Food and napkin utensil basket on table.
    James B.

It's been awhile since I visited a Cracker Barrel and elected to stop by this one twice while visiting family in the area while traveling. The food was to be expected, hot, well presented and of good taste and portion size. Service was great and wait time during "busier" lunch and dinner times was great along with wait staff service. My one question in regard to how the dining experience is set up is with the silverware and napkin setup. As you can see from my photo is basically set up as a "common grab what you need at the table setup." Meaning, that each person at the table grabs their silverware set they need along with a napkin from this small basket. My concern and disapproval of this stems from a sanitary and food safety nature in using this method. First, you can rest assured that the basket itself is most likely not washed via 3 compartment sink or dish washer after each guest. Second, the fact that every guest at a table has to reach in with their fingers and touch every utensil as they are trying to capture their own set is not in any way food safe.. Sure, most folk sit together with family. But, what if you are not? Regardless, whether it's family or not how can anyone be sure of cleanliness from one person or another! Or, at the very least be sure that the basket has been cleaned or all the items within have been placed "fresh" with each new guest? Perhaps this does not violate any food safety or health and sanitation regulations. But, at the very least it gives a visitor a very odd initial impression. And sets a very uncomfortable tone of what might be ahead in the dining experience. It would be good if they re evaluate this setup moving forward.

Separated the meat from the fat.

Normally okay, but not consistent. Today I got the roast beef plate to go. When I got home I discovered it was almost all fat and no meat. They cover it in gravy so you can't see it.

Cracker Barrel is usually good. Today it was mediocre at best. Burnt Mac and cheese, pasty grits, dried out meatloaf with gristle? Burnt biscuits plus it took a while to get the food.

Casual dining - some people were dressed up - I wasn't, but I didn't feel out of place. The Tenderloin meal was recommended, and I'm glad it was. Cooked perfectly. The portion was more than I needed, but I didn't leave hungry. The bill was a bit high, but the experience was great. I'm ok for paying a bit more for this quality. I will probably return when I'm in the area. I recommend this restaurant for an occasional great meal for a very special time. I've experienced many "high-end" restaurants- this one is in a league of its own. It is by far the very best in Kentucky.. There are other great restaurants with great food and nice atmospheres that I enjoy, but this one is special.

The entire restaurant is decorated with art and crafts devised by students who work at Berea College. For lunch, I had a delicious catfish Po Boy sandwich with broccoli raisin slaw. Dessert was warm bread pudding with Kentucky bourbon sauce. Each meal is accompanied by an individual serving of the Tavern's famous warm spoon bread (a kind of corn meal soufflé) with butter. Dinner was light (still full from lunch). Kale sausage soup, hot deviled eggs and, of course more spoon bread. All washed down with filtered water and southern sweet tea. Servers were attentive and helpful. There is a full bar and an amazing offering of fine Kentucky Bourbons. Boone Tavern is pet friendly and located on campus. Shopping and campus locations are walkable. Parking is free and conveniently located. Guests may work out at the college gym, stroll campus, or drive a short distance to hike in the Berea College forest (Pinnacles). Rooms are well appointed and furnished with furniture made by students. Highly recommend Boone Tavern Hotel and restaurant for a little getaway.

My mother got a breakfast croissant and I got the lunch special (pork tenderloin, roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes). My mother loved the sandwich except it came with too much bacon - if there is such a thing! The pork tenderloin special was perfect for me! It tasted like a homemade meal. I would order it again. I give this place only four stars because there was not a great selection in drinks (cream soda, root beer, al8, or water) and the coffee was terrible! The sweet lady at the register even made us a fresh pot but neither me nor my mother could drink it. I do recommend this place overall. I will go there again, especially because the desserts displayed at their counter looked AMAZING. I must try some of their cupcakes and their cinnamon bun! They always answer our questions about what ingredients are their items ( mom of two picky kids, I know I'm annoying) We love the croissant breakfast sandwiches, red velvet cream cheese brownies, and cinnamon rolls. Today we ventured out and tried the egg muffins. They're super tasty and loaded with onions, peppers, tomatoes, cheese, and ham. They come served with a side of salsa. Really the perfect low carb breakfast. We haven't made it for a lunch special since we work out of town, but that's on our list of to do's! My mouth waters just seeing pictures of their specials.
