This review is based on my two-night stay from 10/17/25 - 10/19/25. I had heard great things about this place so was really looking forward to checking it out. I was also hoping to "rent" a pet from the Animal Sanctuary for the duration of our visit, but alas, checked in too late for that. I'd advise anyone who wants to "rent" a pet to call in advance to understand the process and time cut-off. I loved the room. It was super cute and well-appointed for guests with pets. There were two bowls waiting near the front door, and two adorable sleeping areas - one in a cut-out in the wall, and another a pull-out trundle-style bed. The mercantile/ store was stocked with cute apparel for pet-lovers as well as items for pets. Breakfast was also served in the store in the morning - with lots of interesting and yummy options - like vegan egg bites and chia seed pudding. 10/10 recommend this place!! read more

The Best Place For Travelers With Or Without Pets..... For our final 5 nights across the Southwest US, we stayed at the Best Friends Roadhouse. The BF Animal Sanctuary was on our schedule (at least 2 of the 4 days) and both reviews and their website looked great. Pros: - Location: Convenient, especially is you're visiting the Sanctuary. On the main road in the north part of Kanab. - Exterior: A newish looking hotel with nice views to the north and west. - Room: Excellent. Our king suite was spacious. One VERY large room included a big bedroom, a good sized kitchen and a spacious bathroom/shower/vanity. It also had plenty of space for storage and large closets. All done with contemporary Scandinavian furniture which minimizes clutter and convenient controls for lighting, ventilation and automatic shades. - Employees: Helpful. People at the reception desk and in the breakfast area/"Mercantile Shop" were all very friendly. - Breakfast: Vegan and very good. Included with the room. While it wasn't a buffet, you could order as much as you'd like. Much of it was homemade and I especially liked the "Overnight Oats". Unusual Pros: - Cats and dogs are encouraged to stay with accommodations in the room and across the property - "Barn Door" to create privacy between the bedroom and bathroom - Free laundry - Free iPad to use while in the room - Nicely equipped kitchen - Plentiful towels - Choice of full daily housekeeping, partial or none - Attractive high desert landscaping - If you'd like merchandise from Best Friends, the Mercantile Shop had everything Cons: - Bath towels for our first day were luxurious. The next 4 days were like a Holiday Inn. - Toilet paper was 1...maybe 2 ply and quite scratchy - Tissues were a bit rough - Parking was tight, especially on weekends and after 7 PM There are many places to stay in Kanab since it's a busy stop for Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, but the Roadhouse would be our only choice. read more

Third, Kanab is such a beautiful town. So many trails, slot canyons, and toadstool hoodoos that you will wonder if you even need to make the trip to Zion 30 minutes away. I volunteered at Best Friends Sanctuary and had sleepovers with 2 different sanctuary dogs "Lunchable" and "Argos" This is the 2nd time I've stayed here with a sanctuary pup. The grounds are awesome, the rooms are perfect. Check in is easy and the cookies are delicious, they even have pup treats for your fur baby. The café and mercantile store is perfect. Breakfast is a great addition in the morning and hot chocolate is necessary in the mornings, for me of course because it was chill-lay!! Only pictures I took were of these cute pups snuggling in the bed with me. They clearly enjoyed it after our long hikes just as much as I enjoyed the comfy bed. The Roadhouse is my go-to spot when I'm in town volunteering and bringing sanctuary friend for a sleepover. Apparently you get 2 lunch tickets for the Café at Best Friends when you stay here. I didn't know that and I didn't get lunch tickets either time I stayed here. I'll have to ask about that when I come again. I am OBSESSED with this hotel!! First off, my favorite thing I learned is if you don't have a dog, you can stay here, go up to the mercenary and pick a dog or bunny to stay with you for the night. How amazing is that! We did not get a chance to do it, but would definitely if we could have! This was the perfect spot to stop on our road trip. The room we had was a king bed on the first floor. The hotel is super modern and clean! The room was so well designed, bright, fun & spacious! They paid attention to little details like having dog bowls, a pull out dog bed! Shout out to Best Friends Roadhouse for turning a quick roadtrip into an incredible experience for our pups! Five-Star customer service from check-in to mercantile assistance! Our dogs also give Five-Paws for the dog park, room set-up, and a welcoming atmosphere. Words cannot express how impressed and thankful we are! We had a basic standard room with a queen bed. The bed had the cutest puppy pullout bed and all 3 of our dogs wanted to share it! The pull-out couch added extra space for our larger pup to spread out after a long drive. There was a refrigerator which