A small spot tucked away at John Carlyle Drive best waxing is actually pretty good I discovered this place on yelp when I was looking for deals for a Brazilian wax and found that I could get a $45 check in discount if I am a first time customer. Julie was my waxer and she was very kind and gentle with the whole process. She was very helpful in answering all of my questions and kept conversation going during the process which helped me forget about the pain when waxing. She had great attention to detail for the stubborn hairs and told me about the wax they use - its chocolate based which was pretty cool. I had a great experience and waited only a bit after my appointment time for the previous customer to finish. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! I'm sitting here writing this review with a bag of frozen pees on my "lady parts" why because I'm bruised, and have a red bumpy razor burn rash!!! This is my second time coming back to Julie for a Brazilian wax. She uses the same technic, "chocolate" wax (as I call it) as other waxing salons around the area. The new location is very clean and she is taking COVID precautions. She is very nice and personable. Parking can be found in front of the building for about a $1 per 30 minutes. I bought the 3 wax deal and I think its a good steal. I use Silvy on Sunday afternoons and I love it. Its quiet and parking is easier to get (When you make an appointment, be sure to pay attention to the parking instructions, I didn't for my first visit and it was a shitshow). In just a few not-so-short, very loooong-seeming days, I'll be headed to the sunny sands of Cabo San Lucas. And, being that I pretty much plan on spending every waking moment of every day in my fatkini with a pina colada in one hand and my Kindle in the other, I thought it might be a good idea to head to Mexico with a, a-hem, clean slate, shall we say? I figured some preemptive steps might be a good idea. So I took to my friendly neighborhood Yelp and started doing research on waxing places. A few popped up, and after doing my due diligence, I ended up deciding to pay a visit to Sugar Baby Wax. Now, I've been getting my brows waxed for years, so the general idea behind waxing as a hair removal technique is not exactly foreign to me. HOWEVER. One's eyebrows and one's chachi are not exactly the same thing, are they? And, being the masochistic individual I am, in the end I decided not just to get my bikini line cleaned up, but to take a full on visit to Brazil. Anyway, we've covered the why, so onto the ow. I mean, the how. We're officially venturing into serious TMI territory here, folks, so don't say I didn't warn you. I don't even want to think about how many hoo-has my technician Valerie has come face-to-face with, because she was a total pro from start to finish. She asked me if I'd ever been waxed before, and walked me through the entire process when I informed her that this was my first time venturing below the browbone. She gave me a towel to drape over my nether-regions and left the room, instructing me to disrobe below the waist (I wore a maxi dress, so I just hiked it on up) and showing me that there were wipes in the changing area if I wanted to "freshen up" (which, as the conscientious and polite person I am, I really was worried about! #mindreader). So off came the laundry day granny panties, and I hopped up onto something that was reminiscent of the same kind of table-bench-thing you sit on at the gynecologist, only minus the classy stirrups. She came back after a few minutes and all the security and safety I felt with that fluffy white towel draped over my thighs was literally whipped away within seconds. The towel came off. And there I was. It took me a little while to get over the fact that I was on display like that (I'm a lady!) but Valerie was a consummate professional and never made me feel awkward about it at all. And from there on, it was pretty much what you would expect.On went the wax with a little tongue depressor-lookin' thing, on went the fabric strip, off came it all. There was absolutely no double-dipping into the wax pot (run, don't walk, from double-dippers!) and Valerie was wonderful at keeping my attention on her and not on the hair-stripping that was happening down below. She worked very quickly in small sections, and it was over before I knew it! Of course, there's one major part of this whole thing that I haven't addressed yet: how much did it hurt? If I'm being totally, 100% honest... it really wasn't that bad! Believe me, I was just as surprised as you probably are. I expected to be wincing, tearing up, and breathing in through my teeth the whole time, but honestly, it was no worse than ripping off a bandaid. Just, you know, a lot of times in a row. Valerie was really great about keeping the conversation flowing, so there wasn't too much time for me to worry about what was happening, and there were only one or two spots that stung enough to distract me from our conversation. Things did get a little bit awkward for me when I was told to hug my knees while she worked on the, er, rear-ish region (I basically just laughed obnoxiously through that part) but, again, it was quick and relatively painless. After all was said and done, I got some soothing cream stuff for my tender, but hairless, skin, and that was that! It was definitely super weird at first, but I adapted pretty quickly, haha. Apparently regrowth takes anywhere from four to six weeks, although allegedly you might start seeing a few hairs earlier than that due to hair growth cycles (not 100% of your hair has surfaced at any given point - this is also the reason why laser hair removal has to be done over a long period of time.) Either way, I don't think this is something that I'll maintain on a long-term level, but to make vacations hassle-free (which is, of course, the whole point of a vacation, right?) then hey, why the hell not? read more

