I booked 10 classes for $1,400. On my 3rd class Ahmed had me stand on a platform with no balance aids while doing vigorous leg work. I fell off the pedestal, crashed my head on the wall and ended up in Lenox Hill hospital getting a CAT scan of my head and jaw. Turns out my jaw was dislocated and now needs PT to get it straight. I cancelled the rest of my sessions and asked for a refund. Ahmed gave me a refund BUT he insisted on charging me for the session that put me in Lenox Hill Hospital! I've lived on the upper east side all my life, in my early 20's there was the usual big name NYSC, Equinox etc. I couldn't warm up to either after giving them both a try. The class is motivating and semi personalized, it's a small room so each class has about 5 other people, this is great because the trainers check on you the entire class and correct you if you're doing anything wrong. Found out about push labs via ClassPass. First time I went right after Christmas break, my instructor was Rick Lau for Lower Body Core. This class was intense(in a good way) and really pushed me both mentally and physically. I was very sore after this class due to all the new exercises Push Labs had me doing, especially my core. Second and Third times I went for Total Body with Ahmed Mohamed. These classes were equally as intense and push your body to the limit. They remind me of the workouts I used to do for Ice Hockey and use everything from ladder drills to TRX, to weighted training. Ahmed and Rick are both very nice and motivating at the same time. Their classes are small in size and give you personal attention to correct form/ motivate you to keep going. They are very technical and really demonstrate their knowledge of fitness and training. I'm very sore today...which tells me yesterday, PushLab kicked my butt. Some background: I'm a member at Equinox and I've done Barry's a few times, but my workouts generally consist of the stairmaster for a good warmup, and then some rando weight workouts. Or I'll hit up Title Boxing when I want to switch it up. I've been wanting to try PushLab because the reviews seems to back it up solidly, but doing a strength training class like this - which seems a little intense - always seemed a little too 'tough' and extreme for me. I signed up anyway thanks to ClassPass. Janna led the class (which btw only had two people in it!) and it was a solid 45 minute workout. Very efficient use of time. Not much break time. But by the time you're ready to hear the next workout, you'll be surprised that the class is over! We warmed up with some cardio workouts, bear crawls (my first time doing this and WOW that was hard), then went into leg workouts like lunges, glute work, then abs, then arms. Admittedly I needed to take breaks -- water breaks, breathing breaks, all kinds of breaks -- but I never felt judged or ridiculed for it. That said, because the class is very small, the instructors probably need everyone to be on the same workout at the same time. So if you're taking a break, I think it does pause the class for a bit. That isn't horrible; if anything, I think it motivated me to hurry up and get back in the game. Happy to recommend this spot to anybody who wants to sweat and feel the burn. read more

PushLab Fitness is awesome for those who want small classes and great trainers. I've been coming here for the past month and I have to say, I am hooked. I first started with ClassPass, after the limit of three workouts at this one location, I caved in and bought the sessions. True Story, I had so much back pain prior to joining, after a few weeks, I can finally hold a plank for more than a minute with no problems, plus my back pain is minimal to almost none. The trainers are patient and are focused in making you feel your best. They are great at correcting form, so you know, you are working those muscles the way you are supposed to. The classes are intense and worth the sweat. Everytime I leave the studio, I feel great. I've been working out with Ricky for the past few workouts and this morning I worked with Ahmed for the first time. Both trainers have high energy and are tough. Don't be intimidated by Ahmed's muscles!!! And if you ever think of sitting on the couch and eating a bag of chips, stop right there...As Ricky would say, "Summer is here." One more thing to add, the classes are small, so if you're late, it could really disrupt the rhythm and energy for everyone focusing on being their best. Get motivated and feel great. read more

