I started the call by trying to be respectful of his time. I asked if it was a good time to speak and explained that the situation was a bit complicated. His first response was that he's been doing this for 20+ years and that "no case is too convoluted," which sounded confident enough, so I began explaining. Right off the bat he repeatedly interrupted me and seemed to assume what I was asking for before I even had a chance to explain the actual charges or what I needed help with. At one point after being interrupted multiple times I politely clarified that I thought he was assuming I was calling about restoring firearm rights, which was not the purpose of my call. I was never rude, never raised my voice, and genuinely tried to explain the facts as clearly and concisely as I could. After cutting me off multiple times, he told me he was not interested in the case, said he had been doing this for over 20 years and was picky about the cases he takes. Fair enough - every attorney has that right. But then he said, "You and I don't have chemistry. You frustrate the hell out of me. Have a good day," and hung up on me. I was honestly stunned. I have spoken with many attorneys over the years in different contexts - civil, criminal, family, and professional matters - and I understand that attorneys are busy and that their time matters. That is exactly why I opened the call the way I did. I am also a professional myself and have spent years working as a consultant taking intake calls, consultation calls, and calls from prospective clients.
