After completing my first year at Berea College, I can say that Berea Coffee and Tea provided the perfect ambiance for studying, socializing, or conducting meetings. My favorite coffee during the fall season is the Pumpkin Spice Latte, but during any other part of the year, a Vanilla Latte is my go-to drink for a morning pick-me-up. Many of their breakfast quiches are a great add to the morning routine that vary from day-to-day but have a vegetarian option. The coffee shop itself use to be an old pharmacy that still, today, has the original bar with seats so you can experience a blast-from-the-past. The service is spectacular because on most days you have the chance to interact with owner himself, Adam, as well as fabulous hospitality from the servers. Then for lunch or dinner you can grab great deli sandwiches with healthy options of chips and flavored teas, as well. For all of the coffee drinkers out there, this place is a must-see on your time here at Berea. You can interact with a variety of community members and most likely run into other tourists as well. This establishment doesn't even deserve one star. The owner, Adam Walker, has a history of harassment and violence. As a former Berea College student, I can attest to the fact that Adam has both verbally and physically attacked fellow classmates of mine. Furthermore, the place itself is not clean. A friend and I got food poisoning about a year ago after consuming their "Roma" vegetarian panini - we are not the only ones who have gotten sick after eating the food. It looks like the floors are never swept and the food prep area is just flat out nasty. I've heard from former employees that Adam will only make an effort to clean if he catches word that the health inspector is coming. Needless to say, I DO NOT recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of other restaurants/coffee shops in Berea that are actually clean and whose staff treats the community with respect. Try Noodle Nirvana, Native Bagel, Clementine's or Papaleno's. Berea Coffee & Tea not only has Coffee & Tea, but rather a variety sweets and pastries. On a regular day, I often stop by and get there Giant Chocolate Ultimate Brownie. Their service is so good, that they offer to warm up any item that you chose to order. The brownie great when it is warm. I often tend to their breakfast sandwiches that they serve all day until they are gone. They go very quickly! Sausage egg & cheese biscuits are my favorite! I can eat at least 2 a day. The employees there are very friendly and they often build relationships with everyday customers such as myself. They show that they recognize your face and sometimes recall a previous item that you had and assume you're going to order it again that day. That's how good they are. I've never had their sandwiches. but I haven't found a flaw in BC&T services yet, & I don't think you will. :) One of my favorite places to eat in Berea. read more

It is located in Berea, Kentucky just down the block from Bonne Tavern Hotel, BC&T is Kentucky's first Green Restaurant. The shop is located in the heart of Berea almost in the middle of a college campus. BC&T sees a diverse group of visitors, young and old, everyday. I personally go here every morning that I am in Berea. I cannot start my day without a cup of their fair trade coffee. However, their coffee is not the only thing I find heavenly. As far as tantalizing your taste buds their scones, bagels, sandwiches, ice cream, tea, and more are all worthy of the job. BC&T is in a particularly convenient location for both college students and Boone Tavern guests. Because of this, it can attract quite a crowd on weekends and during the school year. I have had to leave a couple times in the past because there was no seating available or it was too noisy inside, though the outside seating is fair game when the weather is pleasant. The coffee should be better for the price. Most of the specialty drinks are too sweet, especially the chai latte. I do enjoy their mocha joe, however. They have a decent selection of teas; the chili chocolate tea is an interesting favorite of mine. I would also recommend their cinnamon rolls. One of the better qualities of BC&T is its comfortable, funky coffee shop atmosphere. It's a good place to relax after a long day of classes or shopping in College Square. read more

I love just about everything about BC&T, a Berea classic. You must stop in here whether you are a Berea local or a tourist. They recently started offering gluten-free bread, which is a Godsend for anyone gluten-free or with Celiac disease such as myself. Last night I had the Mediterranean sandwich (comes with pickle and side of chips) and Apple Spiced Chai for dinner; it was glorious. Easily the best meal I've had in a long time. The service at BC&T is personable, exceptionally friendly, and very welcoming. This, coupled with the quality of the food and drinks and the relaxed atmosphere of the shop, makes this one of my favorite destinations in Berea. The atmosphere of this quaint shop, with acoustic music playing in the background and scents of roasted coffee and herbal teas hovering in the air, creates a welcoming environment. It is conveniently located along College Square and is a great place to meet up with friends for conversation or to simply catch up on some reading. There are several seating options - the traditional cafe chairs with round table, bar stools and counter, or the comfy couches. There is also the option of sitting outside, either in front of the store or behind it. While I have never personally eaten anything at this shop, I have had many tea drinks and have been satisfied with each one. This is where all the "cool" college kids go to study or to just hang out and have a nice cup of coffee. The lighting in this facility is low and gives off the working vibe where you are not stressed in getting anything done just going with the flow. BC&T is what the locals call this place and it is well known around in town. The white hot chocolate is my favorite and is well worth the money spent. They have a lot of different choices they are now even serving gluten free bread which is really convent for some of the college student or locals with a gluten allergy and like going out and having a cup of coffee, because now they are not limited. I really love the people who work here because they will talk to you as long as possible and I really enjoy that. read more

