I had Dr. Horn repair damage done by a bike accident where I lost 2 front teeth. I had significant bone loss, and in order to do an implant and cantilevered bridge to replace them, he first had to do 2 very delicate bone grafts over a period of 18 months, then place the implant, and finally when all was healed my wonderful dentist placed the bridge and crown of the implant. Dr. Horn was so kind throughout this difficult process, he called me personally after each surgery to make sure all was well and comfortable for me, he made sure my partial looked good while I was waiting for final implant, and I simply cannot recommend him highly enough. This is perhaps the best dental practice I've ever been to. Dr. Meetu Moody is an excellent surgeon, with a lovely chair side manner. I felt comfortable and assured in what would be happening, and the actual procedure was - dare I say - easy and comfortable. I've been a patient of both Dr. Maharathi and Dr. Horn. Both of these guys are great. I first had a flawless surgery done with Dr. Maharathi; everything from the shots to my follow-up was done with care and my very picky dentist was very happy with the results. Recently Dr. Horn did some really challenging gum grafting. This practice has solid protocols and Rockstar dentists. Everyone in treatment rooms washes their hands, wears their mask once, clean gloves etc., exams are extremely thorough and fees are transparent. They are clear on the concept. I really liked that they gave me all of my mediations directly from the office so I didn't have to go to a pharmacy afterwards. All of the follow-up instruction was crystal clear and the results are fantastic. I remember when I had my wisdom teeth removed by a different practice and they just threw a bag of gauze at me and retreated away. After coming to term's with the fact that my first molar needed to be extracted due to a previous filling(placed elsewhere )that left my tooth in shambles I really didn't know who I could trust to make this experience less traumatic. One of my trusted colleagues referred me to Dr. Barren Hong. From the initial call to my first visit I was very impressed by their professionalism and knowledge of everything I would need to have a great result and best experience. The woman at the front desk I believe her name is Debbie expedited my appointment because she knew I had been in pain. I came in and was greeted friendly by them. After filling out paperwork I was escorted to the treatment room which was clean and organized. I was greeted by Dr. Hong and he has an excellent bedside manner. We discussed my treatment options and after he made a treatment plan for me we started the procedure. I really like how he allowed me to take a few minutes to get numb and not rush the process. I literally felt nothing during the entire procedure. His style and technique is definitely to be envied. His sutures placement is even aligned perfectly. He's very meticulous about his work and it shows. Although I'm sad about losing one of my teeth I'm glad I went to this office. When I got the news from my dentist that I need work done, I was unhappy. The silver lining was the terrific work I got done by Dr Horn. It was a small surgical procedure to lower the gum line. In and out in 1-1/2 hours, with no pain medication needed afterwards. He gives a very straightforward consultation, I knew what was going on the whole time. The procedure and follow-up have been exceptional. Disorganized, incompetent, inconsiderate. The office brought up insurance problems AFTER I was in the chair with HALF OF MY FACE NUMB. Due to the insurance questions and some extra xrays they took, I was told we were out of time and I had to reschedule. They numbed me for no reason, and the numbing reached my eye - it felt weird to blink. I have never experienced that at any other dental office. They had my insurance info and xrays for plenty of time to schedule the correct length appointment and figure out what my bill would be. (After checking at home, I find they even got my insurance coverage wrong). There is no way I will reschedule here. Update: I had the procedure done by Brian Bast. His anesthesia was much more localized, and wore off much faster. I cannot believe the five star reviews here. I still think of Dr. Grimm's office as my worst doctor experience to date. read more

