I recently signed up for Better Body Bootcamp through Groupon and I must say, it was one of the best decisions I've made for my fitness journey. I was initially unsure about the cancellation process, but Ashley, one of the coaches, made me feel at ease and assured me that I was going to get hooked. And boy, was she right! I trust her cuz she's also from my hometown-- Boston! I signed up for the year membership after 2 days! All the coaches at BBB are amazing and super down to earth. Chris, who I found intimidating at first, turned out to be a sweet guy. Annie has a keen eye and will catch you if you slack off. Rob and Julian are both super nice and Brian's catchphrases will get you through the class. Isabella is new, but I can already tell that her classes will be fire! These coaches will push you to your limits, but if you put in the work, you will see results. I lost 10 lbs with their 8-week challenge and came in 4th place. My fiancé lost 16 lbs and won first place. The results speak for themselves. I must say, I'm not leaving NYC and I'm definitely not leaving BBB until I get abs! The coaches are that good. The workouts at Better Body Bootcamp are INTENSE. I love the adrenaline high from spiking my heart rate and also the toning from bodyweight exercises. My favorite days are Fridays for full body and Saturday for cardio. It is always a great workout and the trainers are super high-energy and motivating. As others have mentioned it is also a great neighborhood feel and you can definitely feel part of a community after going just a couple times. Let me just say that Better Body Bootcamp is changing my life for the better, not just my body, but my mind and attitude as well. Before Better Body, I absolutely hated exercise, of ever kind. It always made me feel incapable. And I hated my body. I had resolved myself to the idea that exercise was always going to suck and that I was always going to be out of shape. I believed that I was not and could never be an athletic person. I mean, I've never been able to do a real pushup even once in my life. But, I started Better Body in September for their trial, and... all of that changed. Is it the hardest workout I've ever done in my life? Yes! Do I feel like I'm dying sometimes? Yes! Do the Astoria trainers help you succeed no mater what? Absolutely! ​All of the trainers at this location are absolutely amazing! Annie, Chris, Julian, Rob, and Brian have each said something to me personally to motivate me through a tough class, to improve my form, to encourage me, and to celebrate with me. I have a lot of injuries and weakness, and they have always been available for questions or modifications, before, during, and after class. Chris and Ashley are so helpful with meal plan and macro suggestions (yes, i know what macros are now!) And they never make you feel bad for coming back on the wagon after you've fallen off. They stay positive and keep you positive too. And the results? Well, last month I burned 10,000 calories in class alone. And, I was able to do the first full real pushup I've ever done in my life. YOOOO ATOWNNNN!! During pandemic and after quarantining at home and cooking so much delicious food cause yall know I'm a foodie lollll, I gained so much weight and was really struggling with my self image. All my clothes felt tight and I was just desperate for a change but the motivation was extremely hard to find especially in a pandemic!!! I was honestly feeling so down and at some point depressed because I just felt so bad about myself. It wasn't until a good friend of mine told me about BBB! She had joined a month prior and it was honestly the push I needed! Working out is always so much fun and better with a friend because of accountability! Soooooo I decided to join and here we are 6 months later into my fitness journey! The really great thing about joining a new gym is that there is always some kind of promotion at a discounted rate or even a cheaper trial to give it a chance! HIIT workouts are not for everyone so it's nice to try it out! If you're like me and need someone to yell at you to tell you what to do, THIS IS IT!! Okay maybe not yell but HIGHLY motivate you to get your knees higher or speeding up your pace and letting it BURNNNN, then THIS is the place for you!!! It's definitely a little pricier for a gym membership (also my motivation to get my ass to the gym lol) but what's really nice about it is, you can take multiple classes a day (if you're hardcore like my friend lolol) AND you can even travel to other locations too! But the Astoria location fits about 20-25 people per class and they have a changing room, two bathrooms, a couple ACs and fans all around. Ventilation might not be great but I mean, hey you're there to sweat right? Haha. Also, the music be poppin'!!! You'll def start moving to the beat!! I loooove that they also have music themes on certain days so it isn't the same repetitive songs or