I can't wait for the street car to be up and operating at the Berkeley Riverfront! They have definitely change the area a lot! The trail is still as beautiful as ever! So sad that Bar-K had to leave the area but hopefully they ass restaurants and more social things to attract people to the area! I especially love the volleyball! Really cool spot to walk around and take a look at the bridges, river, and city views. I came here at night after it cooled down a bit and I was able to easily find parking, which is free. That's rare to find where I live! I would recommend this for anyone visiting the area that wants to check out some nature, bridges, and different views of the city and surrounding areas. read more

Beautiful and so many fun things to do down there. From the bikes, to Bar K, to the sand volleyball courts, it's a lovely place to visit on a nice day. They also have a great space for events like the Fourth of July celebration! One downfall is that as you get closer to the casinos on the trail, there's a pretty gross stench that I think comes from this semi small water plant of some sort. Super close to the volleyball courts and not appealing at all. Otherwise, it's great. read more

My friend and I bicycled along the Riverfront Heritage Trail at Berkley Riverfront, and we were very happy to see the beautification projects the city has completed to make the Riverfront a place to visit. There's an outdoor fitness station which is very well-equipped; there's also plenty of benches and lookout points where you can stop and admire the Missouri River rolling past you. There are even stools strategically placed at the edge of the path so that you can watch the drawbridge operate when a large vessel passes through! Berkley Park is lovely and green, and the Heritage Trail itself is well-designed and maintained but relatively short. We had to take the elevator up to the street level and then navigate along Main Street to 3rd Street to Madison to catch the Intercity Viaduct trail to travel further west (all the way to Kaw Point, this trip). A couple of suggestions for the city to further improve the riverfront area: 1) Have public restrooms available. Port-a-potties just don't cut it anymore. 2) Pave the parking lot (or at least a pathway) you must drive through to get to riverfront parking from the street. The gravel lot is poorly maintained and we had to dodge a LOT of potholes. 3) Extend the Heritage Trail to the west--or at least have clear signage regarding how to link up with the Interstate Viaduct Trail. We relied on Google Maps, and there were a couple of places where we were competing with cars for space on the road. It would have been nice to have a clear bicycle path option for our travels. We'll take a few months before we return, but we're interested to go back to Berkley Riverfront and see if any upgrades have been made. read more

I've spent a lot of time enjoying urban parks and especially riverfront parks. The Chicago Riverwalk, San Antonio Riverwalk, and Memphis Bluffs have been some of my favorites - so I used those as my benchmark when I visited Kansas City's riverfront. I was disappointed by Berkley Riverfront and the Riverfront Heritage Trail. The limited number of convenient access points is frustrating. Once you're actually in the park, there are not enough places to sit, and not enough trees to provide shade while you're sitting. I came into the park via the Riverfront Heritage Trail from 2nd & Main Streets, and it took me a while (20+ minutes?) to walk to a point where I could sit and actually enjoy the park/views. Also frustrating is that public transit access to the riverfront is poorly designed: as I was leaving Berkley Riverfront, I decided to take KCTA's 77 bus (the only route passing near the park) back to downtown. The bus stop (near to the Union Berkley apartment building) is just a sign on the grass next to the street - no sidewalk, no bus shelter, and clearly an afterthought. If they could build a shelter for the bikeshares/scooters, you think they could've done the same for transit riders as well! Lastly, I was personally unimpressed by the actual views from the park. Looking north the Missouri River was murky, and looking south the views of the downtown skyline weren't great. If you're interested in photographing these, I wouldn't recommend this spot. All in all, Kansas City is full of beautiful spots but this wasn't one of them. But Berkley Riverfront gets 2 stars from me instead of 1 because, hey, at least KC is trying. read more

I love this park! I spend most of my time over at the sand volleyball courts during the week playing in the KC Crew league. But I have also enjoyed taking my hammock and finding a good tree to hang up in and relax! I've even got to experience Fourth of July and the grilled cheese festival down there. They just built an outdoor gym with plenty of different exercises able to be performed on it. It's a great area with an aaaaamzing view of the sunset while you walk or run along the river. Bar K (a dog park Bar) is going up right by it as well which is really nice for the area. Berkley Riverfront is really flourishing and I'm excited to see what else they bring down there! read more

