I emailed for a status update but initially received no reply. In less than 24 hours I received outreach DIRECTLY FROM THE COMPANY PRESIDENT, Mr. Brad Berger. When is the last time the president of a 74-year-old family business in the USA called you or emailed you? This was my first time. Terrible customer service. I went in to purchase a Canon PowerShot compact camera after seeing a package deal on their website for $599.99. I didn't want the extended warranty for $80, but they told me I had no choice--it was required. Then they handed me a bill for $640.00. When I asked them to honor the lower price listed on their own website, they refused. This is just wrong, and I won't shop here again. I made a few calls and found a store nearby called Camera Land. They're selling me the same camera on its own for $329.99--no forced bundles or extras I don't need. I'm happy to give them my business instead. read more

After a month of consideration, I decided to finally purchase my first new camera in awhile: the OM Systems OM-3. If you've been on the fence about it like I was, I can tell you it's exceeded expectations. There's no better choice if you want a compact camera in 2025 (especially if you want a camera with the most advanced technology currently available). Having owned a PEN F since 2016, I was delighted to discover the OM-3 is only a slight bit larger and that it feels like it's got the same "DNA." If you've read any complaints about the lack of grip I can tell you that it hasn't bothered me (and I do have big hands), but I am partial to prime lenses so if you're partial to zooms you may want to go with the OM1ii. As far as Berger Bros is concerned, I was delighted with the experience at the store. It was a big purchase for me and I was so glad I opted for an in-person visit. They know their business well (included the advanced electronics in cameras like the OM 3). No one's in a hurry to wrap up sales and my conversation was most informative -- a pleasure. Berger Bros Cameras, my new spot where I'll be going for gear after my rough experience at Cameraland with one of the managers who really was crazy rude and just a not likable person. Berger Bros has a wide collection of gear, and is one of the handful of Family Owned Camera shops left on the island. You don't see many lasting over B and H, but these guys were great. I recently traded in one of my cameras, after working with the staff for a few hours, we got a rate down that was alright, not the best but, I agreed to it because there was a rig I was looking for, and I met Brad (owner) about the rig. He called his Canon guy and put in an order for the kit I was looking for and got it sent out, this was just in time too because Canon is now saying there is such a demand that they can't even make these fast enough, but Brad got me a kit. Prices here can range, some are a little higher than others, and the guys can kind of bust your chops a bit, but you have to have that sense of humor and personality. They offer classes, great conversation and insight, let you try lenses to test them out. I look forward to getting more of my gear in the future with Brad and his team. read more

I had a great experience with Berger Bros, specifically with Doug's help since *March*, as he put me on the waitlist for the elusive Fujifilm X100VI. A couple of weeks ago, I finally got the text I'd been waiting for that the camera was ready for pickup, and I was there within the hour! My husband and I had tried to get this camera through Best Buy chat, as others had gotten lucky that way, but we were unsuccessful in our attempts, wasted a lot of time, and eventually gave up. Thanks to Doug, I now have this camera in my hands! When I arrived, he opened the box in front of me to ensure I was the first to take it out and that everything looked okay. Purchasing two accessories was required, so I chose a screen protector and UV filter, both of which I needed anyway. I have used this store for decades. They looked in their computer and found me as far back as 2000 when I bought a telescope. This week, I decided it was time to upgrade my Canon camera body. Rich, a gentleman roughly from my generation, walked me through the ins and outs of the 90D that I had picked out. They helped me select the accessories that would help make this a powerful tool (Memory cards, adapters and camera bag). The next day we took the new camera to several parks on the South Shore and were blown away with the results. At the end of the trip though, we found that we had strung the strap wrong, so I had to make a return trip. Mark showed his expertise in strap management (Apparently this happens serially). While there, I learned that they do their own slide scans, so I will be seeing them very soon. I've become leery of services that send the slides overseas. I was looking for a new Sony lens that was so popular all the big box stores had sold out of them. Admittedly they were not my first stop when looking for gear but because they were smaller they had options the other stores had sold out of. When I called a very friendly worker was super helpful and put the lens I wanted on hold for me and kept it till I could come in the next day. On top of the great personal service they prices are spot on too. Their price was only 1$ more than the cheapest online retailer. I'm so impressed by Brad and the team at Berger Bros. There were some items for which I was searching that have been very difficult to source, due to high demand, at some of the larger camera retailers. On the recommendation of several users of a camera enthusiast forum I decided to give Berger Bros a call, and I'm so glad that I did. Not only did they have both lenses in stock that I was looking for, but they had a much shorter wait list for the camera body. Brad was super helpful as he inquired what kind of gear I was currently using, offered to trade them in for credit (I declined, but it's great to know this is an option), and made accessory suggestions that I had overlooked, but really did need. When I needed to make a change to my order before shipping, they did so with no problems at all. And Brad personally packaged and shipped my lenses to me (I'm out of state). This kind of personal service is almost nonexistent online and by phone. I cannot recommend Berger Bros highly enough. I like this place. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I recently purchased a new lens for my Nikon (a prime f/1.8 35mm) and paid the going rate for it. They will give you their website price which is cheaper that their store price most of the time. And I always see coupons floating around in the coupon books that get delivered to your home. Mine was expired and unable to be used on what I purchased, but the owner told me to hold onto it and that he'd let me use it next time I'm in the store. I also picked up a roll of Ilford 400 to process (I do darkroom stuff too) while at school, and it was $6.29 a roll. Recently I was at CVS and saw they have black and white film too, Kodak's T-Max 400 and it's $10 a roll. What?!? Crazy. So if you do darkroom processes or are into b&w film, the prices here are reasonable. Truth be told, I did buy my filters online at Amazon. Hey, I'm a starving artist, I've gotta shop around. Now looking into a decent quality tripod. A Vanguard would be nice, but I don't know if they're worth the high price tag. read more

