Reducing my review by a start because of the unhelpful phone service. I called to get an estimate on a very specific repair request--I knew exactly what needed to be replaced. First the AI refused to let me talk to a human. When it realized it couldn't help me, the human refused to give me an accurate answer and pretended the repair would only be $99.99, which was obviously wrong. I purchased an open box laptop computer for home delivery. When it arrived the power cord and supply were missing from the box. Instead of best buy sending the cord they have me returning the computer back to a best buy store. The closest store to Lewistown PA is State College about a 40 minute drive. This will not only take time but also gas money for the round trip. I hope I will not have a problem when I arrive at the store. Made me buy two different motherboards for a pc repair because they couldn't tell me what was actually wrong with it. They've had my PC for over a month now. They said once I picked up the new motherboard and gave it to them, it would be done within a day. It's been four days and they never reached back out to me. I had to go inside the store to ask about the repair. They said they put the motherboard in and it's still not turning on. I brought it here in the first place to figure out what was wrong and none of the 15-20 potential IT/Computer science majors could figure out what was wrong. They are now "taking things out and putting them in again" to figure out what the issue is. Comical. Went or this store to buy a simple computer part, related to a modem. Once I entered the parking lot, saw I had to park 5 spaces away, as space reserved for non existent curbside customers. Entered the store, no greeter, no employees in sight. Eventually saw one employee who saw me, and quickly looked away, he was upselling a warranty to someone near the geek squad desk. Searched on my own. Looked everywhere. No luck. Passed 3 employees in a group, one was talking about crab fishing. They made eye contact and quickly looked away. Went to the registers. NO employees there. One guy at some kind of service desk. He told me where to look. Got the part I needed, no one there to guide me on differences in products. Returned to checkout. Now warranty guy and crab fish guy working registers. Crab guy was a trainee. His customer wants some 20 cent discount on his DVD, and calls had to be made, cashier had to leave checkout for like 5 min to go back to the movie section and figure it all out. Warrantee guy selling a printer, and the cust. Pays, then won't leave, spends almost 12 minutes mumbling about his computer troubles. Finally I get trainee, Che checks me out in 18 seconds, throws me a receipt with no bag, and I exit in the rain with my $58 wet computer part. Seems there is a manager, a guy in a watchcap. His picture is on the wall, including the cap. He is around, but never talks with customers. He dodges into some private door behind the registers, probably to avoid any conflict. I had a terrible experience at the State College Best Buy. At the front of the store we were told someone was in tvs who could help us (there wasn't). After 25 minutes looking for an associate, my husband went to the front to get someone to wait on us. The associate that told us someone was in the tv section came trotting back and waitied on another couple who had just arrived. I tried to explain to him that he was sent back to wait on us. He argued several times that he was sent back to wait on the other couple. As we were walking out of the store (with no tv) I double checked with the woman at the desk and she confirmed she had sent him back to wait on us. Extremely pour customer service when purchasing my new pixel 9 pro 256gb cell phone during the presale promo. They lied about the trade in and valued my phone at zero because of a cracked screen. This cracked screen was disclosed when selecting the phone for trade in and devalued my trade in by 70 dollars during the checkout process. Then they make the value zero for a cracked screen, that they said they would accept and devalued for already????? Customer service is offloaded offshore to the Philippines and they have no power to do anything. The trade in program team only has an email, does not answer actual questions or concerns and ignores statements you made and gives short 1 sentence replies that don't address the issue. I have pictures and video as proof but they just ignore me and each tell me to call best buy CS or the trade in program email with no resolution no matter who I try to escalate to or request a phone call from. Told them if they aren't going to honor the deal then I want to return it for a full credit. They said I cant because its past the 15 days policy even though they didn't even get me a trade in reply for weeks after the 14 days. Its a sad joke. They had some of their merchandise priced incorrectly and when asked if they honored the price marked, they acted like it was my fault they had the incorrect price and refused. I told them the price I was willing to pay to see if there was a different one in my price range and he showed me where they were after he changed the price of the other one and acted like I was the issue. Don't blame incorrect pricing on your customers and get annoyed when they don't want the product at a higher price. Maybe do your job right the first time. read more