I had an extraction scheduled with Dr. Horn after closely researching for the best. Upon calling I immediately knew I was in good professional hands. The staff were very thorough and descriptive on what to have ready at time of appointment and what to expect. Arrival at the office - I was pleasantly greeted by a bubbly staff who had my forms ready to fill out while they notified the doctor of arrival. I had a few questions on the procedure (maybe a little nervous) and the staff was informative and maybe even told the doctor I was a little nervous. I am picky about my healthcare and found Dr. Hong after doing very thorough research on the type of dentist that is best suited to perform my implant. I had one of my large molars extracted after it became infected. I was without tooth for about a year, before going to Dr. Hong. The procedure went smoothly and the implant was set. About a month later, the cap became loose and I had to go back and Dr. Horn was able to screw it back on. He was also very pleasant. These things happen from time to time and I was told not to use a waterpik, but did anyway. Probably should've listened to Dr. Hong's instructions in the first place! Anyway, after my implant I had to choose a dentist to mold the abutment and crown. I found Dr. Kinsel in Foster City. He took a look at the implant and remarked that "he did a very good job". He said the gum tissue and implant looked very good. He asked who I went to. I told him Dr. Hong. He was thoroughly impressed. He showed me the screw/cap they used and said it was "very smart of him" to use this type of shape for healing tissue. Now, just to put this in perspective, Dr. Kinsel is the director of implant dentistry at UCSF. So, don't take my word. Take another very reputable dentist's word! I had a gum graff this week with Dr. Grimm. The total experience was terrific. Her office staff is very professional and handled all the insurance questions before I could even ask. Everything was very clear up front. Dr. Grimm handled what I consider the hardest part for the patient, the numbing process, better than any other oral Dr. I have seen. It was absolutely painless. I assume the surgery went well as there do not seem to be any residual problems. Again, everyone there is very nice and very professional. read more

I had heard so many horror stories about gum grafting surgery that I was prepared for a week of pain and disability. I was so pleasantly surprised. Dr. Grimm took plenty of time to explain how she worked, what she would do and what I should expect. Also, while the previous periodontist I had consulted planned to do my whole mouth at a price that was enough for a down payment on a house, she didn't feel I needed every tooth done. She came up with a more moderate plan that involved doing fewer areas over time. Her staff was terrific at helping me figure out how to make the most of my insurance and time the treatments to reduce my out-of-pocket as much as possible. In fact, they even helped me figure out how much my insurance would pay for orthodontia-- something they do not do there. In fact, I had almost no pain after the surgery. I was amazed, but her assistant said, "Most people don't." Everything healed beautifully and quickly. I can't believe Henderson C went to the same office. One thing you should know about Dr. Grimm when you are comparing or talking to people is that she prefers to use your own tissue rather than cadaver tissue. She has found that this method produces better, longer-lasting results. But it does limit how many teeth she can do at one time. To me, this illustrates her experience and expertise, as well as putting her patients first. read more

A few months back I was in need of an implant for a tooth I had cracked a couple of years back. I had been dreading the procedure as I understood it to be painful, time consuming, and expensive. Unfortunately, because I had delayed replacing my extracted tooth with an implant, the tooth opposite began to "erupt" i.e. grow bigger and at a funny angle - apparently this happens if you're missing a tooth... It was upon learning this that I decided I had to do something about my missing toothm - pain, money and inconvenience aside. I asked around and Dr. Hong's name kept coming up as the best. I went to Dr. Ryan Horn for a consultation about receding gums. He spent a great deal of time with me and explained everything I needed to know. He and the office staff are personable, professional and really make a dental appointment as pleasant as it can be. Dr. Horn seems conservative about surgery, only recommending what is really needed right now. I appreciated this because I had a previous dentist that pushed work that I really didn't need. I had gum surgery and found Dr. Horn to be patient, kind and gentle. He personally called me evening of the surgery to see how I was doing. The outcome is great - I have healthy gum (he did a graft of my own gum), growing where previously the roots of my tooth were exposed. Had grafting done on 6 teeth 2 days ago. The procedure went fine. It was just long and my neck and shoulders got tired. Barron Hong and his assistant were great. Very professional, very nice. Dr. Hong seemed very knowledgeable and comfortable with the procedure. My only problem has been continuous bleeding from the donation site at the roof of my mouth. It's going on 48 hours and I'm still getting blood in my mouth, although not as much. Also, my jaw swelled up pretty bad the next day and is not going down. Bad bruising on the inside of my mouth. From reading other reviews, this is not unusual and much better than a lot of people. I have had no pain whatsoever! Just soreness and swelling at the grafting site. I called the office about the bleeding and they were very helpful. Advised placing caffeinated tea bags on the roof of my mouth, and if it continued to come in and have it checked. So far I have not done that as the bleeding seems to be getting a little less every day. I feel like I am in very good hands and would definitely recommend Dr. Hong for any procedure. As a side note, they made sure I knew exactly how much the procedure was going to cost and what my out of pocket was going to be. I very much appreciated that. read more

