Was excited to try the facials here because of all the 5 star reviews, but sadly, my experience was a disappointment. Even before going in, I had a gripe with the website lacking in information and prices - why not just make it easy on your customer and just include that info online?? For those wondering, we paid: - $85 for a facial with enzyme peel and extractions (Twinkle Twinkle) - $85 for European facial (Above the Stars). Was supposed to come with massaging for $110 but she forgot so we got a discount. When we got there, we were invited to a very warm and cozy space, but there was a misunderstanding on the services. I had asked for back to back or simultaneous facials (if possible) for myself and my husband. Sarah said that she could do simultaneous facials, so I took that to mean that there would be two rooms and estheticians on site and we would each have our separate treatments at the same time. But no... instead, it was just her when we got there and she led us both to the same room and said that one could sit in a chair while the other was getting their facial done. This was a bit odd to me, but I went with it... she performed an enzyme peel on my face and then put a mask on, and then my husband and I switched spots. While my husband was getting his first 20-30 minutes of treatment, I sat on a chair uncomfortably scrolling through my phone... not exactly a spa experience. And then we switched back and we each got another 10-15 minutes. It felt very unprofessional, especially at the price you are paying. In total, we were there for 1.5 hours. How exactly does that timing add up when we are paying full price for two services, I don't know. Another gripe - there was a lot of time during the facial spent on preparing and opening things while things "sat" on our faces. That is a huge pet peeve for me when getting facials because I am paying for a full hour of service, so that's what I should get. If there is a mask on my face, you can still be massaging my scalp/neck/hands at the same time. If I wanted to lay down with a mask on, I could have done that at home. Now down to the actual quality of facial treatments - meh. A week later, my face is STILL peeling like a lizard from the enzyme peel. That would be ok except that she had not mentioned the possibility of that happening at all. A few days after, my husband's face looked pretty splotchy, and he is blessed with pretty normal and clear skin to begin with. Luckily, we didn't get these facials before a big event like a wedding or something. And also - none of the products she used even smelled good and the towels were pretty rough. The towels smelled faintly like cigarette smoke to me... ick. Little things, but again, I'm paying for an experience when I get a facial and this wasn't it. Maybe she was having an off day, i don't know. But for us, we won't be coming back and will instead be driving the 1+ hour to Maryland to go the esthetician I know and love. read more

I was visiting from Germany, and one of my friends recommended Sarah at Cloud 9. My skin has been a little off and I was in need of some brow love. I have somewhat combination skin, with breakouts along my cheek and small bumps in the summer. She recommended a microdermabrasion and mask. I've never tried microdermabrasion before but it is seriously the best! Sarah is incredibly knowledgeable and relaxing and I really enjoyed the experience! My skin felt a lot better and I think it really helped! Also, there is some original art that is available for sale in front and it is absolutely delightful! :) I will remember to return the next time I am in the area, for sure! I went to Cloud 9 for the first time about 10 days before my engagement session photos. Michelle was great. She went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. It was a very relaxing experience. She explained everything she was doing and gave me some great advice on skin care. The whole experience felt very personalized. In the Heart of Del Ray, I found this gem on Yelp and cannot wait to go back! Having been in VA only one year the climate changes are definitely taking a toll on my skin. And with my bfs graduation around the corner and returning from a trip recently I knew it was time to take care of my skin! Sarah was so sweet and welcoming. It had been sometime since my last facial and she made the experience feel so warm (literally) and extremely relaxing. Sarah is super knowledgeable when it comes to skin care, and I love it when individuals share that with their clients. She asked me about my daily skin regimen, as well as what products I was currently using. Seriously can't wait to tell my coworkers all about my experience. Because one thing my office loves the most is Great -Customer Service and that's exactly what I received today. I can't believe there aren't more amazing reviews for Michelle! After looking all over the DC/MD/VA area for an affordable esthetician, I saw the few reviews on here for Michelle and thought I'd give her a shot. I've had acne problems for awhile but with the help of Michelle's expertise, patience, and willingness to combine therapies, my skin keeps getting better! She really takes the time to talk to you about your skin and like one of the other reviewers said, she's not there to sell you products. She genuinely cares about helping you achieve your max beauty potential :) I know she offers several different services (waxing, nails, facials at least) so you should check her site out. From day 1, she's been extremely helpful and very welcoming (her location is very relaxing, from the scents to the music to her presence - people are always dropping off little gifts for her too). Her schedule is always packed and she only goes by appointment, so make sure you shoot her a note or give her a call if you want to see her. If you want a nice, comfortable, and personalized experience, go see her! Plenty of free street parking near her place and she takes credit cards for both her services and tip. read more

I found Cloud 9 through a recommendation from the stylists/staff at Ann Welsh Salon in Del Ray (Alexandria). I believe Michelle, the owner, used to work there until she branched out on her own and opened Cloud 9. I've been seeing Michelle for at least a year to get my brows waxed. She is absolutely meticulous, which I love, and is incredibly friendly. All of her clients love her and she's always on time with her appointments, though I know her schedule is usually quite booked. I have recommend Michelle to a few of my friends and they all think she's great. Her prices are also less expensive than other salons in the area (e.g., Red Door, SugarHouse, etc.). I don't know how I found her, but am I happy to have!! I didn't want to go to any random waxing salon. I wanted to know that I was being taken care of. I still have yet to have my 1st appt, but her consultation deserves a rating. She didn't try to book me right away, but anticipated for my appt to go well and postponed it to a later date. She also asked me which times are good for me instead of the other way around- being a working student, it's a little difficult to make appts but Michelle made it happen. Visited for the first time today for eyebrows & I will definitely be a regular! She starts off by drawing an outline of where she will wax on your face so you can see what it looks like before she pulls anything. So comforting! Michelle is awesome! She really took the time to do an outstanding job waxing my eyebrows and paid a lot of attention to detail. I went back for microderm and a peel and she was equally as great! I had some questions about my skin and she was really informative and helpful. She's super down to earth and friendly, and I really look forward to my appointments there. As long as I have been going to see her, she has handled all of the appointment booking and you'll usually have a leave a message on her voicemail, but she's great about getting back to you and booking, confirming and will text you as a reminder. I'm so happy I found Michelle's place! I've had two facials - one with microdermabrasion and one with extractions - and I have had a waxing by her. Her facials are amazing and reasonable, and I leave with glowing skin that does not get irritated. I'm in my early 30s, have sensitive skin, and still fight acne, but it never flares up after facials. Her waxes are quick and relatively pain-free! Her pricing is very fair for the amazing services she provides. If you're in the Del Ray or Old Town area, you're missing out if you don't see her! read more

I cannot recommend Cloud 9 highly enough. I have been going to Michelle for five years for waxing, skin care and nail services. My skin has greatly improved since starting a treatment regimen of facials, alphahydroxy acid peels and microdermabrasion at Cloud 9. The prices cannot be beat (compared to salons and spas). Fantastic product recommendations. Echoing another poster...she gives samples so you can try out yourself (and tells you how to get the most out of those samples!). And when purchasing a product tell you how to get the most out of them as well! She fits you in- has flexible times - and is incredibly affordable!
