WORST TAILORING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE DO NOT GO HERE!!! I brought multiple clothing items in for alterations on May 12, including an expensive dress. I returned on May 19 to pick them up as instructed and was told the alterations were not finished. I was then told to come back again later that week, only for the work to still not be completed. On May 27, I was finally able to pick up only half of my clothing and was still required to pay for all alterations -- including work that had not even been completed yet. The worst part was the damage done to my dress. The alterations were done so poorly that the dress is no longer wearable. I took it to another alterations professional who told me the damage is likely not fixable. When I returned to show the issues and ask for a refund, I was told it was "not their fault" and refused any resolution even after trying the dress on in front of them and showing how much it impacted the fit of the dress (one side has a huge gap exposing the bra...!!!) They also held on to the other 2 articles of clothing and insisted they still tailor them. Refusing to give me a refund or my property back. When I finally returned to get them, they work they had done was sloppy and the shoulders still did not fit. One piece they did not even do the work that was paid for (adding on additional buttons), but they did hem the shoulders too tight for me to wear. All and all I am out the $115 i spent on alterations, and now have not 1 not 2 but 3 pieces of unwearable clothing. I will be taking them to another alterations place but have already been warned that the damage might be too much to fix. I would strongly caution others before trusting this business with valuable clothing. My dress is destroyed and I am out hundreds of dollars on damaged clothes and services not rendered as agreed. I had a dress for a wedding that I needed slightly hemmed and taken in slightly at the bust. I asked if it could be done in two weeks and they said they could get it done in less than one. When I hadn't heard from them in a week and a half, I called and they told me it would be ready in the next few days (I called on a Friday, they told me it'd be ready Tuesday or Wednesday but they'd call me). Still not having heard from them by that Friday morning, I went in person and my dress wasn't ready but they told me it'd be ready by 1 pm. I came back later in the afternoon, and they didn't hem the dress at all and had taken the bust in far more than we had previously discusses, so much so that I couldn't zip the dress. They told me that they would fix it and to come back at 5 pm. When I came back at 5, I ended up waiting for about 20-30 minutes for the to finish the dress. the bust now sits awkwardly and feels too tight and the work is sloppy on the hem with many loose threads. When I said that I felt that the bust was too tight, I was told that "maybe it was because I had gained some weight." Overall, this was probably the worst experience I've ever had in customer service, and I will not be coming back. read more

This place LET ME DOWN TERRIBLY! I went a week before my son's Homecoming to have his suit jacket taken in. They said they would have it ready in Friday. I went to pick up Friday early afternoon & they STILL hadn't started it! I went Saturday morning to pick it up. I had a dress tailored here for NYE. The dress needed a simple hemming and this was by far the worst tailoring I have ever received. The dress was burgundy with burgundy stitching. He used a black thread and the work was SLOPPY. So sloppy that on NYE the stitching was coming out and my now fiancé (we got engaged while wearing this dress) had to keep bending down to rip off the loose threads. We took it to his aunt who is a master tailor in his hometown later and she said this was by far the worse tailoring job she had ever seen and wanted to cry for me. Thankfully she redid it for me, but it didn't help me on the day I needed it. He also charged me $100 to take half an inch off and ended up doing a terrible job at that. Terrible quality. The people are kind, but not very transparent with pricing. I got a bridesmaid dress hemmed ONE INCH and was charged $120.. very upset, as that's half the cost of the dress. I also brought a pair of jeans in for a hole to be patched and was told it would be $45, so after paying for the dress, I've decided I will never return here. read more

I left a dress to be fixed for a wedding. I came to pick up my dress, they give it back to me and it was not done. The lady says I can "wear it" but it's still not fixed. I come back 2 days later again, she gives it back to me and said again I could "wear it"... but the dress is still not done. twice I wasted money and time and the dress was not fixed. read more

They look nice and so professional because you never had a small issue with them. But once you complain in a super nice way about the bill mistakes or other problems they will show you their real face. They lie and make excuses instantly while smiling. Because I come regularly for tailoring my clothes with them, they promised me with some discounts for future orders (which I didn't ask for) Then I discovered they put prices higher to adjust the 10% discount they gave me! Which resulted in becoming more expensive than before. I told them but they started making excuses and lying and saying oh these pants are different and those jackets are difficult and that shirt was damaged from inside! I felt so bad for being cheated and treated that way just to make a few extra dollars! Unfortunately I don't recommend them at all. Their real friend is MONEY not customers. read more

I travel to conferences for a living, have been on the road for two weeks, and ran out of clothes. I needed to get dry cleaning for a conference that starts on Monday. I didn't get in till Saturday night so there were no options. Not only was she open on Sunday, she hand pressed the clothes that I needed for Monday morning while dry cleaning the rest that I can pick up Monday afternoon. All in All, less than a 24 hour turnaround, while having clothes for the next morning. Best service I've not only had in DC but anywhere. This is a tough review to write, because I find Sue so likable. For alterations, they do a fine job but charge a fair bit more than the area standard (which is already pretty high). That said, the alterations will never, ever, ever (ever!) be done when promised. I've had every alteration completed here days or weeks late. And while this sounds like a joke, whenever I go in to drop off or pick up, I see other customers getting turned away because their stuff isn't ready. The dry cleaning is also not ready (sometimes), but what is wise is thy even when I ask for no starch, I still get starch. It damages nice dress shirts, and actually ruined a very nice dress shirt of mine that I had to throw away. It's a bummer. read more

