VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. My old girl collapsed, went rigid, terrified, contorted and grabbing into the floor for dear life. It was really scary. My whole family was afraid she was dying and that this was it. We called in the morning on a Friday and they told me we had to make an appointment. I explained that my dog was dying on the floor and we needed to bring her in now. They said it would cost me extra if I refused to make an appointment. This conversation escalated to where Bethany Animal Clinic's rep Gwen, was screaming at me at the top of her lungs. I was in tears. She actually insinuated that if my dog dies it would be my fault because of the time spent on the phone. Gwen was horribly rude, uncaring, unprofessional, ridiculous and just mean. Why did she have to SCREAM at me? When we arrived, everyone there was cold and mad at us. Just super awkward. This doctor Dominquez came in with a condescending angry demeanor. They took good care of my old girl from that point and she is doing great these days, thank goodness! :) However, Doctor Dominquez called me to tell me off. He started right off with that he was not calling to discuss anything with me. Nothing was up for discussion. He told me I would have to pay their fees no matter what. (as if THAT was the issue lol) He talked to me like I was a child. Telling me he did not want to listen to anything I had to say when I brought up his rep screaming at me the way she did. He said he would let her know I thought she was unprofessional. LOL He had no apology and refused to talk with me at all and told me to come pick up my dog. When I went in to pick her up...I calmly let Gwen know how offended I was at her screaming and insinuating that if my dog dies it would be my fault and Gwen just rolled away from me on her chair and started talking to a colleague like I was invisible..like I was not even in a conversation with her. She had no apology either. So rude! Dr Dominquez was there when we arrived and was the doctor that treated my dog but refused to meet with me and hid in the back the whole time. This was all such an awful and sad experience and the unprofessionalism of the entire team made it even worse. I have been a customer of this clinic for 15 yrs or so and I am appalled at the treatment start to finish. Customer service was non-existent. Empathy or sympathy was non-existent. I will never go back to these cold, unprofessional, money grabbing people again. read more

I'm not normally one to write reviews on places... but Bethany Animal Hospital has done more than enough to warrant my time to type this. June 17th I had to put down my second rabbit for a health issue I had seen in past bunnies, so keep in mind I was already fairly upset as it was when I walked in there. I had seen it before and already knew putting him down was the only solution. Dr. Brown herself is amazing and has always shown my rabbits, and by relation myself, the utmost sympathy and care. However, where my problem lies is with the Vet Techs, Secretaries, and the online system which they use for files and transactions. When payment was being arranged at the appointment on the 17th, not only were they seemingly having a mental plateau with THREE different vet techs trying to sort out the system and payment, but I was actually then accused of not paying for my past rabbit I had put down there... over two years prior. I still have a hard time accepting his passing to this day, and being there to have to put down another of my babies on top of that really set me off. Once I told them that wasn't possible as I had picked up his ashes and paid when I did back in June of 2020, they realized the mistake and flippantly shrugged it off, continuing on to take payment from me. They bring my card back a few minutes later, they put my rabbit down, and I leave a few minutes later to go home. I figured I would just receive a call in about a week to pick up his ashes and that would be the end of it... boy, was I wrong. Three days later, I get a call during which I am then accused of not paying for this PAST euthanasia and cremation just three days ago in the amount of $172. I check my bank, and on my end the charge went through and was posted for exactly $172, the charge in question, so I told them I'd contact my bank and get back to them once I had an answer. As if that response didn't please them, I received a barrage of calls and texts every single day afterwards, while I was working, to the point that it even messed up what I was doing for work on a few occasions as I work using my phone. I finally heard back from my bank and they told me that Bethany's credit company refunded the charge and it wasn't posted to my account until then, so I called them and told them I would pay it when I brought one of my other pets in for an appointment they had in two days, and I would pay both bills at once. However, that still seemingly wasn't enough for them, as I received a further barrage of calls from Bethany, with no shortage of snarky and rude voice-mails from the staff, of which they were STILL accusing me of not initially paying the bill... I did, and their system refunded it. That was supposed to be put in the notes, as was every update I had given them through the process, but evidently their system can't even handle saving a simple note. Just today, I get a voice-mail from them during work, informing me that they are now going to charge my card for $344... without my authorization. There are multiple issues with this -- one, it's illegal and I don't know if anyone has told them this, but you cannot charge someone's card for an unauthorized amount without prior clearance from the card owner. Two -- the bill was not $344. Their explanation of the amount was, in very snarky terms on their part, that the charge never went through and then their system PAID me an additional $172. That is not at ALL what happened, as the $172 was first withdrawn from my account and then refunded afterwards, canceling eachother out. There is no way to possibly explain that I now, for some reason unknown to me, owe $344 when I have had no services done through them since. I have had to lock my bank card, put a hold on my account, and have contacted my bank to inform them of what is going on. It was bad enough that they found it morally acceptable to harass someone for payment after they just had to put down a pet they'd had for years and were EXTREMELY close with (that rabbit saved my life in many ways on many different occasions) due to an error with their own system and to no fault of my own, but to then try and charge me double because they have zero understanding of accounting and how to do a simple math problem? That's not even mentioning the legality of what they basically told me they were going to do without any input from me in the last voice-mail I received. At this point, I think after everything Bethany Animal Hospital has put me and my family through this past month, I should consider the initial $172 refund a refund for their poor customer service, lack of sympathy and understanding, inability to admit their own faults in their system, rude and snarky attitude and voice-mail, and harassment I received by method of text and phone call barragement practically every day during my work shifts. Please, do yourself a favor and never take your pets here. read more

