We've been going here for years and last night I requested to exchange a bottle of Menage 'a Trois Chardonnay that was sour and brown when I opened it, but I had no receipt. At that time I had just finished paying for a 12 pack of beer. The clerk said "we don't do that" to my request for the exchange. He also never gave me receipt for the beer. I came home and told my old man not to stop there anymore (he is the one who stops) and we will tell our friends who literally stop there everyday to not go anymore and we are Long Beach natives who are loyal to each other so for a ten or fifteen bottle of wine...lost a lot of sales. Selection is fun there, too, but we are involved in professional beer brewing so no loss for us. Customer service has been pleasant in the past, but the answer of "we don't do that" rubbed me wrong, over one bottle of wine. Recently went back to the old neighborhood to check out Stearns Liqour. As I was looking around I asked the woman at the counter if she had a certain Bourbon? She replied let me ask whoever the man was because he'll sometimes have them hidden. She walks over to the man in the humidor and returns saying he'll be right with you. After standing there waiting 5 minutes I decided to leave.... Told her thank you but I'm good. She had a puzzled look as to why am I leaving. If this guy can't stop for a minute to assist a customer or answer a question they don't need my business. This place has gone down hill since Danny sold it and the prices have increased with mediocre bourbons! 2 stars and not 1 by default because it my old hood. read more

Ordered online from them. I received a wrong order, they didn't call to ask what I wanted my items to be replaced with. When I tried to get a refund and ask if I can return it, they left me on hold for 10 minutes and then when I hung up and tried to call back they wouldn't answer my calls. So they basically just stole $70 from me. Update: now they are claiming that I was contacted which I was not and they can't make the return. So they've definitely stolen $70 from me. Spoke to the owner and he was very kind and apologetic and fixed everything for me. read more

This is a great spot where on the outside you assume it's just another liquor store. Then go inside and it's like a mini Bevmo but with better customer service. Walk-in fridges, a huge variety of beers and wines. Staff is always a few feet away and more then willing to help you navigate the aisles or make recommendations if you ask. Great range of tequilas and mezcal. Appearances can be deceiving: from the street this looks like a typical neighbourhood liquor store. Inside: huge chiller full of beers and whites. I rarely give liquor stores a bad rating, but this one has definitely earned it. For a shop with an impressive bourbon, scotch & whiskey selection, their prices are WAY above secondary now. You used to be able to find some gems at a decent price, but ever since they expanded to Redondo and remodeled this store, forget it. Even when they increase their buy of basics from Buffalo Trace/Sazerac or Heaven Hill to get some of the allocated bottles, they hike the prices way too high and try to convince you you're getting a deal. I have been coming here since it was Sterns liquor store. The kid that was "helping" with the beer selections SUCKED. You could have tried to help us out, while we were staggering around looking for some beers. I waited around to ask a question but this annoying ass couple was just there asking about Ales and IPAS all this bullsh*t! They obviously couldnt make up their minds on what they wanted. I knew what I wanted and I just had a question for alternatives for the beers they had but instead I was told "we sold our last one.." with no other offers or suggestions. My husband ended up buying $50 bucks worth of shit any ways when I wanted to leave with nothing. Last time I come here. I've been coming here for YEARS. Everyone that has helped us in the past, wonderful folks had knowledge on their drink selections and customer service was good, they knew to help others equally and ASKED if others needed help. read more

Sure you can probably purchase some of the same bottles at Lazy Acres or maybe Whole Foods, but the excitement of new brews all the time is what gets us going back to Stearn's. It also helps that they announce new brews via Instagram and Facebook. Sucks when they sell out of one you like because you'll never know when/if they will restock but it does get you to try different beers. Great selection. They even have a walk-in cooler. If you're overwhelmed, you can always ask somebody for recommendations. Or .... They have an app for that: Rate Beer! Be careful and check for prices before getting to the counter. It's easy to find stores that sell a variety of craft beer in L.A., but in Long Beach it is limited to a few popular labels. A friend of ours, who is our walking Beer Advocate, recommended we try Sterns liquor, because in Long Beach they are the only place where we could find what we were looking for. So we went, gawked, drooled and beamed over their selection. FINALLY! A place where we can buy good beer! My only complaint was that they didn't have the Ayinger, Celebrator, but who am I to complain when I had so much more to choose from. The staff is friendly and prices are reasonable. I'll recommend this liquor store to beer lovers in Long Beach and anyone visiting from the greater L.A. area. read more

This is a great liquor store. It has everything you could want and lots of special items. I stopped to buy tequila for a friend's birthday and was amazed at how many choices I had! Their wines are great and there are lots of delicious selections. My husband wanted a strawberry liqueur recently and they had some really special ones to choose from. And it's so easy to pop in and get what you need, much nicer than going to a large chain type of store. Excellent customer service too. This is our new go-to place :) read more

