It is the place where you go for your Asian pantry staples: mung, bean or yam noodles, fish, sauces, rice, paper, wraps, etc. Head over to pick up pre-portioned cuts of Japanese pumpkin, which are great for roasting, slicing for tempura, or putting in a great bowl of . You can get away with spending $10 or several hundred, depending on how enticed you are by the well stocked, dry goods shelves. Expect to pay a premium on organics if you can find them. Needed some Asian ingredients; when i remembered this place. Their selection is impressive and the prices are very reasonable. They also have a good selection of fish. There's the usual and some that aren't, monkfish is one of them. There's a Latin section in the middle of the store. Dried corn husks, Chili's, sauces, and chocolate. They make the sushi and sashimi there, so you know it's fresh and you can request ones that aren't in the case and done the traditional way with the nori on the outside, where it belongs. read more

Though not as stocked as the many Asian groceries I'm used to from living in Albany, Hopewell Farm is the number one place in the area for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean groceries...simply because it's the only one in the area. That's not a bad thing-- Hopewell Farm's prices are very affordable (especially the seafood and vegetables) and they sell a wide variety of products. I just wish they had MORE ethnic food instead of Americanized things. read more

I've been shopping here on and off for a decade and a half. It's changed hands at least once (and lost quite a bit of expertise, in my opinion) but remains a great resource in the town and even the region. The fresh veggies and fruit for sale has been diminished in both quality and selection (compared to say Adams or the old Hopewell Farms in this location) since the sale, but still remains a great value. Notice I said value. I grew up selling produce, so I learned all about it. Worked for a fish monger one summer as well. I would compare this place to an actuyal farmers market in this way; lesser selection (typically what's 'in season' at Hunts Point from the looks of it) but better quality in general. ALSO like a market, it's really 'buyer beware' here. If you do not understand HOW TO PICK FRUIT AND PRODUCE you likely will not be happy here. Knowing what to buy, and what to pass up (and WHEN) goes a long way here to being satisfied. In a recent visit I picked up blueberries (from New Jersey, in local season and very fresh) for $1 per pint. That was HALF what it was at Adams. (One note here; Adams has the LOCK on local apples, nobody else carries the variety, quality or has a better price.) On another there was a great deal on broccoli, but the berries were out of season. If you know how to shop like a chef (local and in season) you will LOVE this place! Now the sushi; Some of the absolute BEST VALUE in the region. I live over an hour away, and yet whenever I am anywhere close to Berry's I stop and get sushi. The chef has been here from almost the beginning, he is a very nice person (with a memory for faces, do not be surprised if he remembers you and what you ordered in the past) and very good at his craft. He does not know this, but I have had several sushi chef friends over the years, one that gave me basic instruction on sushi making and fish in general, so I do not say any of this lightly. The sushi is fresh, done well and very fairly priced. Not a huge selection, and not a lot of fancy kanoodling, but a simple joy for an occasional lunch. Oh, he caters too. This year we are beginning a family tradition of ordering sushi when we all get together AFTER Christmas, and we will use this sushi chef we all decided on. Their Asian foods (and now some Latin foods) are poor in selection and serve as an 'oh I forgot that!' destination, NOT a 'stock up on all the Asian foods you need' place. To be frank, as much as I prefer to do business locally, I either make the trip to Queens (once or twice a year) or order from Amazon now. Awesome cheap assortment of veggies and fruits, as well as packaged already-sliced fruits and veggies. I love getting their packaged sliced seedless watermelon. Four nice slices is like $2. Nice healthy snack. They also have awesome sushi. You can order sushi to go in the way that you want as well, for a good price. I always get it with brown rice. Today I got a rainbow roll (crab and assortment of fish) for $8.95 and a Jenny roll (salmon, tuna, avocado) for $5.95, both with brown rice. I posted some pictures for you to see. Tastes nice and fresh. Good deal and quick service from the sushi chef. They also have some cool unusual drinks, like sparkling watermelon juice and rose lemonade with ginger. These Asian markets always have unique stuff. You can't do all your supermarket shopping here, but for the stuff I mentioned, it's worth it. I WISH they had more organic veggies and fruits. When I first walked into Hopewell Farm, I fell in love. An entire store full of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh fish, fresh breads, a deli, a section for organic goods, AND a sushi bar?? You had me at grand opening. This midsized grocery store also distinguishes itself from the rest with a wall of teas, british imports of chocolate and biscuits, and a large variety of Asian groceries. The prices are ridunc - as in, so cheap, you feel like you're stealing from someone. And in this economy, cheap + fresh = sweeeet. Fortunately/unfortunately, words gotten out and with only 3 cash registers and a multitude of shoppers, the checkout line (yes singular; its THAT small) bisects the store and can be oh-so-long and not just slightly inconvenient. Unimpressed with this place. I was intrigued by the outside but once inside, floors are dirty, produce turns bad within a day of purchase and seafood counter reeks of bad fishy-smell and bleach. Right in the cute little heart of Hopewell Junction, the Farm is a treat for the errand running cook. There is a huge display of exotic and home-grown fruits and veggies (I love me some Ugly Fruit) as well as the freshest seafood counter in the area. The deli has cheap Boar's Head meats and cheeses, not to mention a pretty good knish. As small as the Hopewell Farm is, they also manage to have a sushi counter (!!) with, in my humble opinion, the best sushi in the county. Yeah, that's right, at a little sushi counter at your local market. There are pre-made lunch time packages, as well as specials and, of course, the you-name-it-he-'ll-roll-it method applies here. Absolute hands down good, fresh sushi. With prices so cheap compared to the city, I am tempted to ditch Manhattan and come crawling back upstate where I can feast on sashimi and knishes all day with the cashiers. Hopewell Farm...or Golden Mango, as the cool kids call it, is a decent little grocery store in the old Grand Union space in Hopewell Junction. I go there about once a week to get most of my produce and occasionally meats. As others have said, check the produce carefully (I mean, you always should, regardless). MOST of the time everything is fresh but I have found some "meh" worthy foods once I brought them home and ate them. They have a nice variety of fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and other items like rice, sauces, marinades, etc. including regular kitchen staples. There is a full service deli, as well. They also have a lovely flower selection. The prices are great and much better than the A&P across the street. The staff are nice and helpful. One of the downsides, however, is the horrible radio station they play in there, LOUDLY. K-104 or some crap like that. It's painful. They play that Britney Spears "Toxic" song a lot...which is possibly the worst song EVER recorded. The other downside is that their fish section tends to get so stinky where you can smell it as soon as you walk in. Kind of a turn off. Overall, Hopewell Farm is a good place to stop into for good fresh produce and quick grocery shopping. Just be prepared to plug your nose and ears. read more

