I took my dog in last night with a high temperature. When the vet called me to give me an update later in the evening, she told me that another dog escaped its room, let itself into my dog's room, and attacked her, puncturing her shoulder. When picking her up today, I paid over the phone from the parking lot but it took multiple calls and 45 minutes for them to bring her to me. My bill had some deductions for medication for the bite, but also a double charge for another medication given because of the bite. I asked the tech present to have the manager call me. She didn't call until we went to the front door and requested again to hear from her. She spoke with my partner first and immediately went on the defensive, claiming they had made things right. She blamed COVID for them failing to supervise their patients, instead of taking responsibility. Then I got on the phone and walked through the overcharges with her which she first disputed, then acknowledged. When I expressed my displeasure with the whole experience she continued to be defensive and then told me that given my attitude I didn't need to be a client anymore and that she would note it in the file. I have taken 2 dogs to the clinic for 4 years for vet care, boarding, and emergencies, and that is the treatment I received after being handed a $1400 bill and an injured dog. By the time I got home they sent me an email simply saying "Please see attached" where they reversed the $210 overcharge. Not once did the manager or anyone who talked to us when we picked up her apologize for letting my dog be harmed or express any concern. The emergency vet was the only one who expressed remorse. After this I would not trust them with my animals. Hopefully my dog doesn't develop defensive or aggressive behaviors from this experience. After some research on the Secretary of State and Alameda County Fictitious Business directory, I discovered that the clinic was purchased by PetVet Care Centers, a national chain. In my opinion, that is likely why the level of care and ownership of their charges and care has changed. read more

My go-to vet. Their 24-hour emergency service is fantastic - professional, caring, thorough, highly competent, always striving to provide the best care. They have ultrasound, x-ray, cat scan, and a lab for quick diagnostics. The vets are superb. I've probably seen over ten DVM's there over the years, especially during emergency visits, and I felt impressed by them all. Dr. McBride, my primary care vet, was also my favorite, one who got to know my cats and served them with devotion and compassion. Over fourteen years of visits, I have always been satisfied with Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital. Besides emergency service, the hospital offers convenient, regularly scheduled appointments 7 days a week. There are also kittens for adoption seasonally, usually two or three siblings. This place has gone way downhill since Dr. Benjamin and his daughter (also Dr. Benjamin) left. They have a list of the vets who work there posted in front. The names all keep changing with regularity, so apparently Berkeley Dog and Cat is not a peasant place to work either. Many of their specialists have moved on. They no longer offer twenty-four-hour service. This used to be such a great place under Dr. Benjamin; so sad. read more

After spending $700 for vaccines for my two dogs, Berkeley Dog and Cat will not forward their prescriptions for flea/tick meds to be filled. The online supplier tried calling them as did I several times. You are responsible for mailing in your prescription. I assume this is to encourage getting all prescriptions directly through them which is MUCH more expensive. Also, my dogs have gotten several tics while I'm waiting for the prescription to be delivered by snail mail. All because they refuse to reply to the supplier. I emailed the hospital directly a week ago letting them know the information below and have not heard back. I can only hope for a change in protocol and for you to advocate for your animal if you are in this situation. I wish I had known. We brought our dog in 8/15 for lameness in the leg. An X-ray was not offered. We were told it was suspected ACL tear, get it fixed in 3 months or he will get bad arthritis, and sent home with meds. We got into another Vet within 2 weeks - as busy as here - and they immediately did an X-ray and saw his leg was BROKEN and had suspected Osteosarcoma. Biopsy confirmed this. I'm not sure why an X-ray was not done that day at Berkeley Dog and Cat. If we had decided not to operate or waited longer to get a surgery consult we would never have been able to forgive ourselves. read more