After reading the raving reviews on Yelp, I thought I would take a dress that needed some alterations. My dress fit me well, I just needed to fix the straps because the top part of the dress was large. Ms. Sue tried to tell me that the dress fit me "tight" by the waist and in order for her to fix the straps she would need to fix the waist. Instead of helping me, she said I should return the dress even after I told her that was not possible. I found another tailor who fixed my dress perfectly for $35, when Ms. Sue was trying to charge me $75!!! I appreciate when tailors offer advice, but the fact that she wanted to charge me to fix the waist, when I never had a problem with the waist and would not fix my dress unless I agreed to her advice is ridiculous. read more

I am very upset because this place was a convenient and friendly neighborhood tailor, who once did a fabulous job resole-ing two pairs of shoes I owned. However, about three and a half weeks ago I dropped off a simple pair of black pants that needed a quick sew around the zipper. Very straightforward. I went back a week later when the ticket indicated and she showed me the pants which weren't sewn. She told me to come back in a week. The next week I stopped in, she couldn't find the pants or my matching ticket anywhere. She asked me to come by a few days later. I did last Wednesday. Again, no sign of my pants. But today, I went to pick up some cleaning, and Sue handed me a little baggie full of all the things that I'd accidentally left in the pocket of my suit jacket, including some sentimental items and a good amount of cash. Sue is honest too - I took a dress to her to be shortened and she said it would be more flattering at the lower length, which shorted her out of who knows how much money. But she was right! I have since moved out of the neighborhood (she was my dry cleaner too, also expensive but also sufficient/convenient), but I will come back for tailoring services. I have only had one item altered--jacket sleeves shortened--but Best did a really good job! I'm petite--in height, that is, and frequently need sleeves shortened. After looking around and reading reviews, I decided that Sue's shop would be a good fit for my alterations. I was in my cousin's wedding, recently lost some weight but not enough for my dress. I very clearly needed the mid-section to be let out and the top to be taken in. I saw that some of the reviews said that she missed her deadlines, which was fine, I had over a month to get my dress altered, so I figured I was okay. I went by the shop, explained the situation to Sue and tried on the dress for a fitting. Sue didn't take any measurements or pin the dress where it needed to be taken in. She told me that I would have to lose more weight and she would let it out as much as she could. She charged me up front for the alterations - a little pricey at $150 - but I paid in hopes that this dress would fit perfectly to show off my new figure. Sue said it would be done in 2 weeks - perfect. I was out of town and couldn't get to the stop, so 2.5 weeks passed before I went to pick up my dress. Guess what - she hadn't even started. She said her sister died a few weeks before - for that I am truly sorry, that is a significant loss. However, when you run a business, contingency plans for such events are crucial, it was clear that Sue didn't have anything in place. I was leaving in a week and got a little nervous that the dress wouldn't be done in time. Sue assured me it would be done in time. It was! I tried it on and the mid-section fit perfectly, whew! However, I was under the impression that I paid for Sue to take in the top AND press the dress. Neither of these were done. I was out of time and couldn't go back to either have a refund or have her quickly fix it. Luckily, my mom is pretty handy with a needle and thread and was able to swoop in the day of the wedding to fix the top of the dress. It wasn't perfect but it was a heck of a lot better. I wanted this so badly to work out as Sue's shop is close to my house and I need a lot of general alterations for my work clothes. Sadly, I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. read more

I recently moved to the area and started going to this dry cleaner because it is walking distance from my house. The prices are reasonable, the clothes are always clean, and I appreciate that they are open until 7pm because it means I can usually pick up my stuff after work. I also had 3 pairs of suit pants hemmed here and they turned out very well! I did have one problem: I brought a beaded shirt in that the owner said she would clean by hand - well, when I picked it up some of the beads had fallen off and she claimed she didn't do it. She was going to try and fix it and has had the shirt for like 2 weeks. The only other reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is that the owner is a little crazy and doesn't really understand boundaries. When you walk in she immediately engages you in some inane conversation (like it is a continuation from a previous conversation that she had with you) and you just have to stand there until she decides it's time to take your clothes. It is definitely a personal, local, neighborhoody business so you have to enjoy the quirks read more

My washing machine broke and I noticed this local shop was advertising "wash and fold" in their window. I've never done that before, so I thought I'd start with one bag of laundry to see what the process was like. Sue, the only employee I encountered, told me when I returned in 2 days to pick up the clean laundry, they'd weigh it then and let me know my final cost. The ticket she gave me said $3.50 per pound. When I returned 2 days later, she said: "It's a minimum of 10 pounds, so it's a flat $35 cost" (which ended up being $36.40 with some sort of added "customer service charge"). My laundry only weighed 7 lbs though, and the 10-lb minimum was something she did not mention to me when I dropped the bag off. I was very disappointed. It wasn't about the price -- I felt purposefully deceived. I had a bunch more laundry at home, and if I had been aware of the minimum weight, I would have brought a second bag with me. Terrible customer service - I dropped off a pair of jeans that needed part of a patch to be sewn back on the right leg. When I picked them up and brought them home (after paying $15-ridiculously high price for something the owner said took 10 minutes) I realized the work had never been done. When I took the jeans back, the owner tried to tell me that I had requested she fix a patch on the left leg. The patch on the left leg was never in need of fixing. When I asserted that it was only the right side that I had requested, she continued to insist that I asked for the left side to be repaired and then finally said she would do me a favor by taking care of the right side. I had an interview the next day and need some pants hemmed, I took my pants in at 10am tried them on and in less than a minute she was able to tell where they should be hemmed.
