She saw us promptly, listened patiently (no pun intended :) and did a thorough examination, explained her diagnosis & answered all questions. She focused all her attention on the patient; excellent bedside manner! Following the treatment showed excellent results in very short time; something the previous doctor had missed. Another big plus was the ease of getting an appointment at the clinic! I recently visited Berman Skin Institute in Pleasanton. While the nursing staff was kind and professional, I left feeling deeply disappointed with my consultation with Phuong Thi Du Nguyen, PA-C. I was previously under the excellent care of Dr. Cinque, who unfortunately has retired. I came with two concerns -- increasing my Minoxidil dosage, and receiving proper guidance on managing my aging skin and safely using retinoids, given my history of irritation. PA-C Nguyen conducted the entire consultation from a distance -- never approaching, examining, or physically assessing my face in any way. She immediately dismissed my previous doctor's low dose minoxidil treatment approach and increased my Minoxidil dosage, which was fine. The moment I began explaining my concerns, she briefly listened, said "use sunscreen," then immediately stood up and instructed her assistant to give me samples -- before I could even ask about basic skincare steps. She left the room without saying goodbye. Most concerning -- after I submitted written feedback describing the inadequate consultation, they sent a Tretinoin prescription to my pharmacy without my knowledge or consent. I never requested this medication. Prescribing a potent retinoid without proper examination, patient history review, or usage guidance -- especially AFTER a patient has formally complained -- is not only unprofessional but potentially harmful to skin health. Horrible, and unprofessional! I went there for a consultation. I asked them on the phone multiple times if they can address my skin concerns and they assured me they can. When I go there the medical assistant comes in and says oh I'm sorry the nurse doesn't want to waste her time we cant treat you for this. I arrived for my scheduled tattoo removal appointment only to be told after checking in that the machine was out of service. I was never notified beforehand, which wasted my time and could have easily been communicated in advance. Additionally, this business advertises PicoSure tattoo removal, but once I was there I was informed they are using a completely different method. That is misleading and feels like false advertising, especially for something as specific and technical as tattoo removal. To make matters worse, I was charged $50 for a "consultation", despite being an existing patient, and despite the fact that I will not be moving forward with treatment due to the above issues. The worst ! I went to see a dermatologist for alopecia. She couldn't wait to get out of the consultation room and there were 0 other patients waiting - absolutely zip, zilch, nada. She had to ask the Drs assistant for get answers for my basic Questions. No examination of the scalp was done before a canned set of treatment options were thrown at me. Of course they promptly brought out the price sheet ! If the doctor was bad, the front office is worse. 3 weeks after the appointment I'm still waiting for them to get insurance approval so pharmacy can dispense a simple medicine . When asked, The front office lady was like " I'll do it if I have time, don't harbor too much hope I'll do it within this lifetime" And when I call the office and press the extension for prescription, it goes to voicemail. I would not recommend this place to any future patients. I've never felt so rushed as a patient and I did not feel like my concerns were being listened to. In addition to that, their deductible policy is absurd (see attached photo). I had a surgery done here. For all procedures and surgeries I've had in my life, they have all provided me with proper information pre and post procedure, whether it be through a handout or a consultation. This institution is poorly lacking in patient education. It is so difficult to reach the doctors via the patient portal and get answers in a timely manner. After my procedure, they didn't send the prescription to the pharmacy until I followed up again several hours later. I've been seeing Dr. Cinque on and off for several years over various derm concerns; she's been such a fantastic doctor that I keep coming back to the Pleasanton office, even when I've moved all over the bay area. Out of several doctors I saw, she was able to identify a fragrance allergy that was causing dishydrosis and prescribed medications that effectively treated my psoriasis. I appreciate the wealth of knowledge and actual care that she provides as a doctor. Their offices boast quick appointments, unlike other specialists-- I've never had an issue booking appointments within a week. They even accept my insurance. Clinic is clean and quiet. My main issue is with their portal, MyPatientVisit. Several problems: - You have to register separately, on your own, in order to even use it in the first place. I didn't create an account for several years; who knows how many messages I lost in that void - Difficult to navigate; horrible UI. Wayyyyy more dated than other clinics I've been to - Limited functionality, can't upload complex documents/insurance situations; better to handle these in person - Their messenger is run by rather incompetent third party. WHO schedules BEFORE confirming with the patient that they can make it??? TWICE where I've request an earlier appointment over the patient portal, the admin schedules for the next day, in the MIDDLE of the day, without confirming with me over a call or email or anything. Today, I messaged them back with several hours notice to cancel the appointment, but later in the afternoon I receive a call from the office that I missed my appointment (it was never canceled). I learned from the front desk that the online portal is run by a third party and there is no formal way to submit feedback. I finally sent feedback directly to the admin, only to be met with a bit of attitude (attached below). While I understand the benefits of using scheduling blocks as placeholders, the time is wasted on both the provider's and patient's time if it's never communicated as a placeholder in the first place. I would expect timely communication at least. On top of that, they basically ignore any other questions outside of scheduling. You have to go in-office to get any questions answered. The doctors are good but the staff at the reception and the Medical Assistants are not able to coordinate and/or follow up with doctor's notes and instructions. In the office you can see them disconnected to each others, all what they care about is billing! The phone number posted on their website for Pleasanton office will never answer, if you are lucky it will go to a kind of call center or dispatcher that will send messages to the office to call you back. I had laser hair removal done on my lip, chin, and underarms by Suzanna. Suzanna is great. She is very experienced and makes sure that you get the best and safe results. Before laser hair removal, the hair on my chin was