Solid donuts and pretty tasty kolaches - it's no Shipley's, but the prices are good and the service is quick. I've stopped by a few times to get donut holes on the way to work and to bring donuts to the office. The donut holes are not iced all the way around but are tasty. I really like their blueberry cake donuts, and when I buy a dozen donuts to go, the guy fills in the corners with donut holes for no additional charge. Loved that! No credit cards for purchases under $5, so have cash or order some drinks. read more

After sampling a couple Shipley's I never thought I'd find a decent donut shop in Houston, especially an independently-owned one. Oh Donut Man, how I miss you! But Best Donuts isn't bad at all. Their products are inexpensive and well-fried, as in, they're properly cooked and don't leave that greasy film in your mouth. If I were less careful with my money, I'd probably come here every Friday to buy donuts for the office simply for the excuse of selecting a large assortment of treats. It may not be worth a special trip, but if you've got to buy a box of donuts this is probably your best bet in the area. read more

I went here for the first time a week ago and went back again today. The donuts were as good as the first time. Consistency is the key and their donuts were as good as the first time. The place is clean and very well maintained. The staff is friendly. yAlso, the shop is in a location which is very safe. This is not a cheap donuts shop in the middle of the ghetto. Take your kids there and you will be just fine. Also, minimum credit card charge has to be five dollars. I had to get extra donuts the first time I was there and that turned out just fine. I'm not sure what's going on, but this place has been going down hill the last couple of months. The quality has gone downhill. My daughter and I both threw our donuts away this morning because they were dry and terrible. So were our ham and cheese kolaches. The staff has changed and they get orders wrong frequently. This place was worth a visit when we parked here to go walking along the bayou, playing a certain AR game on our phones! We were in and out really quickly, so this'll be a short review. The bar donuts/Long Johns are available in chocolate or maple, and can be filled with Bavarian cream on request. Husband enjoyed their kolaches - he found them to be worth the extra cash compared to some of the cheaper but lower-quality places closer to us. Everything was clean, service was fast and no-nonsense - this place seems like a real neighborhood mainstay. We might start making the trip out here more often, since our usual donut spot always sells out of our favorites! read more

They truly have the best donuts! and great service too. My sweet dog Muffin loves them too! I was taking her for a walk on Braeswood and parked my car in their car lot, I put her leash and put her on the ground while getting her sister... 20 seconds later the 5lb dog (nicknamed "devil Dog") disappered. I totally freaked out, started looking around and under the car until I heard some people just gushing over something and just heard this awww, what a cutie!!! If you are looking for a cheap place to grab some donuts or a breakfast sandwich this is the place to go. My fiance and I grabbed a half a dozen donuts here and they were very fresh! Their croissant breakfast sandwiches were also solid! We picked up some kolaches as well that were okay, but I wouldn't recommend those. read more

I work at a liquor store on this shopping strip.. and I can say I frequent this place for my breakfast whenever I possibly can. Donuts are always hot and fresh, cooked perfectly. I love the croissants and jalapeno kolaches here! Sure I could stop by MCD or whataburger on the way to work, but I find that my meals are usually cheaper, higher quality, and more variety when I decide to come to this fine establishment. My family and I have been coming to this donut shop for over 20 years--they used to be the best kolache joint in the neighborhood. I loved that this place was locally owned, and enjoyed seeing the business owners and their family grow up over the years... BUT... now I will not return :( You see, they used to have great prices, but they have been stiffly increasing them over the last few years (which I understand as the cost of living in Houston has also gone up), but the last several times I have been there, they overcharged me--their prices don't match their bright and shiny digital price board. When I mentioned this, they give me a spiel that I'm ordering something different than what's on the board, but I'm not... I have been ordering the same thing for 20 years, and what I ordered used to match what was on their price boards... If they had kept the same original backlit plastic price boards that weren't digital, I am might understand the discrepancies -- it must be a pain in the butt to change a non-digital pricing board. But with their fancy new digital system, they should be able to maintain their changing prices, or at least HONOR THE PRICES THAT ARE SHOWN. But they do not! The first couple times the overcharging occurred, I let it slide as they said they were too busy to change them, but now that months have passed, I just think they might be trying to pull the wool over our eyes -- charging extra to unsuspecting clientele, or worse: sizing up their customers and charging them differently :( Whatever their reasons are, I don't appreciate the lack of transparency, nor do I feel like they value their long-time customers. And with other locally-owned kolache shops nearby, I will not be coming back here. read more

Delicious donuts at a fantastic price. I've gone several times later in the day, so I have never tried a fresh one, but reheated they taste just as great or better than Krispy Kreme. This place knows doughnuts! I'm a huge fan. This is now the 3rd doughnut place I've tested out in Houston (which excludes Shipley's and Dunkin Donuts) and I've gotta say, the doughnuts here are excellent. They serve multiple kinds of doughnut-bases - the fluffy, the cake, and the buttermilk-cake. My favorite is definitely the buttermilk-variety. You can tell they're fresh because of the crunch from when it was fried earlier that morning. Glaze on the doughnuts are not overwhelming and not too sugary which is excellent for my taste. They've got a variety of each type of doughnut with sprinkles, chocolate frosting and also had some apple-fritters that I saw but I didn't get a chance to try them on this visit. I only came to pick up a few doughnuts, but for a Sunday morning, they seemed super busy with plenty of sitting area for families and others to sit down and enjoy their fried-goodness with coffee and other drinks. I was definitely holding up the line because I wasn't sure what doughnuts I wanted! I'm totally coming back to this place!! I'm not a big donut person. So I can't really rate it on donuts. My 5 stars is for the kolaches. I'm lactose intolerant, and there are some kolaches that ground everything together (like kolache factory). I love there kolaches bc the outside breading is made just like a roll!!! It's super fluffy and moist and isn't dry. The cheese sausage kolaches are made with cheese filled little smokies! The breading is what makes this so great! I literally bought one, went home to get more money came back an bought 4 more just for myself! read more

When there's a line inside that only continues to grow, you know you're in the right spot. Several people in my neighborhood Facebook group recommended this place, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm so grateful I did, because I just found my new favorite donut joint! Though there was a line, the two people working were extremely quick. I've never see the ladies at Shipley's move as fast as these two. There was a lot of kolaches to choose from as well as croissants and breakfast tacos. The donut options were more on the traditional side. I heard the lady in front of me order some spicy boudin kolaches, so I decided to order a couple as well as some jalapeno, sausage, and cheese kolaches, glazed donuts, and chocolate glazed donuts. The boudin kolaches were insanely good. My husband and I both devoured and loved them. They're also really filling. Had we not been little piggies that day, one would've been enough for each of us. I love that the breading on the kolache is slightly sweet and oh so delicious. The jalapeno kolaches were also good. Mine had a lot of breading, but I loved the bread. I wish it did have a bit more cheese though maybe that's, because I'm used to the ones from Shipley's. The donuts...yum! The glazed ones were my favorite, and I loved that the lady working walked to the back to snag me some super fresh ones. They melted in my mouth. The chocolate glazed ones were good, but they weren't as good as the glazed. We bought enough to last us three mornings, and it was totally worth it. I'm currently sitting at my desk at work wishing I had bought more! Oh well, another excuse to go back and be piggies again. Great tacos, great donuts, burritos, sopes, rich coffee. I am a 'Tacos al Pastor' snob, and theirs are the best I've had in Houston (dos de mais con todo, porfa). They can make vegetarian sopes and burritos, with black beans and cotija. I like the cake donas and everything with bavarian cream... they have yummy pan dulce (aka conchas) and on special days, they serve fresh champurrado. read more
