This hotel to tough to rate because there are many good things and many bad. Our suite with a king bed, fridge and fireplace was great. It was spacious, and the bathroom must've been recently renovated and had all the modern necessities. The bed was quite comfortable. Our second story view was wonderful, from both the front and the back of the room. Having the hotel right in the Hot Springs Park is a real plus, as the park is beautiful and made for pleasant walks. Our biggest issue is the lack of proper air conditioning in some of the rooms. We had family in other rooms and one of them had to suffer through being hot with no A/C for 3 of 4 nights. The smell from the hotel's mineral spring hot tub is sometimes unbearable. Sometimes it stinks to high heaven, and other time seems to not smell at all. A good tip would be to bring a candle for your room. The staff was at times ambivalent. An example would be them making us wait to check in. We arrived only 20 minutes before the 4PM check-in time, and were told as a matter of policy they won't check anyone in before 4PM. A seemingly silly policy (if it's even a real thing) because it caused a needless line of folks waiting to check in at 4. The evening cookies were wonderful, but the breakfast was tasteless. Love the old building look. It's very country inside, but that's okay. There's a separate living space from the bedroom which is nice if 2 different people watch 2 different shows or one needs to work. It's average cleanliness. The pillows are foam squares that are very uncomfortable and actually hurt your ear. The bed is so hard and uncomfortable that neither one of us got a goods night sleep. We had a couple check in after us and leave before us that was staying above us and they were up ALL NIGHT walking from livingroom to bedroom to livingroom to bedroom to bathroom, having sex at 3:30am with the headboard banging the wall for an amazing amount of time, then back to livingroom then one in the shower while the other paced again. Pretty sure they are tweakers. We could hear them talking even :-/ We would never stay here again nor do we recommend it. read more

It's very clean and well kept up for as old as the building is, and the staff is incredibly friendly. The rooms are decently quiet and the bathroom is very nice. The bed was not the most comfortable and the room could use some new flooring. My family was split on the breakfast; some liked it and some didn't. I had the unfortunate experience of staying at this hotel in September. I can't think of a single positive other than the location was near where I needed to be. It was the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed. I wore socks in the room and they were black and tossed each day after walking on the carpet that was stained and gross. There was an inch of dust, crumbs and debris under the bed and kids toys. (Discovered when I unfortunately dropped my key on the floor) The bed pillows were throw pillows in a pillow case. There was no housekeeping, so I scrounged the unlocked maids closet for clean towels, tissues, etc. during my four day stay. The ice machine was broken, so I had to ask a staff member for ice from the kitchen area. After seeing the full fly traps and sink of dirty dishes I did not partake in the continental breakfast. I would not even ask my worst enemy to stay here. My family checked in, had to wait awhile because there was no one at the front desk. We made it to our room to find it dirty with broken items. There was a multi plug charging station which was busted with exposed wires. The mini fridge leaked water all over the carpet. The pull out sofa was very old and the mattress was deformed. The king bed was hard as a rock. Called the front desk, to fix the broken electrical items, they said they would fix them but never did. Place also reeked of sulfur because of the spring. My room was nice and quiet. The mineral pool was a treat: bring your bathing suit. Breakfast was ok but the coffee wasn't. The floor unit a/c was working hard to keep the room cool on a 78 degree day. Great location. The closet, which was carpeted, smelled of mildew so I didn't feel comfortable putting anything in there. The shower had barely enough water pressure, not enough to wash big hair. read more

The hot tub is amazing. It is not ooen 24 hours as advertised...even the welcome letter in the room says 24 hours. However it does have ample hours. Mattress merely ok but pillows are awful. Walls very thin and doors are noisy when they slam shut. Breakfast was awful. They say weekend served until 9:30...not really. Was there by 9:15 and everything was cold...only a spoonful of the dregs of scrambled eggs. Sausage cold and tasted off thought biscuits and gravy might save the day...nope. cold hard biscuits and what might have been good gravy was cold. read more

