Came in as lowest bid and wound up doing fantastic work. Very satisfied with how the project turned out. Working with them regarding billing and what was considered in and out of scope was a nightmare. Despite my best efforts to make sure we were on the same page in regards to what I wanted done and making sure it was on the invoice it did not stop the invoices for extra work coming out saying it was out of scope. I agreed with the first change order regarding a bench but when more change orders and invoices started showing up with no heads up is when I started asking questions. And even when I said that I told them to give me a heads up on out of scope work, I still got new invoices for out of scope work. $1200 for extra hours for sloping the shower pan, $200 for extra trash removal, $600 for extra plumbing work. TLDR: Lowest Bid, Still great work, but expect them to nickel and dime you until it is done. read more

A year later and I'm still fixing stuff that their crews built including a leaky roof and water damage from rain getting into the baseboards. While the crews worked on various stuff the guys would damage something else and it turned into a string of fixes because something else would get damaged along the way. I chose to just stop the project and call it after a while because the final bill kept increasing. There was stuff I wanted to get done that just got forgotten and I didn't want to keep the project going for fear that something else would get damaged along the way. The time I started writing True Bad comments about this company was after they refused to fix those broken pipes made by their workers. After they finished the job, I made ONE HUGE mistake was, I paid them without checking my irrigation system after they said they fixed it. I trusted they told me they fixed it already, but they didn't. It may not be the owner's fault, he may not know the worker he hired wasn't being honest to customers, but the issue I have with them was, my irrigation system wasn't broken before this project, after they dug the yard, everything is not working anymore. They broke it, they fix it, that simple! The time after they finished my project was January, it was very cold and the temperature was around 29 degree, I wasn't able to turn on the sprinkler. I still paid them in full ( because I trusted what they told me). one week later when the temperature's back up, I found out some of pipes were still leaking, called and texted them, SILENCE, NO RESPONSE. I have been trying to contact with the owner, Barrett, unfortunately they decided not wanting to fix the problem they made, so I have to hire sprinkler company to fix. If they would have made efforts to reach out and help, be responsible, I wouldn't have need to tell everyone the truth. read more

They were contracted for the hall bathroom, and I had concerns and questions about the progress. Instead of answering the questions, they sent an invoice. They keep asking for money even when the work is not done. The main office is unorganized. The clean-up problems should have been thoroughly addressed. After a third request to clean up, I still had to remove the painter's tape. Their work ranges from not good to good. Request an item to be fixed, which was poorly done, requiring me to paint the area now. My advice is to find someone else. They are not worth the headache and dealing with no-call and no-show. read more

It's not quality work: uneven, nails already splitting wood, exposed tarp; it's not even finished, my yard is trashed, and they aren't returning our calls or texts anymore. I used BAH back in 2013 on a remodel and it was a really good experience. I hired one handyman at a daily rate and couldn't be happier. I guess they have grown since then. They came out and looked at a very small job I had, but I was told their minimum job is a two man crew for an entire day at $1,000 per day. Good for them for their successful growth. Bad for me as I will have to find a smaller vendor to do my work. It would have been a better experience if we had better communication earlier so that neither of us had to waste our time with an in person quote. read more

I had some work done on my floors a while back from these guys. The install wasn't done very well and they used transition pieces that I complained about as they were installing them. They said they would hold up just using liquid nails. It wasn't very long after getting the work done did the transition pieces started coming loose. I wouldn't recommend them at all. I had them come out and review the work because I wasn't satisfied with it and they told me it was because the wrong transition pieces were chosen and they weren't going to make it right. That is exactly what I told them before. Their "carpenters" told me to get those piece even though that is not what the flooring store suggested. They don't honor their work and don't make it right when there is a problem. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Purchased an Angie's list "Big Deal of the Day" for two hours of handyman services, which stated it could be one person for two hours or two people for one hour. They showed up 30 minutes late, reviewed the list then one person worked while the second individual watched- doing absolutely nothing. About 30 minutes after they arrived, I explained that it was my expectation that when two people showed up, both were going to be working on different items on the "to-do" list. They said they understood, then nothing changed- the same individual worked while the other individual watched and chatted with him. It took an additional hour and a half beyond the promotion that I purchased to complete 3 items on the list- replace 3 light bulbs in our entryway fixture, hang a 2 ft x 2 ft chalkboard, and install 8 knobs on a dresser. When they finished, the chalkboard was crooked and 2 of the 8 knobs were off center and crooked. I called the owner, who never returned my call. Terrible experience and I share it to hopefully save other people the frustration and expense I experienced with this company. read more

