I came in on a same day appointment for my cat who had developed stomach issues. Like a lot of other cat owners know, it can be stressful finding a vet that can give as good care to cats as they often do for dogs. I came here on a recommendation from my usual vet who were out of availability and boy am I glad. Dr. K was wonderful, empathetic, sweet, and very detailed in her care of my cat. She understood how to approach to my little scaredy cat and did what she could to avoid any further stress. She answered my questions, provided me with important information, and we were on our way! I also want to say thanks to the front office and the vet techs. The place seemed very busy and it seemed they were all working everywhere all at once and even then they were prompt and polite. Although I would happily pay anything to make sure my cat is okay, I can't deny I was thinking about what it would cost since it's an urgent care vet, but I found the price fair and, at least for me, affordable. My 6 months old puppy woke up with what I thought was pink eye (red irritated eye with green discharge) and his normal vet didn't have any appointments so I was told to go to go here. Thankfully they were able to get him in today, unfortunately it was not a great experience. The vet techs were great but the vet who saw us Dr. Nilanthi Kulasekara did not have great bedside manner. She told me dogs don't get conjunctivitis and if he did have conjunctivitis it would be in both eyes, not just one. So we are looking at a cornea scratch or pressure infection that untreated would cause him to lose his eye. She also questioned why I waited until the third day of him having an irritated eye to come in and when I explained it didn't seem to be bothering him (no scratching, squinting etc until today) and I was waiting to see if it would clear up on its own she cut me off to tell me it was bothering him that's what the redness means. I was pressured into doing a full eye work up and that he would need to be sedated and was quoted an estimate of $700 on the low side. When I asked about trying to treat for conjunctivitis first, or starting with just seeing if he had a cornea scratch I was told it would be "negligent". After paying the $700 deposit, him being sedated, and a full eye work up by the vet techs Dr. Nilanthi Kulasekara came back in the room to look at his eye just to tell me it was in fact conjunctivitis and all he needed was two different eye drops. I was credited back $65 of the $700 spent but left with a poked and prodded sedated puppy who had to be carried to the car and what I feel was a scammy money grab. While I understand it is important to rule out serious issues, it would have been nice to be given multiple treatment options, a more narrowed down diagnosis of what was most likely going on with his eye, or trying to examine his eye further before insisting on sedation. On another note, it would be nice for the emailed invoice to include a breakdown of the services provided rather than just a dollar amount. read more

Soooooo... went back to UP today for a different animal and different issue. Because of my experience one month ago, I purposely didn't book the 3:40p appointment that was listed as available on their website. Instead, I simply drove there. Welp, when I got there I was told by the front desk person that they do not accept walk-ins and are appointment only. This was in direct opposition to what I was told previously and wrote in my prior review. Also, as there was only one doctor who already had two procedures going on, that he "didn't want to overwhelm" them. So he said that we could not be seen. These doctors are trained ER doctors from what it reads on the website. I write that because saying that a doctor will be overwhelmed makes it seem like they would be frazzled. Could be just poor word choice but I just don't believe that any doctor trained and practiced in emergency medicine would be that. read more

My husband took our kitten in last night as it appeared to be a emergency. Kitten was very sick and we were very concerned. Wasn't eating but was drinking. This high energy kitten was lethargic. It appeared he had a respiratory issue and an eye infection. Because they do not have 24 hour care my husband was sent home with eye medication and nothing else. And told he needed to find place that had 24 hour care. And blood work done to find out what was wrong. None of this was done by them. The poor guy came home and crossed the rainbow bridge in my husband's arms 6 hour later. They are not a true emergency or urgent care facility. Update: I spoke to my husband and he felt all you were concerned was the dollar amount what it could cost not the wellbeing of the animal. Maybe we both are "old school" when it comes to our animals. Our retire vet, which we had over 40 years was like a family member. And he understood we would do anything for our pets. However maybe if it had come across that you cared he would not have had been supported in making a decision on some of the care for the kitten. To him it was more like it was all about the money Sorry I cannot change the rating. You will not have to worry about us returning. read more

