I'm surprised by the low reviews. I stayed here for one night and the room was squeaky clean. The bed sheets and all linens were fresh and proper, and the room was tidy and dust-free. This is a no frills hotel, but it provides the comfort of a clean and secure space. My room (220) was very quiet and I was able to park right outside my window. An extra comforter was provided by the receptionist since I was cold. I'm very satisfied with my stay. read more

The BW Colonial Inn is a great choice if you're in Selma. While the rooms are in great shape, keep a close eye on your GPS as you arrive--the driveway is shared with Walgreens and Panda Express, making the entrance easy to miss if you aren't looking for the sign. The property feels recently refurbished; my room was spotless, and everything functioned perfectly. A huge shout-out to the front desk team, who went above and beyond to secure my preferred room location. Breakfast is the standard "basic" spread, but totally sufficient to start the day. Just a heads-up: the breakfast area is small, so try to eat between the early-morning worker guests and the later morning tourist guests. I stayed here after Super 8 refused to let me have the room I had booked, but that's another review. The Best Western is a nice hotel. The staff were great and the room was everything I needed. The only reason I can't give it five stars is that that there are trains passing nearby constantly and they all blow their horns so I kept getting woken up once or twice an hour all night. I had a pretty awful night's sleep. Breakfast was OK but nothing special. The greasy chicken fried steak was an odd choice for breakfast. I would have prefered a potato option. They did have the waffle maker which is my absolute favorite. I didn't think much of Selma so I don't think I would stay here again. A good hotel in a bad location. read more

I recently stayed at the Selma location, and Kyle and his co-workers were top notch, very attentive, and helpful. I left some very important items behind, and the attention, and energy they put into helping me retrieve found items was exemplary! In addition their breakfast was phenomenal, they had these cute little egg bites with ham and bell peppers that went well with the Belgian waffle that I ate for breakfast, again staff was very attentive, and took time to put customers first, which says a lot, because people don't seem to have time to just be welcoming and nice, hat's off to the Colonial Inn staff, from top to bottom! read more

As I sat in the lounge of the Best Western (BW) in Selma, I overheard a fellow patron say to her husband/partner, "Give me some sugar." I was then unable to control my laughter -- or hide the fact that I'd been eavesdropping. Normally this would be a rather innocent comment given that we were all in the lounge, taking advantage of the Continental breakfast (read: carbs!). However, the couple continued with their innuendos by calculating the number of bagels they would need to consume in order to make up for "all the calories they burned last night". *Wink *wink* (I think they were talking 'bout doin' it!) Ah, this was all par for the course at BW-Selma. My BW stay was an adventure that I don't care to repeat any time soon. I had to work in Kingsburg (love it! Go Eagles!) this weekend and the company booked overnight stays at the BW in Selma. One had to be impressed by how unimpressive it is. BW building is fairly blase and is inconveniently located off an awkward 43/99 offramp, behind a Del Taco -- you have to *drive through* the Del Taco corridor (looks like an actual drive thru) to get to the hotel. A group of us were to share a suite. We easily checked in at the lobby and went up to our second floor room. Upon opening the door, we were greeted by a cold rush of air. The window was wide open and it was roughly 35 degrees inside the room. I glanced around, unnerved to find the window open and made one of the guys check to verify there were no unwelcome visitors hiding behind the toile curtains (that don't fully close). The coast was clear but the evening was far from over. I then closed the hotel window and turned the heater on to high - to only be met with more cold air. What was the obvious solution? The group of us, bundled in our winter clothes, instead huddled around the in-room hair dryer and turned it on to high - only to be met with more cold air. Nothing would heat up that room! So, I called the front desk and we were able to move into a room across the hall. I'm glad to report it was at least a 15 degrees warmer (wow! 50 degrees inside) than the first as no windows had been lefft opened. And, although the heater DIDN'T work in that room either, the hair dryer did a sufficient job of warming up hands and feet. Thus, with slightly warmed extremities, we all crawled into our shared beds and fell asleep giggling over bad cable TV. I am learning to love the intricacies of the Central Valley. That said, I will not be adding these accommodations to my "I [heart] the Central Valley" list. During my next work trip to Kingsburg, I think I'll stay at the Kingsburg Swedish Inn. They at least have have a windmill in the lobby and presumably, working central heat. read more

