It's evident, that the Gabrielli has one of the best locations in Venice for many purposes. But besides left and right are some other hotels , some also of fame , some smaller and simpler. But was is so clear for somebody like me, who loves to come to Venice for it's beauty and culture , but who comes since over 50 years more for "work", a great work in the arts, but still workout has to be also practical and the staff has to understand, if you need something special: in my case no luxury cosmetics and brilliance, but to get some help, some understanding if you sit half a day in the restaurant m bar to write, write and have a drink, to change your plans, extend your stay, or shorten it, and so on. This Hotel at this location and fame tells you by the action s and helpfulness of the staff that it is NOT A CHAIN HOTEL, it's really still family owned and run. Almost no other Hotel in Venice cand say that and act like thank. Thank you , Family of Gabrielli staff to be so helpful. And it's a short pass to get the Vaporello at Arsenale and have a quicker ride to the station than from San Marco or to the airport. And have a text when needed. Hotel Gabrielli was probably the most beautiful hotel we stayed in while visiting Italy. We arrived via boat (b/c that's how you arrive in Venice...) and were excited to find our hotel right on the water. Gorgeous setting! And located about 5 minutes (walking) to the main square (Piazza San Marco/St. Marks) The hotel is charming! Every detail - even down to the hefty metal keys and key chains they give you when you check in. Behind the front desk is a wall of keys, when you leave for the day you leave your key with the staff. Who needs one of those silly, modern, key cards!? Our room, located on the top floor, offered up stunning views of Canale de S. Marco, the bell tower at at the square and the entrance to the Grande Canal. The room itself was simple and lovely and allowed the focus to be the view with three huge windows! The bathroom, consisting of marble tiles, a huge shower, a large vanity, was also one of the best we experienced while traveling. Other features in the room included a comfy bed, flat screen tv, and air conditioning - although we opted to open the windows and sleep with the Venetian breeze flowing all night long. We started each morning with breakfast on the main floor.... plenty of croissants and pastries to choose from. And ended each night with a glass of wine on the rooftop deck... watching the cruise ships come through the canal. While the majority of our stay was fantastic, there were a few negatives... - WiFi was very spotty. We found the best place to access it was down in the lobby. - The bar was just OK, despite being in Italy they had a very sad selection of wine. - We were also told by hotel staff that we weren't "allowed" to hang out on the patio unless we ordered something.... Even though we were guests at the hotel. I thought that was completely ridiculous. The few negatives don't outweigh all the positives that Hotel Gabrielli offer. Truely a treat to stay here. The hotel is RIGHT on the water and if you are lucky, you will have a room that over looks the lagoon. It is a great place to people watch. The hotel rooms have the famous Murano (Venetian) glass chandeliers. My room was clean and well kept, an older style. My hotel smelled like pears! The hotel front desk staff speak a variety of languages, Italian, French, English. The hotel is easy to get to from the auto boats (public transportation of Venice). For the auto boats stop at Arsenal or S. Marco stops. The rooftop bar is open from about 6-10pm. They have green spritz! Buffet breakfasts are good and offer meat, eggs, cheeses, juice drinks, cereals, Nutella and fruit. I would 100% return. read more

Great hotel, friendly staff, excellent location. It is near Piazza San Marco and where we met all of our tour guides. The view of the canal is very pretty. The rooms were big, oddly distributed because it was a Palace before, but functional. Had a safe, coffee machine and fridge. Our room was very quiet although we were in front of the boat piers. The breakfast are was big, plenty of space to sit and good variety and service. read more

This hotel is in a great location! If you go right out of the hotel you are in the touristy area, with all the major attractions that anyone would want to see. If you walk out and go left, the area is less touristy, great for walking around and finding restaurants off the beaten path. The room was pretty large and the AC and internet both worked well. There is a free breakfast every morning that you can eat outside in the courtyard. From our room, we could see the sea. We wish that we could have used the roof without buying drinks. read more

