January 18, 2021 at 3:45 pm I had appointment with Geek Squad to install rear dash cam wire and route underneath trunk trim. The 2 employees that did the service were incredibly rude and disrespectful. One of them actually yelled at me to wear a mask. On top of the less than stellar customer service, I recently discovered the wire they routed was cut in half and then crudely taped back together! I discovered this while attempting to diagnose issues with my dash cam not recording. The cut wire was the issue....This wire being cut in half was obviously their fault and was never mentioned to me after service was complete. I paid over $60 for my property to be destroyed and to be treated like dirt in the process. AVOID THIS LOCATION LIKE THE PLAGUE. I would recommend the Altoona Best Buy location. read more

This has to be the WORST experience I have EVER had at ANY retailer EVER. ESPECIALLY phone sales. Arrogant guy "waiting" on me couldn't have been more rude, wasn't listening to a thing I was saying. i had to buy a new phone to replace a lost one. The guy assured me THE WHOLE TIME that even though I don't have my old phone everything can still be transferred but I will lose some stuff after my phone was last saved. Then I asked the guy "helping" me to let the front desk know I am going to get a screen protector. to which he said, "oh, you'll have to let them know, I'm clocked out so I could care less". After ALL THAT, I go home to find not a SINGLE PICTURE OR VIDEO of any kind anywhere on my phone from THE LAST 9 YEARS OF MY LIFE!!!! then after coming back today to get it transferred again I am told my photos and videos were never backed up or saved at all to begin with... WHAT?!?!? what kind of establishment allows its employees to lie directly to its customers faces and say everything would be saved and its "all good" because he just wanted to make a sale and he was "clocked out and could care less" . !!ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!! The Geek Squad hooked me up! Adam, Dusty, and Todd(?) were so friendly...so helpful...so fun...and got me in and out faster than I could have ever expected during this pandemic. They truly went above and beyond for me. I brought them munchkins, because Adam was so awesome on the phone...and they joking put it on my order form to play around. My sister gave us an older IPad 9.7 32 GB which had a stuck home button. Since we pay for Geek Squad annually I brought it in to the Johnstown Pa store. My appointment was at 11:40 but they took me early. I walked in and there was no waiting. The agent Zack came over and I explained about the button sticking. He told me they don't go inside of these and it wouldn't be worth repairing since the repair would be more than what it's worth. Then he did something that really surprised me. He told me he can put a button on the screen and bypass the physical Home Screen button! I am telling you this in case you run across this and someone tries to do otherwise. This is my local store so it's primarily the only location I frequent. The employees throughout the store are sometimes helpful, not for what you're looking for but the general area or the store the section you're looking for is. My biggest issue with this location is that they don't sync up their sale skus with their registered. I've almost never had a sale item ring up at the sale price, then you have to wait for the one person in the whole store with override credentials to free up and override your price. YOU TRUST YOUR EMPLOYEES WITH HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF INVENTORY, TRUST THEM TO HELP CUSTOMERS AT CHECKOUT. This issue has resulted in me putting back games the last 4 visits I've had because I don't feel I should have to wait, on top of the checkout line AND making everyone behind me wait, just to have the employee they trust to be available. Fun fact for customers though, if you want a game that's on sale, check the console store (Nintendo, Xbox, PlayStation, etc.). All games we wanted we bought directly from the console for less. The following story is why I cannot stand shopping in the Johnstown area. I showed up here with my brother during the most recent monsoon. We came to look at several different items and figured why not stop here because a majority of what we were looking for would be in this store. We were just browsing through different sections of the store. After a few minutes, and while in the appliance section, we were approached by a sales associate and asked if we needed any help. We politely declined help and kept browsing. The sales associate, with clipboard handy, informed us of "deals" that could be had in store and lingered for a moment. We made our way over to the gaming section in hopes of finding a component cable to HDMI converter box. We browsed the section all we could with no avail. I was on one side of the aisle and my brother on the other. I heard my brother talking to someone and went around to see who it was. No other than the same sales associate, yet again. At this point I became a little leery of him and started to think that he was purposely following us through the store. There are probably a couple of reasons as to why he was following us: he needed to make a commission, he was just aimlessly wondering, or he thought we were going to steal something. If it was the last reason, I do not appreciate the thought. Yes, we looked horrible but blame that on the rain, we were drenched and my hair looked unkempt. Anyway, back to the story. When I came around the end of the aisle my brother asked me to tell him what we were looking for and I told him the component cable to HDMI converter box. His response, with some paraphrasing, "We don't sell those here. The main reason is because you won't get a clear quality of picture. What you want to buy is a converter box." Yeah, you read that right. He suggested to us to buy exactly what we were asking for. Which according to him, was not in store. After he finally walked away, and some mumbling on my part to the effect of how much of a dolt he was, we continued