My friend and I visited a few record shops while we were in Louisville and this was one of them. It's organized very well and I tend to gravitate toward the 'Rarity Walls' in record shops, which this one had. LOVED this dude's shop. Very well laid out, huge/great selection of items. Found stuff I wasn't even looking for when I went in to browse. He was playing some jazz that made shopping super chill- never felt pressured or rushed. Literally just found this down the road from our AirBnb and was happy I stopped in. I hate to say this, but his pricing was super low on some of the stuff I grabbed- was really surprised he wasn't charging more but I appreciate what he is doing there. I'll be honest, this place definitely surprised me!! Me and the boyfriend were out today record shopping and were at a standstill.. we wanted to continue our venture, but I didn't necessarily wanna drive down to the Highlands to Book & Music Exchange or drive 30 minutes to Half Priced Books... Lo and behold, this shop came up in my search for record stores!! I was a little skeptical just because I'd never heard of this store before, but they didn't disappoint !! We were greeted immediately by a really nice man... I didn't get his name, but he was incredibly personable and friendly!! When I first looked around I was scared they were just a vinyl store (i'm more of a CD collector because they're more compact + cheaper) until I noticed their cd wall which had an array of things!! From well known artists like Ozzy, Beatles, Alice In Chains, to more local artists like My Morning Jacket, they had it all!! They even had a cassette section which was my holy grail because I'm also a BIG cassette person too!! They had both a mix of old and new ones... even snatched up the Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan on cassette (which they also had on 7" vinyls and regular sized). Aside from records and CDs, they also had a nice selection of comic books in the back, as well as stickers, t-shirts, buttons, and show posters from concerts/events that had happened in Louisville!! This is definitely coming one of our main record shops to visit when we need our cd kick!! Absolutely love the vibes and selection!! read more

The Hits & More.. that is what Matt Anthony's record shop had to offer. They got vinyls, cassettes, posters, pins, healing stones and other items. My beau came here on a mission to get a vinyl but we ended up browsing around and found a couple of gems. The staff member was amazing, not only was he knowledgeable, he was just friendly and made our time there entertaining and pleasant. I love that they have a record player there so if you have an inquiries about a vinyl they will play it for you if you ask. I found a healing stone and a pin of course we got some vinyls. Our friend got a shirt and some vinyls. We will be back and can't wait to see what gems they will have next time. read more

I've visited dozens of vinyl shops in many different cities over the past 4 or 4-1/2 years. I've been to quite a few excellent shops, a very large number of decent ones, along with a small number (thankfully) of lousy ones. I found a lot to like about this one - mainly, quite a few really good items. The thing that I liked least was the lack of organization. Another reviewer mentioned that shopping here is a bit of a treasure hunt. I'm fine with that. However, this place takes unorganized to a new level. I found one LP that caught my eye. I put it back into the bin exactly where I initially found it. When I was ready to leave, I thought that I'd go ahead and buy the one that I had looked at. But I was unable to locate it. So what may seem like a cool idea (not knowing what you'll uncover) ended up, for me, to be frustrating. All-in-all, I'd definitely go back. I saw a number of LP's that appeared to be very nice. And prices are reasonable. But you really need to look through everything. So be sure to spend sufficient time here. As a bonus, the proprietor is a very nice gentleman. read more

The loveliest woman worked here. I wish I got her name. An older woman with short blonde hair. The place closed 30 min ago but she saw us peering in through the windows and she let us come in! She was also mopping the floor but told us we can look anywhere we wanted and she would just mop again. So sweet. A very cool little record shop. I stopped in at few of the competitors in the neighborhood and left without making a purchase b/c they seemed to really love their vinyl (so much so that I don't think they wanted to part with it based on their prices). When I go to a record shop I don't just want bins full of brand new shrink wrapped vinyl for $40 a pop that is crammed in to bins so tight I can't look through it which I could get online shipped to my house in better condition for much cheaper. I want used, new, oddities, vinyl paraphernalia. I dropped about $50 in Matt's shop and walked out with 2-3 classic vinyl records and 2 new ones, some from my wish list and some I'd never seen or thought to pick up in the past (which is what I want from a record shop). They also have comics, vintage rock shirts, CDs, and novelties. Good music playing, good location, friendly service. Check 'em out. read more

I really enjoy the selection here, and the set up is very easy to look through also. Location is great because if you are anywhere in st Matthews, the highlands, or crescent hill you can easily get here and take a stroll down Frankfort ave after, weather permitting of course. Pricing is okay, a bit on the upper side but nothing too shocking. The reason for the 3 stars is because if you are sensitive to scents at all you won't last 5 minutes in this place, the smell of incense is beyond overpowering from the minute you walk in. I don't understand why so many stores do this but it's prevalent in louisville and unfortunately I cannot shop in this particular venue too long before getting a sinus headache. It's so so strong. Along with a good selection of records from all decades and multiple genres (prominently rock, jazz, country, indie rock and hip hop), the store offered band tees and comic books, posters and stickers, mugs and even t-shirts with Andy Beshear on them, all for such great prices! Despite the shop's curious name, this spot is owned/run by a guy named Chip Chandler...ahem...just kidding. Matt is all things you could ask for in a record store owner: personable, knowledgable, helpful, sincere and passionate about good music. Nicely curated selection. He stocks new and used LPs, 12"s and 45s. I spent a couple hours digging and pulled out some great funk/soul 45s, a couple soul jazz LPs etc. Store has a listening station (essential in my mind for a place that sells used inventory). Came to Louisville for a conference with a weekend available for vinyl shopping. So glad I did! This store ranks among the best I've visited all over the country, let alone in the city. What the collection lacked In size it by far made up with quality. Arrived a little before an hour before closing and even then I only made it through the jazz, blues and partway through the R&B section due to the outstanding selection! I found the prices to be very reasonable. This is definitely not the typical vinyl-hype store that prices new releases at a 20-30% premium above Amazon -- really, not all audiophiles care less about their wallet than their music! Every used LP I picked was VG+ or better and priced to sell. My only complaint is the collection is not well-organized beyond genre which slows scanning for targets -- something I hadn't planned on in my first visit. However, for those who prefer "the dive" you will be well rewarded for your effort. I usually shy away from shops that make the experience a treasure hunt, but this one paid off -- of course, literally for Matt Anthony at my expense :-). I can't wait to get back to finish my browsing! My wallet will likely feel even lighter on my next visit. read more

Yet another of Louisville's small, hi-qual record shops with a well-tended combination of new records from eclectic reissue labels such as Numero (e.g. Purple Snow compilation and many others). Bins are well organized by era and genre, with a fair amount of local records in the mix. The used records here are well-curated and usually about as clean as you're going to find where 20-50 yo records are concerned. New records are mixed in if not on the small "new" display area as you walk in. On 7/15/14, I acquired around $100 worth of records including some older jazz compilations (Bethlehem Records) that are not rare per se, but nice to find in your local record bin. Highly recommend this and the other Frankfort Ave record shops as well. We've got a real record "row" going in this part of town. I usually organize an outing with this shop the first stop (closes at 7PM), then Modern Cult (closes at 8PM on weeknights), and Guestroom Records (closes at 9PM). read more

This record store is good. It's quaint and cute and family run (Matt's mother was attending the counter the day I went in, and she was probably the sweetest person I have ever met). The only thing keeping it from another star is that I haven't found any of the records on my list. I have fairly obscure music tastes, but I would hope to be able to at least find one or two that I'm looking for. I stopped into Guestroom and found two from my list right away. I'd love to see a few more records available from contemporary artists (across multiple genres). read more