Bethany Animal Hospital is not our usual vet only because they are not located anywhere near my house, but twice now I have been in a bind and they have been extremely helpful and kind and taken care our pets needs. I was really impressed with this vet. The staff here are very friendly and experienced with many different kinds of pets. The facility is also well kept and not very crowded. My boyfriend and I brought our juvenile bearded dragon in for a visit last month, when she started showing signs of having parasites. Bethany Animal Hospital is among the few in the area that treat reptiles, and the veterinarian was so friendly with her. She made sure our little dragon was in good health, and gave some medicine to help get rid of the parasites. She is back to normal now and happy thanks to the vet here. read more

Took our three cats here for two years while my partner was studying at NIU. Dr. Corson was our vet, and not only is she so sweet, but she is definitely active in the veterinary community and was always telling us things she'd recently read or learned at a conference. One of our cats has pica, and he had surgery here to remove some hair ties he found when we moved into our apartment. He also had a number of trips to the emergency vet in Aurora, and Dr. Corson was always so kind when she called us to follow up. After doing some research, we decided to try putting him on prozac, and she was super supportive of us trying it. She called us right after receiving our email and immediately called in a prescription. All of our cats also got their teeth cleaned here, and we boarded them several times when we were out of town. The boarding staff sent us photos of them and always had something nice to say when we picked them up. The boarding room is cat only, and they also have a feline-friendly waiting area with dim lighting and music. read more

We moved to Dekalb in 2014. This is the 3rd vet we've used. First 2 were inefficient and inconsistent. We find that Bethany has folks who are both kind and efficient. Prices are probably high end of normal range. My only issue is that there is no after hours emergency service. We had to drive to St Charles in a snow storm to get help for our dog who got sick on a Sunday morning. But, I don't know of any other vet that provides emergency service in this area either. Meh, I felt very little compassion from the vet here when I brought in my ailing senior male cat. All she could go on about is getting his teeth cleaned. Yeah, to the tune of $1200 bucks!!!! The vet was like; "Oh, he has a condition which will not allow normal sedation and a specialist needs to be used and she only comes in once a month, but it is worth it". Sure I get it. Just not now. So I said my finances are tight and will consider it. The vet disappeared and came back with 2 estimates and told my I had to sign them as I was declining the services. HUH??? Did I just step into a car repair shop??? I have to sign some legal BS so I can leave??? Another time I called to see if they a special type of food for my female cat. The receptionist said they did. I get there and speak to the [vacuous] girl at the front desk and she is oblivious as to what I am talking about. Then this trippy women comes from the back and explains "Oh, We don't carry that, but this [more expensive] food is better." Yeah, better for your bottom-line. Face it, This clinic is after the cash and not the care. As are many of the other vets in Sycamore and Dekalb. I wish I never moved here. read more

