Purchased a new 60" Sony television. We told Dick (at the television counter) that we would take it with us. He said that if we had any problem with installation we could call the Geek Squad and they would send someone to our home. He NEGLECTED to tell us that the ONLY way they would help us was if they delivered and installed it in our home. We encountered a problem and called the 800 number. Was told it would be $98.00 to come to our home and fix the problem. Out to the store (in Portage, MI) we went to speak with an actual person who could help us, rather than AI, As we approached the television sales counter a young man seated behind a computer. He mumbled "Huh" and stared at his computer screen as we explained why we were there. He immediately called a manager over and that was the extent of our conversation with him. The manager told us the same thing - it would cost us $98.00 for a service call. I asked him to please make this perfectly clear to others who might purchase a television that the only way you will get service is if they come to your home and install it, otherwise, it will cost $98.00. He went on to say that it would cost Best Buy $118.00 to make a service call to our home--We had just spent well over $1200.00! We have purchased all of our electronics and home appliances from Best Buy for over 30 years and the salespeople at Best Buy have always been very helpful and pleasant. This does not appear to be the case anymore. We are extremely disappointed with the lack of knowledge by the employees at Best Buy in Portage, MI. read more

A few months ago I attempted to help someone purchase a laptop for school. They planned on paying partially with cash, and the rest on a debit card. After some back and forth with an employee, we decided purchasing a gift card with the cash and ordering the laptop (as it wasn't in stock) was the simplest method. So that's what we did. After a week of waiting, and tracking the laptop, I noticed it never shipped. I contacted support a few times and was reassured it was normal. The laptop kept getting delayed, another week goes by, and I randomly notice best buy cancelled my order, and refunded me the money. I contacted support once more and was told the laptop might have been out of stock, and a full refund was issued. That's when I faced problem number one. Best buy has sent me an E-gift card for $370 to refund the amount paid via the gift card. Unfortunately the email linked to the best buy account was old, and deactivated, so I never received my gift card. I didn't think much of it, updated my information, and contacted support to ask for a new gift card. I was told they can only mail me a physical one, so I agreed and waiting for my physical gift card to arrive. A few weeks go by and nothing in the mail. I call support once more, and am told my request to mail the gift card was denied, as the name on the debit card used to partially pay for the laptop doesn't match the name on the account. They put in another request on my behalf, explaining the situation. My second request got denied. This went on 5 times, over a 2 month period. I kept calling support, and after back and forth they put in a request, that gets denied. I finally had enough, and decided to go down to the store and complain. A kind employee helped me out, calling support on my behalf. I left the store empty handed, with yet another request, that got denied a few days later. I made a second visit to the store, and was put with the manager this time. The manager once again called support on my behalf, gave me his phone number, and said he will attempt a few things and keep me posted. So I waited a few more weeks, and was contacted a few times by the manager, everything he did failed. I was told he can't just write me a $370 gift card, or discount a laptop $370. I was told "there is nothing that can be done at a store level", eventually he stopped responding to my texts. I am still owed $370 from best buy. If you plan on purchasing something from them, please save a headache and drive 2 hours to microcenter, it's very worth it, much better customer service, that won't cheat you out of $370. I am deeply disappointed on how disfunctional Best Buys customer service is. Very unhappy. read more

I purchased a backup camera and paid for the installation as well. The Westnedge location doesn't have an installer, so they scheduled me for installation at the Benton Harbor Best Buy location. The kid who helped with scheduling this was great. On the way home from the installation at Benton Harbor, we noticed a piece of trim was loose and hanging from the car ceiling. We didn't have time that night to go back, but eventually I went by the Westnedge store to ask if they could fix this issue or if I would need an appointment at the other store. Long story short, they couldn't fix it and per the manager were also unwilling to schedule an appt for the installing location to fix it as this type of appointment "isn't in their system." I also can't call Benton Harbor because it goes to a national calling center. They said I would need to drive to the installing location to schedule an appointment for another time. So basically 3 1.5 hr round trips to get this installation done right. Do yourself a favor, install yourself or go to a small business owner rather than dealing with this corporate nonsense. read more

First off, this is like the cleanest electronics place I've gone too. Super futuristic looking too. Obviously I came for a video game because it's me. The signs make it so easy to find things. Although there were lots of employees socially distanced and waiting to help. The set up of the store is so cool and yet enticing. We recently bought a stacking washer and dryer from Best Buy. About 45 minutes after ordering everything in-store the salesman called us to say he forgot to sell us the stacking kit and we needed to come back to the store. No biggie. Never mind we were forced to buy a new dryer vent kit we don't need. When they came to deliver the units (within the 12 hour delivery window we need to be home for), they say the washer is defective. No problem, these things happen. But with four kids the laundry is starting to pile up. A few days later and the second delivery team calls to say they can come early. Awesome! They give us a time window. The time window passes. Another day shot. When they do show up, they complain that the previous team gave us the wrong type of cord. Apparently, the first team was a different third party who didn't know what they were doing. They stack the unit in the hall then stop. The hot water faucet broke while they were installing it. We need to call a plumber. They leave everything in the hall with nothing attached. Again, stuff happens... apparently frequently. They tell me once the plumber comes, I can move everything into place, plug it in and I'll be in business. After they leave, I look at the setup. It's immediately clear that the dryer cord isn't long enough to reach the outlet. The dryer kit I didn't want in the first place is still in the box. I go to call the number on the card the salesman handed me... what!!? There literally isn't a phone number on it. I look at the order forms. No number. Finally, I find a number buried in the fine print of the folder. After several minutes of navigating voice prompts, I'm put on hold................... I explain the situation and am told they don't sell longer cords. All I need is literally 1-2 inches of wiggle room! To their credit, they refunded me the cost of the installation that didn't happen and told me I can buy a longer cord on Amazon and install it myself. At this point, my children are quite ripe and we still have the world's largest paperweight in our hall. read more

