Except that I am an author, I barely have the words to adequately pen this review. I'm going to do my best... bear with me and please don't judge if it's too long. I'm telling you now... its a VERY long review. So... my team and I decided that we were going to release my 2nd book before the holiday season began. That meant that the book would be written, edited and submitted to Amazon KDP (and other book selling platforms) all before November so that we could have about 150 copies printed for our live book launch on November 20th. I was planning to do ALL OF THIS, (and party-planning a fancy schmancy book event) simultaneous to running my small NYC based consultancy where we focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. Oh...small stuff. It's not like we're busy with tons of clients in 2021 trying to get DEI&B right. We've not exactly been just "sittin' around." Well, what do you know. We were NOT ready to go print on before Nov 1st. Oh nooooo. Just to see where the boundaries of our stress level threshold really lay, we LITERALLY called Bestype FIVE DAYS before the book signing event. #Five (5). Read that again. We were biting nails and sweating cartoon sized sweat bullets, but SOMEHOW all 150 of our BEAUTIUFL BOOKS were printed and packaged gorgeously and ready to pick up two days ahead of our book signing event. YAY!!! Right? Oh no... keep reading. And then the unthinkable. On the evening that I picked up the books we realized that we'd SENT THE WRONG MANUSCRIPT to be printed. It was filled with errors and it was a book THAT COULD NOT BE SOLD. Panicked, (and CRAZED) I called Bestype ON THE MORNING BEFORE MY EVENT. Not only did they reprint my books (right manuscript, less quantity, but more than enough) ...they did so ON TIME, had the books packaged and couriered to me and they communicated with me the entire day ...every step of the way. I have never, EVER, EVER seen service like this. And whilst I pray that I never need this kind of manic, "you've got to be OUT of your mind" help again... consider myself BLESSED that I found Bestype. Trust me, I plan to write until I die. I will be coming back to Bestype again, and again and again. Specifically, my TREMENDOUS thanks to John, Tony and Emily. There is a graphic design guy there too (I didn't get this name but I think he is a wizard of some sort). They are a BEYOND professional and experienced and I we were blown away. I designed a bridal shower invitation for a client and was able to get white ink printing done here. Not many printers will do white ink so I was lucky to be able to print it locally. I took off a star for it being expensive. Otherwise, I was happy with the quality! read more

Not the place for small orders. 5 pages was $60 and would take 3hours. I don't like rating places low. But I simply had a two star experience, and people should know that small orders could be handled better here. They seem to be doing fine with the large orders. I tried print 5 large (24"x36") 1-page documents for a project. Price quoted was $15. Then the price doubled to $30 because it was rushed, fine. I left for 10 minutes and then came back and spent more time in the store sending files, only to be quoted again that now it would be $60... and "rushed" would take 3 hours. The girl at counter was new, but issue was no one stepped in to quote correctly or act sooner and it was a wasted 20 minutes. I only write reviews when I really mean it... but I have been dealing with a lot of printers lately and this business stands out by FAR, so I need to take the time out to give this place a shoit out! Bestype is super efficient in every way! I had some posters printed there for a theatrical show I am producing and the quality was stunning! Bestype offers fast turn around, (next day) a clean and organized shop, friendly staff, and the prices were very competitive... I was lucky enough to speak with the owner as well and he was super nice and went above and beyond to make sure I was a happy client. It is difficult to find businesses in NYC that don't have that NYC "I don't care" attitude, Bestype CARES and you will find no attitude here. We have used a wide variety of Bestypes' services now for years and have always been pleased with both the service and the end product.

I really needed a nice, professional, affordable print of a digital painting I did to present in class, so I shopped around and found Bestype. At first it seemed great - I called them up and was thrilled to find out that the price was going to be right in my range and that they could have it done and ready for the next day, since I contacted them bright and early. I was told to submit a .pdf online with more detailed instructions, so I did... at 11:50AM. At 5PM, having not heard back from them, I decided to call and ask what was going on... Perhaps they had just gone on and decided to start printing the job. No, no. I was informed that there had been no follow-up because they "didn't have the kind of paper" I wanted - which, by the way, was just watercolor paper. I mean, wouldn't you think to respond and inform a potential customer of this? Offer them other options? ASK them what they wanted to do, what was more important - the print paper or the time deadline? THEN, to top things off, we spoke for a moment and I told him that I would settle for untextured paper, and the man I spoke to on the phone asked when I needed the job done. I said Noon, but that I could push it back to 2PM, and he informed me that it could only be done "later in the day"... I would not have been angered to pay a rush job premium, but I wasn't even offered, it just simply "couldn't be done". He didn't offer any faster alternatives, different or faster printing styles... He didn't care. And that is the big issue. Maybe it's because I wanted a single print, but they advertise that they do single print jobs, and were helpful and willing to cooperate when I first called around 11AM. What changed between 11 and 5? I will never request their services again - I would rather pay 3x as much for a print elsewhere than be treated the way I was today. How unprofessional. read more

