This is an extremely well curated store. In this day and age if you're doing anything but shopping online, there's a purpose. Maybe it's because you were close to it, or maybe because they had an item you couldn't wait two days for. But, when the store is out of the way, and difficult to get to, there needs to be more of a draw to pay the mark ups. And there are mark ups. About 20% more expensive than other places, and more than that if comparing online. But, the curation of the collection is what makes this place stand out. If you're looking for interesting gifts, or novelty items, there are a lot to be found here for all occasions, and you won't have to wade through a bunch of things that don't suit your needs. Everything is pretty great, and you will see things you didn't even know you wanted because you couldn't even imagine they were things to want. It's a lovely location, and worth the visit just to see what's in stock, if nothing else. read more

Sure they have a good selection however I only got half my order, and charged for my entire order. The shipping was $25. I got my order on Christmas Eve so I couldn't even get a replacement gift. Customer service was quite rude too. read more

This is a really neat store in the Distillery District. It's hard to put your finger on what the theme of the store is. I kind of want to say everything. There are a lot of utility items for kitchen and home but with a spin on things - some are quirky and some are imported items with their country of origin proudly displayed. That's also pretty much how the store is split - the main area when you first walk in from the alley is the more serious side of things with some items displayed in glass cases. The other side has the more colourful side of things. If you know of the Kikkerland brand, they have a lot of gadgets that can help out with day to day. Some you might have seen are the hedgehog shaped dryer balls, tea infusers that include a floatie and a seal, and USB powered fans. They have sooo much more though! A wooden key chain Swiss army knife, eco-friendly zip top bags (hippo shaped!), cat but magnets...a LOT! They also had a nice Canada section with aptly themed cutting boards, Christmas ornaments of the Toronto raccoons, and cute doormats sporting the nation's animals. There are some board games and books as well at this store. It's really a lot to browse through and one of the more interesting stores in the area. read more

I've been coming to this store for many years. All the seasonal staff they hire are really friendly, helpful, and greet you with a smile when they see you. The last time I was there was 3 years ago when I had to report a person using a section of the store to do a religious prayer and blocking customers from walking into that area. The lady I reported it to called someone on her walkie talkie to look into it and said thank you and walked away. I thought it was kind rude how she didn't show any appreciation towards me for reporting this to them. I am pretty sure this person was a manager. Not that I was expecting anything from them. Not even a smile or sign of appreciation. Fast forward to this month when I moved back to Toronto. I made a trip there to look for a birthday gift for my daughter. It was a weekday morning so it was not very busy. I had some questions about a product which I had to ask someone at the front checkout as there was nobody on the back floor to ask. That same lady from 3 years ago was at the checkout along with a co-worker. The co-worker was very helpful and friendly in answering all my questions. That same lady did not even smile and seemed really annoyed that I gone all the way up there to ask them. Did not even turn to face me. I wish had never brought the item but due to the timing of my daughter's birthday I had to. There seems to be a big disconnect with the level of customer service being provided by your staff. After these 2 incidents that are clearly no fault of my own I have made a decision to never visit this store ever again when I come to the Christmas market and will mention these 2 incidents to all my family and friends. read more

I came to Bergo designs while in Toronto. Located somewhat in the heart of the Distillery District, it was a great place for me to stop after having a nice hearty lunch down the street. I would say it's a typical gift shop, but it's kind of one of those gift shops you'd stop in for the person who either has it all or you have no idea what to buy them. I mean guys, it literally has everything from things to enhance your liquor cabinent to paper and pens. Things were typically expensive, but if you need a gift for someone and are in a pinch, you'll buy it, right? Again, this place is huge. Two rooms or storefronts of stuff. I loved the stationery section which at the time was new. Customer service was great. Tons of items to look at whether you need that piece of jewerly or coffee mug is another thing, but there is definitely a lot of stuff for you to potentially spend all of your CAD on. read more

It's always fun walking up and down the aisles in this store. They've got unique items that I don't see anywhere else. The prices are on the higher side so beware if you decide to make any purchases. Such a great store for the person who has everything! There is pretty much everything under the sun in here - home decor items, kitchen items/gadgets, jewelry, watches, toys, and the best unique/funniest gadgets/toys (both for kids and adults) here. It's a pretty big store that has a 2 level (a step up level) filled with even more items. You can seriously knock everyone off your Christmas list here. It is a bit pricey but that comes with shopping in the Distillery District. But for a gift you most likely can't get anywhere else it may just be worth it. read more