Absolutely wonderful! I am so thankful to the staff and doctors at Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital for saving my little baby! I don't have a dog or cat actually, but a sweet social crazy cockatiel! She is super friendly and loves to fly, but accidentally broke a blood feather. She was bleeding like crazy! If you're familiar with birds, they are little bleeders and it's hard to stop the bleeding, plus with them being so little, blood loss and result in death. I tried everything to get bleeding to stop while I called 8 different places. I learned it's really hard to find an exotic animal vet/avian vet anywhere! My usual avian vet was closed and the places referred on their phone line said they don't see birds. I was referred from place to place to place to place and almost in tears worried about my cockatiel bleeding out, when finally I was referred to Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital. They told me to come in immediately and they would help her. I rushed over and they took her in immediately. They were extremely friendly, and are covid safe. You park in numbered stalls and communicate with staff by phone and then when someone comes to take your animal and bring them back. They fixed her and gave her medicine and were very reasonably priced. I was ready for a hefty ER charge due to a couple experiences at other places in the past with prior birds. However, I was shocked. They didn't overcharge me or take advantage and try to charge me for extra things I didn't need. They took amazing care of her and she was back to her old self the second we got her back! If you have any avian or exotic animal needs, definitely come here. Hopefully I will never need an urgent care or emergency vet again, but I am glad they are here just in case!! I will definitely try to make an appointment here in the future for any wellness exam for my cockatiel too! read more

I took the family Ball Python, "Jake the Snake," in to see Dr. Harkewicz. He is a kind and patient man who is a vat of knowledge and experience. My dog was attacked and bit by two dogs this weekend and we brought her here to get treated. They were so caring with her and did such an amazing job. We even got her home the same night. The staff was so informative on the at home care she would be needing and it made me feel confident on being able to take care of her myself. Horrible service. Waited almost 7hrs to get my dog checked out. No updates, no recognizing we spent all day here, nothing. I don't mind waiting but at least have the courtesy to let me know how things are going. So far I am extremely pleased with everything this hospital has done for my puppy. Although he was vaccinated with 3 rounds of parvo vaccines, he was diagnosed with parvo on Saturday Oct. 19th by his regular vet. On Sunday he took a turn for the worse and I called the emergency clinic which advised me to bring him in. I brought him in they put me in a room immediately, to protect the other pets, and starting checking him fairly quickly. They gave me 2 estimates and explained that his treatment could go one of 2 ways. They started with the least expensive. I was also able to apply for care credit there, given his treatment was going to be expensive. The next day I was surprised with a phone call in the morning giving me an update of my puppy. They also called in the evening. My puppy ended up staying there for 5 days. Yes it was expensive, but I would do anything for him. They called me everyday, twice a day which I really appreciated and kept me up to date with cost so I knew exactly how much I was spending. Lucky for me the vaccine company paid a little over half of his cost. Overall i am pretty satisfied with this hospital from the doctors to customer service. No complaints here! read more