I was just in berrys market and two people behind the deli counter without masks. One was actually eating behind deli counter and other was an employee . Not even a mask around her head or on her person. When I confronted them they said they dont have to wear a mask. She called me a jerk. And I left. It's a place to get hard to find ethnic ingredients. I've purchased Asian snacks and spices here. It comes at a slightly increased price than their NYC counterparts. They also have Asian veggies and fruit, which are not the best of quality and also elevated in price, but you would be hard pressed to find these goods anywhere else in the local area. The seafood here is extremely unfresh; to the point of near rancid. I had purchased shark, conch (Scungilli), and other seafood. I always prepare them the same day, however the tastes and smells are always on the verge of past due. So I recommend you do not purchase seafood from here. Plenty of parking, and uniqueness of ingredients are the only real reasons for my 3-star rating. If another such establishment option opens, I'd probably downgrade this rating since I think they can do much better. read more

They have the most reasonably priced produce around in three or four counties. You need to be careful picking out what they sell but you can get excellent value here. I love Hopewell Farm! Bar-none the best fish available in the area, as fresh as it gets. Try the red snapper and wild Alaskan salmon, always delicious. I also enjoy the sushi/sashimi bar. Great prices on fruits and vegetables, keep an eye however, as certain exotic fruits can sometimes be iffy. There is also a great variety of ethnic Asian items, and a nice variety of Italian items at the deli. Boar's Head coldcuts can be had for great prices, best in town. read more

Most of their produce is frozen before it goes on the floor for sale. Therefore when you get it home it only lasts for about a day. Tomatoes,cucumbers,lettuce doesn't last and You end up throwing it away. A waste of money. I don't even know why I give them 2 stars. I must be feeling generous. read more

Usually I am pleased with this store, but today I was completely grossed out . We went to get blueberries, but when I went to look through them, almost all of them had some fuzzy mold on them. I told the cashier that at least 75% of the blueberries were moldy, she said gross, told the owner/manager The manager then went over to the blueberry pints, started opening up each container, picking out the moldy ones and then closing the package back up and putting them back on the shelf ! The cashier and I each looked at each other very grossed out . I walked out of the store. P.S. Raspberries and the melons ....... also had fuzzy mold on them. read more

This little grocery store is a great find for up in the Hudson Valley if you need your Asian food ingredients and don't want to go down into the city and all that hassle. They have a nice selection of dry noodles, and a couple of fresh choices in their freezer. That freezer is chocked full of Asian foods such as dim sum, and cakes typical of Chinatown shops. The condiments are great and there are all types of soy sauce, hoisin, and more not to mention their very nice looking fresh veggies isle. They have some ethnic favorites, and regular stuff you'd find anywhere but it's all pretty reasonably priced. They also have a fresh fish market way in the back corner as well as a butcher counter (a bit less impressive to me, but that's just me!) In fact, I am going out to that shop now in search of the shirataki noodles I find too expensive in the grocery store. read more

