This Best Buy location is pretty good, it is smaller than other locations but I've had good customer service most of the time. There have been some visits where the lines are long and move slowly but I haven't ever had any of the employees be mean or dismissive. In the past the service at this store has been horrible! Today I was pleasantly suprised. Last time I was in, the person at the front was too busy playing with her phone to help me. When I instsited pointed to the area where the dronmes were,..no help. I went back and then she called for someone to assist me...nothing. I went back and she called someone who was visably irritated to help me, they told me they know nothing about drones or wi-fi glasses. Today, a totaly different expereince! With all due respect if you are not Hispanic stay away from this location. I went in to purchase a desktop for my medical practice. Upon entering no one greeted me, then I went to the computer area and there were two guys helping other patrons. I patiently waited and when they were don't they both walked away from the area without asking if I needed help or anything. Then I went to the front to ask what the process was to get someone to assist me, and the guy said he would call someone to the back to help. But he told me to wait because everyone was busy. But when I looked, there were two guys just casually talking and laughing, "busy galavanting", with each other. So I went back to the computer area and waited for another 20min and no one came. We needed help with game controllers...I walk to the front of the store to ask for help in the gaming section...mean while there are 4 Best Buy employees just standing around..the guy at the computer says "I can help from here" instead of sending one of the employees to the gaming section. So I had to walk and grab the controllers and take them to the front of the store so he can tell us about them. We've never had problems like this at any other Best Buy. They know how to greet a customer and help them to the very end of the store visit. Everyone is friendly from Management to Floor Staff. I have NEVER stepped foot inside this particular Best Buy. But Belly, if that's the case, why the hell are you writing a review for this location? Well, I went online to buy an "open box" monitor from this Best Buy with free delivery. Pretty sweet, right? The monitor condition was marked as "excellent" online and since I trusted Best Buy's judgment, why the hell not. The monitor took about one business day to arrive. Awesome, but since it was an in-town delivery, that was kind of expected. So I opened up the box and ready to plug in my new monitor. First thing I noticed was smudges of fingerprints all over the display. Seriously GeekSquad? Y'all can't clean this crap up before putting it back in the box? Also, the styrofoam inside the box are all broken apart so there was almost no protection for the monitor. And then when I finally plugged in the monitor and the backlight turns on, that's when I saw that the monitor was cracked all over the place. Like shattered! My first time dropping into this Best Buy. I normally go to the Galleria or Spring Branch locations - which are busy. The Gulfgate location was rather empty, which I like. I got immediate help finding a new laptop charger. The gentleman didn't know too much about Apple chargers, but not a big issue to me. He was young and determined to help me out. Disclaimer: I love all Best Buys. I take that back. I love all techy stores. Best Buy is my usual go to spot though because of the Rewards. This particular location is smaller than most, but it happened to be on the way home and I needed to get some more Christmas gifts. I went for video games for the kiddo. At my usual store I can walk around that section for awhile without anyone asking me if I need help. Here, I had someone help me right away. They seemed to have more in stock than other locations also. I was in and out quick and the cashier sold me on their video game rewards card that saved me almost $60. You come in to try to buy something, but you can't find no sales associate to help you. So, what is the point of even coming in for work if all your going to do is stand on the sidelines staring or conversing among yourself? The yellow shirt guy at the front of the counter had to page his employees several times until he gave up and went to get a PS4 for me. So either the employees here ignore their boss or turn their microphone off. Either way, they aren't communicating and customers aren't getting the help they need. It's very rare to find a sale associate who is genuine ready to help you or it's very rare to find one who knows how to assist. Someone who is knowledgeable about the products they sale. The hispanic young lady who met me at the register was dumbfounded. She kept asking me pointless questions which lead to me telling her no and a bunch of annoyance. Eh.. would you like to purchase this red or blue PS4 controller? No! Eh... would you like to sign up for a Best Buy credit card? No! Eh... would you like to have coverage for the PS4 it's an additional $50? No! Like if I wanted it I would say something about it! I'm viewed at my office as the resident neo-Luddite. In business