I have to say for me fitness can't get any better than this. its like a semi private gym, super clean, and always enjoy joking with the staffs! so far all the classes I've been to I was given enough attention about my form and always got my ass kicked from the workout, I recently took a total body class and informed the trainer before hand that I currently have shin splints and he was so thoughtful and quick to improvising! I wasn't able to do most of the jumping during the session, but what the trainer did was teach a different workout that would still target the places we were all working out for. This place always gives me a tough, challenging workout. It's a small location so class size is typically limited to 6 or so people. Usually it starts with a pretty tough warmup to get the heart pumping and then evolves into different workouts using kettlebells and TRX bands. I've been to a lot of circuit cardio/strength training classes, but so far this place is the best! The studio is quaint, but BRAND new. I think the fact that the studio is on the smaller side is a plus! You won't have more than five people in your class and you get individual help from fantastic instructors like Ricky. Ricky teaches the 8:30 Upper Body/Core class on Wednesday's, which has become a staple of my weekly workout. The class is fun and extremely challenging! Week to week it changes, it's not the same exercise causing you to get bored. I highly recommend you try out this studio! It's also on class pass, so you having nothing to lose! Intense. I took the upper body class with Ricky a few months ago and he was an extremely energetic and helpful instructor. Cardio warmup (I despise cardio- this was hard for me), and blocks of exercises like resistance bands, push-ups, burpees, pull-ups, planks, etc. 45 minutes means pretty much zero breaks! The space is teeny and narrow, but it's clean and has everything to make you question why you subject yourself to this type of hardcore exercise. I love this place. It's my favorite specialty gym in the UES. I was a member of Equinox for years but I haven't been going as much so I started doing ClassPass to try some smaller gyms. At PushLab I've gone to classes with Ahmed and Ashley. The gym is small but don't let that deceive you. This place kicks your butt, but not to the point of injury (not fun and it's happened at other places-ugh!). The classes are small enough that the instructors can help you with technique so you're doing the exercise correctly and the classes are super motivational. Highs and lows. My instructor showed up two mins after the class start time. As an instructor myself, this is just unacceptable. Starting on time is essential to having people feel confident that you will also end on time and honor people's personal time. Particularly when a class is at 7am and you get up early as it is to arrive you also want the instructor to have courtesy to do the same. ESP when it's chilly out and you have to wait outside since you can't even get into the facility without them. The actual workout was good. There were only two of us in class. And when classes are small, please give more personal attention, options and ways to work harder if you know people can handle it. I found that the teacher taught as if there was a huge class and you couldn't personally motivate us. With two people, you can actually remember our names and give real-time feedback. I left feeling good and that I worked out. Though, like I said, I teach myself so I know what I need to do to workout my body, but I wonder what someone more novice or new to fitness would have thought. PushLab is where you go if you want more individualized attention from trainers, as if they were your team coach. They get you motivated!!! And you definitely can't slack unnoticed! I have done Varsity conditioning, weight training, and group fitness classes from everywhere. This place is awesome if you want a group class, but felt some were too big for you to feel noticed. It's perfect if you want to strength train; we have used dumbbells and kettlebells and medicine balls and row machines and of course body weight... it all varies class to class to make it interesting. It's great if you want to do more cardio; the entire class has your heart rate UP. Personally, I used to go to the gym for over an hour, and did the same amount of work within the 45 min. of one of these classes. High intensity means time efficient! I know what it feels like to have your butt kicked by a workout. They always kick my butt! All the trainers have great personalities and tons of energy. Been going to this place for a while because the workout is pretty good and it's a local business which I like to support. Only ever had ricky as an instructor and he is very supportive and friendly. However, today I was late by one minute because of my train and the owner YELLED at me and was extremely condescending. I have never been late before and tried to explain this was an extenuating circumstance and he kept giving me attitude, while ricky tried to defend me. I'm sorry this happened and this has left a terrible taste in my mouth about this place. So BEWARE if life happens and you are one minute late to this place. read more

This is a great work out experience - I have been working out there twice weekly since it opened. As a mother of two children under 5 years old and working full time - my time is precious....and the instructors at PushLab make it 110% worthwhile.