playlist. When they bring back the 90s, I'm like yoooooo, this be my JAM! Their app is super user friendly so it's easy to book and cancel classes. They always email the schedule weekly and are pretty active on IG so you can always see any updates right away. They also offer lots of class times early morning or latest PM class is at 8pm which I'm super grateful for since sometimes ya girl gotta work overtime na mean? Each class starts on the dot and is a straight 45mins workout with a 5mins cooldown and then everything is wiped down afterwards. All the trainers I've taken are always READY to whip you into shape! They are super fun and have great personalities!! You gotta give them props cause they be coaching a few classes in a row sometimes! So I always appreciate the energy they bring cause it's always 100!! I was lucky enough to have done CrossFit in the past so picking up all the moves were familiar to me. Although sometimes things are moving fast, you can always count on a member in the front row to watch what they're doing so you're back on track (take a spot in the back row like me XD) and definitely let your trainer know that you're new to this!! Once they know your name, they'll call you out but I think that makes the experience more intimate and I always feel seen. I've also had trainers come up to me to fix my form if I was doing something incorrectly. That's super important to me because form is EVERYTHINGGGG! Always remember to bend with your knees, keep your heels on the ground and keep your chest up and back straight! You'll see what I mean when you join haha. But most of all, listen to your body and don't overexert yourself or feel pressured to do more. It takes time to build endurance but you'll get there! I always feel welcomed here and you'll see more familiar faces the more you attend classes. And even if you disappear for a little while, they'll even notice when you come back and ask where you've been T_____T So if you're looking to get some gainz and posting some thirst traps (cause they got big mirrors lolol), commit and remember that consistency is key! The owners Chris and Steve are super nice and chill! They always take the time to say hi and ask whatcha been up to. If you have the opportunity to meet them or Ashley (the manager), it's always good vibes! I'm super thankful to have this community!! Conveniently located, clean, trainers are enthusiastic but what I love the most is that you can't wait to go to workout!!! BBB has the best ambience to workout. Great spot to get your workout in, without having to travel very far. I signed up for a promo they had, $49 unlimited for one month. I was there pretty much every day. At first I was concerned about safety and others not wearing a mask. Chris explained to me the cleaning process they follow daily, and all the trainers stress wiping down everything at the end of class. Everyone is respectful of each other and has a mask on the entire time. The workouts are great for beginners/ intermediate peeps and as always, you get what you put into it. Don't expect miracles unless you follow a disciplined lifestyle. I highly recommend BBAstoria for a good workout without having to go far. read more

This place has become so much more than a gym to me the past year, but a place that has been able to push me into the next phase of my life and career while the trainers and community have been a soft landing and a welcome start/ end to my long days. You learn so many workouts in a short period of time which is amazing, but it's even better because you can dictate how hard you want to go. I Love BBB because it's a complete workout. They alternate the days of the week via upper body, lower body, full body, and cardio. I love that I don't have to think when I am at this gym. I get in, get it done and get out; while also meeting some really nice people (employees and clients). I Love Nina. I told her once I had a goal that I wanted to stick to and since then she was always checking in making sure I was staying on track, until working out became my routine again. I Love Chris Victora. He walks around making sure your form is perfect and then he burns your muscles out and because of his classes I feel stronger. I Love Julian Serrano. He makes you move quickly with weights to pump the muscles and because of his class I feel tighter. I Love Brian Linker. His classes are high energy and it's like he always says, "Its' Different!" and because of his classes I feel so much leaner, nimbler, with increased stamina. I Love Rob Mendez. His transitions between workouts are fast and because of his classes I move so much quicker. I Love James Delpeche, even though I only see him when he is filling in for someone (due to my schedule) his classes have all been great. Each one brings something different to the table so I feel it's best to mix up classes with different trainers. I take everything I have learned from each of