Looking for the best pizza in town? Look no further. We had a fairly large group that they were able to accommodate despite being fully booked that evening. Our waiter was super nice and kept our drinks refilled without asking. Our order came out fairly quickly. The pizzas and cheesy bread were delicious, as always! Pizza here is always consistently good. I never have to worry about how the pizza will be. They also have a few slots machines if you feel like trying your luck while waiting on your order. Bernie and Betty's is a staple in the field and for good reason. Whoever gives this place anything less than a 4/5 had a lapse in judgement and had a one off experience. We ordered: Jalapeño Poppers 8/10 Potato Skins 6.5/10 (didn't have a whole lot of flavor) Pepperoni Thin Crust 8/10 Sausage & Bacon Sourdough 8/10 All meats sourdough 9/10 (my personal pizza) First off allow me to preface that our waitress was super nice. Never caught her name but she was lovely and very attentive! Second, we didn't come to try appetizers but we had just finished a workout and hadn't ate all day so we wanted some extra calories. The decor: very tavern style, intimate with tables close to each other, a bar area, a gaming area, and a private room. The appetizers: A very run of the mill appetizer set up for a pizza place, we ended up snagging some jalapeño poppers which were good we enjoyed them we also grabbed up some potato skins as a random pick. The potato skins are definitely missing a few things, namely any flavor. We wanted to finish them but we decided on not and having one of my friends take it home. Might need a little salt and pepper! The main grub: It's not my first time eating B&B's but it was one of the best times for sure. I don't know if it was the fact that I've only done take out or what but whoever cooked this today was crazy good. And we all agreed our food was above average. If not great. Friday night in Lent and not in the mood for a fish fry? We tried the ultra cheese pizza on sourdough crust, and it was amazing. The cheeses had a hint of sweetness that contrasted well with the tang of the crust, and you'll want the thicker crust to support the weight of the cheeses. This place is practically famous around here. I'm not sure if it was because of that reputation, but we were let down. I'd 100% skip the thin crust. I love the idea of sourdough crust and I love a thicker crust so that was good! It had a good amount of cheese too. None of us cared for the sauce. It had a more acidic, thinner, fermented taste. Neither pizza had slices fully cut which was a pain when grabbing them. The potato skins were okay. Overall decent prices. Really cute place (on the outside at least). I like to preorder my pizza when I go there for lunch. I've done this 3-4 times now and every time the pizza is ready just a couple of minutes after we arrive. This is especially helpful since I don't want to take too much time for lunch. The pizza here is pretty good and the service is super. The most disgusting behavior by staff that I've seen in a long time especially considering Covid is still present. Multiple staff coughing and not washing their hands. I really wanted to like this pizza. The staff were friendly and helpful on the phone. It's a local shop. There were a lot of good reviews. And they have sourdough crust, which looked really tasty! Unfortunately I don't want to buy a pizza here again. The crust was very undercooked and still doughy. The dough had been poorly tossed and was very thick in places and very thin in others--almost too thick to eat! Toppings were tasty (excellent pepperoni and spicy sauce) but there weren't enough to balance out the really heavy crust. We're going to buy more cheese and bake the leftovers to try and get decent pizza and not have wasted our money. After just a single slice I had a heavy, nauseated pit in my stomach from the dough. At the moment, I feel like I wasted my money. Marco's is more reliable, tasty, and affordable. read more

I love Bernie and Betty's. It's ultra thin crust pizza, done right. It's not fancy, but the crust is done such that its both crispy and chewy in just the right way, with the light dusting of flour and cornmeal to keep it from sticking to the classic ovens, enriching the flavors. This place has been around and gone through several ownerships the last 40 years. It's now very close to the original recipes for the thin crust. The toppings are good the cheese is just enough for the crust to not be over wet during the bake. Seems like quality ingredients to me, and I have no complaints other than I can't wait for fresh mushrooms to finally be standard offering. I would add them if so. Drive through take out window was installed at some point in the 90's? I think, and the interior bar is classic old Springfield. Building ought to be historic if it isn't. There's some gaming machines inside if that's your thing tucked way back and out of the way for the rest of the diners. That's done very well for everyone. Prices are fantastic too. Try some other options like the Italian beef or a pasta dish. Don't be afraid to ask questions about the menu and find out if they can accommodate your dietary needs. This was a very interesting experience when I stopped in with my Dad last Friday. The entire place was empty besides one gentleman playing on the slot machines! It was a Friday at 1, a bit past the lunch crowd but we were still shocked. Ironically enough, the lack of diners (usually a bad sign) did not matter in the least. We ordered identical meals; meatballs and salads. The food arrived in a timely manner, our waitress was on point and the food was outstanding. There was a day that Bernie & Betty's ranked high, I grew up in that area and Gab's and B&B's were awesome. Having not been there for a long time and my wife was there having "girl's night out " last night I asked her to get a pizza to go and I awaited for the pizza I haven't had in years. In the end all I can say is " it was the worst pizza I have ever had, no flavor and very, very little toppings, where as back in the day it would cover the pizza. What a wonderful local restaurant! I called and ordered a take-out order since we are sheltered in place with Coronavirus order from the governor. The ordering process was quick and efficient. My husband picked up and the order which was ready in 15 minutes. We enjoyed the appetizer basket, a pasta/seafood salad and pork tenderloin sandwiches! Everything was fresh and delicious!