No advance notice except for a voice message from the manager within 10 minutes of my appointment time. You can't reach a live person when you call and that makes matters even worse.... This store is probably the worst service I have ever experienced in a Best Buy store. Best Buy in State College really needs to get with the program and visit other Best Buy stores to see what good service really is. Summary: Left on hold indefinitely. A representative told me they DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONES. Will sell you items and repairs you don't need if you are not knowledgeable enough. You are just a moneybag to them. On the afternoon of Thursday December 31st 2020, I attempted to call this store for technical support for my Laptop. I was left on hold for nearly an hour before I hung up. After that, I called the Geek Squad and successfully got through. I had previously called HP support and they easily diagnosed the issue as an error with the RAM that could be fixed with a replacement of the RAM chip. The Geek Squad was unable to diagnose this with the same information and insisted that I would need a full tune up. I was disappointed with this. I felt as if I was being looked at as a moneybag rather than a human. That evening, I went into the Best Buy store on North Atherton Street in State College. While trying to schedule a repair, I was informed by the representative that I was speaking with that I couldn't call the store because they DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONES. That same day, I was talking to another representative about which RAM chip I should buy. He immediately pointed to the most expensive one and insisted that any of the other ones would slow down my computer. Then I told him I was not interested in buying those and would simply prefer an 8GB ram chip. No problem, he handed me his preference and I left the store satisfied with my purchase. Here's the problem. It seems like these people expect you to already be a computer wizard or something before you even walk in. He failed to address the fact (I didn't know) that RAM chip compatibility is NOT universal. It wasn't like I could look through them and find the right one even if I knew, because they are all in a locked box. Would your grandma know the difference between DDR3 and DDR4 when it comes to RAM? No she wouldn't, and I didn't either. He didn't even ask me which DDR I needed. He just handed me the one he chose and told me that it was the right one. What am I supposed to do in a situation like that? So SAY something. Stop trying to sell me the most expensive item. Sell me the item that WORKS for me. I am absolutely fed up with this establishment and I would go literally anywhere else if I could. read more

I think she knew somehow that what I had in my hand was not what I was looking for. She asked a very carefully worded question, so as not to insult me. She told me that what was in my hand is for people who are building a computer, not for a person just trying to watch DVDs. On Sunday, June 26 my daughter and I visited Best Buy to purchase some computer cables. The first associate I approached was no help. As we walked around an employee named Z asked if we needed help and I said yes please. Z was very helpful and knowledgeable in the computer section. Z went above and beyond to help us out. I was treated like crap by the staff at this Best Buy. Our Insignia (store brand) TV broke after just three months. We had the "Black Tie" warranty, so they sent someone to repair it. It took the repair people almost a month to decide it couldn't be fixed. We'd have to go to the store for a replacement. They don't make the TV anymore, so they told us we could get anything up to the price we had paid. Problem -- we got the TV on Black Friday sale. For that money we couldn't get anything as good. We told the sales manager we wouldn't have bought it if it hadn't been on sale and that it wasn't our fault the product was shoddy and needed to be replaced now when the sales weren't as good. He was unsympathetic and unswayed. We ended up giving in and accepting a lesser TV. Then he wanted us to pay more for the warranty we had already bought. Unacceptable. The worst part was how the sales supervisor (I believe his name was John) treated us. He never ever apologized for the fact that our TV had broken so quickly. He was unhelpful, unfriendly and made us feel like we were the ones who had done something wrong. Best Buy does not care about its customers. I will never shop at any Best Buy ever again. read more

Kind of a weak Best Buy if you ask me. Their selection is limited (many things aren't in stock, or they just don't have it), and the staff isn't necessarily the best at being knowledgable. I came here a couple times to find a game or piece of electronic. NEVER have I actually been able to find it because they have always been out of stock. Even when I recently preordered the iPhone 4S there, they did not have it on release date. Obviously, I went elsewhere with all my purchases and vow to myself to never come back here. This Best Buy is on the smaller side and it seems they offer much less of a variety when compared to other Best Buys. For the most part I usually only buy things from their in-house small Apple store since I can't get that stuff elsewhere in town. One of my biggest pet peeves about Best Buy is how the staff bothers me constantly in the store. This store has the most knowledgeable and friendliest staff I his encounter in a long time. They recommended what was best for me and my children. Some items were a bit more but I got more now which saved me money down the road. And some items were less stating I don't need all the extras. They cared about the best thing for me and my family regardless of price. I don't know if they work on commission, but they did not act as if they did. Honesty is a refreshing quality you don't see too much anymore. This Best Buy stands alone. This best buy is a little smaller than you expect. Nevertheless it is quite full of merchanidise and like all best buys, has all the latest stuff. One thing I will say about this place is that it is feast or famine in terms of how many people are there. If you come here at the beginning of a semester, it is packed with college kids and maybe their parents getting all stocked up on electronics. If you come in the middle of the day or during spring break or the summer, there will be more employees than customers. I like the people I have run into there, but I tend to go when there aren't a ton of college kids, so all the employees are kind of bored and always asking me if I would like some help. That doesn't bother me, but it does seem to bother other people, so consider whether you are in that group or not. They have a respectable little section of home utilities (washers and stoves and stuff). Not the first place I would think to go for that, but they do have a good bit of variety. Normally I'm there for their electronics. Their computers are pretty cheap and they have a lot of them. The computer parts section could definitely be a bit bigger. Lots of TV's like all best buys. And of course a million phones. It often seems like there's someone there trying to sell cable packages. I don't know who is buying all this cable. As far as I'm concerned, cable companies should provide internet and that's it. Anyway, it could definitely be bigger, but it's one of the places in town that I like to go when I have a bit of time. read more