was great for their wet foot. There were also 2 closets, so we utilized one for the dogs' suitcase. The entrance into the hotel room was the absolute best part. I originally wanted a 2nd floor room because I was scared one of our dogs would run out into the parking lot. But as soon as we unlocked the door on the first floor, there was a little entrance like at the dog park to avoid the dogs from escaping! I was So thankful for the extra safety measures they provided! So thoughtful! The TV was huge and the dogs loved to watch movies while we headed over to the Sanctuary to volunteer. We felt SO safe leaving our babies because The Roadhouse is extremely pet friendly. We have 3 dogs and usually only 1 dog is allowed under 20lbs at most hotels. We have a 70lb dog, 20lbs and 10lbs dog. They also provided bowls and the cutest welcome sign for our pups. The dog park was perfect. It was clean and quiet even though every room must have had a dog haha I felt so bad because I felt like our dogs were loud - to be a dog hotel it was so serene! There was a fire pit outside, too! We loved that all of the staff said hi to our babies; it really felt like home. I was expecting a basic room just to sleep, but this hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. My dogs are so happy and had such a relaxing time because of Roadhouse. Huge thank you to the check-in staff who truly assisted with our requests, thank you to the continental breakfast staff for being so warm and welcoming, and thank you to the housekeeping staff for loving our babies. If we ever return to Kanab we will absolutely stay here again. Friendly, comfortable, super clean and CUTE. We took our dog and two young kids and it was so nice to feel so welcomed! Our boys had a hard time sleeping and the walls are pretty thin. We could hear dogs barking and I know our boys were noisy. That would be my only warning- bring ear plugs! Just plan for it since you know there will be dog noise. The breakfast/space was great. There was a concert the night we got there and it is walking distance to other food. One of the best hotel experiences of my life. This is an amazing stay even if you don't have a pet, but, for any pet owners visiting or passing through, this should be a no brainer. The staff are all so kind and friendly to you and your pet(s), they were calling our pup by his name by our second day. They also accommodated us checking in to our room(s) early twice during our stay (we moved from a regular room to a suite on our last night.) The rooms are designed smartly for pets, with a little mud room entry, dog pull out pets / alcoves, etc. The dog park is also great, I would love to take my pup there even if we weren't staying here. The other thing that blew me away is the quality of the construction and landscaping at the hotel. A lot of thought was put into the design throughout, from the steel and wood cabinetry to the beautiful sandstone countertops. Best hotel I've ever stayed in! The room was so modern, clean, comfortable, and stylish. The shades are automated, the lights are dimmable. The bathroom was really new and they had really nice shampoo, conditioner and body wash from CO Bigelow in the shower. At breakfast they offer delicious vegan zucchini bread and banana bread. There is a mercantile where you can buy clothes and other items. I bought a really soft hoodie and joggers to support the animal shelter. The staff at the hotel are very friendly too. My dogs appreciated having the little dog park area to be able to wander off leash and they liked having the water bowls in the hotel room. If you are able to stay here, you are lucky! read more

I found out about this amazing hidden gem of a place when I came to town to visit the Animal Sanctuary. I arrived late mmm at night and from the moment I walked in with the smell of the wood-burning fireplace, welcoming and lovely woman who was there to check me in. The best, well one of them, was the delicious cookie they give you upon check-in. For those who are vegan a bonus for you because everything at Best Friends is vegan. These folks are so great it's hard to know where to begin! -Found me and my German Shepherd a room VERY last minute on a Sunday evening when I got a flat tire on my way to Escalante, UT and needed a dog-friendly room in a hurry. Were flexible enough to book me for two nights, but only charge me for one in case car repair took two nights to do (it ended up only taking one). -They seem to have thought of everything for dog owners, from "den" style nooks to multiple size dog beds to bowls and leash hooks and everything. -As a vegetarian I love that they have all-plant based options, down to the canned coffee with cream. -As an EV driver I appreciate they have four Tesla charging stations, and were kind enough to let me juice up so I could make the drive to Escalante after my first attempt went awry, even thought I had checked out a few hours ago and only just had gotten my car back with 45% battery. They were also nice enough to let me check out late because my car wasn't ready until 11:30 AM. -Extremely friendly staff who answered my questions about