This is the only hotel in the area that accepts pets (extra charge of $25). That is the only reason I stayed here. I would have preferred the Hyatt or Marriot...but neither of those were in the area. The Hotel sits next to HWY 99, behind a Panda Express and a Walgreens. You have to drive through the parking lots of those businesses to get to it. The lobby smells like curry. The people running it are nice, but they obviously aren't investing any $$ into the business. The iron in my room was broken. It also looked like it was from 1982. The mattress had a distinct dip in the edge of it, where every guest has sat to take off their shoes. It indicated to me that they are using very old mattresses. The old mattress matched the old crusty brown carpeting and the very outdated orange bed spread. There was a flat panel tv in the room with cable. The problem was that it sat on a very old, low-sitting dresser, so the bed was actually higher than the TV. There was a continental breakfast in the morning 06:30-09:30. It consisted of mini-muffins, pastries, cereal and coffee. The muffins and pastries were sitting on trays that had old cling wrap taped over them so that they wouldn't have to clean the trays daily...It was disgusting. I left and went to McDonald's across the street for breakfast. At least I know they clean their stuff daily. The hotel had free wifi under the name "Linksys" and each room key had a 10% off voucher at the local Cattlemen's Restaurant. They have a very un-appealing small-ish pool in the back of the hotel. If you aren't traveling with pets, stay at the Holiday Inn across the freeway. read more

Awful, just horribly awful. Hey this place sucks. This morning, NO HOT WATER! Seriously how the heck does a hotel run out of hot water????? They no longer clean rooms daily, no hot breakfast, just some crappie brown bag of junkie sugary waste. Diminished service, NOT diminished prices. The carpet is a viral, bacterial cesspool of filth. Not the housekeeper fault, you can only vacuum so much. Pool also filthy and full of scum on walls and bottom. I recommend going somewhere else. Also manager is a poor example of customer service skills. All you hear from her is the spokes-hole manager playbook talking points. Brutal but true. Again stay elsewhere if possible, do not patronize this hotel. read more

Pros- room seemed decent enough to spend the night with our young child. Linens were clean and had a hint of bleach scent which made me feel better. Front desk attendant was helpful and kind . . Beds comfortable, fridge available and AC works. Comforter too warm for my liking but I like that cold comforter feel personally. Cons- Surrounding area felt sketchy, random's walking the halls at night and morning and outside (next day). We did however feel secure enough to not leave with our young child. We paid $139 for a good quality room but surrounding area just felt off. Hallway wasn't air conditioned therefore our room was musty hot upon arrival . We got used to the heat and musty smell as we waited for our air conditioning to cool the room. Best part of this hotel was room and customer service . Always kind and helpful. So all in all, room was good but it just all felt sketchy and I would only stay there again for a better rate like $90 and without my child just for peace of mind. read more