school, we learned of technological "early adopters" and I'm not one of them. When my bosses wanted to switch from XP Pro to Vista, I urged caution and to wait until various patches were issued. After the utter failure of that upgrade, we switched to Macs. But again, I resisted the switch to a new OS. [I'll admit that I'm a happy convert to the Mac now.] From an earlier review, you know that I own a "vintage" 2004 refurbished ATT Wireless cell phone and have yet to update it despite my 2-year contract being up 3 years ago. Another "vintage" item that I own is a 2001 2-megapixel Fujifilm digital camera. Back in the day, it was pretty cutting-edge and its bulkiness was not laughable like it is today. Over the years, I think I've used it about a dozen times. Well, as part of my Yelp activity, I'm more eager to take photos of various businesses and sights - but, the zoom lens has gotten stuck permanently in maximum close-up, which doesn't make for flattering photos in all cases. Enter Best Buy. After searching options online, I took a trip to the local store to eyeball the goods since I wanted to get a slim unit. But, I opted to buy it online since free shipping and a free 2GB memory card ($13.99 value) were part of the deal. During the checkout, I discovered that the camera was free of ship charges but the free 2GB card had a $3.99 shipping fee. Completely nuts since the card's weight was negligible and it wouldn't add materially to the weight of the camera box being shipped for free. If I was adding an LCD screen TV or a laptop, then I'd understand. At this point, I noticed that you could pick up at the store - completely free of ship charges. So, to ditch the $3.99 nutty fee, I changed my order to store pick up. Best Buy deducted my payments from 2 gift cards, charged the balance to my credit card, credited my Reward Zone account, and scheduled it to this store easily through the online system. You get 2 emails: the first acknowledges your order and the second tells you that the order is ready at the designated counter. The first email states that, on average, it takes 45 minutes to issue the second email. If that's the average, what is the most frequent maximum outlier? Needless to say, the email was silent on this. I received my second email about 4 hours after the first. Your results may vary. The Gulfgate store is not super-sized like the Galleria one but it also doesn't have the zombie mobs associated with the larger store. Driving over to this store on a Sunday morning, I was the sole client at the desk. Ana was courteous, friendly, and asked for my credit card used, Texas driver license, and order number before fetching the items from the back. She told me that lots of people use this in-store pickup scheme, which I've become a fan of. All in all, I was done in less than 5 minutes. Sufficiently armed with a "modern" camera, I'm now ready for my close-up, your close-up, and everything in between. If only they could tweak the system to fix the nutty $3.99 memory card ship fee. But, don't try calling me since I've still got my "brick" cell phone. Smile! read more

An employee walked right past us so we called to them and asked a question, they only said its right here and kept walking. Once looking at the open box tvs (which is at the front of the store) we looked for an employee to talk to for about 5 minutes and had to flag another down, who again didn't know anything and radioed to a coworker. All of the previous reviews about the horrific customer service at this location are true. Unfortunately, I did not read the reviews prior to placing an online order for pickup at this location. Please allow me to start from the beginning... I placed an order online for pickup today at 2PM for the Gulfgate location. Five hours later, at 7PM, I have not received an updated order status. I stopped at the store to pick up my item or at least get an update. I was told that they had two guys pulling product and that they were looking for my item. They said it would take 45 minutes to an hour. I told the clerk that it had already been 5 hours. The 1 hour mark and been surpassed. She stated rudely that I was more than welcome to go look for it myself. Needless to say, I was livid! I asked another employee at the front door to call a manager. He proceeded to get on his ear piece and call for a manager. After five minutes, one hadn't bothered to show up. I proceeded to the camera department and look for my item. After a few more minutes, I was even more angry. I went back to the loss prevention "expert" that stands at the front door thinking he can actually stop someone from stealing and asked if the manager ever bothered to show up. He had not bothered to show up. He also made a rude remark as I walked out the door. Bottom line is this...DO NOT SHOP AT THE BEST BUY AT GULFGATE. The horrible customer service is ridiculous. Let me start out by saying I use to work for Best Buy. That being said I have a high expectation when I arrive at a location. (For a quick review scroll down) When I walked in at 10am I walked straight over to DI/Cameras. I wanted to see what they offered for DSLRs. I was surprised they had no cameras in the glass display case other than the single, display, t5 