bugs that attack dogs in the area and repellent and dog-friendly hiking and all. This place was absolutely amazing. Any hotel site doesn't honestly do this place justice because the hotel from the outside doesn't even compare to all the hidden joys and beauty this place holds. First let's talk about check in: i'm not going to lie it was very busy, now of course we checked in right on time so it was to be expected that lots of other excited folks and pups were there too. Either way check-in was great we were greeted and welcomed with a cookie, map and a smile. At a pup centered hotel, patience is a must from all. Our Room: we were a little nervous when we first saw the location of our room because we were right above the stairs thinking our dogs would hear people coming up and down the stairs causing barking. This didn't happen not even once. We actually ended up falling in love with it. The rooms were pretty soundproof for the most part outside of the occasional dog that we could hear in the adjoining room on the other side of the door. Walking into the room, we were greeted with the most amazing invention a small closed space to transfer our pups from front door to living space. It was perfect to have a block between the door when we were bringing in our adventure gear as well. These rooms are perfect for all members of your family! There are speciality dog beds and secret hideouts in the rooms and everything is catered to your furry friend. But I promise they didn't forget about taking care of the humans - the showers are amazing. The bed was extremely comfortable. And the kitchenette was absolutely perfect for a multiple day adventure. The Grounds: this place is absolutely perfect for all. In front of the hotel/rooms is the cutest market space that offers breakfast in the morning and a space to work or edit those amazing photos you have taken on your adventures. Behind the hotel is the best dog park known to hoomans and doggos. It is like it's own little adventure park filled with different landscapes and gorgeous murals. There is a small park for those that need a little space or if you have little puppers, but the big park has so much space. We stayed three nights and only once did we wait for a switch out at the park to go in - otherwise we had it all to ourselves. In front of the dog park there is a wonderful fire pit that team lights each evening. You can bring down supplies for s'mores or just enjoy the company around the pit. They even have solar lights to light your path as you walk. The solar lights are throughout the dog park as well so you can enjoy your time at any point in the day. There are restaurants within walking distance and the hotel is in the perfect location to visit the Coral Pink Sand Dunes to Belly of the Dragon or Zion! read more

Don't even know where to start with this place. THE most pet friendly resort/hotel I have ever been too. Honestly can't even say an enough good things about this place, from fees, to staff, to breakfast, to dog amenities, just everything was incredible and super pet friendly. If you are visiting any of the parks in the area and have a pup, you have to stay here. You and your pet will love it! They offer doggy bed near the actual beds, two dog parks, multiple drinking stations, dogs inside the mercantile for breakfast/lunch, pet spa to clean your pup and many other perks. The one thing I did not like (but honestly didn't matter) was that the breakfast they offered was strictly vegetarian and because of that was very limited. But honestly didn't matter, because the pastries and fruits they offered was great! Don't get me wrong I really like the aesthetics of the decor and landscaping. The architecture is decidedly hip with all the wood trimmed posts and beams and the contemporary office are definitely striking and very COOL. However THE ROOMS ARE NOT COOL and not a dogs best Friend because this hotel cheaped out on air conditioners. There's a very tiny split ac unit that's not even big enough to cool down a van sized rv . Our room with the ac on set at its lowest temperature and highest fan setting couldn't keep our room below 80 degrees. The utter lack of ventilation makes all of these rooms fetid and uncomfortable fir humans and especially for dogs This hotel doesn't comply with basic habitability housing codes. Yes it was somewhat hot outside at 90 degrees when we visited but cmon they advertised it as air conditioned and it's required by state codes and we're paying for an air conditioned room at over $200 a night but yet it this place is NOT air conditioned--nor is it properly ventilated nor does it meet housing codes it's not so be advised! They definitely however spent money on room decor, landscaping and legal documents however. Another issue beyond air quality and basic HVAC is the check in. The checkin is intense requires signing forms actually requiring more signatures and initialing than buying a car or house. The legal documents upon checkin are three full pages of small print and you'll need an attorney just to check in. And the clerk rushes you through the dozen signatures which seemed very severe and