All in all, amazing vet to take your pet. Positives: I have always left feeling reassured and confident, the employees fell head over heels for my dog and have always given him the utmost care. I have always been able to ask as many questions as needed, and never left feeling rushed or like the job was "half-assed" for lack of a better term. Dr. Brown has been amazing with my dog and always tries to find the option of treatment that fits our needs and his. Given there are times you just can't afford certain treatments, unlike other vets who pressure you to do the treatments anyway, they don't judge, but explore your options and work with you. I highly recommend BAH for your pet, and don't doubt they'll get the best care and you'll get the best service. Negatives: None. I would say the fact that they're one of the more pricey vets in town could be perceived as a negative, but pets are expensive. And you get what you pay for. Pay the money for quality service and ample knowledge/experience. read more

Dr Dominguez is phenomenal. He spends a great deal of time, care and concern getting at the root of any issues your pet may have. You never feel rushed. He follows up with timely phone calls for labs or X-rays or next steps. He is truly a wonderful veterinarian and provides knowledge and compassion to those who cannot speak their concerns. The Bethany office staff are all consummate professionals who reflect the wonderful attributes that Dr Dominguez and the other veterinarians impart. If you don't bring your precious pets to this establishment - you should as I cannot speak highly enough about Dr Dominguez and Bethany!! read more

Yes, the staff is very nice. They were very helpful and accommodating and handled basic veterinary needs without incident, however I realized there was a problem with veterinary care when, after four visits, and $1300 later, I learned that my cat has a stone in her bladder. An x-ray would have revealed that but wasn't taken until the fourth visit. Two vet techs plus a vet from two other veterinary hospitals said that they would have taken x-rays during the second or possibly third visit. Not the fourth. Each visit at Bethany cost over $300, fourth one over $400. If her stone doesn't dissolve, surgery will be necessary. Second opinion vet put her on pain meds while we wait to see if prescription diet does the trick. Bethany didn't even suggest or offer pain meds. New vet's quote for the same surgery is 50% less than Bethany Animal Hospital. I wish I knew then what I know now. read more

