I came to Bentley Ridge Tree Farms and Nursery to find some ground cover for a corner of my house where poor drainage, erosion, and those dang little cute, annoying, property destroying ground squirrels had destroyed a limestone retaining wall that I had. When I got there all I had was a few pics I took from the internet of some ideas I researched from the night before. Let me preface this, I do NOT like to shop and dreaded being there for hours, and was basically clueless of what to do! Then I was introduced to Jasmarie, she was AMAZING!! She was extremely knowledgeable and passionate, I showed her pics of my house and what I was looking for and then that girl was on a mission!! With little hesitation we were off and running, she already had her vision for my needs! She shared her ideas, asked for my opinion and I was just in awe of her and so delighted she made this dreaded chore an actual enjoyable learning experience for me and being a retired teacher I appreciated it! I just sat back and let her take the reins, as through her knowledge and passion she earned my trust! She showed me how I should organize the plants for when I got home, made me take pics, and continued to answer questions after I got home and started planting. We purchased a $250 horsechestnut tree in spring 2023. In late spring, the tree developed brown spots that enlarged with time. By the end of August, the leaves were mostly brown, unsightly, and had started to fall. I did some on-line research and found this type of tree is especially susceptible to fungus / brown patch and, each spring, required multiple applications of fungicide--possibly more. We were not advised about this at the time of purchase. So I called the nursery and complained about the problem. The manager told me the problem was likely due to drought. I told him about my on-line research and he said lots of types of trees have fungus / brown patch. I told him I had never seen any in the neighborhoods we have lived in during my 70 years. He very caustically asked if I was calling him a liar, and became quite nasty. The next year, I sprayed the tree with fungicide at bud swell and three times after, at about one-week intervals. We were careful about raking up any "diseased leaves" the prior fall. Still, the leaves started to develop brown patches in June 2024 and the tree was again unsightly by mid-August. I again called the store and the problem once more was blamed on the drought, even though we watered the tree regularly with a five-gallon bucket. I had someone from Master Arborists of DSM look at the tree. He confirmed horsechestnut trees are especially prone to leaf diseases, and said the nursery should have advised us of that. In spring of 2025, I again sprayed the tree with fungicide, wetting all surfaces four times. Again, we had removed all diseased leaves the prior fall. By mid-June, the tree was getting brown spots. By this time, we had had enough. My wife and I drove to the nursery and asked for a refund or a full credit toward a new tree. The manager again refused to do anything, telling us the problem is due to "environmental factors." (Aren't almost all tree problems due to "environmental factors?") To my way of thinking, our experience was somewhat like being sold an ash tree without being told it is susceptible to emerald ash borers. It was clear the owner was using invalid excuses to push us beyond the one-year warranty period. read more

I was really intimidated by the prospect of landscaping around my house, but the information that is provided on site and on their website was so informative! It was way more information than I've seen at other places, including pictures of what it'll look like at various points of the year. The variety of plants and shrubs is a little overwhelming when I started to look online but it really helped me to narrow in on choices before I went out. I thought the prices were very reasonable compared to other landscaping places in the metro as well. Looking forward to years of enjoyment from my purchases and will be back. read more

The quality of the trees is so good. The staff is helpful and really knowledgeable. The yard decorations are fun and reasonably priced. Bought a nice tree from Bentley Ridge Tree Farm and they planted the tree just over a year ago. A very small hole was dug by Bentley Ridge Tree Farm. With a little pushing the dirt and clay hole dug barely fit the root ball . I consulted Bentley Ridge tree Farm several times asking for advice why the tree was not thriving. They were more than happy to sell me anti-fungus spray and root growing food. I consulted with other people and a reputable arborist only to find out that the tree was improperly planted in the Waukee Clay. The whole dug by Bentley Tree, Farm should have been 2 to 3 times larger. The tree longevity was doomed from the beginning. The tree never had a chance to spread out his root system. The arborist suggested removing some dirt, creating a larger area around the tree and backfilling it with dirt not clay. I went back to Bentley tree Farm and showed him photos and what the arborist had said. They said that's the way they plant them and they had no interest in helping me with the tree. So if you plant a tree in a small hole with lots of clay the tree will not make it much further than their warranty. They sell you all kinds of products so you can try to save your tree when they know the tree hole should have been much bigger when planted. If you're not buying a tree or just asking to purchase a product, their attitude can be very unpleasant, uncaring and very nasty . They become almost hostile, when suggesting replacing the tree, or digging around the tree to make the hole bigger. So buyer beware when it comes to planting your new tree. They really don't care how it was planted only that they got the tree and product sales. read more

I went there looking for two specific plants. They had the one that I was really interested in replacing. They were very helpful and polite. There were lots of employees loading trucks and collecting plants for landscaping. I normally go to the two nurseries in town. I don't really even think of Bentley Ridge Tree Farm, but from now on they will be my first stop. read more

Moved to a new house last and needed to add trees and bushes. Bentley helped me find the best greenery, junipers and a beautiful crimson maple tree. I had Bentley ant the trees. They did amazing work. I recommend. read more