I'm sad to write this review as we have been going here for 3 years now and from 2017 through 2019, they provided compassionate care. In particular, their ER vets have all been excellent and we were regulars of Drs. Minturn and Isaacson. However, since COVID19, this place has fallen apart and it is clear from the recent reviews that we are not the only ones experiencing issues. As with most negative reviews, this one is going to be long so if you don't want to read the whole thing here's the tl;dr - The front office is disorganized/overwhelmed/overworked and your experience will be hit or miss. - WE DO NOT RECOMMEND DR. HOLLIDAY. By her own admission, she was unable to conduct a basic examination on our 14.5lb cat, when no other vet at Berkeley Dog & Cat has had an issue in the past. One of our cats was experiencing a skin issue in August and we called to make an appointment. The earliest appointment was not until early September, when we were given several slots to choose from. I called back about five minutes later to ask if I could book an appointment for my other cat as well since he has asthma and was overdue for his annual exam. I spoke to a different person who told me the earliest appointment was not until October. I asked how could this be true when just five minutes ago, there were multiple slots open in early September. I was then told that there were slots available only to animals that were sick. The person I spoke with tried very hard to dissuade me from booking any appointment at all; however, I pointed out that my cat had asthma, which was flaring up, and needed his annual exam and the office begrudgingly agreed to an appointment in late September. In September, I tried to refill my asthmatic cat's prescription inhaler through their online order system. My order was declined BECAUSE I WAS OVERDUE FOR MY ANNUAL EXAM. It would have been funny except my cat's inhaler was running low and his asthma was still flaring up. I called the front office and was directed to call the pharm tech. You can't actually reach a person at the pharm tech, only leave a voicemail. I left a voicemail and did not hear back the next day even though I called before the deadline for orders. I called the office again and was directed again to reach out to the pharm tech voicemail again. The next day, I received an email that my prescription was now approved, no note or explanation. However, then I received an email from the online pharmacy saying they were out of inhalers. The morning of our appointment yesterday at 9:00am, my husband drove to the office and attempted to check in. Due to COVID19, you cannot enter the office and check in from your car. However, the text check-in system did not recognize his phone number and would not let him check in. He tried to call and the lines were busy and no one picked up. He texted me at 9:11 and asked me to use my phone to check him in via text. I did so and receive confirmation. However, my husband was unable to reach anyone until 9:20. Then he was told that because WE we were late in checking in, the appointment would have to be rescheduled for several weeks later. My husband pushed back and we got an appointment for next day at 1:50pm, take it or leave it. I received a confusing text about the vet recommending we use gabapentin before our visit (which we never have before). Today, I call the office in the morning to confirm that 1) my husband will be able to check in and 2) we don't have any gabapentin on us and it's okay to bring our cat in without meds. The front office was nice and confirmed yes, my husband will be able to check in and it's okay to not use gabapentin. My husband brought our cat for his appointment and was still unable to check in with his phone. Thankfully he was able to reach their office line this time. However, Dr. Holliday stated she was unable to complete her exam because our cat was "combative" and all she could do was weigh him. So my husband took off work for two straight days so we could pay 59 dollars to get our cat weighed? Because Dr. Holliday was unable to complete our cat's annual exam, we were told that we would only be eligible for 1 inhaler (instead of a year's worth of refills) and we would need to use gabapentin and then bring our cat in for another exam before she would authorize more refills. They also did not have any inhalers on site so we left with a paper script and no actual inhaler. And no instructions on where or how to fill the paper script. Our cat does hiss and have anxiety at the vet but previous vets were still able to conduct the annual exam with no issue and as one vets described it, "He's all bark and no bite". Since we weren't in the room, we can't factually assess whether Dr. Holliday actually tried in earnest to conduct her exam but based on the results, we cannot recommend her as she does not seem comfortable examining cats. And my cat still does not have an inhaler so we will need to find another vet soon. read more

They are so nice here. It's been really hard to see a vet these days since the pandemic started, I guess everyone adopted a dog and now they are all swamped. When I arrived they were all so kind and helpful. Everything was very streamline considering we all have to wait in our cars while our pets are being seen. I didn't have to wait too longer and my doggy came back at happy as a clam. Dr. Jessica Holliday is also top notch. We used to see her when she was in San Francisco and have now followed her here. I highly recommend her! I also really like that they are also a 24 hour ER, it's really the beta of both worlds. read more

I have good memories of the many kind, excellent and dedicated professionals at the Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital, including the vet techs and front desk staff. With the exception of one visit, the care was always exceptional. But during the pandemic things deteriorated; although it was not the hospital's fault, it was hard to get an appointment and if I did, I would have to wait outside for hours in a tented area before someone could see my dog. I would also get reminder emails about his vaccinations telling me to come in right away, but due to the dog and cat's hospital's shortage of providers and appointment times, we sometimes had to travel to other cities for appointments or sit all day outside a vet clinic in Oakland to get a vaccination or a foot infection treated. Today (August 5) I called to make an appointment to catch up our dog on more overdue vaccinations before we left on vacation and was told that I could only get ONE of the needed vaccations (!); otherwise I had to make a well visit check in order to get the overdue shots and that checkup would not be available until the end of August. I was also told that the last time I saw a doctor there was in 2019, which is not true; I waited outside their office for hours after making appointments during the pandemic years and apparently my records were not kept up to date. The person at the front desk was entirely unhelpful and seemed to be implying she could not help me because I had not had regular checkups for my dog, which I had had done at other clinics due to unavailability at theirs. I am so disappointed in the service that I am not planning to go back. read more

