We had an overall great experience with Berkeley Roof Services. We got in touch with them in January about a roof replacement and heard back the next day. They were able to inspect the roof about a week later and sent a proposal the same day as the inspection. The proposal was more thorough than others we received with many specific details of the job and that ultimately swung our decision. It's a small roof so they were able to complete the job in a single day. Price was on par with other bids we received. Communication was good throughout the process. I called Berkeley Roof Services about a new roof and gutters for my rental property. We discussed terms and I was sent a contract. I discussed the contract with Mr Miles Morris, I signed it via email and sent it back to him. I did not fill it out correctly, but I spoke with Miles about it and he understood what I wanted and said I was good. This was in January 2023. My appointment was not scheduleded till August. So August came and I was told to meet the worker there on the first day. I was on site but the lead person was not there and the workers didnt seem to know much. I tried to ask if they were giving me a roof with a pitch on it since my roof is flat and he seemed to say yes. I waited about 40 min for the head person but he hadnt yet come so I left. I think a day or two later I got a call saying job done and I was sent pictures of the new roof. In the pictures there was no pitch on the roof, I inquired about the pitch he said that was not on his paperwork. I was shocked and furious. He said he would have Miles Morris call me back which he did the following day. I had calmed down and had thought about my options. I could leave the roof flat and pay less money than I had planned but i really wanted a pitch on the roof. After talking to Miles he remembered our original conversation about the roof and he said the workers pulled the original paper work that I filled out incorrectly. So Mr Morris and I discussed pros and cons of a flat roof and I decided I really want a pitch on the roof. HE SAID HE WOULD TAKE OFF WHAT WAS DONE AND PUT A ROOF on WITH A PITCH FOR THE ORIGNAL CHARGE!!! I was so thankful to get the roof I wanted for price I originally agreed on! Mr Morris a man of integrity and that quality is hard to find these days!I will absolutely use Berk Roof Services again and I HIGHLY recommend them. read more

Having a house built in 1907, the roof has a few odd details to address, but Berkeley Roof did a fantastic job. Carlos and his crew showed up masked and were very neat in all aspects of the project. They were able to answer all my questions, cleaned up and took away everything at the end of each of the five days on-site. My neighbor recommended Berkeley even though they could not schedule time for his emergency work the year before. I know my neighbor check many companies and said he thought Berkley was the best. This company has provided the worst customer service of ANY contractor I've ever worked with! They started my job late, than rushed to complete it in the dark with no lights set up and they did not complete their work on the gutters. I immediately called them to express concern about the work in the dark and left a voicemail, since I couldn't reach a live person. It took multiple voice mails over 3 days before I even got a call back from them. When I did finally hear from them I asked repeatedly to speak to the owner, but 3 weeks have passed and I've never gotten a call from the owner. Three weeks have gone by since their original work, and finally they have come to complete the job. I asked them to send one of their senior people who hadn't been involved in the original project to inspect my roof (since some of the work was done in the dark), but they sent the original supervisor . As an alternative, I said I'd hire a roof inspector if they'd agree to deduct it from their fee, but they are unwilling to do that. Since the roof is newly installed I can't speak to whether the work was properly done, but completing it in the dark with no lighting does not speak well for quality control, and their unresponsiveness to my calls doesn't give me a lot of hope of getting good service if there is a problem. read more

Getting straight to the point, this company is the best I have ever worked with. I did a great deal of research before choosing this company to work on my home and I am so pleased that I did. Leo was the head of the working crew and I feel very lucky to have both him and his crew. The team worked extremely well together, each individual jumped in to complete a task that needed to be done seamlessly. Kevin Lee was the head supervisor who made sure all the materials were there on time and everything worked smoothly. They were on site every morning on time, answered all our questions and worked tirelessly to get the job done. This job was much more complex than most roofing jobs. We had 3 tar and gravel roofs topped with one more bitumen roofing material. This was really hard work and yet I heard no complaints, just determination to do the best job possible. Because another roofing company which also has high ratings, estimated an $800 dollar bill for fixing two leaks while the estimator from Berkeley Roof Services said that one leak would probably not happen again and the other one could be resolved by simple caulking. They gave me the most detailed proposal out of the four that I received and a reasonable price and warranty. Others charged way more without detailed specs and some charged less but couldn't meet higher quality specs and warranty that I was looking for. They came on time and finished the roof within three days and passed inspection without issue. I found a leak later and they came out to inspect only to explain that it was coming not from the roof but from our light well and took pictures to explain this to me in detail. Roof looks great and even requested white paint (better for the environment) and they delivered. Highly recommend especially if you are finding quality and availability tight in SF. read more

