I wish I'd gotten the name of the young Italian guy with dark curly hair and dark-rimmed glasses--he was extremely helpful with recommendations for the area and places to eat. The only real disappointment was the view: just across a narrow walkway from a residential building, with no real view at all.

However, it was relatively easy once you get it! Upon arrival, we were greeted with a warm smile but the room was not ready yet. However, given my Platinum Elite status, they said they will prioritize us first. The girl was very helpful by giving us a map and providing time estimates and where we could go while waiting. The room was alright. I found out that the AC is turned off in November but we went there end of October. The best they could do is unlock the windows for us to open it partially. Kind of surprised that HVAC systems were not readily available. I must be a spoiled American. There are water and fruits at the lobby 24/7 so that was nice. 1 star taken off for turning off the AC services earlier than planned, but most importantly for not encompassing of customer needs for a HVAC system that offers both year round!

We took advantage of their "Memorable Moment" package were we did a 30-minute gondola ride and snacks in the kitchen. I wasn't generally impressed, the food was too unique for me and I didn't eat any of it. I would return if I'm back in Venice.

We arrived very early in the morning but they held our bags for us and delivered them to the room before we got back mid-afternoon. There was cold lemon water in the lobby which was refreshing after walking in the hot weather. The tub was so deep! A bit scary getting in and out -- not good for anyone with mobility issues. Great for soaking! We only stayed a night and didn't try the buffet. Opted for light breakfast at the place a few doors north of the hotel. I had emailed the hotel before our arrival about a restaurant to go to for our anniversary and they responded quickly with a few, each with a paragraph explaining why they recommended it. A day or two before arrival, they asked if I needed anything else like flowers or any other special requests. We did try Casa Bonita across the canal and that was wonderful. Air conditioning was wonderful on the hot and humid day. We liked the quieter neighborhood and proximity to the boat stop. Local travel on the vaparetto and then the Alilaguna to the airport. The dining and cafe rooms bring old school charm while the rooms (and the bathrooms) blend that style with modern fixtures. Rooms are large. Bathrooms are well designed and spacious with sufficient hooks and counter space. Service is extremely friendly and thoughtful. When we informed the desk we would check out early for a flight and needed a taxi, they arranged a large taxi for our snowboard bag without even asking. They also offered to prepare breakfast for us ahead of their regular hours but we declined. Nice touches around the hotel and rooms for Carnvale too. Not going to reach many users as Yelp doesn't seem to be a big thing in Europe but I would definitely recommend it.

We were pleasantly surprised that the hotel manager reached out on a number of occasions in an attempt to personally introduce himself to us. We ultimately did meet Francesco and he was so genuine and personal in his eagerness to make sure that we were having a pleasant stay. And located about 5 minutes (walking) to the main square (Piazza San Marco/St. Marks) The hotel is charming! Every detail - even down to the hefty metal keys and key chains they give you when you check in. Behind the front desk is a wall of keys, when you leave for the day you leave your key with the staff. Who needs one of those silly, modern, key cards!? Our room, located on the top floor, offered up stunning views of Canale de S. Marco, the bell tower at at the square and the entrance to the Grande Canal. The room itself was simple and lovely and allowed the focus to be the view with three huge windows! The bathroom, consisting of marble tiles, a huge shower, a large vanity, was also one of the best we experienced while traveling. Other features in the room included a comfy bed, flat screen tv, and air conditioning - although we opted to open the windows and sleep with the Venetian breeze flowing all night long. We started each morning with breakfast on the main floor.... plenty of croissants and pastries to choose from. And ended each night with a glass of wine on the rooftop deck... watching the cruise ships come through the canal. While the majority of our stay was fantastic, there were a few negatives... - WiFi was very spotty. We found the best place to access it was down in the lobby. - The bar was just OK, despite being in Italy they had a very sad selection of wine. - We were also told by hotel staff that we weren't "allowed" to hang out on the patio unless we ordered something.... Even though we were guests at the hotel. I thought that was completely ridiculous. The few negatives don't outweigh all the positives that Hotel Gabrielli offer. The hotel front desk staff speak a variety of languages, Italian, French, English. The hotel is easy to get to from the auto boats (public transportation of Venice). For the auto boats stop at Arsenal or S. Marco stops. The rooftop bar is open from about 6-10pm. They have green spritz! Buffet breakfasts are good and offer meat, eggs, cheeses, juice drinks, cereals, Nutella and fruit. I would 100% return.