I took my fairly young, recently adopted shelter cat here mid-pandemic. I had called many vets and went with the one who could see her the soonest. At that time, BD&C was not allowing owners in the building. They examined my cat, and then I spoke to the vet via cellphone from the parking lot. The shelter had told me to be sure to have her new, permanent vet keep an eye on her oral health, as she had some gingivitis and plaque. This was noted in her chart from the shelter. The BD&C vet had her chart, and I specifically asked him about her gums and teeth; he said they were fine, nothing to worry about. Within the year, she ended up having nine teeth extracted (at a different veterinary hospital). And yes, this was traumatic and expensive. I reported this to BD&C. They said they could not address my concerns unless they had all of her records, from both before and after they saw her. So, they got all of her records, but I did not hear from them. I finally called and ended up speaking to the manager. She told me she was a vet tech, but it was like talking to a politician. She either couldn't or wouldn't evaluate the three sets of charts. She was not even familiar with the standard veterinary oral health rating system. She just kept defending the vet and the hospital and saying things like, well all pets have some degree of gum disease and tooth decay. What???? I do not believe for one moment that my cat was given a thorough exam. I do not believe that her teeth and gums were "fine" when BD&G examined her. It takes more than a few months to go from "fine" to requiring immediate, extensive oral surgery. I would not take my pet back to BD&C, nor would I recommend them to anyone else. read more

I'm so grateful for Dr.Luehman caring for my leopard gecko and removing an abscess from her head Dr. Luehman was very knowledgeable and despite being so busy with more dire pet emergencies was very kind and took good care of my gecko. I've never taken her to any other vet because she's never had any other health problems prior. The wait between calls was long and my gecko was worked on in the early AM hours but I am grateful that she still did everything she could for my kiddo. It is my first day back home with her (I checked her in Friday night and she stayed overnight and all day Saturday and I picked her up Sunday morning) and she gave me everything I needed for at home care (including instructions) saline solution and little picks to clean her wound, liquid calcium to help my gecko form eggs to pass, and food I mix with water to feed her in case she refuses bugs. I go back on may 7th to make sure she's on track and doing fine. I could tell she was doing everything she could to help me despite the stress she was under. Don't let these bad reviews about rude front desk staff deter you from seeking help from this place!! Everyone is stressed in these covid times so just be patient. $600 for a 2 day stay at the vet and all necessities to care for my gecko and ensure she lives longer is so worth it. read more

The staff here clearly care about animals. I came home on a Saturday afternoon to discover that my cat Humphrey had fallen off my balcony and needed immediate veterinary care. After a fast online search, I found this place and called, not knowing what to expect. They answered the phone immediately and had me come right over. As soon as I walked in the door, the lady at the counter called to her technician and she whisked Humphrey back to perform triage. I didn't wait too long before speaking to the vet on duty, who was very reassuring and knowledgeable. She explaining exactly what they were doing and the preliminary diagnosis. The staff provided me with an estimate, giving both a high and low range, so that I knew what to expect and didn't experience 'after-the-fact' sticker shock. I have to say that I felt the fees they charged were very reasonable, particularly considering the weekend/after hours nature of the emergency. They took excellent care of Humphrey, gave me good advice for follow-up care, and even gave him a splint with a little heart on it. Very dashing, if I do say so myself! I would absolutely come back here and wouldn't hesitate to refer my friends. read more

After 9 years of taking my dog to Berkeley Dog and Cat I have decided to stop. During these 9 years we visited frequently as my pup is mischievous and somewhat accident prone. In the early years of visiting Berkeley D&C staff was great. We saw many wonderful vets and vet techs, staff was friendly and they were on top of things. Since COVID things have taken a turn. I know everything and everyone has been challenged by COVID but what I have seen is a very big shift. The staff is almost completely new, appointments are booked for weeks and the only option is to come in for urgent care. This means a $160 dollar exam fee. Yesterday, I took my dog in to get her checked as she was limping on account of her arthritis. On the phone, I was told there'd be a two hour wait. Upon arrival we checked in and I was told it'd be 3 hours. Ok, that's fine... I had been told I would check my pup in with the vet tech and this would be a drop off appointment. After check in I waited 45 minutes before a tech returned to pick up my pup. I left and checked back in 4 hours later. I was told that my dog hadn't been seen, that there were 4 dogs ahead of mine and that's it's going to be a couple more hours... 4 hours later... I call back and I'm told my dog hasn't been seen yet and that it's going to be a couple hours more. At this point it's 6:30 pm, I had dropped off my girl before 10 am, so I told the receptionist to please refund my exam fee and that I'd be picking up my dog now. When I arrived for pick up my receipt was ready with my refund but it still took 20 minutes to get my dog back.... read more

