What should have been a straightforward roof install on a new house build turned into an 8-month nightmare filled with delays, excuses, poor communication, and subpar workmanship. Getting updates was painful and it became very clear that finishing the job properly and in a timely manner was not a priority. The installers frequently showed up unannounced, without no notice and work on the roof and could explain the work they were onsite to complete. I hired an independent roof inspector, and the findings were unacceptable for a new roof. The report documented numerous installation deficiencies including improper starter shingles, incorrectly installed valleys, exposed and unsealed areas, missing flashing, improper low-slope installation methods, debris left throughout the roof, scratched metal panels, missed fasteners, and multiple areas that did not follow the manufacturer's installation requirements. I'm happy to share the report if anyone whats to reach out directly. The inspector specifically stated that his "main concern is the valleys" because of the likelihood of future leaks and recommended that all valleys be re-done entirely. He also recommended replacing sections of the newly installed roof because proper waterproofing materials were not installed in low-slope areas. I had to spend additional undue time and time dealing with repairs and verification work that should never have been necessary on a brand-new roof. We recently had our roof replaced and overall we are happy with the final result. The workmanship was excellent and the crew completed the project in about a day and a half. The workers were professional, efficient, and left everything looking great. When they came across a part of the roof with a weird underlayment, they took care of it without charging us more. There were other quotes from other roofers which were way higher than Apollo's and who were very strict about additional layers overshooting the quoted price. Our project manager, Guy, was very engaged early in the process and did a great job explaining the materials, scope of work, and overall process. While their price was not the cheapest, his knowledge and professionalism gave us confidence in choosing the company. We also appreciated how accommodating the team was with scheduling. Rain was in the forecast, and when we asked about starting earlier than planned, they adjusted the schedule and made it happen. Most of the product selection process was done online, and we did not see physical samples beforehand, so we relied a bit on trust and instinct when choosing materials and colors. We had purchased our house knowing the roof was old, so the first major home project we chose to do was the roof replacement. We got 3 free quotes after a quick Yelp search and Apollo's professionalism swayed us to signing with them. They weren't the cheapest quote, nor the highest quote. We waited to start the replacement project in July and the weather worked in our favor (even in Daly City). Our project manager Nicholas communicated with us everyday to make sure the work was happening as expected. It took the expected 3 days to complete, with Day 1 being teardown and Day 2-3 shingle installation/gutter installation. The crew arrived on time every day, super efficient and even cleaned up at the end of each day. Nicholas was pleasant to work with. He was always available through a quick text or call. With any roof teardown, it's to be expected to find some dry rotting so we had make sure to pad our budget with the unexpected. Our roof was estimated to be 30 years old, so it was not surprising when Nicholas notified us of some dry rotting around the chimney siding. He answered all of our questions and quickly gave us an estimate of how much it would be to give us new chimney siding. Again, very professional and we felt comfortable giving him the go to tear out the dry rotted siding. It's not about the money for us. Scheduling a simple estimate shouldn't be this difficult I never made it to the actual estimate, which tells you everything. I called on a Wednesday to schedule an appointment. We landed on 9AM Monday -- pending confirmation. That confirmation process turned out to be the whole problem. Sunday morning -- less than 24 hours before the appointment -- I received an email warning that if they didn't receive confirmation, they couldn't guarantee my slot and would reschedule. Fine -- except no one actually called to confirm until 8:55AM Monday morning, five minutes before the appointment was supposed to start. At that point, the technician (Benjamin) told me he'd be running late and couldn't arrive until after 10AM, a time I wasn't available. We agreed to reschedule to Thursday and hung up. Within one minute, I called back to say my partner could actually accommodate him later that same day. Benjamin told me the schedule had already been changed and he was completely unable to move the appointment under any circumstances. One minute. This was a long overdue review but we had an absolutely amazing time working with Guy Israel and his crew to replace our roof last year. Amongst all the contractors we reviewed, Guy was the most professional and thorough - he not only explained the whole re-roofing process with his prototype, but he also took extensive photos of our roof via his drone to give the exact estimate (which no other contractor did either). He also went to all the houses we liked to understand what kind of roof we wanted. Matti was very thorough and thoughtful around explaining the scope of work that could be done and he helped us finish ahead of schedule! We needed to fix a skylight leak and out of all the quotes we got, Apollo had the best repair/work warranty for our kind of repair and they were the only ones that explained what they would do to actually fix the issue. The past owners had a few patches done in the past, but they seemed to not be too effective over time, so hoping this would work. The drone footage he shared during the initial screening was really helpful to get a sense of what needed to be done and what could be done. On top of that, he was able to help us clear our gutters and add a mesh to prevent debris from coming in.