them to every workout. In the end they are all great trainers but they are not magicians. Post covid I felt stuck, unmotivated, tired of working out in my apartment and even less motivated to go to one of the local gyms in the area. I passed by BBB for about 3 months before I finally stepped inside and signed up for their trial classes. That was one of the best decisions I've made in a long time! Every trainer is here to kick your ass, every member is here to motivate you. The general manager, Ashley, has such an amazing energy. I have been going to Better Body Bootcamp on Steinway Street in Astoria for almost two years. It is a great workout every time. I love the fact that I do not have to think about what to do at the gym after work. Every day is different so by the end of the week you have worked out every muscle group. The trainers keep class fun and keep you motivated even when you are exhausted. It is a wonderful way to decompress after a hard day of work. The vibes are amazing and the music keeps you moving to the beat. As a size 16 woman who has been athletic for years and tried every fitness class to make myself smaller, I have genuinely never felt more confident and supported than I have these past two months in Better Body Bootcamp. I stopped weighing myself because working out at BBB isn't about being smaller; it's about my mental head space and feeling good in my skin. It's rewarding to prove to yourself that you can do hard things. That being said, my ass looks pretty great hahahah. The morning classes jumpstart my day and have helped me to navigate a transitionary and difficult time in my life by providing a constant. Almost every instructor knows my name and encourages me when I lift heavy or really go innnnn for a movement. No instructor has ever given a second glance when I go for heavier dumbbells or more challenging variation (something that as a plus size woman always happens in a new exercise environment). In the same breath, I also feel no shame in modifying a movement that may be more difficult for me in a larger body. There are people of all skill levels, ages, and sizes around me which is a comfort and further emphasizes this workouts are for everyone. I've been exercising for years but after 2 months of BBB getting out of bed and bending is easier. No instructor has praised me for burning calories, or working off my meals, or making up for something that I ate that weekend, or preparing for my summer body, or the holiday season. It is so beyond refreshing. I am so grateful to have found a fitness space that exalts overall wellness and balance rather than shrinking or guilt. The seasoned boot campers who can burpee circles around me are encouraging and warm to newcomers. Seriously, signing up for BBB has been a turning point in my fitness journey . I was really excited to try my free trial at BBB but did not get to take the class. I'm a teacher who gets off at 4pm and rushed to be there by 4:10.when I Went to check in the manager stated they have a 5-10 min courtesy wait which I obliged too. She turned me away. I'm disappointed because I could have been a potential customer. She did ask if I had any other available times so I wouldn't have to rush , but seeing that this was my first visit she could have made an accommodation. This was a lesson to me to always check out the place in person before signing up. I signed up, sight unseen, because on Yelp and Google reviews, people said this place was good and following Covid protocols. I signed up online summer of 2021, after the city relaxed Covid measures, and it was almost like there had never been a pandemic. There were one or two signs saying "masks required," inside, but almost no one, including staff, was wearing them. No temperature checks, no asking if you were vaccinated or proof of negative test. The only concessions were hand sanitizer, telling people to wipe down their equipment (which you hope happened pre-pandemic as well) and allowing people to cancel closer to the time of the class. It's a pretty small space with sometimes up to 22 or 23 people exerting themselves. There are no windows or open doors letting in fresh air that I could see. There was some cleaning protocol, but the lack of ventilation and air circulation was concerning. I went pretty regularly at first, but once I learned how contagious the Delta variant was even among vaccinated people, I stopped, because it just wasn't worth getting sick or infecting someone else. Just saw today that NYC is going to mandate vaccination for folks at gyms and fitness studios, so hopefully, that will make things better. In terms of exercise, it's pretty good and conveniently located, though be sure to do things at your own pace, especially if you're new to high intensity workouts - there's not much coaching beyond quick demonstrations, so if you're starting new, be careful to not push yourself too hard and get hurt. read more