We unfortunately had to take our cat in, but the ease of booking an appointment for same day care was great and a much better option than waiting 6-8hrs in an ER! When we arrived we were seen within 5 minutes by Dr. Chan who was very kind, helpful, and gave us updates throughout the process. She also ensured all of our questions were asked. They are very responsive to phone calls I had to follow up. From being there for a good chunk of time, I got to see how busy yet efficient and important all of the employees here are! This place is close to our place and easy to get to. The staff was really nice and helped us right away when our little baby girl cat had broken out due to fleas. We couldn't stay with her, which is truly what we prefer, but I also understand that not all locations can do this. The nurse who helped us was super friendly and comforting, we loved her. She gave us tons of helpful information which we appreciated. The doctor was informative, patient, and answered all of our questions and gave us very good advice for the future if we ran into this type of situation again. Overpriced scam of a business. Charges through the nose for very basic stuff. Had to ask for just the very basic procedure until we can see the real vet. The very basic "care" was saline solution for hydration and the final bill was over $300! It involved literally administering fluids. We paid $149 exam fee and were able to go in the exam room while Dr. Nilanthi Kulasekara weighed and examined his eye & was very thorough on making sure we understood everything, she is excellent and knows her stuff & is very caring and understanding & kept him a few hours for diagnosis which was a large corneal ulcer on his left eye and conjunctivitis and she was able to save his eye. The meds prescribed cleared up everything and instructions from her have his eye looking normal. They are bit pricey but they definitely know what their doing. my dog wasn't feeling well and her behaviors started to make me worry. She wasn't eating and shaking uncomfortably. I started to look for places near me that I could take her to and this was the only place within 10 miles of me that would be able to see her same day that wasn't emergency pet care. I immediately felt relief The staff were so warm and caring. They were kind when greeting us for our appointment and they were fairly prompt. The vet that examined my dog was very thorough and willing to chat with me about all of my worries. She walked me through multiple options and made me feel comfortable to make any decision. What made me really happy with their service is that they followed up with me by phone, and when they did, my dog felt worse. And they were willing to immediately fill a prescription for me while having a 15 minute phone conversation, which felt above and beyond. This visit was about 4 months ago and today my dog is doing well thanks to their advice and care. I'm so grateful for this urgent pet hospital and their staff putting their heart into their job and also being extremely reasonable with their treatments. Our experience on a weekend for our cat went well. She had symptoms that were serious but not emergency, so we called and made an appointment for the afternoon. They are not open holidays or after hours. It was a little weird that when we called right as they opened, the phone was forwarded to someone's personal voicemail, but then a couple minutes later I called again and the receptionist picked up and was professional. We arrived a little early and they got us into a room quickly. The receptionist was nice and complimented our cute cat. Everything in the exam room looked quite clean. Mel the tech came quickly to take vital signs and was really sweet to our cat. Dr Juliet Bowdidge was delightful, so gentle and discussed the possible options. We agreed to do a urinalysis which they can do in their house lab and then send out for an outside culture. Initial estimate was $699 and they took a $400 credit card deposit. The total ended up being just under $600. Not cheap but we had to have the cat seen! The urine sample withdrawal was super quick, then the doctor came to explain. One of us was back in the car with the cat by 1:30. This was the longest wait, we waited for the tech to have time to package and bring the meds for almost half an hour. We got home almost exactly 2 hours after start of our appointment which is much better than at emergency rooms. Overall a good experience and we recommend and would use them again, though we hope we don't need to! read more

We returned from vacation and unfortunately, our beloved dog, Bebe, started having bloody diarrhea. We decided to seek treatment after she started appearing lethargic and lost her appetite. We were able to get a same day appointment with Dr. Kouch within the next two hours. Dr. Kouch and staff were so sweet and kind during our visit. There was minimal wait time. Bebe can be apprehensive with strangers and with a new environment, I knew she was kind of stressed out. But Dr. K's staff were so kind and gentle with her. Dr. Kouch answered all our questions without judgement and offered multiple options for treatment. They were not pushy with regards to what she should get and Dr. K even wrote two prescription scripts after we left so we could pick up the medication through a different route because it was cheaper. They even gave us some recommendations for pet dentists. She followed up and sent her Bebe's visit notes that night as well as an email the day after wishing Bebe's speedy recovery. My cat wasn't fell ill; wasn't eating and drinking very little water. Took some time to figure out where to take him for care and the reviews for this place were fairly good and it wasn't too far away so I decided to take him here. Was able to book a same day appointment and was asked to complete an intake questionnaire and was told that there would be an initial examination fee of $133. I arrived at the designated time and asked to wait for the vet. I was the only person in the waiting room and it took about 20 minutes to be checked into one of the office areas. The veterinarian examination was completed and options were provided along with the associated cost for each. My beloved pet of 20 years sadly passed away but I appreciated the care he was given. Stay far away, the manager Misty threatened to call the police on me because I asked to speak with the doctor! I made an appointment for my 17 year old dog to get tested for a UTI, I told the receptionist that we had a sample we took two hours ago when I made the appointment. There was a huge accident on the freeway while we were en route and I called to let them know we were about 5 min away and had come from the Oakland hills. They said if we didn't arrive within 5 min we would have to reschedule. I said we may arrive 5-7 min. We pulled up 16 minutes late, 6 min after I spoke with the front desk. The waiting room was empty as was the parking lot. The same staff member I spoke with told me we would have to reschedule. I was flabbergasted, I asked if we could just have the sample screened for uti, the receptionist said no and that they would need a new sample anyways. Huh?! We called to ask if we could use our own sample. I asked to speak with the doctor because it was a minute after the cut off time and we had called to give a heads up. The doctor was with an urgent patient (so if we had not been delayed we would've had to wait!). I said I would wait for the doctor. A tech came out to explain that even if we hadn't been delayed we would've had to wait and yet we would still not be able to be seen. I said I would wait to speak with the doctor. The same tech returned with a filthy phone and handed it to me and said the manager Misty wanted to speak with me. She was immediately rude, I explained what happened and she said "you are over an hour late" I told her that wasn't true and recounted the story from above. She said it was 6:15 pm and I told her that wasn't correct, her clock was off by 30 min. She then corrected herself but offered no apology. I thought it sounded like she was under the influence of something because she wasn't fully aware of her surroundings and her speech was very mangled but maybe she's just awful at dealing with upset customers. As we discussed the situation she began raising her voice and speaking over me. She then told me I was "being combative." And "We have cameras" I hadn't yelled at the staff or gotten in their face, I was much closer to crying than to yelling. And after I said I would wait to speak with the doctor I sat down on the ottomans they use as seating--all easily verifiable by their camera system. I told Misty I was shocked at this treatment and then she told me I needed to leave and she was calling the police and I would be forcibly removed. I truly was shocked--the police should not be called to handle frustrated customers who are willing to pay exorbitant fees ($180 for an exam). I told her to call the police because I'd love to talk to them. I ended up leaving 3-5 minutes later and taking my pup to the emergency vet where they happily accepted our urine sample (our regular vet would have taken it as well). If you are a person of color (as I am) I would stay far far far away from a vet that threatens police involvement because of lazy and dazed employees and has receptionists who provide incorrect information (the same receptionist had to check if they ran urinalysis in house).
