While Roswell is generally filled with no-frills hotels that offer value over amenities, the staff members at El Rancho Palacio provide service with a smile at every turn. Whether you're talking with helpers at the front desk, in the breakfast area, or in housekeeping, you're sure to leave with whatever you need and be wished a good day ahead. After a couple of less than stellar stays at Best Westerns in other cities, the El Rancho has restored my faith that these properties can be an excellent choice for both comfort and service. A great little hotel with a family-run feel!

Visiting Roswell with the kids. This hotel is definitely older but has all the amenities for a road trip stopover. First, the best thing, the pool is 9ft deep. No small wading pool here. Decent size, and deep! I don't think I've had a hotel pool like that...ever maybe? On to the room. Average size, we also had a roll-away bed so it got cramped more than normal. Two beds, a table and chairs, tv stand/dresser. Good size fridge (twice as big as the last "new" hotel we were at), microwave (other place did t have that either), and tv were what you'd expect. Bathroom / closet area were adequate. Hot water was plentiful and good for a little soak in the tub. Honestly was a good shower with water pressure and hot hot water. Breakfast was standard fare (again, that new place didn't have a breakfast!) but good. Make your own waffle, sausage, potatoes, juice machine, coffee and other assorted stuff. Potato's were a little dull, dunno how to describe, they looked like they were soaked in grease? I liked them, but even I thought they were a little off putting visually. The juice wasn't too watered down like other places. The coffee was only one flavor but was good (I drink it black, no sugar). Have had waaaay worse. Waffles worked out ok but it's always a challenge with those machines. Overall, compared to many other hotels and options we have been to, this place was not the worst, not the best, mostly middle of the pack, even with its age. The pool gave it major points since it's hard to find something you can actually jump into at a hotel! My kids would definitely want that pool again if we went back to Roswell.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. However, the rooms are falling apart. The location of this hotel is awesome. Not to far from museums. The sink was leaking water terribly, we had to put one of the trash cans underneath the pipe. The carpet was ripped and torn on all edges and corners. The tile was nice in the tub, but it looks like it needed some caulking around the edges. Even though staff was friendly, these rooms aren't worth staying in. Two stars for the staff. Zero stars for the room.

    Spacious rooms

It was really amazing experience to stay at this motel. 110% best service they have provided in this pandemic situation. Spacious room - more than enough for two. As an elite member of high level chains, this room came in cheap at $60 a night. Clean and simple everything you need is included. very much surprised, with COVID situation they are serving this for breakfast. First night they gave us grab bags and on second day they had this box. Been traveling since last two weeks and staying at 6-7 hotels in various town this was unexpected.

Comfortable, quiet, and well-located near restaurants and shopping, the hotel also has responsive, helpful staff and proprietors.

We settled into the room just fine, it was spacious and seemed pretty clean. Aside from the window curtains needing a wash, I didn't really see anything that stood out to me as being that dirty. I checked the beds and they were both fine. The pillows could be a bit better, they were pretty flat and didn't offer much support. The "pull out" sofa sucked, it was quite hard and it was confusing trying to figure out how it folded out as it isn't your typical fold out sleeping sofa. You had to take all of the cushions and pillows off then grab two little handle things to flip the top half of the sofa onto the ground to open up the "bed" which is basically just a support box like you would put under a mattress. I also wish they had a slightly bigger trash can in the room, we have booked a suite for two nights with six guests in it and there was only one small can in the kitchenette and one small can in the bathroom. Breakfast was as you'd expect at a hotel. There wasn't a ton of seating so we ended up taking it back to our room.

There was trash and construction debris everywhere, and we often had to walk under the scaffolding platforms to get in and out of the property. We paid a high pet fee ($75) and due to the construction there was nowhere on the property to even walk the dog (who is small-10lb). The windows in the room were covered with plastic tarps from the outside, the hallway smelled of pain and wallpaper adhesive, and the floor under the new carpeting had several uneven spots. I made my reservation directly with the hotel and they made NO) MENTION of this construction and even suggested I prepay my stay to save a few bucks. I suspect this was so I could not drive up to the property and change my mind. When checking out, I mentioned that I thought the pet fee was excessive considering the fact we had to walk off the property to walk the dog, and the desk clerk said she would have the manager call me. It has been a week, and no phone call. Do yourself a favor-there are several hotels within a block or two of this property-stay at one of them.

The air conditioner barely worked. The refrigerator was plugged in and set to cold but it was not cooling and smelled horrible like rotten food. I went down first with my daughter and inquired about the breakfast. The two girls at the front seemed bothered that I interrupted their morning and didn't offer much information about breakfast other than it was self serve. We had no idea who or where to pay for it. After my husband was done loading our luggage he came in and also approached the same girls at the front desk and was treated just as rudely. They did not want to be bothered or have their conversation interrupted. Again, no info on how or where to pay for breakfast. She barged into a room where a man was in a wheelchair and undressed, demanding he leave immediately because he was in the room 17 minutes past check out. She kept telling me she was going to call the police- which would have been a hilarious phone call- what could she say, "A man in a wheelchair is having a hard time checking out on time!" My companion had a fall this morning which required three hotel workers to assist in helping him back to the chair, which they kindly did. Perhaps this general manager, Consuela, could have been a little bit more empathetic given the situation as opposed to threatening to charge me for an extra night, which she still might do given that she told me I was horrible at my job being an assistant to my companion. I do not write reviews unless someone truly deserves one. This woman deserves to experience the consequences of making a handicapped person feel helpless and undermined.