I love this store so much. It's my "go to" place to find an amazing gift. The design is absolutely beautiful and they have such a fun selection of greeting cards to go along with that gift. Whenever I give a gift to someone from Bergo Designs, they flip out. I've probably bought people gifts from Bergo over 20 times and every single time, it goes over huge. I can't tell you how much I recommend this store. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Check them out. I'm embarrassed it's taken me this long to write this review. My husband and I visited the Distillery District during a brief weekend trip to Toronto. We're suckers for yuppie traps, and a beautiful, tiny, brick-paved district built around a historic distillery is about as honey sweet as they get. Bergo Designs was the trap within the trap, a huge, attractive store loaded with expensive, whimsical gifts, gear, and gadgets. We dropped in for a thorough browse. The shop was spacious and clean and very well organized, with the pleasing feel of a museum store. Lots of design-driven housewares, colorful and shiny and more or less practical. Neat jewelry and stationery. Clocks and watches and pens. Everything seemed kind of precious, much of it both useful and patently unnecessary. A great place to buy a gift, in other words. A lot of the stuff was locked in glass cabinets, set up in easily browsable aisles. My husband and I are basset hound maniacs, and we're always on the lookout for basset hound paraphernalia to add to our enormous collection. I spotted a wooden dog figurine with suspiciously floppy leather ears, and got help taking it out so I could examine it closely. It was over $100, designed by a Danish architect, and we decided it was as likely to be a bloodhound as it was a basset. Either way, it was both quite steep and quite ridiculously adorable. We didn't buy anything at Bergo Designs, but it was a really fun place to look around. It'd be easy to spend a lot of money here in the right mood, and under the right circumstances. If the legs on Oscar the Dog had been a touch shorter, I'd be out over $100. read more

My wife and I received a gift card for this store at our wedding. Once we entered we could see why. There was so much that was up our alley that is offered at this store and I found it really impressive at the amount of different and unique things that they bring to the table. There is a ton of gift ware that is off the beaten path that for the right person will put a big smile on their face. This is definitely a place I'd go for holiday shopping. The price tags here are a bit high but for the right gift it can be worth it because I can't think of where to get the offering at this store anywhere else other than online. I got a bit miffed when checking out because the gift card wasn't scanning through and a manager needed to be there in order to put it through in the end. They were apologetic profusely through the entire process and I maintained that my wife and I understood their challenges and that all I wanted to know was how long it would be. Eventually we got it to work and we completed our purchase. As a form of gratitude for our patience (unprompted) we were given tickets to the Christmas Market in December. I was really touched by this and it was really unexpected. I can't endorse their business practices any more than I already have. I can confidently say that overall I had a great experience here and I can't wait to shop here again if I'm ever in the area. read more

Gorgeous store, with an expensive price tag! I saw some really cute candle holders in the display window that caught my eye and made me wind up in this store. The store is very pretentious, and coming here left a bad taste in my mouth. I was the chosen one that was being followed around and eyed by one of the female staff members. My hubby pointed it out as well, but I thought nothing of it as I was doing nothing wrong. There was a good fifteen other people in the store, browsing and having a great time as well. As I got to the second level I wanted to check out some more of their items and the same female staff worker stood in my way and said "we are closing!"...As I was not aware of their hours of operation, I was surprised because there were so many people shopping around the second level, and said "Oh, you are, I was not aware of that!"...Staff member replies "YUP, at 8:00!"...and then she looks down at her watch. I get the point..I smiled and said "OK!" and made my way out as I felt her eyes glued to me while I walked away. The hubby and I kind of snickered, like what the hell just happened there. Great store with lots of unique and interesting items not found in many places. A keen eye toward the intersection of design and function and an enjoyable browsing experience. A little improvement needed in the layout as aisles are too cramped and the cash desk becomes crowded and unapproachable as there is merchandise surrounding this area. Lastly, when I purchased items for Christmas and asked if they had gift wrapping, the attendant said yes, but that they were really busy. I understand, but other options should have been presented (waiting, return later), but none were offered. Still a great store, and I will return. But some room for improvement. read more

This place is great. I love coming here every time I make it to the distillery district. They have toys, kitchen items and carry design award winning items that can improve your life (or at least make it look like it is better). The prices are a little higher than the same elsewhere but it is worth it for their selection. You literally could spend hours in here seeing things like fancy teapots, Donald trump toilet paper, alarm clocks that you have to chase, and doggo advent calendars, to name a few. This time out we bought some Christmas presents for kids. One of the gifts was a set of crayons that look like rocks! This place is a must stop for me and I actually look forward to walking through the front doors. This place is like a unique gift shop for the most part. They have things that you would never guess even existed or that you needed but there it is. Things like wine charms & glassware to funny cards that will have you in stitches. It's basically fun to explore all the various chotchkes that they have here because you never know when you might want something that you may use only a few times. It's not cheap either so stay focused or you could easily drop $100 on a few things. I guess it goes w/ the territory of the Distillery District which is a gem in itself. So yeah, peruse all the fun things in the store, just be careful not to go overboard, unless you want to. read more