I love BC&T for the simple fact that its relaxing environment, healthy sandwich selection, hearty dessert choices, and endless drink menu satisfy my taste-buds. My favorite dessert choices would have to be their huge cinnamon glazed buns, or their fluffy, brownies that they make fresh every day. This place also has free-WIFI to accommodate tourists, locals, and college students such as myself who are looking for a relaxing place to study. I believe the best part about this place is the staff members who's cordial personalities make you want to come back and visit. As I was walking through Berea College Square, BC&T's tidy storefront and fresh plants caught my eye. I entered and was welcomed by a friendly barista who took my order. The shop is decorated in brown and black, and the alluring aroma of coffee is accompanied by relaxing background music. Espresso, Kaffe Mocha, Americano, Cappuccino, and Latte are just a few of the coffees that are available at this coffee shop. Additionally, they offer a selection of smoothies and pastries. My coffee was excellent, and the cost was reasonable for the caffeinated beverage. The shop gets a 5/5 from me. While you're in Berea, I highly advise you to visit BC. It's a must-stop location. I have been at Berea College for two years now and never get tired of stopping here. The place relaxes you after a long day of work and classes. It is a great place to meet friends and chill. The vibe you get when walking in is very homey and friendly. You will find many people socializing or just on their own reading, Even if the place is full you can find a spot and relax. It is very different from other coffee shops. If you want to order food you go to the counter and then they will bring your food to your spot if you do not feel like waiting. We are currently at a conference with community partners and business owners from Berea, hosted by EPG and we have some samples of pastries from BC&T. I spotted Lou DeLuca, a civic leader in the city, enthusiastically eating one of the pastries and when I asked for his opinion, this is what I heard: "Bing Cherry and Chocolate Scone was perfectly (yes, perfectly!) baked, moist and tasty" I have to add that my own experience with the BC&T pastries is just as amazing! BC&T is the college student hangout. It has a great atmosphere for students and those needing to use the wifi or homework. the Coffee and Tea are fair trade and the service is extremely fast and friendly. I can find myself eating there for lunch, dinner, breakfast and even for dessert. There is a wide variety of soups and sandwiches and their cheesecake is to die for! Sometimes there may be limited space to sit down, especially in the mornings, but that is true of any small business. They offer free wifi and displays a great ambiance. If you are looking for a great cup of coffee and a sandwich, this is the ideal place to go. read more

Paul is always playing great tunes, so if he's working you're prone to want to start singing along! The various pastries they serve are always delicious, the good thing about it is they make different things everyday! Along with its amazing food, BC&T has an incredibly comfortable atmosphere. The lights are typically dimmed down while music is playing in the background. Each and every time I walk into BC&T, I feel at peace with myself. This place is one of the best places to get coffee, and food. It is also a good place to get together with friends. Most of all it is cozy and light to sit and zone out of the hectic life of college life. I usually grab coffee and immerse in my own world. This is probably the most popular coffee shop in Berea. Located at the college square, BC&T is a darling of students at Berea, faculty and staff. This restaurant is really nice and it has a cool and calm vibe. There is dim lighting, but it is great for romantic or casual evenings. You go up to the counter to order, but then they will often bring the food out to you and what not. You pay after you eat which I thought was interesting. The staff is really friendly and nice. They often put out free food for the block parties. That stuff is always delish! When I ordered food I had the chicken salad sandwich. It was pretty good and average price. This is my favorite establishment I've ever been too. It has always pleasant and helpful employees and the atmosphere is very relaxed and accepting. It's perfect for any age group and carries items on their menus that anyone could like and there is wifi! I've tried nearly ever item on their menu, and from the coffees to the sandwiches, it's all delicious. However, if you have a nut allergy, the baked goods are not safe to eat because it's all prepared in the same area, so that's one thing they could work on.