(4.5 stars) Our kitty needed dental work -- probable extraction -- and since she's older we wanted a place that can use xrays. Our regular vet referred us to Berkeley Dog and Cat. Here's why I deduct a half-star: no separate place for cats vs. dogs and a LOT of dogs there. The rest is all good! The consult appointment went very well. We liked how attentive and detailed the dental pro was (Dr. Joo, who offers the added bonus of geriatric pet specialty), and appreciated getting a detailed estimate for low and high cost. We knew you cannot tell what's needed until the procedure is done. All in all, we felt comfortable! Intake went well, and they kept us updated along the way. Getting the kitty went well, too, if we ignore kitty's growling (she's feisty). The vet tech patiently explained care, and had a whole packet of before and after teeth photos -- even a diagram showing what teeth are in kitty's mouth. If you've ever tried to look at a cat's teeth, you'll get why that's extra cool. As it turned out, the procedure cost less than expected because only two teeth had to be extracted. In fact, the estimated cost was about the same as my regular vet's estimate without xrays. As kitty recovered at home, they were also very supportive when it seemed like kitty was not handling pain med well. She is fully recovered and even seems healthier! I'd like to add an opinion on some of the negative comments posted. I've had to take our kitty to Davis a few times for emergencies, special surgeries, etc. I think dealing with emergencies and upset humans is different than dealing with routine things. Berkeley Dog and Cat does both during the day, and it may be difficult for the staff at the desk to handle both well. They do an excellent job, but it's bound to be harder to switch on and off -- this may be why some humans with pet emergencies find the service lacking. read more

My bunny Cookie is scheduled for a CT scan and a visit with Dr. Linda Siperstein. Dr. Sip and her assistant Kaitlin are very professional, knowledgeable,and patient. They were able to diagnose the main health issue on my bunny and figure out the best approach for her. I gotta say, is not easy to find an experienced doctor who see exotic animals and perform complex surgery, it does required a bold surgeon like Dr. Sip. The front desk staffs are very friendly and helpful! I just wish the location is less busy as it took me hours to get there. read more

My mothers young cat had a stroke and was unable to walk. It's an incredible hard decision to put down a pet that only monents ago was in perfict health, and the kind vet techs and doctors here made the process as easy as it could be. I'm forever greatful for the care and understanding the staff showed us. While maintaining a professional demeanor, they still showed a high degree of empathy which made a horrible night not so horrible. Dr. Tino Luehman has taken such wonderful care of our rabbit Tito! We brought him into emergency during a very busy time and she did the surgery that was required. She is very knowledgeable about rabbits! Not only did she do a great job on Tito, she came to our home in Pleasant Hill all the way from San Leandro to show us how to administer all of the medications Tito needs as well as fed him the food required through a syringe. Not only that but she had a colleague pick Tito up from our house to bring him to her home for observation which she has offered to do from the kindness of her heart. She is just an amazing person all around! We feel confident with Tito in her care which takes a load off of our minds because we love him like a son. read more