So lets talk about the initial experience. I walked into the salon, to be greeted by..no one...the receptionist was there she flagged me with her hand to sit while she continued to talk on the phone the entire time. She paused her convo to tell me to sign some waiver, which I didn't, but I did fill the information out. Anywho I was met by Tammy who seemed to be rushing me, and I'm like wait a minute I'm 15 min early, whats going on? She gave me time and space to undress ok cool. Now ladies I let myself grow so I could get a really good wax and maybe that was a mistake because it hurt like hell, but moving on...i realized what I normally get is a tutti frutti and not a brazilian which is what I signed up for, she seemed to slightly irritated, but she did charge me less, which is great hence the one star. So the wax was extremely painful and HOT! there were so many hairs left behind, or just broken from the tips and not the roots. she would pull the strip and i wouldn't come off, then she would keep trying to pull it, there were parts of my thighs that were bleeding. Now, a day later, I have peeling skin around my lady parts and possible burns on my hoohah! :( read more

I've been coming to Meri for about a year and a half now, and she truly is the best. She is very professional and thorough. Instead of your traditional soft wax, she uses wax made of different types of candy (chocolate, lemon, strawberry) that she makes herself. The most important thing however, is that she doesn't double dip. Everyone knows that double dipping is gross and unsanitary and if you ever go anywhere that double dips, you should never return. The prices here are cheaper than some of the other high end waxing places I've been to, which is also a bonus. I come here every five to six weeks and have yet to be disappointed, that's how it takes for regrowth for me. She does use the strips, but it's sort of the hard wax so it's much more thorough than your average hot wax. Sugar Baby Wax kept popping up with great reviews in my search (Yelp, Angie's List, etc) and what caught my attention were comments about minimal pain. So I figured I'd give this place a try, although the Alexandria location is pretty far from where I live and work. Great experience! Meri was very professional and easy-going. There really was minimal pain! Meri explained she uses different types of wax for different parts of the body. She was explaining her method while I got waxed (the conversation and soft music helped put me at ease) because I couldn't believe how little pain I experienced. My only complaint is that I asked for a type of treatment but received and got charged for the next expensive treatment. But I'm very pleased with the results. I had my first waxing appointment with Meri last week, and I haven't had a chance to submit a review until today, so here it is! Hands down, Meri gives absolutely the best Brazilian waxes I've ever experienced. Many of the other reviews here already cover a lot of the best qualities, including Meri herself and her professionalism, her politeness and thoroughness, and this really is one of the cleanest, most meticulously cared for waxing salons I've ever been to. Probably the thing that most impressed me was the variety of waxes that Meri uses, she is that conscientious that she distinguishes the right type of wax to use over specific areas. And her technique makes this about the least painful wax I've ever had, the wax itself isn't too hot, and she doesn't immediately tear off the strip after she's patted it over the newly applied wax. Also essential is how comfortable Meri makes you, even though it takes a while because she's very careful about doing everything properly, she is such a great conversationalist that she makes the process seem as casual as getting a manicure. I couldn't have gone to Meri without the LivingSocial deal, because at the regular $60 price, the pain is a lot stronger on the wallet than anywhere else. I just went to Sugar Baby Wax today for the first time (brows, underarms, and brazilian), and I have to say I was THOROUGHLY impressed! The space is gorgeous and immaculate. The waxing room is small, but clean and cozy. There's a partition for changing, and warm towels to cover yourself. Like Alyssa, I've never been a fan of strip waxing, but Meri's technique made everything SUPER easy...and fast! It had been awhile since I'd gone in anywhere (because I'd been searching for a new aesthetician), so the hair was longer than I would have liked and I expected lots of pain, but, in all honestly, there were only two moments where I even winced. I honestly don't think I've ever received a more comfortable waxing experience. I even left without any of the standard "ouchiness" I've come to expect after waxing.