EDIT: I amended my original review of Bestype simply because of how well John, the manager, handled the situation after my review. He immediately got in contact with me and offered a full refund of the print job, and was so extremely courteous about all of it. He even offered to work directly with me on any future print jobs. While my first experience wasn't the best, I'm glad that I can contact John in the future for any printing--he is obviously extremely committed to customer service. Hopefully I can work with them in the future and give them more stars. I didn't even expect anything to come of a yelp review, and I only wish I reviewed my experience sooner! Thank you John! _______ I had a pretty bad experience with Bestype, despite their stellar yelp reviews. I had a week to print my portfolio for an interview, and so even though they quoted me $250+ for two books to be printed, I was willing to take the dive just to get them printed at a good place in time. When I went to pick up the prints the day before my interview, I found that they had botched the printing--the entire portfolio was a page off. I had even included page numbers in my document so it didn't make sense to me why the print job was off. They said they would re-print it, but asked me to come in another day to review the misprinted job with them so that they could print it correctly. Basically, I had to go into my interview without the correctly printed portfolio and it took the another week to reprint it. No refunds, no discounts--just a lot of wasted time and about $275 gone for prints that should have at least been done on time. I wish there was more consideration for the money that I was paying for the jobs, and at least better customer service. read more

Bestype is great! We have always used them because they are close to my office and always produce great quality printing, but I recently had a wonderful experience with them that deserves a mention. I usually work with Stephanie, but recently when I emailed her about my office's project I received her automatic out of office response. I needed quick assistance so I called the office, and Dane, another Bestype employee, was glad to take up my project and help in Stephanie's absence! He was very nice throughout our email correspondence and knew exactly what I needed. I was able to pick up several proofs the morning after we discussed the project, and when I made a final decision on my company's holiday cards (700 of them), they were ready that same day! i needed a mat trimmed about 1/8 inch around. i hit up pearl first, but they don't trim mats. they suggested shield press down the street. shield sent me to bestype. i love how the neighborhood framers/printers share the love. so bestype was quick and painless. $5 for the trim. the staff was super friendly and they seem to have great rapport with regulars. read more

I went in yesterday around 5pm and explained I needed to have a couple of prints made. I was told "come back in tomorrow between 11-12 and we can assist you". So I show up today and said time with several pieces of cardstock and a thumb drive with the specific files on it. I needed to make two prints of which I had all the parts, literally just needed their printers. The guy behind the counter begins to help me. Unfortunately he was not knowledgeable about the orientation or direction of the paper in his machines He wasted four pieces of my $5 a piece cardstock before he got the direction right. (To me it seems logical to do a test-run with at least one piece of paper to at least make sure the paper us going in the machine in the right direction). At this point he shifts gear to help another customer and leaves me waiting...and waiting. He returns after 15 minutes to help me again. Once again he messed up the direction of my print. (At this point my print has come out on the back of the card twice and upside down twice). So i express frustration with how he is handling this situation. He tells me that they are not set up to handle these types of one-off jobs. I told him I was unhappy with the way he'd been handling my job and told him I expected more out of a professional printer. Furthermore I returned the day after, upon their request, when they said they'd have more time to help me. Then...he says "I've got a 600 dollar order in the printer now that I cannot mess up". If you need to print something, do yourself a favor and don't do it at Bestype!! Especially if a guy named Carl is handling the printing. Before sending files to print, I called to the shop and consult with one of the representative. I was told that printouts will be done the same day, all I need to do is just send the files. So I sent them 8 PDFs which were named in numerical order. When I came to the shop, Carl told me that apparently it has to be a single PDF with all files combined. Not only that nobody mentioned that on the phone when I spoke to them before sending files, but when I kindly asked Carl to open PDF Pro and just drag all files there, which literally would take 2 second, he said it will take him too much time and he will have to charge me $75 for that! So I had to go all the way back to my office just to combine files and send them over again. The only one thing I like about this place is the location, it is very close to my office. And that's why I decided to give it a second try few days later. I regretted about it 45 minutes after I sent them files (combined this time!). It was Carl again...he told me that handling time is 45 minutes. I needed those prints urgently so I called them back in 45 minutes exact and was told that Carl is at lunch. I asked why Carl didn't give this order to someone else so it can be done on time. A person on the phone didn't even make an effort to find out the status of the order, all he was saying is that it's not his fault, he blamed me that I yell at him, which I did not. Finally I got my printouts, the graphic was shifted and they couldn't bind it, because again, it takes to much time to set up a machine and they are not willing to do so. They, however, charged me $50 rush fee... They probably have 7-10 technicians working there, but nobody would lift a finger to satisfy a client even if it takes just a little extra effort.