If I could give this store 0 stars I would. This place is atrocious all around. The customer service and geek squad is whom I will directly address. I Purchased a Gaming desktop for roughly 1,000 from this store over a year ago. At the time of purchase I decided a warranty would be a good idea. All in all I spent over 2,500 When it was all said and done. After only a few short months my pc was having issues. "Critical process died" causing a reboot and "no signal found" When booting up. I took the pc into the geek squad and they informed me my warranty didn't cover repairs of this nature and to get "total tech support" so I did. They then updated drivers and cleaned disks. After about two weeks I got my pc back. A couple months go by and my pc starts having the same issues again. So I take it back in. They give me the same response as before and "fix" it again. This happened 3x through out the past year. Then I take it in again this July (mind you, I've only had the pc for a year at this point) and they told me I possibly had a bad hard drive so they replaced it. Exactly one month after Best Buy replaces the hard drive I once again have "fatal error" and "critical process died" and then the whole thing crashes and won't even boot up. So, once again I take it Back to BB. This time they decided to send it out to be worked on. It had almost been 8 weeks since i turned it in for maintenance. I finally heard back from them today only to find out the only thing they did when it was sent out was restore and update windows. Long story short they still have no resolves the issue. They are only trying to put a bandaid on a serious issue and have absolutely no value in their technical work. I highly recommend finding another source of tech support or purchasing from amazon instead of BB. You will only lose money and time using this place! read more

We purchased a $1700 iMac around Christmastime, and didn't have a chance to set it up and use it until the middle of January. We were past the return time (a measly 15 days, but whatever) and it was constantly crashing/shutting down randomly/ not saving settings etc. We called BestBuy to speak to a manager about trying to resolve this, but the Geek Squad employee told us that all managers were busy with customers. My fiancé responded with "That's fine, I'll wait, can you let them know that we need to talk with him/her?" and the employee told us that no, we couldn't speak to a manager, as they were with customers. My fiancé politely reminded him that we were customers, customers who paid almost $2k at their store, and would like to speak to a manager. Employee again told us this wouldn't happen, and told my fiancé he was being "disrespectful" and hung up on him. Thankfully Apple has much better customer service and has helped us resolve this problem with our defective iMac from BestBuy. I will never step foot in the store again.. Not only because they sold us the worst 2k we've ever spent, but because their employees are imbeciles and offered no solutions to a very frustrating situation (we kind of had the "There's $2k we wasted" feeling. Not a good feeling!) We'll also be getting rid of our BestBuy credit card. read more

Make sure you buy Geek Squad protection for any devices you may purchase because they don't deal with defective parts. My over the ear headphone cushion came off when I removed it from my school bag. Supposedly they want me to call Klipsch headquarters for a refund or a new headphone. Never had problems with defective headphones till I purchased this product by Klipsch. this is about the state college pa store store #369 1650 N atherton street I have a camera that is not working properly I have the extended service plan I waited in frot of customer service for 10 minutes before anyone even knew that I was there it was about 2 in the afternoon. The young man who came to help me insisted that all I needed was a new battery for $50 I said that getting a new battery would not help the poor quality of picture I was getting. He said well i guess you could exchange it for a new camera. I picked one out and when he tried to ring it up he said that he needed a manager to help but there was none in the store that knew how to handle broken cameras. I was there about 45 minutes and finally left since no one could help me . I tried calling customer support but they said just go back to the store. I asked for the regional manager's name but they did not have it and when I tried calling the store no one answered I have purchased many items from this store but I am not sure if I would be going back read more
