Just bought a record player after thirty years without one. Needed records so stop by this place since I pass by it when traveling downtown. Impressed with the vast amount of records accross all music genres. I love the most of them especially from the sixities to the ninety's. Got a jazz album, a lot of soul music, some pop. I sold off my large music collection in 1991 to move from Atlanta to Louisville. The owner said he has been open since 1978. I will definitely be back to get more music. In the mean time I need to figure out how to change the needle to get better sound. Great records, vast selection, great prices, is music to my ears! read more

A great selection in a fun and hip spot. The music was bumping the staff was laid back yet helpful. They had a huge selection of Jazz and I picked up several on my want list, including a Sinatra and Peggy Lee I did not have for great prices. I wish I could have stayed longer and luxuriate but I will be back. read more

Came on a Sunday, they have a variety of different things besides vinyls. There are some shirts, audio equipment, cds & more. We came for the vinyl. Somewhat organized alphabetical but you might find one in a different section due to they went with the last or first name. We found some gems & most of the them were in great condition. If you don't mind digging around for a awhile, definitely a spot to hit up. read more

I could see how Better Days could easily be a collector's heaven. They have such a huge selection! Everything seems to be organized nicely, too. I was surprised to see some newer albums on vinyl, which adds even more to what you may find. Aside from vinyls you can also find TONS of CDs, some dvds and a small selection of old action figures. Well, not having been to Louisville in nearly four years, I couldn't remember the name of the vinyl shop that I visited and liked so much previously. It wasn't until I found my 2019 review - after I had stopped by during my most-recent trip - that I realized that this was the same shop that I reviewed in 2019. This time around, I didn't find anything that excited me at all. I do don't mind paying good money for excellent quality. But I just didnt see it here. They have quite a selection. However, big doesn't equal great. I did notice that they have a significant percentage of duplicates. Quite frankly, I am beginning to question my sanity. To such an extent that I'm wondering if I didn't leave a review for the wrong establishment 3-1/2 years ago. Let's just say that I will probably not be back. read more

After trying just about every record store in town I think I've settle into Better Days being the one I'll frequent. For Christmas my wife got me a $50 gift certificate for Better Days (I'm a DJ and routinely use vinyl for my live shows), so I was anxious to see what I could get for the $50. On this particular trip I was only interested in 12" Singles and I was delighted to see such a huge collection of them. The 12" singles are in crates on the floor, maybe about a dozen of them, lining the floor along two walls. If I was to voice one complaint about this store, it's that it's pretty uncomfortable sitting on the floor going through them, but that's not going to stop me from my vinyl perusal. The gentleman working that day offered a stool to make it more comfortable, but the area isn't large enough to where that would have helped, but at least he offered. The store has an amazing stock. Records and CDs line the walls and are pretty logically arranged. The wall behind the counter displays some of the higher ticket and more unique items. Music is constantly being played overhead while you shop. The store on this Saturday evening was steadily busy, with at last a dozen other people coming in going during the time we were shopping. The music is broken down by media type first (CD, vinyl), and then into categories. From the couple visits I've made, they tend to be pretty organized and, if not in absolute alphabetical order, are at least found in the correct letter section for that category. The pricing was very reasonable on everything I looked at and nothing was ridiculous. Even brand new vinyl was less than you'd see at, say, Barnes & Nobles. After spending about two hours going through the 12" singles, I ended up paring it from 32 down to 23. When I got home and auditioned them, they were all remarkably clean with only a couple showing any signs of previous play. I was very happy with the shopping experience and with the merchandise, and I got out of there spending nearly $90 of that $50 gift certificate. :) read more

Stepping into Better Days Records is like stepping back in time. I miss those days. Going into a record store or video store and browsing. Yes, they have tons of videos too. Better Days also seems to have figurines/models for sale. They just have everything from back in the day. We looked through the rows and rows of vinyl and I was impressed with their selection. I did not find what I was looking for but their selection was extensive. I would suggest Better Days Records to anyone in the Louisville area. Wow, I was thoroughly impressed with my visit to Better Days Records. I visit a lot of record shops (or at least did pre-COVID, and now once more) and these days I'm often disappointed by either lack of selection or inflated prices. Better Days has a HUGE selection--their Jazz, Country, and Rock sections are each larger than most stores have in total. Their prices are also incredibly fair and more in line with the actual value of said record than cash and grab inflated prices. I often enter a record store with a shopping list only to leave with completely different items. Every record I purchased this visit was on a list of records I was seeking and each was fairly priced. Will definitely be back the next time I'm in Louisville! read more