getting so thick and tough that it was resistant to coming out when I waxed it. I ended up having to pluck hairs out every morning before work, and I was having problems with in-grown hairs. My face never felt or looked smooth. I bought the package of 5 sessions for my lip and chin, and it was one of the best investments in myself I have made. I no longer have to worry about waxing, plucking, and in-grown hairs. My face is the smoothest it's ever been. See attached pictures. They occasionally have 40% off sales, so I took advantage of that to buy another 5 sessions for my lip and chin (there were a few stragglers that would grow back, but VERY thin compared to before.) I've suffered from acne since my teen years. I don't always get a lot of breakouts but I guess the hormonal changes I'm going through as I age decided to bring back this pesky skin problem. The worst part is that they were cystic instead of your average-sized zits, so not only did they look ugly they were also quite painful. I prefer a more natural look because wearing makeup daily would've only exacerbated the problem, but when I had to go to family parties, gatherings, school events, etc. I was hiding under lots of foundation and concealer. Out of desperation I sought help through my PCP, who gave me prescription topical meds. I used them with my skincare regimen religiously for a few months but didn't see any improvements. She then added oral meds to my prescriptions, and even though I stuck with my new daily skincare regimen for another few months I only saw a little improvement. Then one day when I went to a friend's baby shower she told me that she'd recently started going to Berman Skin Institute. I was in awe of how great her skin looked... I mean it was just so smooth and glowing. It looked very healthy as opposed to mine that I was hiding under makeup. She referred me to make an appointment with Mimi Jacoby, whom she highly recommended. So, I did just that and 10 months later I'm actually close to having the skin I've always wanted. The problem with simply using the topical meds that my PCP prescribed is that my face was so congested with all the gunk from acne and blackheads that they couldn't penetrate the skin do their job. Adding oral meds wasn't doing the job either, so I started with just getting medical facials, but heard about how well hydrafacials have helped clear out the skin of people with similar problems. After consulting with Mimi, she agreed that doing hydrafacials instead will definitely give me the results I'm looking for at a faster rate. A couple of sessions later I was so impressed that I started bringing in my teenage son, who had a really bad acne problem. His doctor also prescribed oral and topical prescription meds, and I've been bringing him to see Mimi on a monthly basis for the past 6 months or so. His skin has greatly improved as well and because his acne was a lot more severe than mine I plan on making his monthly appts for as long as it takes to see an improvement the way I did. He's no longer breaking out as badly as before, so I know continuing his monthly hydrafacials will help really unclog and eventually minimize his enlarged pores. Mimi Jacoby is one of the most professional and nicest licensed aestheticians you'll ever meet. She's extremely knowledgeable about proper skincare routines, products, and procedures and will recommend the regimen that best suits you based on your current skin condition and desired results. I'm extremely grateful for my friend that referred me to her because not only is she wonderful, Berman Skincare Institute is just as amazing. They offer a lot of different services for your overall skincare needs and have a line of products to use along with your daily regimen. I've been to their Walnut Creek and Pleasanton offices since Mimi works at both locations. But we've actually been going to Pleasanton for our monthly appointments because weekends are the best for my son and I. So, if you're looking for quality skincare services, visit them at Pleasanton and definitely book an appointment with Mimi Jacoby if you need to see an aesthetician. My son and I are continuously seeing improvements after each hydrafacial appointment, and our progressing results are more than enough proof that they are worth the drive and every penny! read more

On the following day, I called them back AGAIN [24 hours later] to let them know I still had not received a call back and explain what my experience was. I spoke with the office manager and let her know. My time, just like theirs, is valuable. Good luck. With that lack of customer service you will need it to keep your reputation spotless. So this is my second review. The incompetence at this business is astounding. 3 months after my prior appointment I have gone back for a follow up. Again a huge ordeal to get my prescription refilled. When I was in the office I said please make sure sure that all 3 prescriptions are faxed the pharmacy x. She said ok. So the first prescription I received. The pharmacy said they didn't get the other 2. So I called BSI again. They have an answering service so there is no way you can get directly to someone who can actually help. Anyway about 3 calls in, I finally get the 2nd prescription filled but faxed to the wrong pharmacy. 6 calls in and into week 2, still no 3rd prescription. Tried to schedule a same day, and called to book my appointment in the morning at 8:15. (Office opens at 8). When nobody answered after multiple attempts I booked online. After driving 30 minutes to this location I was refused by the front office for my scheduled appointment. Reason being, that I had traveled within the last week to get married. While I understand the scientific reason for this my gripe is with the fact that this wasn't conveyed when I booked my appointment... I have no symptoms and was allowed admission to the hospital because of this. There was also no information as to where the office was located so I had to call again to find out where to go. Lastly, they asked me to fill out my new patient information online but didn't have my info or insurance cards up to date on arrival. When they said that I couldn't come in they offered me an online appointment, which was not possible as I needed a procedure done.... TLDR: don't book online, call to confirm, but realistically it's better to go somewhere else that's more customer oriented. read more

I'm currently getting a bit of laser hair removal and IPL from Suzanna Dean in the Pleasanton location and I've had excellent results. She's been incredibly informative, kind when I'm needing a breather from the discomfort and just a cool human to hang out with while getting hair zapped from my dermis. My first appointment with her was at the Walnut Creek location just before she was switching offices and have followed her to Pleasanton, despite the extra travel time because she's so great. The front office staff are helpful and efficient. I look forward to seeing them which is a change from other medical practices I've used. Almost everyone I've interacted with at any of the locations I've been to seem like they like what they do and are happy. Kudos to Dr. Berman for building a great team and practice. read more