I would never take another pet to this vet. Nor would I recommend it to anyone. My dog, she was 15 years old, and very very healthy, nothing wrong with her insides, didn't even have trouble moving or arthritis yet. We called May 6th or 7th to set up an appointment there, and the next available date they gave us was May 29th. Which we asked them to have a sooner date, they told us they would call us if there was ever a day available. But never did. So we took the date. My husband and I were short for money, so I used paypal to sell things online and to get donations from my friends to help me pay for my dog's surgery. I ended up getting the amount for the surgery, which was about 800 + dollars. My dog had a lump on her side, and it was growing. We decided to call the hospital a couple days before the surgery because that's when we officially had enough money, and we found out there is a rule on paypal, that you could only take out 500 dollars per month. Obviously we had more than that. So on June 1st we would be able to take out money, which was 3 days later, and they would have their money in entirely. We would have more than half to give them. They told us no, that they couldn't do it. We asked to speak to the person in charge, and they also told us no. We asked to do a payment plan with them, and they said no. That it was against their policy. My husband told them that we did a payment plan with them before and they told us, "Oh. Well we weren't supposed to do that. Sorry" We told them we would show them the thing on paypal and that we DO have the money and can show them the funds in the accounts, and they said no. We had NO other money except for that, and they told us no and that our dog would have to wait, and they moved her date to June 3rd. On May 30th, 6:40 AM, I went to bed and I petted my dog. To be woken up at 10:40 AM by my husband telling me to please wake up because our baby wasn't doing so well. She was breathing really hard and she couldn't even move properly. She's a VERY active dog, always running around, and all she was doing was breathing, didn't even move in the car ride, and she LOVES car rides. We took her to Prairie animal hospital because we were just informed about them the other day by a friend. Turns out that the thing on my beautiful dog's side was a tumor and it clotted. (which the vets at bethany, even though they took THREE samples of it. said that it was probably just fatty cells and she had 3-6 months to get it removed) And when it clotted, one shot to her brain, and my beautiful, active, baby dog, basically was an inactive vegetative set. My husband and I painfully decided to put her down, but when we took her off the oxygen, I lifted her head and petted her and she looked at me, and passed. I didn't even get a proper goodbye. I've had my dog since I was 8 years old, I'm almost 24. And I lost her because these insensitive vets were too greedy. My Ebony passed away the DAY after her should have been surgery. The other vet told us that if the thing was removed, this would have NEVER happened. This vet took a gamble with their life because they wanted their full amount even though I KNOW many people have done payment plans with them, and they misdiagnosed my poor baby, and I lost her. It's been almost a month, and it's taken me this long to write this because I've been crying myself to sleep everyday and having breakdowns. I've raised her since I was a little girl, from Chicago, and moved to Dekalb, to be with her, she's not had anything wrong with her, and always been healthy. When we went to the other vet, and even though she was dying, EVERYTHING WAS OKAY. SHE DIED IN MY ARMS. When we called to cancel our appointment at Bethany, we told them that Ebony died. And the doctor had the NERVE to call us 3 days later to tell me he's sorry. It was the most cold message I ever heard, he tried to tell me he wanted to prevent all this, but CLEARLY you WOULD HAVE TRIED HARDER WHEN WE CALLED YOU AND BEGGED. So THANK YOU bethany, my dog had a good 5 years left, a good 5 years to spend with her, and if I would have known her days were numbered, I would have DONE SO MUCH MORE THAN I ALREADY DID AND NOW SHE'S GONE. F THIS PLACE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE, BECAUSE IF YOU'RE NOT RICH, THEY DON'T CARE. YOU SHOULD HAVE A VET BECAUSE YOU CARE, NOT BECAUSE YOU ARE MONEY HUNGRY A-HOLES. I miss my Ebony. EVERY DAY. So, thank you bethany, for not doing your best, and breaking and crushing my family. I have 2 cats, and they WILL not be coming here. and everyone I've told has told me this hospital is full of crap and this hospital is the "Where your animals die" hospital. Go to PRAIRIE. I transferred my cat from an emergency clinic to Bethany Animal Hospital after he suffered a urinary blockage on a Sunday. Dr Stover was very caring, and thoroughly explained my options. She regularly called me with updates, and I felt that he was very safe in her care. Upon his release, she went over the home care instructions, including the medicines and food she was sending home with me, along with a printout of everything for reference. She called to follow up a day later, and I had some questions for her. She gave me the reassurance that I needed. She is also planning to follow up with me in a week, and we have an appointment in 4 weeks to check on his progress. I cannot say how thankful I am to have taken my cat to Bethany Animal Hospital. The staff there are very friendly and helpful, and Dr Stover is by far the best veterinarian I have ever worked with. I thank her for taking such good care of my Thomas!! read more

DOG OWNERS BEWARE! My dog died a slow excruciatingly painful death due to the incompetence and malpractice performed by the "veterinarians" at Bethany, especially Dominguez. I brought my dog to them several times over the course of 3 weeks and I authorized them to perform every test and treatment they requested, spending well over $2,000. And they still were unable to properly diagnose my dog. I have no idea what killed my dog, and neither do they. Bethany had no problem charging me $60 for a "progress exam" to see my dog when there was no progress. They are money hungry at Bethany, one "veterinarian" would prescribe medication A, then a different "vet" would come in and prescribed medication B leaving me with actually throwing away expensive medication. Again, $2,000+ spent over 3 weeks with many appointments and the clowns at Bethany still can't tell me what killed my dog. Save your dog and go to Valley Vet or literally anywhere else, they certainly won't ever see my second dog. read more