Maybe Best Austin Handyman was being sarcastic the day they chose the name for their service....Or maybe they were hanging with the owners of Mr. Gatti's Pizza and were advised to name their business "best" even though they weren't sure yet if they would be... .I say this because Gatti's Pizza signs used to say they were "the best pizza in town, honest". These guys are rock stars! As a real estate agent I have a lot of clients who need a handyman or remodeling service either before or after they move. BAH are the only folks I refer to because the feedback I get about them from my clients is always positive. So don't just take my word for it - but the dozen+ people I've sent their way! I've used their services personally many times as well. I love that they can handle small things like a leak or a door that sticks so I save up a bunch of tasks then have them send someone over to take care of it all at once. I also love that I can count on them for major remodeling too. I just bought a house and finished having BAH remodel it. The before and after photos are unbelievable and BAH did it all! Across the board, the men and women who worked on the project for me were friendly, professional and respectful. They made me feel like no detail was too small to take care of. A couple of other great things about Best Austin Handyman - their structure and ethics. The professionals who work for them are on payroll, not random folks they pick up to fill out a crew or a bunch of subcontractors you can't rely on to be somewhere on time. Wow. I don't know what the negative reviewers are talking about because I just had an AMAZING experience. I bought a Groupon for two hours. Logan showed up five minutes early, and including a trip to Home Depot to pick up a few pieces of hardware I needed, he completed four jobs in an hour and twenty three minutes. 1) A french door had fallen off the track and needed new hardware in order to be put back in. 2) A closet door spring had come loose preventing me from closing the door. 3) I needed a huge utility hook rack drilled onto the back of my utility closet. 4) I had tried to hang a large curtain rod myself but had trouble with the studs. These were just little things I had put up with for years... things that I had been "meaning to do"... a door that wouldn't close right, a lopsided curtain rod, etc... and he was able to handle all these tiny projects in about 10 minutes each. I feel so accomplished today and I didn't have to do anything except pay the $10.75 for the hardware he picked up. This was so cool. Now that I know their rates are so incredibly reasonable ($40/hour I believe), I will use them for bigger projects, like drywall. I am so excited to have found them. They don't do plumbing or electrical projects, but that's fine by me. I will definitely use them again. SOON! read more

I used Best Austin Handyman for a medium-sized remodel project that I was originally intending to do myself, but I quickly realized I was in over my head due to time constraints. I used them for demolition of a wall, framing and sheetrock (hang, tape, and mud) of a new wall and ceiling, electrical, wall texture, woodwork trim, and paint. I am extremely happy with the work they did - I threw change after change at them, and they took it all in stride. My timing expectations weren't always realistic, but the owner Barrett always returned my calls and worked with me. He was flexible and willing to adapt to my changing requirements. We contracted with Best Austin Handyman about 4 years ago to remodel and upstairs bathroom because the shower was leaking and the bathroom was outdated. We've had 4 issues since then... (1)Last year, we had to have the entire shower redone for the same problem....it was leaking down to the 1st floor. I called BAH and while they were responsive it took over 4 months to work with the insurance agency to cover 80% of the cost of the fix for the shower. (2)Just this past week we have yet another problem with a toilet they installed in the same bathroom. The toilet flange was below the finished floor so the wax ring was not sealing which caused the toilet to leak. (3)In addition one of the sinks they installed in this bathroom was leaking. They had someone come out and "fix" it, i.e. they just used plumbers putty to get the handle to stop leaking (on a brand new sink!) at the valve which caused the handle to then seize up. (4) After a horrible shower title install, they came and removed the tile and did it again. About a month later the original installer and his wife showed up to our house demanding money and threatened to put a lien on our house. read more

