This is an odd sort of review, because the only chocolates I've eaten from here were the ones she tutored us to create. And...well...they were magnificent. So rewinding a bit... I was looking for gift idea for SB. A friend at work pointed me to a link to a listicle or PG article about a chocolate making class. I'd never heard of it before. Completely in the weeds. When I went to A519's webpage, it was not intuitively obvious to me where I could go to sign up. BUT...it's listed under "products"...https://shop.a519chocolate.com/products/private-truffle-making-class There...I made a link for you. If you love chocolate, or you love someone who loves chocolate, this class was really fantastic. It broke down a bit like this...(2 hours) 1) Introductions/qualifications/backstory (5 minutes) 2) Presentation about cacao to chocolate...bean to bar. Terminology, taste, geography (10-15 minutes) 3) Tasting...taste various types of "raw materials" used to make chocolate truffles, white chocolate, dulce, milk chocolate, various percentages of dark chocolate up to 85% (20 - 30 minutes) 4) Making chocolates (the remainder) Informative, entertaining, delicious, and satisfying. It's a working kitchen, but doesn't take up a ton of space, so a six person class can be a bit cramped, but not uncomfortably so. There was plenty of space for each couple to follow instructions and hands-on. We first decorated molds using cocoa butter sprinkles (a la Jackson Pollock), then painted with an air brush, then made ganache and tempered chocolate and poured and scraped, cooled and broke molds, each couple taking home 24 BEAUTIFUL truffles. SB likes 'experience gifts', and this one was a great experience for us both. And the truffles WE made were amazing, so I can't imagine how good the ones Amanda (owner/chef) produces would be. Strongly encourage (think: valentine's day gift).

They recently opened a pop up shop in central Lawrenceville which will be open through Feb 2018. When I arrived I met Amanda Wright's husband who is in charge of the shop. Chocolate truffles come in different size boxes and are very expensive. You can still order from Amanda either on-line or call her shop where she produces them if you are unable to come out. Boxes range anywhere from two to a box for $4.00 to about fifteen in a box for $30.00. Although they are grouped by category such as caramels, you are permitted to mix and match to your liking. I decided to opt for a champagne filled truffle and a dark chocolate one. They were box very nicely and I ate them when I got home. Believe me as always they are to die for! These chocolates are to be savored. Wine pairing also helps you enjoy the flavors better. I don't mind have to shelve out a little extra cash when I know something is extra special and believe me I have never been disappointed in any or their high end chocolates. If you are able to get to central Lawrenceville during the holiday season this place is a must if you want to get some of the best candy in the city. Amanda can also custom design a box using sports teams or beautiful art. This makes a great gift for someone who is indeed a chocolate lover.

Not sure what I would expect them to do, but they weren't busy at the time. Store was clean but rather condensed as well with narrow walkways. The chocolate we did get was tasty. It's just not anything so unique that it can't be had elsewhere and for cheaper.

So off I went on Xmas Eve day, on a 40 minute trek from the city to find what she called "the best chocolate on earth". I arrived 10 minutes before close, and the owner was so bubbly and helpful. I have some dietary avoids, and this store carries a variety for every body. She convinced me to try their vegan raw non-dairy and gluten-free bar for myself, made from coconut palm sugar that has a low glycemic index (great for blood sugar!) - it was as tasty a bar of dark chocolate that I've ever had. I also purchased some cordial cherries, white chocolate mint meltaways, and truffles for the family. And, they were regarded as among the best chocolate everyone had ever had. I would prefer more chocolate and caramel and fewer pecans, but I thought that these turtles tasted good. Bourbon Cherry Chocolate fudge - 4.5 stars - This fudge cost $5 for 1/4 pound. I enjoyed the sweet flavors. I saw many other chocolates and other sweets that looked delicious, but I try to have a generally healthy diet, so I will wait to buy more sweets here until I am in the neighborhood again.

You also have the option to try out some samples before you buy. Although all the truffles and chocolates looked delicious, today, I decided to just try the penuche fudge, peanut butter chocolate fudge, and the chocolate covered popcorn. The penuche fudge was delicious, but also quite sweet (on the verge of being too sweet). When describing what the fudge tastes like, the shop owner said it is similar to a Werther's caramel. I agree; there is definitely a caramely taste. I tried a sample of the plain milk chocolate which was absolutely amazing. The triple chocolate fudge is also great and consists of white, dark, and milk chocolate. The next fudge I got was the peanut butter chocolate fudge. It is made with Belgian milk chocolate (all the chocolate they use is Belgian). The chocolate flavor is perfectly sweet. The peanut butter flavor is strong and creamy. The texture is on point in both of the fudges. And, the price is quite reasonable with a 1/4 pound costing $5. Finally, the chocolate covered popcorn was also great. A whole bag is just $3! The chocolate is by far the best part of this sweet treat. I believe it is the same high quality milk chocolate they use in their fudge. The popcorn itself was okay, but it was too buttery in my opinion. All in all, I will definitely return to the Boulevard Sweet Shoppe. The service is friendly, there is a great sweet selection, and the flavors are quite good. When it comes to Oakmont sweets: get your baked goods at the Oakmont Bakery, and stop by the Boulevard Sweet Shoppe for candies, fudge, bark, and other sweets.

Grandpa Joes Candy Shop is an oasis of nostalgia, abundance, and fun! From the immediate brightly colored storefront, to rubber chickens decorating the ceiling, to walls of soda and candy options, you feel like... a kid in a candy store... OHHHH THIS IS WHERE THEY GET THAT PHRASE!!! We loved perusing the wall of sodas.. and of course, we took a selection home with us! The candy is over and abundant with current, pop culture references, and the nostalgic varieties that you didn't know still existed.. I grabbed the Sixlets as soon as I saw them!!