Good place to find exotic fruits and bargain prices on fresh fruits and veggies. I love finding good mangoes, fresh figs, guavas, fresh dates, and if I get lucky, mamey, when they're in season. The produce is usually hit or miss with the freshness. But I still like coming here weekly to see what good deals I can find on produce before I hit up the rest of my grocery shopping. This is always my first stop when going grocery shopping in hopewell! Great produce prices and variety. While the veggies aren't always the freshest, the prices make it worth it. They've also got a great selection of Asian and Mexican ingredients. For American/non-ethnic shelf items, the variety is a bit lacking but they do have the basics. read more

As others have said, this place is like walking into one of the small Asian grocery stores in the city. My favorite is that they actually carry fresh watercress!! Plus they have other ethnic produce that's hard to find elsewhere in the area. Never used the deli or fish/meat market, and I never shop sushi unless its prepared fresh right in front of me. Their frozen foods have many items you can only find in NYC! I also enjoy that they have pre-sliced, pre-packaged paks of peppers, mushrooms, or melons, and asst other fruit for really CHEAP prices. But a big turn off is that they DO NOT PUT ON THE HEAT. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE is freezing while shopping. And yes, it does get pretty crowded in there sometimes. read more

This market sells fresh vegetables, has a deli counter, and fresh fish. We do go there for the vegetables, but have since stopped going to the deli part. After buying some cheese, both my wife and I noticed the same musty smell coming from all the different cheeses we purchased. Yuk. That was it. No more deli. I just love shopping here. It has almost replaced my need to go to a supermarket so what I can't get here I supplement with trips to Ocean State Job Lot and Nature's Pantry (both in Fishkill about 10 mins away). This is the place to go if you're vegetarian or vegan as they have a lot of produce including harder-to-find chinese vegetables, loose mushrooms, and a great range of fresh herbs in manageable sized bunches. They also have a great selection of pre-cut fruit and veg. I find this helpful when I don't want to buy a whole papaya or if you want cabbage and carrots pre-cut for coleslaw. Stuff here is fresh and most of it can be bought loose which is something that is becoming increasingly difficult to do in supermarkets. I love their selection of Goya brand food, as well as their Asian foods including Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Malaysian. I find the prices to be extremely good even for the asian specialty items. A six pack of Soba Noodles for under $3 - deal. You can also get cooking wine here - both italian and chinese - which I always seem to need. They take credit cards and are just fine with me bringing my own bags including my own produce bags. My only complaint - it is absolutely freezing in there! Don't take off your jacket. read more

I lived in Putnam County for 18 years. I shopped in the local markets for basic grocery but went to Fairway for my fresh vegetables, Zabras for smoked salmon and coffee and Citerella's for fish. Now I shop at the Hopewell farm. The variety of fish they carry is not as large as Citerella's but they have a good selection of fresh fish and great service at the fish counter. I bought fresh sardines yesterday, it was delicious... very fresh. They carry a large selection of fresh fruit including tropical fruit. I don't buy much fruit since we grow our own. I do buy pineapples, mangos and banana. It is a great market for diverse group. Asian, Middle Eastern, Caribbean food is readily available. Shitake mushrooms repacked are the only thing I don't like. May be there is not much turnover so they have limited amount of shitake mushrooms. I like to hand pick my mushrooms. I also wish they had fresh lemon grass. They occasionally carry it but since there is no demand for it, it dries out quickly. Overall I think it is a very good market and cheaper than the local grocery store. It is definitely worth the trek. read more

I go there a lot because it's close to where I live, and the prices are good. The selection of fresh fruit and vegetable is also nice, but be careful; sometimes the produce is overripe or slightly blemished. The deli is good and also very reasonably priced. Another positive is that you can find almost anything there (food items). They also have fresh and prepacked sushi that I recommend. In the winter, it's pretty cold in there (I guess it helps them save money), which you see reflected in their prices. read more

Finally - someplace that has beautifully fresh seafood (weekends) and some you can't find elsewhere. They keep the fish super fresh and clean. The premade sushi is as good as I've found in dutchess county (and I'm used to NYC, Westchester and Tokyo sushi). Usually good meat too including things you can't find elsewhere - goat anyone? potatoes are fresh and firm, several types of sweet potatoes and yams (they ARE different) and most of the green veggies are very fresh; fruits can be a bit old and need to be checked. My wife and I shop at this market twice a week on average since it opened. Do not under any circumstances buy any produce that gets sprayed with their water misters above the produce as they are always full of sick black mold. Their produce under these water misters will get you very sick. as this mold is sprayed directly on the produce below. I warned them once to clean it and they did but sure enough as the days went on and the months passed by they would not clean them and thus were full of black mold. I recently reported them to the N.Y State Health Department hoping that a fine and a visit will make them keep their place clean. Stay away from this market and buy your produce from another store that keeps up with N.Y State guidelines. read more