Had been up since 4 am. Meeting at 5 AM (7 AM local time). Done at noon and needed to nap, but instead worked some more until it was 4 PM. Flight in 3 hours and I parked here to go for a walk. Last memo was a weekly report which I struggled as usual - not the English portion but the Chinese translation. But all was done and I could finally enjoy the nature. Weather in the summer, along the river is nice. The river - as T would correct me later on, is not Mississippi, but Missouri. The bridge was new. Lewis and Clark was here, the sign says. There is a path by the river. It parallels to the freight train route, a long and continuous train carrying containers was passing me by, and some joggers too, going the opposite direction. A woman, who lives in San Jose, was visiting her parents, she left 15 years ago and came back for a visit. She took photos of me holding coffee from the store across the street at the River Market, in front the railing at the end of the bridge, on the look out perched above the river. The railings filled with padlocks like you'd see in Paris. She said that the photos were profile picture worthy. I took photos of the blossoming flowers, yellow, and sunflower like. I tried to take photos of the two freight trains going opposite directions, crossing the same bridge but I couldn't do it so well with the back lighting. I heard cicadas singing - it reminded me of the deep south. Or China in the summer. An older, African American man sitting by the river bank. He did not smile at me. I think he did not see me or maybe he was napping. I couldn't tell, I wore shades and he did too. I was whatsapping T and telling him that I don't mind the Midwest, I get why he and his friends liked to hang out at that German sports bar / restaurant on Clement in Inner Richmond. All of the midwesterners I know seem to live in the Avenues - Richmond. They are all either German or Irish descends or both, and I get why they are all so friendly and pleasant. I have worked in the midwest on occasion since the early 90s. "I get you guys" I tell T. Pretending all of sudden I'm a midwest expert. The river is beautiful. The path has been built for this city park. Said the San Jose woman who was from Kansas City. There are lots of improvements over the last few years. Said the woman's silver haired father, like this bridge look out. I told them that I like this metropolis. Lots of history. I tell T the weather is so warm and the housing so affordable I could see myself getting a place here. T texted me back, "Have you been there in January or February?" "Why?" I asked. "It gets cold." I can't imagine that. This park, the view to the two bridges over the water, the locks on the railing like you'd see in Paris, the blooming flowers, the ease of parking. It's all just quite lovely. I am glad this was the last stopping point before my return. read more

I like this park okay because it's got a view, but I'm eager to see what it can be. As of right now, it's A-OK but not a place I would seek out unless I lived super close. Supposedly there's a new dog park and cafe in the works down here, along with loads of River Market development that should only enhance it. I'm sure with more foot traffic it will become more of a go-to park than the way it is at the moment. Always good to have more running and bike spaces, and more parks and nature in general, but hope it steps up to elevate into a destination worthy space! read more

3.5 I'm giving this trail a round up to 4 stars because I am a sucker for a pretty view and this path gives you the best of both worlds: a view of the Missouri River on one side and a skyline view of Kansas City on the other. Also, I saw and heard a lot of beautiful birds who make their home in the preserved areas along the trail. As beautiful as it is along the river, it is fairly short depending on if you are a distance runner. The length of the paved trail along the river is 2-3 miles from end to end. Then you have to maneuver the streets downtown to continue on the trail. I am geographically challenged so I had to keep looking for the signs. As everyone points out, there are no restrooms. But you can get access to the restrooms and the City Market on Main Street if you gotta go. read more

A nice riverfront area, with various rocks and picnic tables, although no facilities. Although we were just there for a private picnic, we enjoyed it. The grass needed mowing and I worry about chiggers later this summer. I also have no idea where people park during the summer events! There were walkers, joggers, kids playing, lovers sitting on a rock eating pizza. The sidewalk was nice and wide for plenty of people. The traffic noise was annoying, but I suppose some people would get used to it. The view of the KC skyline was cool. read more

Berkley Park is a nice step for Kansas City to reclaim its long neglected riverfront. Although the park is somewhat isolated from the core of downtown and the River Market-- it is a well-maintained park space with scenic views of the Missouri River and parts of the skyline. There is a linear trail that follows the river which is good for biking, running, or just walking. There is a large portion of the park with is undeveloped land waiting for the right redevelopment opportunity. This park will really come into its own once more residents are added around it. read more

So I like this park. One of my favorite things to do is walk/bike from my place downtown to the river and I like to walk/bike the trail. Then sometimes I sit on the rocks a bit and watch the barges go up and down. It's pretty scenery and it's nice and relaxing. There is talk of building lofts down here and I can't wait. One, because it does feel a little isolated. As a single woman, I don't always feel completely safe. You do see some odd people about and I think developing this area better would make it safer. I come often in the early evening after work and there are people here and there riding their bikes and jogging so it's not terrible. But if you look at the photos attached to this location, you'll notice a solid lack of people in any of them. And that's the way it mostly is except for maybe a nice Saturday afternoon. It's a good walking/biking trail but I wouldn't really bring a group of friends or family here for any reason. I really hope that changes soon, though! read more

