Made an appointment with Ed on the phone earlier this week and when we got there he was ready to work! I had quite a complicated job of swapping exhausts from two different vehicles but Ed and his team was able to give me both lifts and get it done in not much more than one hour! He even gave me a discount from the phone appraisal because everything went smoothly and quickly. That just shows how honest they are with their work! Thought my Mazda's exhaust system needed attention, so, once again, turned to Yelp to find a shop. Came across Bergen Brakes & Mufflers and was very impressed with the reviews. Made an appointment with Ed, the Owner, and brought in the Mazda Tribute. Once on the lift, Ed's mechanic found that a loose heat shield over the main catalytic converter was the cause of the rattling. I was then informed that the shield was not needed since it appeared to have been placed there when I had the main Cat replaced. I was quite pleased with the honesty and integrity of the shop right away. (I was shown the piece of metal before it was discarded and there was no charge.) While on the lift, Ed inspected the vehicle and found that the front vertical stabilizer links were worn. I was given a written estimate and agreed to have the work done. Once scheduled, Ed had two new front (Moog) links installed early in the morning while I waited. The work was performed in a reasonable time frame for a fair price with the old parts returned to me. With this being my first experience with Bergen Brakes, I would not hesitate to look to Bergen Brakes for other related repair work. Thanks to Ed, Richard and the other mechanics who worked on my Mazda, all of the underbody noise is now gone and my car rides like new again! read more

Had an exhaust issue, Rich nailed the diagnosis before they even got it up in the air. He explained the issue clearly then gave me an honest and ultimately pretty accurate estimate on how much it would cost (very reasonable) and how long it would take based on their current workload. He even picked up on an error made by my previous mechanic's brake job and advised me to go back and get it looked at again before it caused any issues. The crew at Bergen Brake are exceptionally professional. I feel I've found the only honest repair shop in New Jersey. They recently took great care of my 2011 Ford Fusion when it developed a small evap leak and quickly took my car for repair on a busy week for them. They have also done the brakes on this vehicle when another shop did brakes that never seemed right. When they took the brakes off they described the parts as having never seen the brand before. Honestly they'll have my business if my car needs any type of repair and I'm betting will keep me in this vehicle for many more years. I've driven past this place for years and never gave it much thought until I had a sudden problem with my very old, very high mileage car. I do most of my own maintenance, I've had a lot of bad experiences with a lot of mechanics, so for bigger repairs that I can't handle I still go to the one and only repair shop I've ever fully trusted in my old neighborhood, pretty far away--but between getting rides and/or tows all the way out there, leaving it for days, getting rides back, it was getting too ridiculous. I said there's gotta be someone nearby who is trustworthy and honest and something of a specialist too (because I needed one). Thanks to this era of substantial online reviews it's possible to figure that out on your own and once again the internet didn't fail me. These guys were so nice both on the phone and in person, dropped what they were doing to check out my car, they told me exactly what they could do to solve my particular problem and exactly when they could do it. They gave me a rough estimate of the total that was way less than I guessed it would be and when the final bill was printed off it was way less than that! This is the only place I will go to get work done on my car! I referred so many people to this place and not one person has had a complaint! These guys are the most honest and reliable people you could imagine. In fact, I actually referred someone who thought they needed their front brakes done because their car dealer recommended it. After dropping their car off at Bergen Brakes, they were notified that the brakes did not need to be done and that there were enough padding left on the pads to last months and that the rotors were in good shape. You don't get much more honest than that, especially in the auto repair service, industry. The person dropping the car off was a female too.