While I appreciated the top notch care that my dog got here, and the high faith my regular vet had in the dental team... they did not inform me that my dog was not to be fed in the morning prior to surgery. I got a call from Dr. Joo who was very sweet, said that everything was fine until the end when she threw up undigested food, and apologized that no one told me. It seems, since that is the ONLY precaution, rather frustrating... as an extracted K9 is a major tooth... already causing some serious pain without the additional nausea of vomiting while being dysphoric. She told me she was going to send me to buy Pepcid to keep my dog from throwing up. I asked if they had it at the hospital, and it turns out they did. The last bit of dissatisfaction is that they charged me for the Pepcid. I understand that I signed a form that allowed the vet to do what was necessary... but I would argue that the necessity was because of their own shortcomings and that my dog had to suffer more discomfort... along with charging me for their mistake? $22 dollars is nothing, its not the money, it's the gesture. Some responsibility... you are the reason she threw up. Taking care of the cost of that medicine (surgery cost 65 times the amount of that prescription, so they are not at a loss... it would be the least you could do.) It might seem obvious to some - not to eat before surgery - but I've never had surgery myself or been admitted for anything medically serious. It's the job of the facility to inform / remind / question before a procedure if all protocol was followed. We had a follow up appointment the following week and I expressed my upset about the incident in the softest way I knew how. Dr. Joo changed her tone from apologetic over the phone to defensive in person. I was met with the response that the tech who printed out my estimates said it was on the forms she gave me. Let me reiterate... "The tech said..." ? Did you look yourself, Doctor, and confirm this here-say? -- A note about the only serious medical precaution placed on my forms for the financial estimate? This seems highly irresponsible. I went home and looked through all of my paperwork, and there were no warnings to be found. Even if it were the case - why, as medical professionals, would you trust a note on an estimate (costs) to suffice as an adequate walk through of the preparations that a patient needs (medical). These are totally different bodies of information, the medical being of a higher priority than the other. So my take-away here is that either Dr. Joo and her tech are calling me a liar - that I've been informed of something although I was absolutely not. Or this tech is not being honest with Dr. Joo and she did not follow with due diligence to confirm what she was told. I've saved all my forms. Somewhere, someone is not taking responsibility and that is incredibly upsetting. Integrity is all I'm looking for, and that extends beyond skills in the operating room. I have not had repeat experiences so I cannot speak to anything outside of this surgery. That being said the surgery was a success and my dog is healthy and happy. But, there is dishonesty in the air and that needs to be magnified. It would be a disservice to this center and the patients if I didn't say something publicly. Perhaps they might take this review to improve their protocol in the future. read more

The receptionist told me the wait would be 3-4 hours so I decided to try my luck at Berkeley Dog & Cat and I am so glad that I did! The staff was so kind to me and Kona. The wait was under 30 minutes and the vet was able to see me very quickly. They were very transparent about costs and they estimated around 550 dollars to remove the foxtail. I ended up paying around 450 because they didn't end up needing IV and some other things. It's not cheap but it's not an unreasonable price at all for an emergency vet visit. I brought her in around 3 and got her back within 2 and a half hours! They were so kind and patient and efficient! I'm so glad I came here. read more

Started taking my dog here during pandemic so I can't speak to how things were pre-pandemic...I'm assuming things slid downhill since Covid threw everything askew. If I could find another vet I would, but during pandemic no one was taking new clients. This place has caused so much aggravation and stress it's not even funny. Get the run-around every time. They never have medications ready when they say they will -- seems to be poor channels of communication between front desk and pharmacy/dr's. Getting through on the phone is tough and you will be on hold a while, and then whatever gets discussed gets lost in an abyss, so u end up having to re-communicate to multiple ppl over several phone calls to accomplish basic things. I often end up just driving over because it's so futile to get info via phone. Basic diagnostics like ultrasound are not available at this office, so I don't know how it can be called a "hospital". Very little actual interaction with vets. Feels very impersonal, and pricing is twice what my old vet charged. Very frustrating business, I hope they figure it out soon because having an ill pet is stressful enough without then having major difficulty with the vet. I hope I have better experiences in the future so I can re-review, but I have very little positive to say about it at this point :( read more

Took my dog here two years ago when he was eating less and loosing a lot of weight. They sent us home with a large bill after not finding anything wrong and not running any tests. We brought our dog back a day later when he was getting worse, only then did a different vet from the first one decide to run tests and found out he had pancreatitis and it was too late to turn it around. We got a few more weeks with our dog before we had to say goodbye to him, at a different vet clinic. It never occurred to me to leave a review before now. I really wouldn't recommend this vet, everything felt more like a transaction and we really had to haggle for his care at a time when we were worried, grief-stricken, and needed professionals to do their jobs. The only benefit is that it is open 24/7. read more