Use this company only if you: -need to have the project take twice the time estimated -are okay with cost overruns you learn about two weeks after the project is done and get backup invoices with receipts for tools (jigsaw) and sunglasses -are comfortable with workers showing up to work two hours, then leaving, or not showing up at all -do not need to know "who" is coming to work on your project "when." -like companies that get workers off of Craig's list -are fine with workers not communicating with you or each other -want to have experience supervising sub-sub contractors -don't care how your beautiful paint for your beautiful project is applied and like having your home disrupted for much longer than the actual project lasted -do not expect companies to pitch in to get the work done when a contractor is having trouble. This sarcasm probably gives you the idea that this company is not one you would want to do business with. I had them do work before and it went well, but for a big (to me) project, they really let me down. Some of the work looks great, but it required way too much time and effort on my part. At first the plan was to knock down 1 interior wall but after my consultation with Barrett and getting his perspective we took down 3 walls, added new flooring and baseboards. My insurance company told me I needed to fix a small patch of roof shingles to get approved for house insurance. So I called these guys, gave them the address, my phone number, the tenant's phone number, and a pic of what needed to be fixed. They said they would get it scheduled with the tenant. I didn't hear back, so I called back and they had no idea what I was talking about. I should have stopped there. Instead, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I scheduled it for Tuesday. I set my insurance inspector to go out on Thursday, just in case they had a hard time with the "small patch of shingles". I get a bill from them, and fortunately, before I had a chance to pay it, my insurance lady calls me and said nothing has been done and now the insurance is not going to get processed, and the guy is pissed bc it is EXACTLY the same. I call, complain, tell them I want them to fix it and take a pic of the repair. They go out, "fix" it, fail to take a pic. I don't have a ladder tall enough to crawl onto the roof. And frankly, I shouldn't have to. I should be able to trust the handyman to get it done. Especially since I provide a picture of what exactly needs to be done. Like an idiot, I trust them, and have my insurance go inspect it again. Fail. Now my insurance is going up. Awesome. Thanks. And I am an idiot. Don't use these guys. You would be better off telling your imaginary friend to get it done and trusting him. read more

I have two very different experiences, The first time, I got a super handyman who was super prepared for any work and fast at his work (John Taylor). The " quality inspector" (jarret?) did not even come by. The second time I had a less competent handyman, quality inspector came by and had to fetch materials and tools two different times. And show handyman how to do certain things, No problem except they wanted to charge me two hours extra for quality inspector fetching tools that handyman should have had (like a voltage detector) . The handyman was also incredibly slow. They took off the two hour charge for Quality inspector when I complained. They very much want to make people happy so assert yourself and don't be bullied and let them add extra " quality inspector" hours. I will use this business again but only if John Taylor is available. read more

When I called their office I spoke with a girl who had a bad attitude and was not meant to be in the customer service business. I scheduled an appt. with her for one of the handymen to come look at my door that needed repair. I took the morning off on the day he was to come to my house. After waiting 45 minutes of waiting, I called the office. The "customer service" girl (sounded like same nasty one previously) told me my handyman had called in sick, would I like to reschedule my appt? I asked her why I hadn't been called. She said "I don't know" No way was I rescheduling! I called a professional company and spoke to a nice person who sent a nice repair person to my house. "Best" is the WORST! read more

Used this company to do a bunch of mortar repair on our walkways. Not even a month after they came out, everything had washed out (and this was BEFORE the heavy rains of last month).
