My mom clarified that she wasn't calling to make demands, but simply to report that we had all eaten the same meal at their restaurant and felt ill with similar symptoms shortly afterward. The manager said she would notify the kitchen, hoped we felt better -- and that was it. To add context, my mom and sister have both regularly ordered that same salad from this location in the past without any issues. We understand that illness can happen for many different reasons, and we weren't expecting the restaurant to accept fault without first conducting a proper review. Even so, we had hoped for a response at the outset of the call that reflected care and concern -- one that acknowledged the situation, prioritized guest well-being, and reassured us that it would be taken seriously. While the manager did eventually say she would inform the kitchen, that only came after my mom made it clear she wasn't asking for anything, like a comped meal.