What a joke! I solely use this clinic for prescription refills and they are so incompetent that they can't even do that. Placed a prescription refill on 10/15 and here I am on 10/25 with no approval on the refill through the online pharmacy. I called all day today and was not able to get anyone on the phone. Please do not go here if you have any love for your pet. My cat has a tumor for crying out loud and I can't even get a prescription refill for it within 10 days. I ran out of her medication TONIGHT. Don't even think about coming here. read more

We want to give a strong recommendation to Dr. Jeff Freeman here, who has treated two of our cats for several years, and has ultimately given them both a peaceful ending. He is so gentle and compassionate, as well as being an excellent diagnostician. When we brought in our cat, Lulu, with what we thought was an eye infection, he immediately diagnosed her with a much more serious problem, and referred us to a veterinary ophthalmologist. This prolonged her life, but eventually it was time for euthanasia, which he administered at the hospital in a special room that was comfortable and soothing, and let us hold her and say goodbye for a long time. Then he spent time with us afterward as well, and shared our grief. We are so grateful to him. read more

SO grateful to this vet! Our recently adopted pup, Bella, tore her dew claw. This I did not know when I looked down and saw her covered in blood. Terrified and in tears, I called the vet (it was 8pm on a Friday night and our usual vet was not open) and they walked me through my choices. We ended up bringing her in to check out her claw. The staff here is WONDERFUL. We felt so welcome and calm! They were so patient and kind, and took us in almost immediately. They ended up removing her claw (poor baby) and bandaging her up. When they were done, Bella was as happy as ever (and looked adorable in her bandage). We got out of there for only $200 (for a Friday night emergency vet visit!). Might be changing vets now.... Dr. Nancy Sinai gave her a thorough physical, and recommended changes in diet as well as some short term medicines to help boost her strength. It seems to have been exactly what she (the bird) needed, and she appears to be mending well. The attention to detail, and the followup, by Dr. Sinai and her staff are remarkable. They obviously love their patients, and are very skilled and experienced. The waiting room was mostly full of dogs and cats when we arrived. But if you are looking for a bird vet in the East Bay -- this is the place. (They are also open 24 hours for emergencies). read more

Do not go here. My cat was experiencing constipation issues and I decided to take her to the pet ER to make sure it was nothing serious. I thought at most she would need an enema and laxative. After waiting for 2 hrs we were finally seen by Dr. Sharon Liu. She did not do an examination, took 5 minutes to look at the cat and took her in the back to check vitals. She says the cat likely needs an x-ray and said she would draw up the 'five star plan.' An hour later, she sends one of the technicians in with a $1,400 bill that included keeping the cat overnight. Meanwhile my cat is in the cold back room wailing... We ask a few logistical questions that are out of the scope of the technicians knowledge and she proceeds to ask the Dr for confirmation. 30 mins later the doctor returns with the following response: "What is the problem?! The technician said you don't understand the terms of the treatment? What don't you understand?!" My husband and I were shocked. She came in extremely aggressively and was coldly yelling at us. We were so uncomfortable that we asked for the cat and went home. I DID NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE LEAVING MY CAT UNDER THE CARE OF DR. LIU. I am looking into reporting her to the Veterinary state boards. I took my cat to PETS Referral Center and had the most amazing experience. She is much more comfortable and healthy now. read more

I have been going to this Vet for about 10 years and I always thought they did a great job. But my recent visits and phone encounters have left me wanting to find a new practice. I understand dealing with the Covid situation is difficult but they seem completely disorganized. I just called to ask questions about buying prescription food and the woman I spoke with came across as impatient and abruptly ended the call before I could finish. Plus the doctors I've dealt with lately are a bit alarmist, always suggesting more tests and seemingly unnecessary treatments. read more

After our interactions with the front staff today, we're done bringing them out business for our two dogs today. We'll take the thousands of dollars we've spent elsewhere, we're done. read more