This place is legit, man. I have to admit my concern - Every time I go in this place, the same guy is working. Last time I was there, I asked him if he was the owner. He said no. He must live there, then. Nicest guy ever, though. And knows his stuff. My wife got a turntable for Christmas. She has been looking for record stores ever since. We've been a few places around the city, but this one is probably our favorite. They have a really extensive collection of vinyl. Bigger than most other places that I've been. As well, they have $1 bins that sit underneath the displays that you can root through if you desire. This is my wife's go-to. She is a frugal person and wants cheap records. Typically, the $1 bin is for the records they have just received from people that have donated, or they are just trashy, terrible albums. But you'll find some good stuff if you have the patience. My wife found an ABBA album that made her pretty happy. The same album was in the catalog for like $5. She got it $4 cheaper, because she rooted through the $1 bins. If vinyl isn't your thing, they have CDs (new and used). I picked up Pearl Jam's Vs. the other day for $5. Just so I could have it in my truck. Good CD to just have in your CD player at all times, and for $5. All of their used CDs are guaranteed. They guarantee it if it skips or if it has scratches or whatever. So go with used. Need records? Out of all the record stores in louisville I've been to this place I would say has the best selection versus price. I have found many artists I enjoy there and have been pleasantly surprised with how much the records are. They also have a great reduced section with older finds that don't break the bank at all. I also love their system as well, everything is clearly marked and alphabetical, super easy to find what you are looking for. There is a ton of stock too, and it changes when they receive shipments so you're always bound to come across something new. The atmosphere is nothing fancy but hey when you want vinyl I think it's the quality of the stock that matters. read more

I simply asked about an analog R2R he had behind the counter and he was like "uhh duh" that's what that is. Shrugged off his snide remark, and asked if it was for sale (while I was checking out buying some cds and a few records) and he just said....uh yeah. We stumbled upon this record store while looking for a store that primarily focuses on music, not comics or books. Let me tell you that the store does more than focus on the music-- it is all about the music here!Upon first entering, we noticed that the store is clean and well organized. The music in the store is playing over an amazing sound system. They have a huge selection of all different types of music!! I am a sucker for excellent customer service and it was here that I have received the best customer service --in fact shopping here was a music lovers dream. Ben saw the music my son was choosing and played some of the records he thought he'd be interested in I've the sound system while we were shopping. He introduced himself and talked shop with my son, even opened and played something from the floor! What an excellent experience--we will be back! read more

OK collection though much overpriced especially for the quality of the used LPs if you are also an online shopper. I find it disconcerting when I can get a desired LP of higher quality for less even when accounting for a $5 postage fee! In these days of readily available pricing on Amazon and Discogs, there really is no reason why prices should not be at least comparable. I came away with one gem, another common used LP, and a couple new releases that were in line with mail-order pricing and delivery cost. This is why I deducted two stars. The collection is very well organized and reasonably complete, making it easy to scan for wish-list items. More category cards were used than I've seen in many stores, with the typical catch-all alphabetic category. The collection is reasonably large and the space small -- as much floor space is given to CDs -- so one must literally "dive" into stacks near the floor. Good exercise for a boomer I suppose, but does make for a lot of interruptions as you need to get out of the way of other customers. Overall, a worthwhile experience, but I've seen better. Given the excellent prior reviews, I was more than a bit disappointed by what I found. read more

The emphasis here seems to be CDs. They do carry some vinyl, mostly used, although I think it seems to be the sort of place that gets in used records and then after awhile it's pretty much the crappy records that remain on the shelves. One thing that sets them apart from a lot of other little places is that they do seem to carry new stuff too, although I can't say that I've tried to order anything here. read more

The thing I love about Better Days is simple: if you can't find it on the shelf, they will help you look. If THEY can't find it on the shelf, they will help you order it. Decent store, all rock genres are mixed together (pop, metal, punk, alternative). Saw a lot of new vinyl not much used. Metal was mostly popular stuff, didn't see any Red Fang, Kylesa, Torche etc. Staff was friendly. read more

Better Days has continued to evolve in its re-incarnation and as the economy has improved, so has this record store. So, I'm adding a 5th star, and primarily because of the recent uptake in used vinyl that they've been adding over time. Be sure to check the boxes on the leftmost and center portion of the main counter, which is where the new premium vinyl adds go. Follow the store on Facebook and look for 1x-2x weekly posts that specify what's been added...very useful. If you're in a very patient mood there are also numerous boxes planted around the store that include everything from $1 record bins under the main bins as well as slightly more pricey stuff that is (at the time of this review) placed on a large table between the front and back areas. read more

Texted them, wanting a specific album. Said they had it and it would be set aside behind the counter. Drove in from Texas to visit family and we went to pick it up. The guy behind the counter looked for it for about 5 seconds and said "It's not here." I said "Could you call someone who might know where it's at?" The guy was all put out saying, very snidely, "They're here from Texas!" I was so put off by his demeanor that we left the store vowing never to go back there...went to Guestroom Records and had a very satisfying shopping experience. read more

After going to a couple of the record stores on bardstown road in this area, I found myself at Better Days. What I really liked about this place was, the extensive vinyl selection. There was also a mix of used and new vinyl, and even still stuff from record store day. The staff were also nice too, score! read more

Dwight is a champ and this place has a great, great selection of new and used LPs and 45s. Give yourself some time here. My only issue would be the lack of a listening station...a must to me if a shop carries used inventory. Support good, friendly, independent music shops like this one. read more

It was quite a pleasant surprise as was the friendliness of the staff[refreshing and no pretention].