We stayed at this hotel because it was supposed to be one of the nicer places and near the hot springs. Well, it was near the hot springs, but the hotel stay was terrible. We got there and our room was over 100 degrees. Management said that they were having some trouble with the AC but would get a portable AC unit to your room shortly. After asking them every hour or so I had finally had enough and went back yet again to see if we could get that AC unit. He straight up said "Sorry I lied to you. I hate lying to customers. But you don't get one." After a bit more pushing, I finally got him to give us a box fan from their kitchen. Finally with the box fan in the window, we were able to get our room all the way down to 88 degrees by 5 in the morning. As a bonus we got to get blasted with the smell the hot springs all night. It was the worst night me and my family had ever had in a hotel. On top of that. The pool was broken. The ladders were loose as well as the handrails. The longer I sat around the more broken stuff I saw. Most of the place was in disrepair. Both the pool and the hot springs were shut down while we were there because "the chemicals aren't right." The only thing this place had going for it was there was a pretty good breakfast. A little more than your normal continental fair with stuff for biscuits and gravy and breakfast sandwiches. Letting management know all these issues they just said sorry. They didn't comp the room or even discount it. I sent a formal complaint to them through their website. They contacted me several weeks later saying sorry but too bad. They won't do anything but would give us a discount at our next stay. I asked them why would I ever stay at such a terrible place again? Nowhere near where I live, and it was awful. After that they have ignored me. Totally disappointed and frustrated. I urge you never to stay there and to let everyone you know that might that they will be sorely disappointed. And frankly screwed out of good money for a terrible stay. You'd do better to just pitch a tent in the park next to it where everyone let's their dogs go, get woken up in the middle of the might by sprinklers, then face a 50 dollar ticket for illegal camping. It would be a better stay and cheaper! read more

What a nice welcome after staying at other hotels. Clean, professional, and comfortable. The cookies were a nice treat too. They do have a pool and a mineral spring you can get in. That one does smell like sulfur, but as others said it doesn't smell in the rooms. The lobby just makes you feel relaxed and at home when you walk in. *this is an historic hotel and they don't have an elevator, so if you can't do stairs make sure you are on the ground floor! Also the stairs to get up to the 2nd floor are outside (in the courtyard) so it might be harder tromping up them with luggage in the winter. I say that mostly for older adults, they might offer luggage assistants too- not sure. The hotel is next to a park with horseshoe pits and the teepee fountain ( on the left side ) it is a short walk and worth checking out. The suspension bridge is about .3mi away. No fitness room, you can use the one across the street for $5. Free breakfast in the morning. Large shower and bathroom. If I'm traveling through again, I'd stay here for sure. The front desk is incredible. We have stayed two different times. The first time we did a suite. It was great with a separate bedroom from the living room. The second time we did a regular room with two beds. It was nice with a pool view! We came in late and were happily greeted by Trevor (who has a pretty awesome beard)! The spa is open 24 hours! It is a mineral spa. Pool closes after Labor Day weekend. The breakfast is pretty good for a continental. They are really accommodating with special requests. We will be coming back for sure! It was clean and comfortable and it had character and history. Love the shampoo/soap collection offered as they are vegan and mostly organic and smelled awesome. The staff was very nice. I think one lady was named Anne, she was very nice and helpful. There is no reason to have the pool closed....just because of covid. Just open it. It is silly to close it. It doesn't make any sense what so ever to close the pool. Other than that, we loved our stay. read more

Sooooooooo BAD! wow! I booked the king suite with fireplace for 4th of July weekend and because of holiday the room was very expensive. Well over $500 for a two night stay. The room reeked of dog urine or some kind of pee! The AC was broken. Mind you it's 95 degrees. I have a swamp cooler hooked up in the bedroom (ghetto!) and nothing in the living space to keep us cool. So I call to complain to the front desk they say they can do nothing for me but send the head housekeeper up. She comes up with a bottle of air freshener. She also tells me that this room always smells. She says she thinks it's the bats. So apparently The hotel has a bat problem?! Shame on you all! You know that room is awful and you rent it out anyway. Also best western customer service sucks! After a dozen phone calls with the corporate office and the front desk I expected to at least be discounted for this pissy smelling room! They offered me nothing but a bottle of air freshener and a vacuum. I'm grateful that they allowed me a full refund to leave this funky hotel! I have stayed at his hotel a lot in the past. There aren't a lot of nice options in Thermopolis, Wyoming, and this one has been pretty good. My last stay was in June of this year (2021), and like a lot of the recent reviews, the air conditioning was not working. At 3 am, it was still nearly 90 degrees in my room. Because of a conference in the small town, there weren't other options for the two nights I had to stay there. The manager on duty on the morning that I checked out said that he would be refunding the cost of the room as I hadn't been able to sleep because of the heat. Three months later, the new general manager refuses to return phone calls and still no resolution. I've been very patient and polite. What type of business can operate with a manager who won't return phone calls? read more

