I know what diagnostics looks like. Good diagnostics should and can be a thing with PCPs, but my experience in VA has challenged that. I've seen Haroon on and off for a few years, and when I first saw him he was quite checked out. Spent most of his time quietly on his laptop during his consult with me. I don't think totally ignoring me, but not actively diagnosing me. Like every other doctor in VA, his first move is almost always a consult, run labs, then a follow-up. This diagnosis comes after the lab model results in wasted time, not exclusive to Dr. Rashid. In one instance, I came to the Dr. with an issue that is verifiable via a quick physical check, and he did not do that, ignoring what I had told him/the patient. Again, I find this not exclusive to Dr. Rashid in the VA medical community. When I came back after labs, i had to tell him to check me twice, he finally did, and I was properly diagnosed with exactly what I had told him was the issue the first time. To be clear, this is the kind of physical check that's very basic, been around hundreds of years, that anyone can do, but a doctor is trained in and when they diagnose you they can well... do doctor things like send you to the proper specialist with a referral (which I cannot do, and need a doctor for!). So, unfortunately, that experience is pretty average in VA for PCPs ime I'll say that I've seen Doc also improve over the years. He now seems to do in-person phone follow-ups, texting. He seems a little bit happier, in general. So perhaps things are improving, which is basically all I want from my neighborhood doc. Though I really want and kind of like Dr. Rashid as my PCP, multiple times I've found myself needing to go to a different PCP or just directly to a specialist (when insurance allows) in order to get the right healthcare. But, again, not exclusive experience to Dr. Rashid, and seems part of the model of medicine in this part of VA. His front staff have always been pretty good, and their online system has also improved for the most part. Lastly, I will say Rashid is good in that he is preventive in his approach to medicine. He's not interested in throwing pills at you, and respects the body. This is what keeps me coming back currently, despite my search for my forever doc!

I had just moved from out of state and he had been recommended, so I made the appointment for three months away. The morning of the appointment - three months later- I had not gotten a reminder call from the office so I called to confirm my 1:00 pm appointment. I was told the appointment had been canceled because they had not received my paperwork and had called to remind me about the appointment and the paperwork on three different occasions. I asked what number they had been calling. It was an incorrect number - off by one digit. Since I'm not in the habit of giving an incorrect version if my own number, it was clear there had been a typo when they input my number. I told the receptionist my correct number and asked that they honor the appointment that day. She said she would go and talk to the doctor. When she returned to the phone, she told me that not only would they not see me as scheduled but that the doctor had said they would not schedule me at all - ever - because they hadn't received my paperwork. While initially I was upset and disappointed, I'm actually quite glad it turned out this way because I wouldn't want to see a doctor who has so little compassion or consideration.

After a long and disappointing association with an oncology practice, my mother was not getting…read moreneeded pain medication or support for her illness. The patient him or herself can't make decisions about changing routines much less physicians. It pained me to see the daily frustration, her pain medication wasn't working. I consulted my own hospitalization's pages to find a doctor whose speciality is Geriatrics. Dr. Peter Schlissler is a prince among men. He had my parents and me in his office...cancer is a group activity, or it should be. The oncologist had no such office or family meeting. Dr. Schlisser spoke at length about my mother's condition and what we could expect. I told my mother to bring prescriptions in a bag, even empty bottles. Dr. Schlissler commented that these prescriptions were all but no longer used, it was no wonder that the medications were not working. There are better things and better dosages. I had tears to think that this doctor not only provided the revelation about the illness itself, but that there was better, pro-active treatment. Dr, Schissler wanted to examine the patient himself. You could see what kind of a person he is when he took the wheel with her wheelchair. He pushed it himself, slowly, chatting with my mother, mindful of her condition, respectful of it. More tears for me. That appointment lasted nearly five hours. He found that she had severe osteoporosis which no other doctor had tested for. He set about protocols to ease her pain, which eased our worry, he gave us a sense of control at long last. It was such a sense of relief to find Dr. Schissler and his medical practice. He restored our family by providing the respect my battle weary parents needed to carry on. Dr. Schissler is gentle and wise. He was there for my mother every step of the way. As surely as he told us at that first appointment that we were no where near ready for Hospice, he later wisely knew when it was the time. Imagine the dignity and grace. Anyone would do a family member or friend a service by having a consultation with Dr. Schissler and Associates. Dr Gallini has been my doctor since I was a small child (decades ago BTW). He is ALWAYS friendly…read more I am very verbal and could talk one's ear off. He always listens and makes solid suggestions. I now have children of my own and I really appreciate his patience. Despite the fact that he has been in practice for a few years (ahem *cough*) Dr. Gallini is very knowledgeable about current medical trends and changes. Dr. Gallini is NOT a prescription pusher. If you're wanting a doctor that will just do what you tell him/her to do and give you a prescription...don't see Dr. Gallini. He will only prescribe what he feels is most appropriate for the patient, IF anything is appropriate. He will not hesitate to tell you that what you have just has to run its' course...in the nicest way possible. :o) As with most doctors, if you have somewhere to be, make your appointment for first thing in the morning or the last appointment of the day. Dr. Gallini likes to talk with his patients, which has the potential negative side effect of always running a bit behind schedule. But I'll take 10-15 minutes behind schedule over a doctor who rushes me through like a product on an assembly line. If you need to make a routine appointment (physical, etc.) call the office as early as possible. Dr. Gallini's schedule fills up REALLY quickly. It's pretty common to make a yearly physical appointment 2-3 months out. That being said, though, I have been able to get more urgent issues seen much more quickly (sometimes even the same day.) Plan ahead when you can and cross your fingers when you can't! ;o) The office staff is, largely, good. There are several of the office ladies who have been there for awhile and know what's going on. You'll figure out who they are pretty quickly. There are also several positions that change personnel regularly. This seems to be true at many doctor's offices. Just keep notes of who you talk to, date/time, etc. JUST IN CASE you run into issues and need to reference your contact. But I think that's just good practice in general. OVERALL: The fact that I have been seeing Dr. Gallini since I was a small child and I now bring my own children to see him should speak volumes for what I think of this doctor. There are other doctor(s) in the practice with him, but I will only make my appointments with Dr. Gallini (unless we have some kind of HUGE child-illness related issue and don't have a choice.) He's a good man who truly cares about his patients. I probably shouldn't have told you about him..... ;o)

