I can't get enough of Bentley Bowl! I always get the Bentley Signature Bowl, "MVP" size. It hits the spot every time. Every flavor works so well together. From the fried chicken to the Mac n cheese to the smothered greens and all the goodness inbetween. I didn't even know I could love a sweep potato this much, until I had their sweet potatoes. And the cornbread is soft on the inside with the perfect outer crunch. Truly, heaven in a bowl. They do some amazing in house hot sauces, and you don't want to skimp on those. I brought my brother with me on my last visit, and tried the BBQ Fry Bowl he got. It was of course delicious as well. The Waller brothers and family team making the magic happen are extremely kind and friendly people. They have a way of making you feel like a part of the greater Bentley Bowl Family. Of course, a special shout out to Auntie Ora who seems to always be in the kitchen or onsite, working her magic. She always greets me with a warm smile and asks me how I am doing. They're truly the sweetest folks. They often run regularly out of their kitchen in downtown Bakersfield, though they still keep the food truck very active and you can find it regularly at all of greater Bakersfield's best events. I was excited to support this local soul food truck because two amazing young men work hard to make it happen. We ordered through door dash and tried the "make your own" bowl. My husband raved about the fried chicken because it's made with thigh meat and has a crispy fried batter. They provide great service and aim to please their customers. When I saw that they were open at their headquarters location on Truxtun Avenue, I decided to place an online order. My order was prepaid and confirmed via email at 3:06 p.m., with an estimated pickup time between 3:26 p.m. and 3:41 p.m. About 10 minutes later, I received a call informing me they had run out of rice and asking what substitution I preferred. At that point, I assumed my order was being prepared, and I was genuinely excited since I had been looking forward to their chicken, collard greens, and Purple Sippin' drink. I arrived at 3:32 p.m. and noticed a line of about 10-12 people at their truck. At the pickup window, I was told they were running behind and that it would be about 20 more minutes, which would put my order ready around 3:51 p.m. I agreed and waited. When I returned at 3:56 p.m., the line had cleared, but I was informed after several minutes that they had run out of seared chicken as well, and it would be another 10-15 minutes. At that point, nearly an hour had passed since placing my order, and after already being called once about a shortage and then asked to wait additional time, I requested a refund. The staff member who processed the refund kindly suggested I return on Tuesday, but unfortunately, I left with the impression that my order had been deprioritized in favor of walk-up customers. With the line gone and my order still incomplete, it felt neglected. This was disappointing, especially since I had driven specifically to their location for the experience, and I had high expectations based on the many positive reviews regarding both their food and service. I have a screenshot of the schedule they posted (like the one showing 10/1 and 10/2), which clearly states "DoorDash ONLY!" next to the specific operating hours. For a delivery customer, the delivery hours are the only hours that matter, and regardless of the platform, the time you post must be accurate and consistently honored. My Conclusion Stands: My review was about inconsistency and unreliability. The owner's highly defensive, overly personal, and unprofessional response confirms they are not ready to handle critical feedback or operate with the standard of clarity customers expect. So when I say, Big Mama and the aunties would be proud of you two young men Bentley and Kadar, I mean it.