Stayed here for one night. The check in girl was great, very informative and sweet. I thought the rooms were very nice, clean, and well laid out. The only thing I was unhappy about was breakfast. I didn't get more than a waffle and an apple as they ran out of food before 9:30... miraculously they had more food after breakfast end time though? This hotel went out of their way to ensure my parents and future in-laws were WELL cared for. When my (now husband) and I went shopping for hotels for our out-of-town family members who were attending our wedding, every other hotel in the area acted like they were doing us a favor to even speak with us about getting our family members rooms... That is until we got to the Best Western Colonial Inn in Selma. The owners walked us to their best suites and offered us the regular rate as a special deal because we were getting married and were local folks. They made our moms (mine and my husband's) feel very special for the entire visit. If you're traveling to the Central Valley for any reason, and will be near Selma, I recommend the Best Western Colonial Inn. I have to tell you all, I had the best experience at the location last night/this morning. We left Ridgecrest after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake. We desperately tried a place to stay with immediate check in that was pet friendly, to sleep for a few hours and regroup. They had the rooms for us, for us checked in and taken care of in a matter of minutes. The rooms were fantastic and comfortable and I loved the dispensers with toiletries in the rooms as we had to leave without ours. We showed up at 10 o'clock after a 5 hour drive to check into our room. We had booked it a couple weeks in advance and had a confirmation number. When we arrived, they told us that our room was no longer available and they were fully booked. The young girl at the desk basically lied about why they gave our room away. After calling about 10 hotels, we found a room at the Holiday Inn. I don't suggest staying at this Best Western. read more

Stayed here for one night for a quick trip to the Fresno area for a family wedding. The room was very well appointed with a modern look and feel. The AC worked great! Everything was clean and the staff was very friendly. The only issue was that from our end of the hotel we could hear the freeway noise (it was not so bad that it prevented sleep) and we could sometimes feel when large trucks went by as the floor would seem to rattle. I think staying at the other end of the hall would rectify these two issues. With that said, I would not hesitate to stay here again. read more

I stayed there October 23, 2015 The owner was at the front desk and was super nice and polite. I called at 10:30 at night trying to find a hotel and was quoted a price that was a little too high for my budget. The owner worked with me on the price which was really nice of her to do. The WiFi was better than most hotels and I had no problem streaming Netflix. Overall the place was quiet and clean, and I didn't have any problems. After reading the other reviews on yelp I have to say that I cant imagine the front desk clerk being rude, she is also the owner so why would she try to make you mad? I'm amazed at the bad reviews, but yet again a lot of them are pretty old. Stayed here recently. The hotel was super nice, clean, quiet, and a lot of good shops around the area. The pool was nice ,kinda clean, the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was mediocre , but if you want a good breakfast McDonald's, Dennis, and other food places are around . The washer machine and dryer came in handy,they sell laundry soap for a $1 which saved me from a trip to the store. Ps the gym was also a good plus, had a good morning workout in there by my self . After a long day of traveling though 100+degree summer temps, we arrived to rooms that had the windows open with the HOT air blowing in & the a/c OFF. It took hours to cool the rooms down. The continental breakfast consisted mainly of cold cereal, bananas, hardboiled eggs in the fridge, or danishes. The people working there seemed nice enough. The hotel itself was a bit rundown. This review is based on the fourth time I've stayed at this property. The positive things first: staff is very nice, room is very clean and sanitized, great shower, comfortable mattress, nice to have coffee maker and microwave and fridge in the room. Now for the criticism: 1) I was shocked that there were only two SMALL pillows on the king size bed in the room where both my husband and I were staying. One small flat pillow for each of us. When I went to the front desk to ask for additional pillows, the woman at the front desk very politely told me that there were NO other pillows available and that the hotel was full. She said it is Best Western policy now to limit the number of pillows to a room. Ridiculous! She gave me a handful of bath towels that I had to wad up and place under my pillow. 2) the hotel is on the freeway, and there is no soundproofing whatsoever. The noise was exacerbated by the fact that we were on the third floor. If you are bothered by the sound of freeway traffic, then stay somewhere else. 3) the area around the hotel is filthy. The hotel is behind a strip mall and a Panda Express and people have discarded their food garbage everywhere behind the restaurant and the strip mall. The litter is horrible, and because there are no garbage cans, except for one full, overstuffed one that was turned over (probably by a racoon or other animal), people who are unable to "dine in" (indoor dining is currently closed in California) just threw their garbage on the ground. It's unavoidable driving through this mess to get to the hotel parking lot. 4) The grab and go breakfast was small and very unimpressive. I strongly feel like I was staying in a one star hotel in a seedy part of town -- the $107 that I had to pay to stay in this hotel was definitely NOT worth the money. I paid three star price to stay in the equivalent of a one star hotel. This hotel has really gone downhill. read more

