We drive up to visit family doe our anniversary every year. Our sister-in-law gets us a cake from Beth's most every year. In the past we have been pleased. Not bowled over, but pleased. Not this year though. This year she asked for a white cake, similar to a wedding cake since that's what I really like. The cake was yellow and a bit moist. It had a coarse crumb and if it wasn't frozen prior to frosting, I will eat my flip flop. I also think it is smart to remind people if you out almond in your "wedding cake". This one teetered on too much almond in the frosting and I'm an almond girl. The frosting was like the whipped frosting from WalMart and Sam's. So disappointed this year. I think it's wise to let people know that a white frosting is not a true buttercream and will taste like grocery store whipped frosting. As for the cake, Wal mart has a better crumb and texture. We asked for Sam's or Costco next year to avoid disappointment. You know what you're getting from them. read more

Went to lunch with a friend and we got there pretty close to 11:00. By noon most tables were filled. My friend loves the chicken salad on a croissant. As her side dish she ordered the Watergate salad. I ordered the hot Tuscan chicken sandwich along with the Watergate salad. We both enjoyed the food a lot. It was well prepared and it tasted great. The tea room is very comfortable. One side you'll be in the dining area and the other side is filled with gifts. All in all it was a nice and friendly atmosphere. The service is the weak point of the experience. While our server was friendly and helpful it was slow. A couple of tables around us took forever to be greeted and their orders taken. Don't get me wrong the cookies are great. Anytime I've made a purchase there the people that are on the receiving end are very happy. However, that being said...they cater to a certain clientele. This may not be the case for everyone, but the times I've been there I have experienced attitude from the staff. I wasn't aware there was a dress code to purchase cookies, but my t-shirt and jeans may not be what they are going for. The product is great...the sour expressions I could do without. read more

This place is cute! A gift shop located inside as well with little trinkets and jewelry. Came here for lunch- got a chicken salad sandwich and it was delicious. BUT not worth almost 10$ for how small the sandwich is. However, I would recommend getting the pick two! Worth more for your buck in my opinion! Went on a different day and got their maple salad (sooo good!) with half of another sandwich. They also have samples laid out in the store for taste testing. read more

I haven't eaten in the Tea Room, but I stopped in to pick up goodies for a holiday party. Even though it was late in the afternoon, they had a wide range of cookies, bars, and other baked goods to choose from. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They packaged my items gently and nicely in attractive box. While I was waiting, I noticed that the tea room seems like a nice place for lunch. The setting is warm and cozy with plenty of wooden tables and chairs. I'll definitely be back with my mom, husband, or girl friend to give it a try. I ended up getting a mix of about four different kinds of treats, and because there were so many goodies at the party, I ended up coming home with one of each. We had salted caramel brownies, chocolate coconut macaroons, red velvet whoopie pies, and pecan bars. Each and every item was absolutely delicious. They also share their space with a gift shop that has a nice selection of home decor and gifts. I ate here today with a group of ladies. I ordered the daily special soup and quiche. Both were very yummy. The soup was meatball ravioli and the quiche was turkey cheese (cheddar, I believe). I had a piece of the daily dessert special, s'mores cake. The taste was ok but the toasted marshmallow had a stringy texture as if it had been microwaved. Cute bakery, kind of hard to find the entrance though..! I went here last minute because it was close to my home and I needed a cupcake for my roommate's birthday. The woman working saw me stumbling around in the parking lot and pointed me in the right direction. (Beth's Bake Shoppe and the gift shop next door, Gifts from the Heart, share one main entrance.) I did buy a cupcake, but found myself a little disappointed that there wasn't much of a selection. They only had chocolate. It was the middle of a day on Saturday so I suppose they could've had more earlier but overall I would've been better off driving a little farther on Republic road to Star Cupcakes for the same price & more selection. I've tried lots of things (all yummy) but my MOST favorite is their chicken salad sandwich-- it's SOO good on that toasted cinnamon bread. My daughter loves their nutty slaw. It's oil-based, with lots of crunch to it. ALL their desserts are just heavenly. They have regular choices behind the counter- & offer some desserts-of-the-day, featured on a silver platter your server will show you. (The iced sugar cookies are my favorite, too.) My daughter had requested an Oreo Cheesecake for her birthday. Beth's was close to our house, so I figured it would be a good place to try. I went in to order it, and from the moment I arrived at the counter, I felt like I was "in the way". There was no friendly greeting, and both ladies weren't willing to offer much help. I placed an order for an Oreo Cheesecake (to be picked up in about 5 days), and I made the HUGE mistake of paying for it in full. And while I was there, I figured I would try a few things (since it was my first visit). I ordered a Rice Krispie treat, an Oatmeal Raisin cookie, and a Brownie. I took it them home to feed to my sugar-craved kids, and we all shared a similar opinion...too expensive and not very good at all. The Oatmeal Raisin cookie was by-far the best of the bunch, but even that wasn't as good as I've had from grocery store bakeries. The Oreo Cheesecake I ordered? AWFUL! I sent my oldest daughter to pick it up, and I was shocked that they were "ok" to serve it. It was VERY overcooked! It had burned sides, and it was tasteless. I wish I had taken a picture. I had one small bite and that was it. The daughter that requested it? She was disappointed to say the least. I would have been embarrassed to serve that to customers, especially when I run a small business. I have never returned, and I have never recommended the place. When people ask me for a good bakery to try, I recommend a much better place (even if it is a little more expensive). read more

We went in today with a simple request: pink frosted cookies for a girl baby or blue frosted cookies for a boy for our family's gender reveal tonight. We were happy to get news of a boy or a girl, but confusion soon hit our house. At first, everything was fun and exciting as we opened a box of blue frosted cookies. Congratulations were said and everyone was having a good time taking photos with the blue cookies. I opened the doctor's office envelop to see the written word for the gender that we'd given to the bakery employee. I was shocked to see "female" clearly written on paper. Obviously, we will be having a baby girl, as we trust our doctor's word over a random bakery employee's, but our family moment was ruined. Is "female" really a higher level vocabulary word? With all the technology at our fingertips is it really that difficult to google a word? Or could the employee have just asked another employee there at the bake shop?
