While Roswell is generally filled with no-frills hotels that offer value over amenities, the staff members at El Rancho Palacio provide service with a smile at every turn. Whether you're talking with helpers at the front desk, in the breakfast area, or in housekeeping, you're sure to leave with whatever you need and be wished a good day ahead. After a couple of less than stellar stays at Best Westerns in other cities, the El Rancho has restored my faith that these properties can be an excellent choice for both comfort and service. A great little hotel with a family-run feel!

Visiting Roswell with the kids. This hotel is definitely older but has all the amenities for a road trip stopover. First, the best thing, the pool is 9ft deep. No small wading pool here. Decent size, and deep! I don't think I've had a hotel pool like that...ever maybe? On to the room. Average size, we also had a roll-away bed so it got cramped more than normal. Two beds, a table and chairs, tv stand/dresser. Good size fridge (twice as big as the last "new" hotel we were at), microwave (other place did t have that either), and tv were what you'd expect. Bathroom / closet area were adequate. Hot water was plentiful and good for a little soak in the tub. Honestly was a good shower with water pressure and hot hot water. Breakfast was standard fare (again, that new place didn't have a breakfast!) but good. Make your own waffle, sausage, potatoes, juice machine, coffee and other assorted stuff. Potato's were a little dull, dunno how to describe, they looked like they were soaked in grease? I liked them, but even I thought they were a little off putting visually. The juice wasn't too watered down like other places. The coffee was only one flavor but was good (I drink it black, no sugar). Have had waaaay worse. Waffles worked out ok but it's always a challenge with those machines. Overall, compared to many other hotels and options we have been to, this place was not the worst, not the best, mostly middle of the pack, even with its age. The pool gave it major points since it's hard to find something you can actually jump into at a hotel! My kids would definitely want that pool again if we went back to Roswell.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. However, the rooms are falling apart. The location of this hotel is awesome. Not to far from museums. The sink was leaking water terribly, we had to put one of the trash cans underneath the pipe. The carpet was ripped and torn on all edges and corners. The tile was nice in the tub, but it looks like it needed some caulking around the edges. Even though staff was friendly, these rooms aren't worth staying in. Two stars for the staff. Zero stars for the room.

    Spacious rooms

It was really amazing experience to stay at this motel. 110% best service they have provided in this pandemic situation. Spacious room - more than enough for two. As an elite member of high level chains, this room came in cheap at $60 a night. Clean and simple everything you need is included. very much surprised, with COVID situation they are serving this for breakfast. First night they gave us grab bags and on second day they had this box. Been traveling since last two weeks and staying at 6-7 hotels in various town this was unexpected.

Comfortable, quiet, and well-located near restaurants and shopping, the hotel also has responsive, helpful staff and proprietors.

We settled into the room just fine, it was spacious and seemed pretty clean. Aside from the window curtains needing a wash, I didn't really see anything that stood out to me as being that dirty. I checked the beds and they were both fine. The pillows could be a bit better, they were pretty flat and didn't offer much support. The "pull out" sofa sucked, it was quite hard and it was confusing trying to figure out how it folded out as it isn't your typical fold out sleeping sofa. You had to take all of the cushions and pillows off then grab two little handle things to flip the top half of the sofa onto the ground to open up the "bed" which is basically just a support box like you would put under a mattress. I also wish they had a slightly bigger trash can in the room, we have booked a suite for two nights with six guests in it and there was only one small can in the kitchenette and one small can in the bathroom. Breakfast was as you'd expect at a hotel. There wasn't a ton of seating so we ended up taking it back to our room.

This place redefines the term "hidden gem"--hidden under layers of grime and questionable decision-making. Let's start with the lobby. Nothing says "welcome" quite like stepping over a vagabond rummaging through the trash cans. At least they seemed friendly--probably better customer service than the actual staff. Oh, and the smokers' convention happening directly outside the entrance? Fabulous touch. Nothing gets you in the mood for a relaxing getaway like walking through a nicotine cloud thicker than morning fog. The room! Ah, the room. The atrociously stained carpets are clearly the hotel's crown jewel. It's like an abstract art installation that screams, "Guess what this stain is!" I tried not to look too closely--it's for the best. (See photo) Then there were the pillows. Or should I say pillow halves? Yes, you read that correctly. They've somehow managed to engineer a pillow that is both hilariously small and utterly useless. Perfect for guests who sleep on their elbows, I suppose. The bathroom light deserves its own award. It flickers on with the same unhinged energy as a strobe in a horror movie. Truly an experience--because who doesn't love feeling like they're about to be interrogated in an asylum at 2 a.m.? Not to mention the fly that was dead in the light itself. (See photo) Annnnd, how could I forget the cherry on top of this already magnificent stay? The unexpected live theater production right outside our door, courtesy of displaced neighbors embroiled in a verbal showdown. While my heart truly goes out to those affected by the flooding (their circumstances are tragic and undeserved), I could've done without the front-row seat to a shouting match that rivaled a daytime talk show. But hey, at least the acoustics in this fine establishment allowed us to hear every word with perfect clarity. Truly an immersive In conclusion, if you're looking for a hotel that makes you question every life decision you've ever made, this is the place for you. Five stars--oh wait, sorry, that's probably just the ceiling mold pattern

The Good: *Super fast and reliable WiFi *DirectTV® w/ an actual guide *Indoor pool and hot tub! *Restaurant (Oasis Bar & Grill) on the first floor. Food was actually not bad, but our expectations were pretty low, given the reviews. *Staff is really friendly *Nice gym with treadmill, bike, and elliptical, as well as some free weights and yoga mats. *Ice machine on all the floors *Keurig® coffee machine in-room (this should be the industry standard fwiw) *Dove® pump hand soap dispenser in the bathroom. While this seems like a small thing, every other hotel still uses those snark bar soaps that are kind gross imo. *AC with an "always on" fan function for white noise.