Disappointed. Experience was quite negative. We checked in early evening and although our room was clean we did not have any towels--none. Then the AC did not work at all. It was 80 degrees in our room, and that temperature did not change throughout the night. We kindly asked for assistance and we were met with a curt response about how there was nothing that could be done because the facility person was not there. We were told this has been an issue with some of the room. I did ask a few other guests about their AC, and was informed that they did have working AC. It seemed to us that the room we were given should not have been assigned to any guest. Additionally, during breakfast, there were no forks. We asked, and were told glibly "guests must keep them in their rooms" and then the person pointed to some plastic sporks that we could use if we wanted to. We are not unreasonable yet this experience was so bad that we called the hotel across the road to see if there was availability. read more

I've reviewed this hotel in the past and just have to do so again.... GREAT place to stay in Thermopolis! Hotel itself is adorable in a historic building, very unique. Had the added hot spring tub in which to soak as well. The rooms are very clean and well appointed, also really cute and up to date across the board. Beds are really comfortable as well which can be hard to find in some hotels. Water pressure is amazing in the shower too, LOVE older hotels for this and this one has some of the best! Staff is also always friendly. But here's the BIG one and why another review....while staying, it snowed over night and was in the teens. Rental car company didn't bother to give me a scraper and because I was there for work and therefore wearing work attire (very unhelpful in snowy conditions ) I was keenly aware my trip out to the car and to get moving with the icy windshields would be very unpleasant. I get outside and not only is the parking lot in great condition but the front desk clerk was outside cleaning everyone's car off!!!!! Snow was removed and the ice on my windows already scraped!!!! I have never experienced this in all my travels! What a great staff!!!! read more

The location and history of this hotel is the only things good. Had to switch rooms because the tv did not work in ours so ended up with a room not as nice. Bed and pillows not comfortable and the stomping from the folks above us with the squeaky floor just added to the no sleep at all. Breakfast was not edible unless you grabbed something pre packaged. Thermopolis is an undiscovered joy in the middle of Wyoming. The area is beautiful and there is something special about the town. The Plaza Hotel is indicative of that something special. The renovation and maintenance of the 1912 hotel shows the care that the management has. Rooms were clean, free high speed internet, continental breakfast and a 104 degree soaking spa, fed from the hot springs nearby. It's a little far from Yellowstone and the Tetons but it would be a great getaway for a longer trip. read more

It is wonderful to see the adaptive reuse of this beautiful historic building. Rooms are very small but well maintained and furnished. Price was exorbitantly high at $260/night. Take the five star rating with a little salt this isn't the plaza in Manhattan. It is however a very nice hotel in Thermopolis, WY. Thermopolis is famous for its hot spring state park. The ride from Casper is boring and magnificent. This hotel is next to the park and has its own mineral spring tub. The water is fantastic and worth the trip by itself. We came in January so we had the run of the place. Its pretty small but it has an old historic feel to it. We got a suite for just around $100. It had a very nice siting room area with great wood post furniture. The room looks like it had been refurbished recently. This is a terrific little getaway for a couple. I stayed at the best western plus plaza in Thermopolis Wyoming. The first person told us to check out in the morning, so we did. The lady at that time then said that a room was 150,000 points. There's no way. She then said she did not know how to do use points to pay for a room. We then Asked about travel cards. She laughed and told us she didn't know how to do that either. My husband works at best western and would have been happy to help show her how to do either. However she just laughed at us. We have been loyal customers for so long and I do not believe it is right for Alyssa from the front desk to chose how we pay for our room. I am disappointed and will no longer stay at best westerns if this is how they treat their guests. read more

Don't pay attention to those that commented on the sulfur smell. It's nothing in the rooms. I travel often for business so I try to find the best hotels. I don't normally stay at Best Westerns but this hotel was great. Very clean and nice staff. Great pool outside and lots of parking. Only complaint is the noise from others entering or exiting their rooms. But since it is historic they can't change the hotel much. Also they don't have a gym but lots of parks or gyms nearby to exercise. All in all I will stay again. read more

The hotel was ok. If you can tolerate the strong sulfur smell from the hot spring in the courtyard. The rooms were clean, breakfast was good, but the hallways served as echo chambers (likely due to the unique, ci. 1918 layout of the building.) Overall, not a bad hotel. read more