I bought the Nikon D3300 package deal for $599.99. The tax ended up being $86.24. I thought that was ridiculous. I went to Target and Best Buy today and both stores had the same package for $599.99, but those stores charged $51.75 tax. I emailed the owner about my disappointment regarding the ridiculous tax. On the phone he said I was wrong and should exchange it for a cheaper camera if it was not in my budget. He mentioned that the original price of the camera's tax was applied and that it was legal. Then he listed why his store was great and how long he was in business for. After that, I probably spent more on gas money traveling back and forth to the store, which is inconvenient and I feel like I should be reimbursed for that. Overall I am happy that I received a full refund for the camera. I give them one star for that. I feel bitter about that experience. I have photos of the receipts for Berger Bros and Best Buy, and the difference is amazing. Once the owner learned that I received a full refund he offered me a class for free. I cannot accept that. I don't want him to think it is ok to charge customers that much tax. I am very sad that I had to go to a chain store for my camera. I would have liked to support a small business. read more

I was on several lists 60+ down for the elusive Canon 1DX Mkiii. Amazon was sold out. B&H was sold out. CANON WAS SOLD OUT! I couldn't find it anywhere as I checked daily on stock alerts and forums with seas of people with the same problem, NO 1DX MKiii's... Some said shipping from Canon would be 2-3 months. Then at the bottom of a forum, there was one small inkling of help for an unknown hero- "I was in Berger Bros Camera in New York today, they had one. But I decided to wait on the R5." I too plan on getting that camera as well, but this was my current goal. I called the camera shop 20 min after that post went live. A friendly man answered the phone, Brad. The owner. He was friendly, casual but professional and surprisingly gave me his undivided attention like I was his only customer. "We got one." He had one of the most elusive cameras in market currently and he was about to sell it to me. I was more than stoked. He temporarily held it for me to cancel my other pre-order which was tying up funds. He gave me shipping options, we landed on 3 day shipping for $100 (arriving from NY to LA shipping Wednesday supposedly arriving on Monday). It showed up Thursday, the next day. Overall, I couldn't say enough wonderful things about my experience with Berger Bros. Brad even emailed me 11pm his time with the tracking information. A++. I walked into Berger Bros with my 600mmF4 lens to discuss a consignment, not a trade in, arrangement. Brad, the owner was willing to do a deal on the spot, but I indicated a trade would better fit my needs. He had the lens in stock that I was considering. I was absolutely fine with taking the lens, but from experience, I knew that there aren't a lot of people looking to buy such a special purpose lens like this, so I declined the offer, and said I would be most comfortable if he were to conduct the trade AFTER he had money in hand from the sale of my lens. It took a while, which I expected, but he was absolutely true to his word. I got an email that the lens had sold and I could pick up the lens I was interested in at any time. But in the interim, I moved to a different state, about 5 hours away. Just to show you what a great business Berger Bros Camera is, Brad had the lens shipped to me, insured, and at no charge. They dealt with me in the most professional way, and were a pleasure to work with. I would have no hesitation using them again. I prefer to work with and support smaller local camera shops. I could have gone to the camera megastores but found that dealing personally, especially with the owner, is a rarity these days. I went with a reasonable level of expectation and was more than satisfied with the outcome. Being Hispanic, I never once felt uncomfortable or as one reviewer puts it "profiled". I purchased a used lens from Berger Brothers online, sight unseen. That can be a scary thing to do; to send several hundred dollars to a stranger across country (I live in the San Francisco Bay Area) to purchase a fragile lens that could have many things damaged within...all those pieces of glass..all those focusing mechanisms that need to work perfectly... However, the fact that it is a family business that has been there for decades...you can't stay in business if you don't take good care of your customers, so I took a chance. It is getting so hard to find a real camera store, even in the SF Bay Area, many of them have closed, and it is so important to seek buying advice from professionals who really care about making sure a fellow photographer gets the proper gear. I spoke with Brad on the phone and I was charmed by his warmth and his knowledge about my chosen brand of camera; Olympus. I felt I had not only made a good choice, but also a friend, if I ever found myself in Long Island! The lens was mailed the same day I purchased it, and it arrived yesterday. It was packed carefully and consciously and came with all the original paperwork and box. It exceeded the level of "newness" I had hoped for, it looks and shoots like a brand new lens. I wish I could just fly across the country and give these folks a big hug, I really do. If I'm ever in Long Island I'm going to go find these guys and thank them in person. I am so glad I found this place. I looked up other reviews on some camera sites that I trust and Berger Bros came up a few times. I flirted with buying the Leica Q2 M on their website but quit the transaction before I finished. The next morning, I got an email from Brad asking if I was still interested and telling me that he also had the regular Q2 in stock - which was impossible to get anywhere else. He also told me that I was better off getting the regular Q2 than the Monochrome. I followed his advice and boy am I glad I did. Dealing with Brad was so easy - we had a couple of phone calls back and forth to close the transaction - it was so nice and reassuring to be dealing with an actual human being. This is a regular brick and mortar camera store, and it shows in the service. After knowing they are good reputation I went there with an old film to be changed over to a cd, I wasn't sure what was on the film, but it was an old wedding they gave it back to me with a song playing during the video I did not ask them to put this song in I do not want a song in there and they ruined it for me I paid over $100 and I was really pissed and I still am now I have to go somewhere else Why would they take it upon themselves to pick out a song and add it to my film why would they do that and who chose the salon I would morning song playing during my wedding video at the time and I don't want it now they should have called me and asked me if that's what I wanted and it took nearly a month to come back I'm done with Berger brothers read more