pushy. Allow at least 15 minutes for check in as there's lots and lots of rules and instructions. I kinda wish that instead of the hotel spending big money on gadgets like electronically operated blinds and trick dimming lights and even an iPad that they considered the heating VENTILATION and COOLING as that's missing! For the most part there's a lot of lipstick on a avery hot pig here at Best Freinds however noble the cause of taking care of our dogs installing a real air conditioner is required. This place also fails on BASIC VENTILATION IS SUBSTANDARD--the fans are automatic and don't work. If you think this is just an anomaly and your room will be better think again--we looked at other rooms and they all have the same undersized ac and automatic fans. I guess if one wants a sauna experience this place works just bring your own cedar boards and you can have a schfitz with your best Freind! read more

Road Trip You have to stay here if you have a dog! the dog amenities aren't the only awesome thing about this hotel; the staff are amazing, the rooms are high tech, and it's a great location. Now let's talk dog amenities.... the rooms have a pull out dog bed, which was adorable and they have food and water dishes that you dog have to ask for. The hotel has an indoor dog wash station that is free and has the shampoo, towels and hair dryer also free. The hotel also has the cutest fenced in dog park. As far as human comforts... there were so many little things that I loved. the black make up remover wash clothes; the best black our shades I've ever used, which were controlled by the touch of a button; they had laundry with laundry detergent that was free of use for guests; the vegan homemade baked goods; they had a fire out back and music every night for hotel guests to mingle; the comfortable bed and friendly staff. LOVED staying at Best Friends Roadhouse! First of all, it's gorgeous. The design of the buildings, rooms, and dog park were so pretty. The landscaping is beautiful. The view is incredible. This all made our stay so much better. Staff are really nice and super friendly to our dog. It was so nice to have our dog with us, have amenities just for her, and not worry about her being a nuisance. The rooms were great! Loved the design and the bathroom was really nice. My one complaint is that the beds aren't super comfortable so that's something to keep in mind. Fortunately, the black out shades in the room helped me sleep well. One of the best places I've ever stayed! We stayed here because we had plans to go to the sanctuary and it was so cool to see the sanctuary's reach on the community of Kanab and how they are integrated into the culture. A local band performed there on Saturday night and they had A lovely gift shop and coffee bar. Everyone who works there is so kind and everything is clean and beautiful. I loved the little touches, from the dog prints in the cement to the plaque in our room that introduced us to the horse featured on our wall. Unfortunately, we could only get away for one night to Kanab. Very thankfully we choose to spend that night at the Best Friends Roadhouse. As a longtime dog owner my expectation level of "pet friendly" hotels is definitely suboptimal. Basically, if you let my dog stay and don't charge an exorbitant pet fee, I'm okay with your hotel. Cold water, dirty room, run down grounds are all ok as long as my dogs are with me. When I saw the exterior photos of the Roadhouse I was expecting very little, it reminded me of dozens of old motels I have suffered through before for my dogs. What I ended up blew me away. I have never been at a hotel that was so well thought out not only for dogs, but for people as well. The first thing you notice when you come in is a double door entryway. As the owner of a dog that is scared of everything and has a tendency to dart away when surprised I am always scared of doors and the potential for disaster. It also creates an easy option if you need to feed dogs separately due to food aggression. If you call ahead of time to make your reservation they will have your dogs name written out on a cute sign next to two metal dishes on a little mat to prevent a mess from occurring (sorry Roadhouse, the size doesn't work for hounds, we tried our best to contain their mess). There is also a dog bed that slides under the bed. My beagle found it convenient as a launching pad to get up on the king sized bed. Why sleep on a dog bed when you can take over the entire big bed. The human focused aspects of the room were also well thought out. The lights are all push buttons with varying brightness levels. When you turn off the nightstand lights there is a delay of approximately 3 seconds to get adjusted before plunging into darkness. The bathroom has sliding barn doors that are quite heavy and challenging for a hound to open on their own, always a plus. There is also a bedside iPad that is handy and has some nice information available on it. Make sure you figure out how to turn the brightness down as it burns as bright as the sun at 3am and the best solution I could up with in the moment was to put it upside down on the ground. The