I have been in the rehab therapy field for 20 years since 1998. I hold myself to a high standard of healthcare services to my patients.......I was told that Dr. Hong is pretty good in his expertise and was referred to him. I just call his office today (9/16/2019 around 11am) for an appointment. However, I canceled it right after I talked to the front desk lady. Her unfriendliness, impatience, unpleasantness and insolence are the major deterrence for me seeing Dr. Hong (Her name calls Norka. I might misspell it).........No telephone manner at all.......Why should I suck it up an unprofessional front desk lady if I need to pay at least $2500 to 3000 for an implant. They just don't understand that skilled services start from front desk or telephone conversation. Believe or not, 90% of the front desk medical staffs are rude according to surveys. I truly understand that this lady is only tip of iceberg. My office have the same problem. Good Luck Dr. Hong. You may not care since you make good enough. read more

This clinic has changed. Now it's a money making machine! They will scare you and make you commit to non necessary cleaning or surgery. I have been with Doctor Lodberg Grimm over 5 years but recently she has retired. Then I came back for a teeth cleaning. A new nurse/doctor cleaned my teeth brutally and insulted me constantly by complaining about my teeth's condition. She scheduled me a return examination with Doctor Moody. Doctor Moody spent half hour to exam my teeth and review my file and X-Ray, then recommended me gum surgery for my deep pockets. But I DID have my deep pockets fixed already! We found out the X-Ray she read was from 5YEARS AGO! She didn't bother to read the new one from year 2016 and didn't read my file at all. Then she want to do a "deep cleaning" on me. The receptions tried to push me to sign agreement and told me I still have $2,500 in my insurance to use. Since Dr.Moody pushed me to do a surgery that I have already done, I doubted her words. So I refuse to accept a deep cleaning on the spot and left with their documents. I went to my optometrist and confirmed that "Deep Cleaning" is not needed. How can you be a doctor with money in mind? My previous dentist told me that I needed a "Sinus Lift" which he said he couldn't do and I would have to go elsewhere. At that time, I had never heard the term "Sinus Lift" and hadn't a clue what it meant! After 10 weeks of internet research and many unsatisfactory visits to several dental offices, I finally found Dr Horn. Through my research, I had gained some knowledge and understanding of the surgical procedure; the various methods that could be employed; how it would be staged etc. On my first visit, after examination, Dr Horn proposed how he would approach the Sinus Lift and how he would place the implant at the same time. He saw that I had some comprehension and interest in what was involved and patiently answered all my questions On the day of my surgery, as I lay in the dental couch, more than a little nervous, he kept me in picture with step by step narration of how it was progressing. I had minimal discomfort during the surgery and upon completion, a bite wing x ray was taken and displayed on the monitor. The implant looked perfectly positioned with a dome of graphed bone around it! I was very happy. It is now 48 hours since surgery and I have had very little pain and no visible swelling. I have been going to Berkeley Periodontics for about a year and a half. In that time I have gotten amazing treatment by everyone in this practice. I had avoided going because I expected it would be a tortuous experience. Instead I found a highly professional, warm and very knowledgeable staff. Dr. Horn is a great dentist and a very nice person. He put me at ease and made a dreaded procedure very tolerable. He even called me after my procedure to see how I was. He includes you in the decision process and talks to you like an adult, respecting your choices. The billing staff is knowledgeable and makes every effort to accommodate your needs. The recommended treatment was to first save my teeth and treat my gum disease. Unfortunately I had waited too long to save some teeth and I was given various options for treatment. I chose to have implants and Dr. Horn explained in depth the steps and costs. I have had three gum surgeries with Dr. Grimm and will have a fourth in a few weeks. My last surgery was challenging, but Dr. Grimm made it work. She is a skilled professional who I trust completely. When I changed dentist a few years back b/c I live in Contra Costa County, my dentist recommended another periodontist. I visited the office and knew that I could not let anyone but Dr. Grimm handle my surgery. I have had an implant with an oral surgeon and would choose to have gum surgery with Dr. Grimm over an implant any day. Dr. Grimm makes one feel so comfortable under her care. Dr. Barron Hong was a godsend when I needed 2 implants done. I was already consulting with another periodontist in SF and was not happy with his bedside manners. I happen to run into a friend who just had an implant done and raved about her periodontist. She said it was so painless that she fell asleep during the procedure. So I immediately switched periodontist to Dr. Hong. Even though I never fell asleep during the procedure, Dr. Hong was gentle, courteous and explained the procedure well.
