This was the first time visiting the physical location here at Martin's meats. We have eaten the BBQ on several different occasions because when my youngest was in Jr High at Tevis the school would have Martin's Meats cater for the band fundraisers and we would always love the food and we have grabbed food when they are at the Farmer's Market. We always talked about visiting, but every time we are downtime we don't ever think of this place. We ended up here because our original choice for lunch was super busy and there was no parking so we drove around and I said.... Hey let's go to Martin's meats, we haven't had their food in a minute. When we got there, it wasn't busy at all. The people there was super duper nice. I actually enjoyed our interaction, I could be wrong but I think the one that took our orders was Martin himself. He was very pleasant, I didn't know what to get, he didn't pressure us or anything and allowed us to take our time. I want to say that the sweet lady in the back was his wife and she was helping with the orders too. While we waited for our food I did notice that they were giving out food to homeless people asking for food. In a time where people are struggling and the economy is the way it is, I really loved seeing this. When you walk in, it's not just a BBQ spot, it's also a cute little grocery store/meat market with fresh produce. There's not a lot of tables to sit at, but they don't have too many people dining in so you wont have a hard time finding a place to sit. The prices are decent and they have something for everyone. I would love to come back again, even though it's a little drive away. Parking is not too bad either since it's not that busy, but if you don't want to head downtown, I believe they still go out to the Farmer's Market every weekend, but I absolutely recommend Martin's meats, the BBQ is delicious. :-) read more

I'm sorry but I would not recommend this place due to the fact I had ordered a rib plate and my ribs were not cooked, it was still raw lightly cooked at the top. Picked up 1/2 slab of ribs at the Farmers Market on Sunday May 31st. They were dry and inedible. Whoever cut those and put them in the container should have seen they were overcooked to the point they had a jerky like texture. I had to throw them out. Won't buy from them again without checking the quality before I leave the area. read more

Review for Haggin Oaks Farmer's Market: Decided to splurge on a Tri-tip burrito since it smelled so good and I wanted something on which I could put salsa. Definitely not worth $15 plus another $1 for cheese. Meat was so fatty I left half of it on my plate and the rice and beans had no flavor other than salt. Guy taking the orders is nice. The woman begrudgingly handing out salsa is unpleasant. Salsa cups are tiny and not even full. I should have gone to Alfonso's even though their quality has dropped as well. I love the opportunity to support a local family business. I've ordered from Martin's Meats twice now. I must say that the food in excellent. All the meat has that perfect smoked flavor. The Tri-Tip is cooked perfectly, the chicken was moist and juicy and hot links had a nice kick and the ribs were tender all the way down to the bone. Service here is always top notch, you can all or even text your preorder in, which is nice. They accept Venmo, Apple Pay and good old fashioned cash. The business itself is small, located in historic mill creek. It's small inside, but they do offer seating outside. I stop here every time I'm in the area. The last few stops I added the tri-tip to my usual beef deep pit order. Both dishes are so delicious! Martin knows how to do Que just right! I'm a returning customer! Martin's has always been one of my favorite places for lunch; they make the best tri tip sandwich in town! This time, we ordered a meal deal they had for New Year's. It included a rack of ribs. Whole BBQ chicken, and 2 lbs of tri tip, plus salsa, BBQ sauce, and rolls. There are four of us hanging out, and we know how to eat, but the food was so plentiful that it took us three days to eat it all! That includes a few luscious pieces for our puppy! The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the chicken was perfect, and the tri tip was moist and juicy! For $100 it was a steal and a deal! I also like that they take Venmo for anything you want to buy. Very convenient! You can bet we'll be back soon! read more

Review is for farmer's market location/ Haggin Oaks. I ordered the breakfast burrito with high hopes! Walked by here several times and always wanted to try them out. Today was the day! Burritos was $16+ ordered it anyway because I just knew it would be worth every penny! Long story short it was not. Pretty small burrito for the price. Size was similar to a Taco Bell bean n cheese. I was disappointed but I knew it would be delicious but sadly it was just average like a 4/10 average. Although we have visited their brick and mortar location several times, we usually visit Martin's stall at the Sunday farmers market. My daughter gets a quesadilla every time, but I think we've pretty much had most of what they sell, and it's all delicious. We especially love the tritip. More importantly, they are good people. My daughter is autistic, and they always greet her warmly, and Audrey compliments her on her picture (she carries a pictures of Paw Patrol characters everywhere she goes). The blonde lady at the booth handing out orders was unbelievably rude and unprofessional. When I politely asked for cutlery, she snapped at me and told me I needed to move just because she had called out someone's order and they were behind me. On top of that, she was around the food with her hair down and constantly on her phone, which is both unsanitary and unprofessional. She clearly has no customer service skills and no regard for cleanliness. The whole experience was unpleasant, and I definitely won't be coming back. read more

I've heard about this place a few times for the past several years, but didn't have the opportunity to visit until today. My boss mentioned barbecue and sandwiches from Martin's, and all of us in the office decided to check out the menu. We were instantly excited! This establishment sits on the corner of 21st and Q Streets in a building that I'm sure has seen it's fair share of history. I love the little antiques inside, especially the wood wall crank phone that sits along the northern wall by the window. The people who work there are very hospitable and welcoming to their customers. I ordered the Beefy Philly Cheese Steak, while my coworkers ordered the Tri Tip Sandwich, Pastrami Sandwich, Italian Sandwich, and BBQ Ribs. All the food looked delicious! And, the food was still amazingly hot after bringing it back to the office. The portions were decent and the smell of BBQ was invigorating. What a great lunch for a Friday. My only issue is that they did not give me notice about the small fee for using a credit/debit card before charging my card. However, this did not affect my overall rating of this establishment since they told me I could pick any size drink I wanted for one of the meals I ordered. Best BBQ ribs I've ever had. We cater Martin's Meats for our annual family get together when we have it in Bakersfield every few years. They had actually delivered and set up our entire order and we've on occasion picked it up. The sides are delicious too. Always fresh and hot, just off the grill meats. We never have to reheat anything. Great service as well. We've ordered ribs, links, chicken and tri tip, beans, potato salad, salad, white rice, rolls, salad and BBQ sauce. I've tried to push through the rude customer service they provide but today was the final straw. The owner answers the phone and takes the orders so there's no bypassing the rude customer service. She doesn't care that she loses business either. She's condescending and acts like it's an inconvenience to answer questions you have. This has been my interaction every time I have ordered here. I am here at the farmers market sitting here with my baby nephew and sister eating Martins Meats. This lady comes up saying "excuse me" speaking to us while holding the chair next to my baby nephew. His hand is on the chair and I told her she can just take it (even though his hand is on it, not a big deal he's ok.) She stares me down and I am wondering if this is someone I know because she is staring for a while and maybe she didn't want the chair , maybe she knew us. She looks at me and tells me "yeah I will take it because these are ours." And gets the chair and walks away. I don't know why you are so bitter lady, to make you think it is okay to be rude , to your own customers like that. Must be your age. You should really check the customer service.