Despite a few missteps, the Hotel Gabrielli stands--or rather floats--as one of the better hotels you could stay at while in Venice. I'm assuming of course--my sample size consists of one. I CAN safely say it was the first decent place I stayed at on my Globus Best of Italy tour, which I admit was not a huge achievement by this point. In its defense, Hotel Gabrielli (actually called Hotel Gabrielli--the word "hotel" is on the sign) sits on the shore overlooking a great expanse of water where one could watch silent juggernauts of tourism drift by. You step off the boat and the hotel waits twenty feet away. I can imagine most restaurants don't have such luxury, with most forced to into peering into neighboring hotels across narrow canals. Although you can assume this as praise, most rooms don't actually overlook the canal. My view was of wire mesh and forgotten vines. No, the strength in Hotel Gabrielli is the fact that St. Mark's square is a five minute walk away. Water taxies wait to take you anywhere. And for once, the included restaurant at the foundation doesn't suck worse than an Ubisoft game. Hotel Gabrielli offers, hands down, the best croissants I've ever tried. Not just in Italy--I mean ever, like all further pastries will be compared to this. And that was just breakfast... So we got soaked (I'm jump-cutting my story, please keep up). In defense of Venice, it never flooded in the two or so days we were there. But on the last day, while my mother and I were literally lost in Venice, we heard thunder. Within five minutes, I was so drenched, my descendants will be soaked. With an umbrella unable to be completely opened thanks to tight Venice roads (yes, that narrow), we had little defense against the rain. By the time we finally found our direction and returned to the hotel, we were sloshing in our clothes. I thought our Venice trip was ruined. But, with only a few hours left in the day, we decided to make one final stab at dinner. So we took in Hotel Gabrielli's restaurant. We had gotten lost attempting to find a place to eat...and a great one was underneath us all this time. Alone this evening, we enjoyed the full attention of the staff...and alas, we still suffered delays. The delivered food was majestic, just saying it took its time to arrive. The dish I'm isolating to recommend was the tuna steak. It's been said--and I have seen--that the best way to cook tuna is with extremely high heat with tuna encrusted in sesame seeds (thanks Alton Brown). Well, the Hotel Gabrielli did exactly that, and it was incredible. I'm not saying that staying in the Hotel Gabrielli is the best idea. I am sure there are better places with better views. The actual room was only average, but location and an impressive restaurant really elevates the Hotel Gabrielli, and it remains a bright spot on our journey. Prime location. You really are walking distance from many of Venice's attractions. Churches, dining, vaparettos and shopping. The hotel is quaint. 4 star by European standards. About 3 for the US. Our room was clean and adequete. Mostly comfortable. Could have used an extra pillow or two. The entire hotel is a little dated but that's part of its old world charm and lets not forget how old Venice is. The rooms were reasonably priced. The hotel has an elevator. Believe it or not, this is something you should check on whenever you make a reservation in Europe. Some of the smaller hotels and buildings are so old they just don't have an elevator. The desk staff were VERY helpful. They made some great shopping recommendations. They provided maps and a schedule for the vaporettos. read more

Our family of three had a wonderful time at this four star hotel on the main canal in Venice. Our room was very clean, quiet, and had a wonderful view of the beautiful back courtyard. The bathroom was very spacious and had a great design and luxurious features. The full buffet breakfast included many options of cold and warm breakfast items, all of which were delicious. The hotel is very conveniently located within short walking distance to main attractions, restaurants, and water transportation (vaparetto). read more

Came here on a Gate 1 tour, so I don't know how much it costs per night, but it was a nice place to say. Stayed with my girlfriend, and was odd that they gave us two twin beds smashed together. I don't know if this is a European thing or not, judging by the second hotel we went to, it is. Anyway, our tour guide said pretty much every hotel was at least $400 (euro) per night on this "board walk", and so I am guessing it was about that much. It was amazing. Right on the boardwalk, so that is pretty amazing. Easy to get to everything! The ferry/busboat can take you to Aresanal stop, and then you cross a bridge and you are there. Staff seemed friendly and professional, although we didnt really ask much. The tour guide said Gate 1 was booking gondolas for 150 euro a person, but the hotel front desk staff told us you could get 1 gondola (4-6 people) for 80 euro before 7 pm and 100 euro after (also, I am guessing it is cheaper later in the day as well). They also told us the location of the local grocery store (because we are travelers, not tourists). Tourists buy 1 liter of cold water for 3.5 euros. Travelers buy 2 liters of room temperature water for .17 euros at the grocery store down the street (Coop). Smart travelers put their bottle in the cooler in the store for a while before buying it!!! As for the rooms, they were decent. Like I said, 2 twin beds smashed together. But they also had great views of the lagoon, usb ports for charging phones, and nice, clean bathrooms (or banyo?). Roof top bar is incredible, but overpriced. They also have outdoor seating for their restaurant on the ground floor. Great thing about Italy is that there isn't the rush to leave after eating. Italians/locals eat a late dinner (8/9 pm), and take it slow, and then maybe enjoy a spritz or a glass of wine with friends until midnight or later, and just people watch. Since its so hot during the day, this is an incredible time tondo so, because its warm, but the sun has gone down, and taken the humidity with it! All in all, I would stay here again, baring the price.... I'm not made of money haha! read more

Wonderful location with truly breathtaking views. We booked a room on the front which boasted views over the lagoon. You're never sure what it is going to be like until you arrive. The room, location and views exceeded all expectations. We plan to visit again and would certainly request the same room. Staff were most helpful, nothing being too much trouble for them. Ideal location for visiting. The roof terrace has 360 degree views over much of Venice and was wonderful for viewing one of the water festivals which was part of our reason to visit at that time of the year. We had a wonderful room with a fantastic view over the lagoon. The bed was comfortable and big enough. The room did not exactly have all the mod cons but then part of the charm of the hotel itself is tied up with its long history. The roof terrace was also a great place relax and take in the breathtaking scenery. The staff were very helpful and efficient. The checkin and checkout process was very smooth. The breakfast had a range of food that catered to the tastes of myself and my wife (continental and cooked). The small courtyard eating area for breakfast was a charming way to start the day. In terms of location, you are within easy walking distance of St Marks Sq. and the Arsenale Alilaguna stop is also very close, meaning the trip from the airport is essentially hassle-free. read more