If I could give this place a negative 10, I would. If you would like a place where the prices are high and you are just a number and they lack compassion, then this is the place for you. My cat was lethargic and did not eat or drink anything all day Sunday. On Monday at 8am I called Bethany Animal Hospital which is the place where I take my cat for his care. I explained to the receptionist what was going on with my cat and that I would like him seen as soon as possible. She stated they were full and I could go in at 11:30. Since I had to work at that time, I was given an appointment the following morning. Thinking perhaps my cat had a bug, I put him in a quiet room with food and water and went to work. When I came home, I saw that he did not touch his food and water and looked very weak. I called Bethany Animal Hospital again and explained that I had to bring him in and that his condition worsened. She put me on hold for almost 10 minutes. When she came back to the phone she told me that they already were seeing an emergency and that Dr. Schelkopf said for me to bring my cat in in the morning so they can do some tests on him. I was so upset, I told the receptionist that my cat has not eaten for two days, was very weak and that this was an emergency and they expect me to wait until the morning before they see him?! I told her to send me my pets' records and I was not going back there again. Within minutes I received an e-mail with my pets' records. WOW! There was no I'm sorry or anything else. I put my cat in the car and headed for a 24 hour emergency care facility. As I entered their parking lot I heard my cat take his last breaths. I took him in and they checked for a heartbeat which he had none. They pronounced him deceased. I lost it. While I was driving to the 24 hour emergency facility I got a voice message from Dr. Schelkopf, who was the Vet on duty that told me to bring my cat in the next morning. This is his message: "I was hoping to catch you. Lauren filled me in that you called and I apologize that we weren't able to get you in this evening. We had two critical emergencies at the time that you called. My concern is that we weren't able to offer you the care that Sammy needed and so rather than have you sit here and not be able to be seen I thought the best thing for him would be obviously go to an emergency clinic since we close at 7:30. So, um, certainly we want you to come here and if you didn't feel comfortable doing that and feel another clinic offers better options I completely understand that. From my position I wanted to touch basis with you and make sure Sammy is doing ok and if you had any concerns or questions to potentially answer for you. I certainly wish him the best and I want to make sure he gets taken care of and if I can do anything tomorrow please feel free to let me know here at the office." When I got home without my cat, I heard this message. I was furious. During my call to them, nothing was mentioned about coming in, nothing was mentioned about telling me to go to an emergency clinic (I decided this on my own since my cat was so distressed). Since I requested my records, I felt his whole message was a way to cover his previous actions. It was nauseating. This morning I received a call from their manager. After I explained to her what happened, you hear the usual 'I'm sorry for your loss. We are not an emergency clinic." BUT WAIT, the receptionist said they had an emergency(one). And the Vet said they had two critical emergencies. WHO DO YOU BELIEVE?! Was my cat NOT an emergency? Maybe they should think about having more doctors during their evening hours. This afternoon I received a message from a Dr. Michael Schelkopf (part owner) wanting to speak with me. I never returned his call. Now that my cat is dead they are calling because they are concerned. Where were they when I needed them last night?! I regret going to work yesterday. Had I realized the severity of his condition I would have taken him to an emergency facility immediately. This will bother me for a very long time. I couldn't go into work today. I have been crying all day over the loss of my cat. There is a lack of communication there, they treat you like a number instead of being compassionate and when you go in for an appointment, they are always trying to up sale you every test and product possible. Word of mouth is a powerful thing. I plan to let all of my friends and neighbors know about this experience. read more

My family has been taking pets here for most of my life, and now that I'm an adult with my own pets, I bring them here as well! The staff are friendly and knowledgable, and they really truly care about your pet's health and well being. They've also been very caring with our new puppy. He had been having seizures about a month after we adopted him, and after giving us as much information as possible, they prescribed him medication that has left him, so far, seizure free! They have also always honored our free wellness exams after adopting a new family member from the local shelter. I'll be continuing to bring my pets here as long as I still live in the area! read more

Brought in a pet for emergency services. They took him, improved his condition and sent us home, saying they would keep us updated with a call in an hour. Three hours later, no call, we had to call them, only to be told the doctor was out and they would call back later. We finally get a call back and were told that our pet had died. No updates, no warning that he was getting worse, no chance to comfort him. They need to be more sensitive to pet owners during hard times. read more