camera. I still wanted to see if they had any other cameras in stock or that I could play with so I waited on a sales associate. *wait 35 minutes* Albert walked up to me and asked if I needed help. I asked what Canon cameras they were selling in store. He asked if I had any camera knowledge and I replied "some". He pulled out a 5D mark III, 7D mark II, and a t5. I asked him what camera he suggested to me and why. He told me the t5 was the best camera for me without even knowing what I was going to use it for. When I asked why not the 5D mark III he replied "it's too expensive and not worth the money". I was a little taken back. I asked what the difference was between the 2 cameras and he started reading off the box. At this point I started to loose interest in what he was saying. I wanted to know what he knew about the cameras, which I guess I learned.. Nothing. He knew nothing about either camera. I knew enough about both of those cameras before I walked in. Short version: The store did have nice products which is why I gave it 2 stars. The customer service on the other hand does not deserve a star. They do not pursue their customers and are not knowledgeable about the products they are selling. read more

If I could give this location a zero rating I would. As understanding and respectful of all Covid Pre-Cautions everyone has in place- this location literally has the entrance blocked off like some line backers playing defense, all while having you wait behind the person who is explaining their needs. Not to mention the Geek Squad department has Plexiglass to shield them from client enter action while still moving to the open area to enter act with the client. I was 4 minutes early to my appointment, was asked to step a side while they checked if the appointment before me had made it in, all to tell me the screen for my phone wasn't in, to them have me come back. I received a call later to advise me if I did not come in immediately the Apple would charge the store full price for the screen. To then come back, and would should have been an hour turn around time for the screen and calibration to be completed- turned i to 1/2 a day due to their network. It took 3 weeks to get my computer back and it was still not functioning and would not help me or exchange it for a working one that was covered under my bestbuy coverage. This is my favorite Best Buy in Houston coming from a Best Buy elite plus member. This location is huge with a great variety of brands. I come here for Father's Day shopping, Christmas, birthdays, or just for fun when the new tech devices are released. They offer phones with no contract here too. I don't buy phones from T-Mobile, Verizon etc. Best Buy has the best deals and WARRANTY. I've taken back different things such as my vacuum that lost its suction. No question asked and replaced for a new Dyson. You can find anything here, literally. Even electronic toothbrushes. Everyone at this location is friendly and helpful. I take the 20 minute drive here for the service. Instead of my nearest store. I will keep coming here as long as it is open. read more

This has been the worst online appliance purchase I have ever made. Original delivery scheduled the 3rd. Late morning of the 3rd. (after taking off work) I get an email saying I need to schedule my appliance delivery. WHAT? They had cancelled it because they had no dishwasher. (information I needed when I ordered and paid for it) I call and two days of inept service later I get the Dishwasher and all the things I paid for to install it scheduled for the 8th. Morning of (took off work again) I get an email saying I need to schedule the Installation kit which had been scheduled for the 8th like everything else. I call. There was no installation kit at the Warehouse when they went to load the truck the night before...(that would have been good to know at that point...we all have phone these days. It is 4pm and still no dishwasher as I have to hope the message they put on the order goes to the delivery people...telling them to go to another store location for the Installation kit. I am 4 written complaints and 8 phone calls into this situation and pretty over BEST BUY!!! read more

I give this Best Buy at Gulfgate five stars, because they always help me find what I need fast, and they are friendly, and knowledgeable. Kimberly and the whole staff there are very good at solving problems, and if they can't find what I need, or solve the problem that I have with my computer, television or smart phone, then they find somebody quickly who can help me. And they are the same friendly faces that I see when I shop, and they give the appearance that they actually care about their customers, and after shopping there for 10 years, I believe they do care about their customers. I took my computer in for a cracked screen and they said it would take 2 weeks to replace. It took almost a month...I also found out they changed out the hard drive without my permission because it was "damaged" even though it was working perfectly fine before. So I got my computer back late, all my school work gone, and now having to rebut all of Microsoft products including the essential word. Go somewhere else to get your stuff fixed. read more