I have decided today to stop shopping at Best Buy stores. Tonight I needed to buy a flash drive so I could send video and still captures of our time away to some friends in Chicago. So I needed something simple. SanDisk, 16 GB, USB 2.0...I figured $6. So, of course, I walked around, looking in the obvious places, and I couldn't find it. And, as it turned out, I couldn't find anyone to help me. While there were many blue shirted boys and girls, few of them seemed to see or hear me. I stood near to a trio of blue shirted boys, hoping to make eye contact with one of them. But the three were too busy talking about their plans for the coming weekend. (I am reminded of this very fine restaurant in Traverse City. The restaurant's manager kept his eye on everyone and everything. If a server needed help, the manager was there to facilitate. If a customer had a question or complaint, the manager was there to listen and address it. He was a whirlwind. As a result, the staff were on point. So, do the blue shirts at Best Buy have a manager that actively oversees what they do and how they do it? Because if they do, I have never seen him or her.) The Courtesy Desk had a line, and I hate standing in lines, and the Host, who had greeted me when I entered the store, was now absent. So I looked for and found a doorway between the customer areas and the back rooms. And I stood in the way, hoping that by blocking someone's transit I could get them to help me. And it worked, sorta. This particular blue shirted boy walked me over to the shelves containing Seagate and Western Digital internal and external drives. Scanning the area, I said, "But I don't see any flash drives here." He said, "These won't work?" I said, "No." He said, "I usually work over in car stereo so I'll find someone to help you." And away he went. Looking around, I finally saw several aisles away what I wanted. However when I enquirer about purchasing an iPhone outright they would NOT match Apple's price. Just had a very frustrating experience with Chirag and AJ at Best Buy. We spend a decent amount at this store. Even though it is sometimes easier just to go through Amazon. Due to the unwillingness of managers here to do the right thing, and they're ridiculous return policies, we will no longer be regularly shopping here. Last year we were elite members so the return policies were different, I was unaware of this and made a recent online purchase, and then came in within 30 days to return some of the merchandise. This merchandise was random online, so in order to get some variety with the item I purchased, I had to purchase multiple, I definitely did not need multiple, and ended up trying to return a decent amount. This turned into a very frustrating experience, and Chirag and AJ We're willing to do absolutely nothing, and basically told me your only options are to keep it Or give it away. He told me that I would not be able to get the phone back for a couple of weeks because they would have to send it off to Apple. The representative (Stephanie) who we purchased our new iPhones from was fantastic. My husband's iPhone was stolen while we were on vacation. I did not intend to buy a new phone for myself but I was impressed with the new iPhone camera. Stephanie was very knowledgeable and helpful. I was having difficulty deciding which phone to choose. Not only did she provide a side by side comparison of the two phones I was considering, but she also made sure we knew all the details of the contract. Stephanie spent a lot of time with us and did not make us feel rushed. I have been shopping at Best Buy for many years. The reason this is not at least a 4 is the store manager, Doug. I have had conversations with him twice. He is rude and condescending, the last time we spoke, I was left in tears at being spoken to like that, especially in front of the other staff. So, for those who think the staff isn't very helpful, they are much better than their manager. So, wiping my tears away after talking to Doug I headed for the TV department where several of the guys have been extremely helpful since I moved here in October. Kudos to Jordan whom I've had several interactions with since I have purchased 2 smart TVs, a router and a few other items since October. Sorry I can't remember a few more names back there. Anyway, they asked what was wrong. I told them of my dealings with Doug and what I needed. They were very helpful and I left with my needs met. Best Buy is the only "major" electronics store in the area. They do continue to offer great products as a reasonable price but being the only game in town; I sometimes wonder if this will last. The store itself it typically clean and tidy, with plenty of staff helping customers make their selections. They have some experts in each area and if you are lucky enough to catch one of them, they will help you without fail. The floor staff are NOT on commission so that really helps them sell you what you want and not where they would make better commission and that is a refreshing change from another store that has since gone out of business called Circuit City a few years back. read more

Always asked if you need help, regardless if you purposely have a headset on so you are not bothered. Computer products are recommended before you are asked what they will be used for. They left a line of people outside for two hours past what Best Buy Corp advertised, never talked to us, never apologized. He recommended me to visit the competitor and purchase from them. He literally refused to price match. I was totally shocked. I went to the Grand Rapids location and was not only treated with a little respect. But, I was allowed to use gift cards and received the price match guarantee. Just moved to Portage and everybody has been friendly and helpful....until I got to Best Buy. I needed a replacement cord for my Google Pixel Book and wandered around the store, then through all the chargers and phone cases two times without being asked if I needed help. There were plenty of employees on the floor, but they all seemed more interested in standing in huddles than helping. I finally went back to the computer area and asked for help, and the person who helped almost ran back up to the phones. Phone dept said it would be back where we had been, and after again leaving me in his dust, we ended up where we had been to begin with. Headed over to chargers again, where my current helper paired up with someone else and they took off expecting me to follow. Since they again were far ahead, two more employees walking and talking together were paying zero attention completely cut me off and walked between us. I ended up finding something myself, but do want to commend Hannah who rang me out and got my info updated with my move. She was friendly and helpful...maybe consider putting more people like her out on the floor. read more