The care provided to the various canine companions I have entrusted to Bethany Animal Hospital, in general, has been splendid, and the particular care and surgical expertise by Dr. Dominguez has been truly exceptional time after time--and dog after dog, too. He actually hand-crafted both rear joints out of metal for my Beagle on two (2) separate occasions when she discovered in a very painful manner that she cannot fly (off of a 6 foot tall rear deck). The "take-offs" were good but each landing definitely wasn't and, thus, a broken leg time that Dr. D. had to repair and did so well that you can't even tell were broken just by looking at her now. Not even a limp: now that's amazing to me. Even rather exotic conditions like Diabetes or a brain tumor doesn't thwart his ability to correctly diagnose and properly treat these conditions. Are Dog was sick and we usually go to Praire view so we called them they told us there were no openings and maybe we could get in later and they would call us well we are paranoid people so we called Bethany they said yes you can bring him in but there's a urgent care fee which we didn't care about a fee we want are dog heathy so we went there they got us right in did a exam and all the tests the doctor told me do you want a estimate on all these tests I said it doesn't matter how much it is the Doctor was great DR Brown went over everything with us X-rays and all the blood work didn't get picked up when it was supposed to so we had to wait a extra day but the doctor said she would call us from her home the minute it came in to give us peace of mind this is the kind of place I want to bring my kids cause that's what are dogs are to us you never want to go to the vet unless it's a checkup but if you have to its good to know there's a place that will be there for you and also they waived the urgent care fee thank you very much for giving us peace of mind and taking care of Geno we will be switching are vet to Bethany.. It took sometime to be ready to write this review. We had to bring in our angel Sadie on January 23 of this year to be put to rest. Sadie was sick with renal failure. When we arrived we were put in a room of which I called the death room. We waited for what seemed like an eternity and finally. They came in to insert a catheter. Well the associate who they sent in, didn't know how, after the 3rd time of sticking Sadie's poor little paw she got it in(meantime Sadie was totally terrified.) Most dogs do not like the vet and she was extremely fragile. Well after that we waited again for what seemed like forever for the doctor to come in and put her down. Absolutely no sense of compassion was felt from them. So if you don't want your sick and dying dog tortured do not go there. I feel like Bethany Animal Hospital in Sycamore Il. is the worst. Their prices are simply out of control. I can get into a whole bunch more, but isn't that enough. read more

This place is the worst place I've ever gone to. After paying 300 for them to simply inject fluids into a kitten and not attempt to figure out the issue. After a few days her health started to decline I called back and they told me to put her down. So I went to prairie view, they did every single test Bethany did plus a fecal exam, blood tests and medication for literally half the price. Bethany cost $295 for putting fluids in her and prairie view cost $150 for double the treatment. NOT TO MENTION THEY TOLD ME TO PUT HER DOWN!!!!!! They should not be vets, and I never suggest taking your animal there, EVER!! read more

Bethany Animal Hospital could not have been more compassionate, accomodating and professional when I called with an emergency. My dog collapsed without warning. They let me bring her in immediately, helped get her from the car and waited until I got there to get the info so they could treat her more quickly. Unfortunately I had to let her go but they made an awful experience bearable. From the front desk to Dr. Dominguez they were outstanding. I will return under better circumstances with my other pets. read more

I think it says something about the level of care they provide that they don't do after-hours care for "small animals." During "business hours" they're pretty good, but if your "small animal" - including a cat - gets very ill over the weekend, you're SOL unless you can get to Rockford, Aurora, or St. Charles. read more

I have had to bring my pets in for emergencies and for regular appointments. The staff is always very kind and empathetic. My pets are never nervous coming here and they are always well taken care of. The thing I really appreciate is that the vet always follows up a few days after the appointment to make sure that your pet is doing better. Took care of my dog in his last days. The Dr. even gave my dog a blood transfusion from HER OWN dog. I would never go anywhere else. They are seriously the best. You can even call them for advice for free!!! read more