If you love craft beer then this is the place for you. They have a lot of selections from local breweries and they announce limited shipments on their social media outlets. They have a good selection of 22oz bottles in their walk-in cooler which range from $4-$8 for your average choices ranging to an upwards of $20. They also carry 4 and 6 packs located in the back corner outside of the walk-in cooler. They also sell glassware for beer such as snifters and pint glasses which go at a decent price and if you normally drink from the bottle you should definitely up your experience by pouring into glassware. They also sell soda's and they have a good selection of root beer here which I pick up time to time. The staff is really cool and have walked up to me a few times to ask if I needed advice or anything because I'm sure they understand that the selection sometimes leaves people dumbfounded. The " Under new management" sign must also mean "we don't care about customer service". This place still had good beers and whiskey I guess, but the atmosphere has changed. No "Hello" as you walk in, condescending attitudes to questions, and no "thank you" after a purchase. I have been coming here for years and recommending it to others, but no longer. I bet your crappy attitudes make you feel good about yourselves, but that isnt going to help pay your bills gentlemen. The previous staff would had gotten five stars. Go learn from them. read more

I think I just saw one of your employees get fired. It was strange and unsettling. There was a long line of people at the register when the large, bald guy yelled the name of the guy stocking shelves. (this was Sunday around 3:00pm) The stocker came up confused and the large guy said loudly: "you were not to punch in yet." The stocker continued to look confused, then the large guy handed him an envelope and said with bravado: "I told you that I was to be feared." The stocker took off his gloves and went to the back, then came back up to linger around while the large guy returned to checking us all out. I'm not sure what exactly the situation was, but the manner in which it was done was unprofessional and rather off-putting. I don't want to see someone lose their job while I'm having a nice Sunday afternoon shopping for beer, and the pubic shaming seemed entirely unnecessary. So I guess I'll file this under "poor management" and leave one star here, since I figure this is an example of how things are run on the business side, and it's not the sort of thing I choose to support. As for the beer, they have a good selection of 22s, and your standard craft 6 packs. Not much for imports aside from Belgian beers. Some freshness issues, I always have to hunt through the 6 packs checking dates, and some consistency issues as well. Cheers read more

Usually go to the one on Atlantic so I have high expectations because I have only had positive experiences there. So upon walking in to simply get a pop, was disappointed as the selection is not nearly as extensive as the one on Atlantic sure that be true with their liquor and beer selection as well. Was very unimpressed but what put the cherry on the top is I was in line behind someone who had requested a sample of a specific whiskey and she opened it and even opened a pack of mini shot cups to give it to him. So I asked Rebecca( if that is even her name) for a sample which she told me I couldn't have one because she did not know me. Caught off guard how rude and poor her customer service was to not be able to comprehend how it may appear to do so when you just offered someone in front me a taste. I figured she was actually doing something illegal by allowing him to sample with out a tasting license for alcohol. She also has a poor attitude as well. If you're near by this one would recommend making the 3 mile trip down the way to the one off Atlantic which is no longer owned by the same people. The one off Atlantic has more of selection and amazing customer service experience been rocking with those guys since 2018 . read more

Good selection of craft beers and the owner loves craft beer as well. They have some decent prices on some beers, but on beers without price tags beware: make sure you ask for the price before you get rung up. I ended up paying $14 for a single bottle of a beer that should have only cost $9. I didnt want to turn the beer down due to price after the owner talked to me for so long about beer i wanted to patronize him. A I just felt slightly taken advantage of but lesson learned. Check the prices before you buy. Also, ignore what the owner says about other liquor stores. He'll say other stores overcharge on certain beers and thats why they still have inventory on rare beers but this store does the same thing so definitely go visit other liquor stores. I was pretty bummed when i walked into another store and saw the price difference. read more

Most people either come here from near and far for the craft beer selection or they're locals getting lotto tickets and whatever their fix is. It looks like a normal liquor store but beyond the snacks, sodas, macro brews, wines, and standard spirits are unique local and imported craft beers as well as high end liquors. What really makes the place shine is the diligence of the owner to maintain rotating stock along with suggestions he and his friendly staff are willing to offer. After just one visit, the next time I walked in the clerk showed me new brews in my favorite style. I was sold. Yes, new stock is sometimes posted on Instagram and Facebook which can be a blessing and a curse; there are limits on super rare/popular stuff; they do run out pretty quickly. Don't be afraid to ask if you don't see what you want. And if you see what you want, pick it up because someone else is probably walking in for the same thing. Beer is what I love and I feel that the pricing is fair and competitive with other shops for similar items. If I had to point out one "drawback" for the less thirsty: the place is heavy with 22oz bombers/750ml. But the diversity in smaller bottles makes up for that. A lot of stores are popping up with similar distribution, but Stearn's always seems to have a treat ready. read more