dog park was very well designed, a perfect size where the dogs can explore without being overwhelmed. It has multiple surfaces (grass, smooth rock, small rock) and variable heights that allow the dogs to explore without getting bored easily. The splash pad is automatic controlled by sensors on the fence. I am a horrible human being so I was greatly amused when my beagle kept on getting scared when she step on the back of the splash pad and then get near the middle and it would start up causing her to take off like a rocket. One thing that really shocked me is how clean the entire grounds were. I only saw one pile of "dog deposits" that someone had not cleaned up. I am used to treating dog parks like a North Korean land mine field. The other amenity we used was the dog bath which like the rest of the facility was very nice. It unfortunately was not quite as well thought out. Two easy changes would make it much more useful. First, some kind of aprons available so you don't look like you took a bath along with your dog. The second thing that would be helpful would be an anchorable slip lead on the dog baths. When your 55 pound coonhound decides he doesn't want a bath it can be a little challenging trying to restrain him while applying shampoo and rinse him. My dogs are staring at me wondering when they can come back for a longer visit. The staff was wonderful, giving my coonhound the attention he craves so badly, while at the same time giving my scared beagle the space she desperately needs. We will certainly be back soon for a longer visit. We might even explore the surrounding area of Kanab instead of restricting ourselves to Dog Nirvana! read more

My husband and I stayed here with our Australian Shepherd for 2 days and it was the best dog friendly hotel we've ever been to! Free parking, no additional dog fees, thoughtful designs of the hotel rooms with dog and cats in mind - including double doors (like at dog parks), clean dog beds, water bowls (which are a little small but still nice), cat play area/toy. Additionally, there's a huge dog park for the dogs to run around as well as a pet spa area if you need to wash your pet! They also have crates free of charge if you leave your dog while you go out (or if your dog isn't crate trained and is good staying alone they can be left alone). In addition, the hotel itself is aesthetically pleasing. Our room had a sofa in addition to the bed, TV, clean bathroom and towels, fancy shampoos/lotion, and beautiful views of the mountains! Walking distance to the Kenab bakery and other take-out options. Free breakfast from 7-9am including coffee and baked goods, and the store includes souvenirs/pet supplies/drinks and supports Best Friends Sanctuary, which is a great organization. The hotel is also near some hiking (Squaw trail) as well as Best Friends Sanctuary which has free tours of their enormous property or you can sign up for a volunteer shift. This place is one of the best places we have ever stayed at. Staff are super friendly and helpful in recommending go-to places in the area. Baked goods are offered for breakfast and they are very tasty and great for taking on the go. The Roadhouse is very centrally located to national parks, state parks, points of interest and various trails. We were able to enjoy our stay with our four legged family member without having to worry about our pet being there. Site has a very convenient laundry room and a pet grooming/washing room. It was very helpful after getting back from a long day of hiking to wash red dust and dirt off. read more

Love this hotel & the animal rescue organization that runs it. The hotel is an incredible deal -- the hotel is pretty new, the rooms are all very well designed with tech integrated into the rooms. Very clean rooms. Comfortable beds. Unparalleled PET FRIENDLY hotel. There's a huge, beautiful DOG PARK at the hotel with grass, a dog play fountain and more. The rooms come with dog beds and water / food bowls. The dog park was never crowded - we could easily find times to have it to ourselves. There's a second dog park for small dogs too. This a lovely hotel with a wonderful and friendly staff! We we were surprised at how clean it was for a place that allows dogs to stay. The only thing that would have put this over the top for me is if microwaves were in the rooms. We did have a fridge though and there is a microwave that everyone can use in the mercantile. If you are going to Kanab. This is the place to stay. Your fur babies will love it! read more

Amazing place to stay in Kanab! The special details and kind staff make this place so special. We stayed in the 2-story suite which was laid out perfectly for our family of four. Everything is so stylish and nice and the pet friendly details are all throughout the beautiful property. It's close to everything! We did Zion / Bryce NPs and volunteered at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. We had a sleepover with the world's most loving cat (please adopt Goldie!) which made the trip so special. Kanab is the cutest town and everyone was so friendly. Highly recommend staying at the roadhouse!! read more
