WORST SCHOOL EVER. They try to get away with f*cking students over every single day. The worst education I've ever received and when you reach out to professors or head of department to express frustration they don't respond or blame you!!! BCC is the worst school in the state. The people in the financial aid department don't care about helping you they continually try to scam you into giving them money that you don't owe!! The disrespect is blatant and disturbing. I can't wait until the people in charge get a taste of karma. read more

Berkshire community college is one of the worst locations I've ever gone to school. The only saving grace are SOME of the professors. By far the worst thing at this school is it's financial aid department. Extremely rude, insanely incompetent. I was fresh out of high school. I barely even knew what a fasfa was. Instead of helping me or assisting me, they were rude, talked down to me and made me feel like an idiot. It's only years later did I learn they have a program to help people who don't know how to do the Fasfa. If only, I don't know, the financial aid department told me that. Beware when going here. I'd really try your luck at another community college or apply to a 4 year school and do it online. This school does not care about you, they simply want your money, nothing more. read more

I'm giving the Community College five stars because I'm in the middle of the only class I've ever taken there. The class is great. I don't spend much time there. But I've enjoyed my experience overall. read more

Berkshire Community College is a public, fully accredited, community college offering associate degree and certificate programs, as well as various other educational opportunities. BCC currently offers 36 associate degree and 19 certificate programs, including options and concentrations in education, liberal arts, fine and performing arts, computer science, health science, engineering technology, and allied health. The college boasts one of the highest graduation rates among the state's fifteen community colleges. BCC strives to place higher education within reach of all residents of Berkshire County and beyond, and is committed to access, academic excellence, student success, and community leadership. More than 30% of Berkshire County high school students get their start at BCC, and 92% of graduates reported they were employed part-time or full-time. BCC is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the academic honors society for students at two-year colleges. Berkshire Community College also offers cross-country, basketball, and soccer as club sports, and as part of the school's wellness initiative, offers free access to the fitness center and health classes to students and faculty. Other fitness activities include hikes and snowshoeing excursions.

History

Established in 1960.

Berkshire Community College was the first community college established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Today, there are 15 community colleges throughout the state. During its first 12 years, BCC was located in downtown Pittsfield in a former junior high school made available by the city. There, enrollment grew from 153 to 1,222 students. In 1972, the college moved to its present location occupying a magnificent 180-acre site four miles from the center of Pittsfield. Twelve years later, a satellite facility known as the South County Center opened in Great Barrington. in 2014, nearly 3,000 students enrolled in day or evening credit courses at the main campus, off-campus sites, and/or online. Additionally, more than 5,200 people enrolled in various noncredit and workforce development offerings.

Twice we saw girls look at the tour group and roll their eyes in disgust and while on tour there wasn't a single friendly hello from students walking around the campus. It's a shame because Marist has some great programs and was close enough for my son to come home once in a while. They say you can't make a second first impression and vibe from the current students we saw walking around just didn't make the place seem like the right fit. I'm 100% SURE this isn't the entire student body, but it is what it is. The search continues...

My main objective is to comment on college's housing crisis. There is severe shortage of on-campus…read morehousing. Students after freshman year are not guaranteed on-campus housing and therefore many students are faced with problems finding a place to live. The area surrounding campus is rural where housing supply is scarce, unaffordable and inconvenient. Bard is a residential college, however the percentage of its students living on-campus is much lower than other residential colleges. This issue has persisted for years! The administration has failed to address this crisis. I would not recommend enrolling there. The academics might be ok, but there will be no campus life whatsoever. Do not just take my word for it. Google it. Do your research.

Route 2 goes right into the middle of campus where you can see a delightful range of classic New England architectural styles in a rural setting with peaceful views of the surrounding mountains. First, the mid-morning information session was well-organized with a senior associate director (who was a Williams alumna) and rising sophomore from Seattle. Second, we did the 45 minute walking campus tour with a junior from Philadelphia who was refreshingly honest about her experiences. In contrast to Amherst College (which we visited the day before), Williams had a more organized and polished information session. One could see personal and specific examples of various Williams alumni being proactive in helping current students. Finally, the campus did not impose a KN-95 mask requirement. Overall, it's a lovely campus that is worth a stop if you're in this neck of the woods in the northern Berkshires!