He operated on both my feet many times then sent me to other Drs to get another opinion just to make sure he had diagnosed what he thought was the best thing to do. He and the other dr I saw both operated on my foot at the same time. And when he wasn't able to help he was truthful said he wasn't able to help and pointed me in the rite direction. Rabbitt saved my had after I was bit by a spider then I smashed my hand he sent me to a hand specialist. I was hurting so bad I was taking way to much pain meds he sent me to a pain specialist that sent me to JHU I had to go through a bunch of trials to find the best thing to do and in 2002 I had a medical pump put in me to help with my pain. 17 years now and I have my body and life back the pills were killing me, now when I take the meds I feel like crap. I have nothing but great respect and lots of trust for Dr. Rabbitt, I'm going to be really sad when he retires. He just operated on my shoulder I'll give an update in a few weeks don't start PT for 4 weeks. There are some people out there that haven't had a positive experience I guess if your not happy you can move to someone else. He does his best to make you better you also have to do the work that needs to be done. Not every surgery is going to go great I had a few fail. Doc your doing great!!!!

Here's what I have a problem with. I was sent to Dr. Carlini for getting my hip replaced by my…read moreprimary care physician. 3 visits were authorized. I went to the first visit AFTER xrays. Dr stated I needed a hip replacement. Come back in a couple weeks and we will get you lined up. Lets do a bone scan. Got it done. Came back. Yep you def need a replacement. Come back in a few weeks we will get you lined up. I come in and get told we don't have the facilities to handle your size. I am very tall and very big. If he knew this was the case why in the heck did he keep me in pain for an extra few months and charge me for three visits. He could have done this at the first appt when I walked in. Ill tell you why. Chance to get me three rounds of pain meds. Which I wouldn't use anyway. And three paid visits. And Xrays. And bone scans. Kick back after kick back. Insurance abuse. Milk it out for all it's worth. I disputed the charges. They still insisted. And now its on my credit report. We will see how it plays out with my insurance company. I bet the Fed. Govt. wont think its too professional either.

Surgery is probably in most cases a 0 star experience -- not something you look forward to -- that…read moresaid, a good surgeon can really make the best out of a pretty unpleasant set of circumstances. I was a little anxious in the morning and on the way to the hospital, but as soon I saw Dr. Knoll I knew I was going to be fine -- and he even had me in stitches before I was even under the knife. I was very comfortable and confident with Dr. Knoll from my first interaction with him. He was listed on the Washingtonian Magazine Top Doc Award list in 2008 for general surgery (one of five docs selected). I am not about to go try the other 4, but in my mind he would be really hard to beat. He is a wonderful doctor and surgeon and an extremely nice, caring and funny person. He took amazing care of me -- and all of his staff were wonderful as well. I can't imagine you would do any better if you ever find yourself in need of a surgeon.

While the staff in this office can seem a bit rough around the edges at times, Dr. Knoll certainly…read moreknows his stuff. He specializes in breast and thyroid cancer. He performed a total thyroidectomy on me a few years back and did an absolutely stellar job. He's done this procedure hundreds (if not thousands) of times, so you're in great hands if you need to have this procedure done. Even the scar healed nicely--and is only noticeable by others that have had the procedure. ;-) He also provides wonderful follow-up care. He's friendly, easy to talk to/joke with, and has a very good bedside manner. One thing that I dislike about this office is the fact that they don't call you the day before your appointment to remind you as a courtesy. I've asked the staff why they don't do this and they claim they simply don't have the manpower to do this. The staff seems as though they're overworked at times and may come across as cranky. Though, to their credit, they've never made an error in my billing or appointment scheduling, so they have that going for them. ;-)