to browse. At that point we were approached by a member of their Geek Squad and asked the same question. He was unsure about it and said he needed to ask his coworker. While standing there we were able to see the coworker he asked, the same sales associate that had been following us. When the Geek Squad member came back we were given the answer that they do carry it, but only online. So that goes to say that they really have no idea what they are talking about here. This is an okay place to come. Warning - as you walk in, all the associates will attack you asking if you need help. Not just as you enter, but at every corner. This isn't a bad thing if you're looking for something. It's a pain when you're actually coming in to look. They have a little bit of everything - mobile phones, computers, laptops, tablets, routers, home appliances, movies, games, CDs, and TVs. For the most part, staff know what they are talking about. Lewis is the BEST employee in the building, he will help you with just about anything (related to your shopping of course) even if it is outside his department. He has a great personality and will brighten up your day. The employees are VERY eager to help you out, friendly, but overwhelming...but they are very helpful. The movie and CD selection is slowly evaporating. Their open box specials are amazing, I got myself a sweet smart tv at a bargain. Although, there was one BB Mobile employee who wasn't quite comprehending my situation. I just wanted a SIM card...and he was very persistent about having the account holder present even though I am an authorized user on the account. Due to the recent death of the account holder, we have not had the time to change that on the account. That being said, he continued to not understand that I could NOT bring the account holder to him to get the SIM card. But wait! There's More. After going rounds with him over it and him still not understand, I finally lost my temper a bit after the sixth time that he demanded I bring him the account hold and I informed him that if the account hold is so important to him, I'll hop up to Grandview and dig him up just for him. At that point everyone looked at me with discomfort and I walked out. Then I went to the AT&T store across the street and they solved the issue in less than 5 minutes. January 26th I went to Best Buy to return items purchased for Christmas and was not issued a refund from my merchandise costing $2700. After this large purchase, I became an elite member and well within the holiday return period of January 30. For Christmas, I decided to buy local as much as possible and visited Johnstown Best Buy for a sound system for my home. I specifically told the sales associate I needed a soundbar and two speakers to sync with my TV. I purchased three Bose speakers, a wolfer and a soundbar as suggested by the associate. After numerous attempts to get my system to sync the audio and video, I then paid another $110 to Johnstown Best Buy for the Geek Squad to come to my home and do it for me. They were great but were unable to get it synced either. After an hour of not getting it synced either, the techs checked with Bose and learned it couldn't be done and that Bose was aware of the problem. Because calling the Johnstown phone number is worthless, the tech called to explain the situation. I packed up everything in original packaging and returned to the store to exchange for something that would work. The associate explained there is no wireless system that can sync speakers with a soundbar. Not happy to be told that after the fact. I was very clear about what I wanted to purchase and I trusted their expertise. This should never have been recommended to me. Period I was not given a refund and the only thing the manager would do is give an in-store credit even though it was their error for selling me something I couldn't use. I also said after trying to do this on my own I couldn't reach the store or so called customer service center to set up an appointment to get this system running. I had tried for two weeks to reach Best Buy by phone but could never get through. The store number listed is useless and rings to their call center which goes to a 45-minute hold and then drops the call. This whole experience was frustrating and my only recourse is to contact Better Business with this complaint and get the word out everywhere possible on social media to warn potential customers to stay away from this store because they apparently are not the experts they once were. Corporate will be hearing from me as well. This used to be the store I trusted because employees knew their merchandise. Even though pricier than most retailers, I purchased from Best Buy and felt I was paying for quality service. The confidence I had is gone and I will never be back. For now, I have all the home electronics I need or want so this in-store credit is of no use for me. $2700 is going to take too long time to use and too much money to lose so until I am refunded what is due me, I will pursue this further. Star rating--Geek squad was great but sales associate's poor knowledge of merchandise, lack of customer service and the bad attitude of management at Johnstown Best Buy is well into the minus star rating. I just wanted to let people know how great the Johnstown store manager is. I bought a Sony tv from them and when we mounted it to the wall we discovered a small mark in the tv screen I called the store and they came and exchanged it for another one then after two weeks it developed a wide line down the side and along the top. So i went to the store to tell them about the problem and the manager was a big help. He offered me another brand tv but it couldn't be delivered until next week. And I was not happy about this. The manager named Terry went out of his way to bring me my new tv over the weekend in his own truck as I had bought a 75 inch tv and it would not fit in my car. Now this is the kind of manager all stores should have. A manager that goes out of his way on personal time to help out a customer. I am very grateful for all of his help.