Carlos and his team led by Leal worked extremely hard during an unusual stretch of February nice weather to produce an outstanding roof assembly. They corrected standing water on a low slope roof and other issues that existed when the house was built 100 years ago. The master bedroom French doors had an improperly designed threshold leading to a veranda over the garage. They corrected the threshold by adding 3" of height combined with an integrated custom sheet metal pan to prevent water from leaking down into the garage. The main roof had ponding issues at the main outlets due to years of neglect. They corrected the wood decking problems, added insulation and crickets to correct the slope and allow proper draining. The outlets were increased in size with added overflows to prevent the roof from becoming a pool and collapsing if the main drains get clogged. The insulation panels have already provided added comfort during cold weather. The vents and sheet metal coping were properly placed and fitted. The torch down double layer modified bitumen material looks like it will last another 100 years. Joe Cunliffe produced a very detailed, technical estimate outlining solutions to roofing and water intrusion that never had been properly addressed. A refreshing bonus was that they did exactly what they promised in the contract and subsequent communication. I was very impressed by their work on my other house and was in contract waiting 7 months for a scheduled opening. This is another indicator that their exceptional work is in great demand. The wait was certainly warranted due to workmanship problems from a previous companies' poor work. Berkeley Roof Services's consistent quality workmanship and professionalism pays wonderful returns in comfort, protection, and property value. They responded very quickly before the winter rains (Oct, 2013) to fix a very poorly done and detailed 3 year old re-roof job done by Crown Ridge Roofing which leaked the first year it was up in Albany. Alway start with a very pleasant estimator: Joe Cunliffe (cell 510 648 9253) who will visit, inspect, advise and cousel, and provide a very reasonable and COMPLEAT estimate for work. He is not afraid to fix the work of others - and then guarantee and stand behind it. Next guy for your Project Manager is Ki Soio Ah, (cell 510 714 0796). He was great at mobilizing the crew first day and briefing them in detail about best approaches, materials, and investigation techniques. Then, insist on three great workmen who arrive on time, treat you and/or your tenants very well, clean up after themselves, and finish on time: Victor (lead) Concho (#2) and Carlos (#3). read more

good, not amazing. we had our roof replaced (took off 3 layers, put down new plywood, new shingles) by them about 18 months ago and the roof is fine and there aren't any leaks. i looked over the counterflashing on our three brick chimneys and inspected all the work they did each step of the way and it was done in a workmanlike manner. we have a difficult roof with a steep pitch and a turret in front so it was definitely a tough roof, but they did a good job that said, here are some nitpicks and bigger issues: the front office and our project manager weren't well-organized and responsive. they asked us for the choice of gutter color the day they needed us to pick it. no samples at the time of signing the contract or the first day of tearoff. a better place would have given us the color samples along with the shingle samples. the roof vents and roof jacks were painted to match the color of the gutters. this was fine for about six months, but then the paint began to peel, especially where the barcode stickers were. my guess is that they didn't prime the metal properly before painting. or, maybe they used "goo gone" where the stickers used to be and the paint didn't adhere. or, maybe they applied the paint to the metal after leaving it in the sun too long. no matter the reason, these are avoidable and even a handyman such as myself knows to avoid these pitfalls. we didn't get any excess materials - not one extra shingle, no extra touch up paint for the gutters, etc. a better place would at least offer it. they didn't ask us where we wanted any of the downspouts, and they moved a couple of them. we have a major drainage issue on the north side of our house and they placed half the downspouts there. they could have consulted us or at least placed the downspouts as far downgrade as possible. they also allowed one downspout to remain at the front of the house where the front stoop is. it dumps onto the stoop when it easily could have been eliminated and diverted to another downspout that takes the water away from the front entrance. it would have been nice if they were better trained to think about where they are having hundreds of gallons of water dumped. where our gable roof meets our turret, i would have preferred they build a cricket. they didn't mention it or offer it as an option. with stucco houses it's good practice to chip away stucco to counter flash under the stucco. when they patched the stucco they did a poor job of matching the texture. i would have rather done it myself (i've done some stucco work before) or subbed it out to a stucco contractor to get a better look. when we called for service (to repaint the peeling paint on the vents/roof jacks) it took several follow-up calls and was finally fixed on the third visit (one visit to see the problem, one visit wasted because they didn't have the right paint, one visit to do it). overall they did a good enough job on a difficult roof. there weren't any leaks during the process (it did rain a couple times during the job, but they took the proper precautions). there aren't any leaks now and i'm confident the roof will last a decent amount of time. but the office isn't on point and the workers were basically just trying to get through the job without thinking through some of the finer details. read more

Berkeley Roof Services replaced my roof last week in 5 days. From beginning to end their service was terrific. Miles came and gave me an estimate - I think in early September. The estimate and his explanations of what was needed was very clear and thorough. But because an El Nino years of rain was expected this year, demand was high and I was scheduled for December. That date was delayed several times due to rain. Because we were in contract though, someone came before the rainy season to patch a leak that I had had for years that no one else seemed to be able to handle. So, I was dry in the rain as I awaited my new roof. I have a particularly delicate situation because i work in a building in back of my house and had to know my clients would be safe walking to the back while workmen were there. They took exceptional care to make sure the walkway was safe. The foreman on the job was Leo. He was available as needed to explain things and deal with my questions and concerns without ever making me feel I was in the way or asking too much. My neighbor, whose property is right up against my house raved about how polite the workers were to her and that they covered her car so debris wouldn't harm her car. It was important to me that the workers wouldn't yell back and forth to each other and make undue noise because of my work. They definitely respected my wishes. Repainting the stucco that had to be replaced so they could put flashing at all seams, was not a part of the original contract. But in the end I bought the paint and asked them to do it, and Mike Lee, the supervisor on the job approved it without additional cost so I don't have to go find another contractor to finish it. The shingles look so great that I keep having to go out and gaze at my house. I recommend this group even though their bid was not on the low end, because their work was quick, thorough and done right! For the first time in years, I can look forward to the rain and not worry about a leak in my closet. I'm thrilled! read more
