I told him that I wasn't able to make it then, and he responded that it was fine and he would see me at 1. I drove 30 minutes to meet Alex at our agreed upon time, and waited 15 minutes waiting for him to show up. He didn't, so I texted him again to see what his eta was. He then informed he wasn't coming, and had an emergency to take care of. Given the prior conversation with him, I'm not entirely convinced of this "emergency ", especially because he still offered to come in the morning the following day. Had he called me when he knew he wouldn't be able to make it, I might be more forgiving, but he wasted my time.

I first met Humberto when I opened a Yelp project ticket in January. He was not only quick to respond, (he came over within an hour, on a Sunday), he also was transparent in his pricing and had great suggestions. I could tell he knew a lot about gardening. Humberto and Alejandro came in January for the first visit, and as was right for the season, they pruned all of the bushes, weeded the mulch and stone areas, and mowed the lawn. I liked them so much that first visit we made a plan for the next visit in the spring, which happened today! Humberto brought just the stone I wanted (he knew it by name when he saw it the first time), to refresh the old stone and also brought the mulch that we had talked about- both in the perfect quantity. Today they also mowed and fertilized the grass (the right time of year for that now), cleaned up all of my pots, put new plants in huge heavy ceramic pots, replanted some outlier succulents from the stone area, and did a thoughtful cleanup all around. He advised me about "sunny plants" and "shady plants" too, which was very useful. The yard is beaming with Springtime! Humberto is busy for a good reason, so plan for that, but a shiny well thought out garden is a joy.

He's great with communication, and his estimate was right on point. I had some drainage work done at my house which trashed my entire irrigation system, so I needed to have it replaced, both in the front and back yard. The McKay crew did a bang up job of it. They came in on time and on budget. They had the whole system laid out and running within about two days. Then Sherman spent some time with me to make sure I knew how to operate the controllers. In fact, they do more than irrigation, and I will likely have them come back and put in some new plants and do some other work in my backyard. They did such a good job with the irrigation system that I have high confidence they will make quick work of the other jobs too. I strongly recommend them.

We gave him a general idea of what we were looking for. He came back with a rough sketch of what we were looking for, and an estimate within our budget that included hardscaping *and* landscaping, along with irrigation and a contingency budget. (Lots of contractors we spoke to did landscaping or hardscaping, but not both; and none came with design ideas.) As demolition was ending, Monica came back with more specific designs, including for our deck and specific pollinator-friendly and low-water plants. The design discussion was collaborative and she took into account that the yard would be used by dogs and kids (thus plants needed to withstand less-than-mindful foot traffic). The crew were always on time and left the site (and our garage) cleaner than they found it. Thank you to Rob, Monica, Ryan, Mick, Oscar, and Keith for a fabulous job! As you'll see from before pics, the concrete deck was uneven, small, and the yard was a weedy sand pit. Imagine waking up Sunday and seeing a mini water fountain continuously spray water all over your…read morefence and concrete, and hitting the neighbor's yard too. The sprinkler control panel did bot shut down the faulty sprinkler, so its likely a mechanical issue with the control valves in the backyard that failed open. I have no idea how to DIY this so I was lucky to find Ostwald. Yep, they are a 24/7 company and were able to comr out same day in a few hours. Darvin and his helper replaced my entire sprinkler control valve system, faulty sprinkler heads, and did some excavation to fix some leaky pipes. About 3 hours total - not a straightforward job since it also involved wiring and some backyard plumbing. I have an older house so they actually had to shutoff water to the house for a few hours. Not sure why the sprinkler system does not have a separate isolation valve. Maybe it does but its not obvious. Definitely recommend Ostwald Sprinkler Repair for quick turnarounds and responsive service, even on Sundays when most other sprinkler repair companies are closed.