What a hidden gem in our fair city of Kansas City. This is a scenic park that is pretty decent size along the Missouri river. Great for walking, running, biking, skating, walking your dog, etc. We have biked here with our dog and had a blast. The trail will eventually lead up to a bridge where you can take an elevator or stairs up and then continue on over by the river market. It has few people here so crowding isn't a problem. Don't forget to bring your camera and your picnic lunch! read more

Yet another hidden gem of Kansas City. My favorite thing is the walking/bike trail. It's not very long, maybe a mile from bridge to bridge. But it's by the water (even if it's dirty... I like to put on my blue colored sunglasses and pretend I'm by a lovely waterway), peaceful and there aren't a ton of people around. I love to come here with the dog and go bike riding. I don't have to worry that he'll get run over by a car since the path is a couple hundred feet from the road, nor do I have to worry about him jumping on other people since it's so secluded. The main part of the path is about three quarters of a mile long but connects with the other section of the path that crosses under the train tracks and goes for another half mile to the Kansas Bridge. As you go along that side, it feels more nature-like with a mini marsh and a neat old abandoned building along the way. It's a pretty great river path, if you ask me. It's a great place to go running, biking or blading without having to worry about cars or hills. read more

This park gets four stars for what it is and what it is is an enormous park with riverfront views of the Kansas City skyline and complete coolness of Kansas City's bridges. What it is not is a practical place to take your family for more than a quick "jump out of the car and walk along the river kind of thing" because as it's been noted before and as you really should be aware, bring a camera because this park has beautiful views but snap the pictures and throw the frisbee around a few times and get back in the car because this place doesn't have any bathrooms. My guess is that bathrooms would encourage people to stay and that would create a loitering problem KC doesn't want to deal with. Special events are held here frequently (we went there for the July 4th celebration) and portable bathrooms are brought in as needed. It is a great enough space though that I hope the investment in bathrooms and park patrols are eventually deemed worth it. read more

What's the #1 thing I take away from Berkley Riverfront Park? Unrealized potential. This park is a HUGE expanse of lawn that lines the Missouri River. And that's pretty much it. It's fantastic for jogging, bike riding, or dog walking. I've ever flown a kite here, and worked on my tan a bit. It has excellent views of the aforementioned river and a wide variety of different styles of bridges. It's a perfectly pleasant spot. But really, it lacks any sort of amenities to make it a really functional park space. First of all. There are NO bathroom facilities. That automatically prevents a lot of people from coming. Also, in the huge amount of land this park takes up, I wish they'd dedicate some of it towards activity. Tennis courts, basketball courts or a small playground. Hell, you could put all three into this park and still have ample room for just grassy knolls. As of now, it's really only good for "hold your bladder" themed picnics. And those are rarely a hit. I'd love to see this park more active. For having virtually nothing there now, it still gets a solid amount of foot traffic. I truly believe it's a case of "if you build it, they will come." read more

Great, Great, Great! This park has beautiful views and a very comfortable vibe. I'm glad it is starting to get more use as a venue for concerts and other activities. While there aren't a ton of amenities yet, the location seems really customizable for any style event (probably pretty great for event planners). Plus, if you are someone that likes taking pictures of bridges, etc., this spot is fantastic - particularly at sunset. I really dig it! read more

I went for the fireworks show on the 4th, and the show was decent. Now the park, I could tell would be a great place to visit during the day. Right next to the river, you can walk right up to the water and relax. As others said, I saw no restrooms, but they had porta-potties (likely for events only). So be prepared. If you have kids, or just want to enjoy a nice day at the park, definitely check this out. read more

Great venue for pride fest. There are plenty of places to park so there isn't much of a hassle getting in and out.

Came here for a festival. Perfect place, nice green grass for the venue, yet drive for booths and food trucks so you didn't have to wade through grassy paths beaten down by festival attendees. The river was up, but that just added to the view. Seeing the city skyline and bridges from this park is a great view of the wonderful city, Kansas City, truly is. Easy to get too off Front Street, if you have trouble finding it, just put in Isle of Capri and it will get you to the Front street exit. There is a back way down Broadway you will discover on your way out. Walking paths were very nice to see, lots of bikers and joggers, pet owners using them. read more

Clean simple riverfront part with a one-mile sidewalk loop for joggers, strollers, etc. There some picnic tables and places for dog bags, but no enclosed dog park and no playground. read more
