and would take care of several desires at once. I was going to say "needs" but only alcoholics "need" liquor and I've yet to hear of a similar disorder for Thai food. The closest liquor store to my house also happens to be the best one around for miles. Their beer selection is outstanding - they frequently rotate their stock, so seasonal ales are readily available. From imports like Belgian ales to hoppy domestic microbrews, this place has got a selection to make beer lovers' livers ache. If you're coming here for the standard Bud or Coors, they have 'em too of course - but save your money and head over to the grocery store instead. No, you'll pay a slight premium for your alcohol here - often exceeding $10 for a six-pack that you wouldn't find at the Ralph's down the street. But I just think about the times when I'm out at a bar and I happily exclaim "Oh, $3 beers, that's cheap!" Then I don't hesitate to plunk down some change for premium beer that's usually less than $2/bottle. read more

Let me tell you a little story about "sparks" One Saturday morning, body aching from a night of intoxication, I stepped out of my bedroom to find my roommate and two friends in my apartment. They were consuming Sparks, in a general state of excitement. It was obvious the stuff had worked upon them, giving their eyes an alarming, focused glaze. One of my friends made berserk gestures as he exhorted me to join them. I put back two tallboys. At first, I felt a little giddy, like I was riding a small swing, or a pony. Thirty minutes later, I thought my head was in a microwave. I heard noises of young rattlesnakes. My eyes were abuzz and I was sure my vision was somehow crackling. These symptoms subsided after I induced vomiting and lay hyperventilating for 20 minutes. In short, I can neither recommend nor warn against Sparks until I have tested it more rigorously read more

Benson Liquor.... It's the closest liquor store to my house and not only that BUT....they have a HUGE selection on beers and booze! The most unique bottles and the variety is almost as big as BevMo (in liquor store size of course) who would have thought right? I LOVE THIS LIQUOR STORE! I go here often and the guys know me so well. I can even ask for special orders for beer. If i hear of something somewhere they order a case just for me. Those guys can be a little creepy but I'm a guy so its always good for me. Its nice because they are open late and I'm just around the corner. I never have to walk far when I want to start a party! They have decent prices and one of the best beer selections around long beach and I would know because I am a certified beer snob! While I'm having a hard time finding a liquor store here in LBC that has a great scotch selection, Benson's did the trick in a pinch. They have a reasonable selection of single malt scotches for a small liquor store, including Balvenie and Cragganmore. In addition, they have a pretty good beer selection, including some nice microbrews covering the gamut from Lager, Porter, IPA, etc... I'm giving this place 3 stars because I think it's A-OK. Now it wouldn't be called a liquor store if it didn't have liquor Bensons has wide variety to pick from whether it be tequilas, vodkas, rums, or seltzers you name Benson's has it. Personally, I recommend casamigos but one of my buddies in particular is quite fond of the twisted teas that Bensons carries. They have very good prices as well as unbeatable quality and customer service. Hector the owner provides amazing service and if you ever have any needs or questions make sure to ask him as he will make sure that all your needs are met. One day my husband went ape sheeat crazy to find Sailor Jerry. We must have hit 6 liquor stores and 2 grocery stores and it became such a challenge that it was almost funny. By the time we got to Benson we were confused and giddy. They must have thought we were clinically insane. The question we had asked over and over finally came back with a Yes, we do have it.