A thoroughly unpleasant experience! From the lobby that smells of stale indian cooking (I like Indian food btw) to the most aged room I've yet encountered. From the appearance, I would guess the room was last decorated just before world war two. Several generations of pictures over the beds have been stolen leaving rectangular reminders of their time here. The water supply to the toilet was turned off, and now I realize why, as it leaks quite copiously. The air conditioning is the noisiest and least effective I've yet encountered. Whilst I don't care about the view, it consisted of two broken fridges, a dead washing machine, a dead aircon unit and some of the pictures missing from the bedrooms. Sleep was impossible as the aircon unit made more noise than a 747 on takeoff. We did try breakfast but elected to go elsewhere and pay when we saw the plastic sheets over the trays that held the pastries that looked years old and the counter fridge with dried on orange juice crusting the interior shelves. The waffle maker looked new and clean, but by then we'd lost faith in the management that the waffle batter itself would be sanitary. The only redeeming feature was they take pets, but we were intrigued when they charged us $25 but asked us if it shed, as they didn't want fur getting on the sheets. The price was too high for an old dated hotel with various stains on towels that and various color lets just say white wasn't white! I have stayed in Motel 6 that was better! Had to ask for more towels lady at front desk acted like it was a pain to get me more towels. Shower Had no liner and some odd stains on curtain. Great hotel and friendly staff. Rooms were very clean. However, they charged my wife and I for a night that we didn't stay there. I called and they told me the only charge they have is for our stay. The crappy part is that three days later they still are holding the money. We ended up having to cut our honeymoon short because of this. Needless to say we won't be back. 1st night check in middle of night A.C. breaks. It started to get warm In the room but my kids were sleeping. In the morning I go tell front desk who then tells me we can move rooms, great. What she also told me was: I should've told them last night so we could've moved. It was in the middle of the night umm no. Next night clean slate new room. Nope not a chance shower tub creaks every time you step around in the shower. Toilet clogs at 1030pm no maintenance but i was told i can walk downstairs and retrieve the plunger. So I go downstairs And tell then we need a snake, she said sorry new management don't even know where there would be a snake. Sure enough plunger didn't work, I needed a snake but none available in a hotel. So I just became unsanitary and used my hands to pick dig cheap outta the toilet because there was no options. And the a.c. is as loud as a car motor, which they said they fixed but didn't. And theres mold in the bathroom. Ugh!!! First time ever doubted the name Best Western sad to say!!!! read more

This is the worst best western I have ever stayed at. I travel 250-300 nights a year and have seen some bad hotels and this place is at the bottom. The room is dirty and at least 100 degrees. The lobby smells like shitty curry. The front desk employees are a bit on the asshole side and don't half understand english. Do not stay here. She said that if she gave me credit for the rewards points then she would have to pay $12 dollars per room. My room and the lobby smelled. The furniture was old and the breakfast was awful. I made a reservation at the Best Western Colonial Inn in Selma, CA last minute to visit my Uncle Bobby who had just suffered from a stroke and was very, very pleased with the exceptional service and clean and tidy accommodations, especially on short notice. Shasha, the representative at the front desk was very compassionate of my circumstances and was very, very accommodating to my needs. We arrived in Fresno at 11:00 pm thinking we were going to stay at the Hampton Inn, but a convention in town had everything booked. We drove on to Selma and thankfully found the Best Western Colonial Inn. We are giving five stars because the lady at the desk (the owner we assume) was so very kind and gracious in receiving us at a late hour and gave us a very reasonable price because it was so late. Realizing that we would probably want to sleep in, she reassured us that she would give us a room far from the other guests so we wouldn't be disturbed in the morning. We found the room to be very clean and comfortable and quiet as promised. In the morning, she wished us safe travels and we told her we would come back someday, and we most definitely will. read more
