We had to visit a storage facility on Saturday and my wife wanted to stop by and get their Groundhog cookies; we did end up purchasing four of them but a lot more. Let me start with the deduction of one start - their paczki was not, to me, a paczki, it was just a jelly donut. It was a good donut but not a paczki from my experience. We did get to of their cupcakes...amazing. I got a Boston Crème cupcake and my wife got a Burnt Almond cupcake; both were amazing...buy a dozen. We, also, got their Whoopie Pie/Gob with the chocolate on it...also amazing; this might have been the best thing I had but it is hard to say because the cupcakes were so good. The young lady who helped us was a gem and she was accommodating without being pushy; she was great. The store was pleasant and we plan to return next time we go to our storage facility. read more

I went in an hour prior to their close...their baked goods on the tables were almost all sold out besides a few stragglers but luckily they had plenty in their cases. As I waited thinking not very many people were going to make their way in quite a few others made their way in. The girls behind the counter were helpful and did not show any annoyance with a sudden rush an hour till close (honestly better than I). I got 2 red velvet cupcakes (back), turtle cupcake (front left) and almond raspberry (front right). AND 2 Betholis. So there is literally NOTHING that I don't love about Bethel bakery. Their seasonal goodies are my favorite, especially pumpkin season and paczki season goodies! Burnt almond torte is a classic Pittsburgh dessert and I believe Bethel Bakery has one of the best. We love the pumpkin pie cupcakes that are a seasonal item on their menu during the fall, and it's tough to pick a favorite baked good from here considering how much we love everything they have! A recent favorite was the chocolate chip cookie paczki. It's a Polish fried donut with buttercream filling, but get this, the buttercream filling had blended up chocolate chip cookies in it! It was truly a special treat that will be hard to top. Check their Instagram for the weekly paczki flavor. One thing we've appreciated recently about Bethel Bakery is the option for curbside pickup. There's a nice big assortment of baked goods here! My favorite things are the lady locks, chocolate paczkis (when in season), and the white almond cake with raspberry filling. Most of the items I have purchased here all were tasty especially many of the "small bite" pastries. The dough of the doughnuts were less exciting for me but the fillings were generously and tasted fresh. On the last visit, quite a few people were there; I noticed the ladies behind the counter were very patient and waited on each person as the customers picked and chose from a large selection of goodies from the glass display. I have to say, I just wasn't too impressed. First off, I found the donuts confusing. There was a self-serve case at the beginning of the line, so I thought that must be all the donuts they had, so I got 3, not knowing what they even were--and then later found more interesting ones in the regular bakery case, but didn't feel like I could just say oh I don't want these lol. So I bought like 5 things total, to try a variety, and nothing was great. There was a chocolate cookie thing with chocolate icing that was decent, and the donuts were fine. The danish was average, and the apricot cookie and chocolate chip cookie were both below average. And the lemon cupcake was especially disappointing--whipped frosting, and the cake itself was boring. I ordered a small cookie cake, half dozen of chocolate chip cookies, half dozen of half dipped in chocolate, chocolate chip cookies, and pepperoni and cheese rolls. I gave the small cookie cake as a gift and have not heard the review of it. I am not a fan of the chocolate chip cookies. They are a soft cookie. The chocolate was not what I expected. It was not a high quality chocolate, seemed like it had a bit of wax in it. The cookie dough was a bit bland. No hints of butter, salt, or cinnamon. The family did like them though. They had a various assortment of cookies that looked delicious though, and are eager to try something different. The Pepperoni and cheese rolls made up for the cookies. They were well balanced with bread, cheese and pepperoni. The Pepperoni quality was great. Not too much grease. The Italian seasonings complimented the roll. Came here because my sister told me their pastries were great. I am in town visiting from Los Angeles. A huge social media influencer, brand ambassador and a woman who owns several businesses. I like to support local vendors. However, I walk in and say hello with a smile. Not one person greets me at all. Not a hi, hello, excuse mam, can I help you. NOTHING! Unfortunately, I received quite the opposite! Mind you, I have my moms 4 pound puppy with me in my arms. All of a sudden, like storm troopers coming out of the back, three people make a scene and tell me I can't have the dog. Wow, really?! I don't care if someone wanted to discreetly say hey we do not allow dogs. But to make a scene and embarrass a brand new customer in front or other patrons in the store is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I had never been in there before and I was unaware of their no animal policy. I specifically told the three people that one person would have sufficed and they didn't need to come marching out from the back like that and treat me the way they did. I also told them I was a new customer and now I will not be a customer. I also plan to let my hundreds of thousands of followers across social media know of how I was treated here today. They not only lost a good customer but one who planned on ordering many items and spending a great deal of money. I spare no expense when I want something and if it is great quality. Money is not even an option. Albeit, I don't need to pay to get treated like crap and made to feel as such two days before Christmas! So I will happily go spend it elsewhere. There are WAY too many other wonderful bakeries, pastry places, cafe's and custom donut shops that I have tried locally over the past four days and NOT one person at any of these places treated me how I was today, quite the opposite! Very unpleasant experience today. Today is my son's birthday, so I took him after dinner to pick out a dessert from Bethel Bakery. I was masked, he was not because he is unable to wear a mask. We socially distanced from both other customers and staff. Once I made it to the register, a staff member told me he can't come in without a mask. I let her know he is unable to wear a mask (and he is a child), to which she rudely replied "It's policy, I don't make the rules, so then you should leave him outside." Leave my child outside?! Are you kidding me? I'm not going to harass a worker for enforcing their business's policies, but maybe they should be taught how to better handle something like this rather than telling a mother she should leave her child who has a health condition outside so she can patronize their store. read more
